BELFAST (Août 18, 2018) – Former two-division world champion Carl Frampton knocked out Luke Jackson to retain his interim featherweight title Saturday at Windsor Park in Belfast in a doubleheader that streamed live on SHOWTIME Sports social platforms.

 

 

 

In the opening bout of SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL, lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury shut out Francesco Pianeta to line up a 2018 showdown with WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder.

 

 

 

An encore presentation will air in primetime tonight at 10 p.m. ET / PT sur Showtime EXTREME®.

 

 

 

Frampton (26-1, 15 KOs) turned in an impressive performance and scored his first knockout as a featherweight in what was a “dream” homecoming fight at the home of Northern Irish football. The former 126 and 122-pound champion now has his sights set at becoming a champion yet again in one of boxing’s deepest divisions.

 

 

 

After a dominant seven rounds, Frampton scored a knockdown via a body shot with 30 secondes à jouer dans la huitième. Jackson (16-1, 7 KOs) survived the eighth but was clearly hurt. “I think it was a calculated boxing performance, comme promis,” said Fury, who was fighting for just the second time in nearly three years. “We were able to get 10 good rounds in with a tough man. I was working on my boxing, trying to slip and slide, use the jab and get the rounds in. I was very happy with the performance.

 

 

 

“It’s no secret I need the rounds. I need to prove that I can go 10 rounds and have plenty left in the tank, and I did that tonight.”

The former IBF, WBA and WBO champion Fury (26-0, 19 KOs) returned to the ring in June and will fight for the second time in less than 75 days following a nearly three-year layoff. Prior to his extended hiatus, the 6-foot-9 Fury established himself as the premier heavyweight boxer in the world by becoming the first man to defeat Wladimir Klitschko in more than 11 ans.

 

 

 

planète (35-4-1, 21 KOs), a 6-foot-5 southpaw who fights out of Germany, has twice challenged for the heavyweight world title. Pianeta faced then-unified champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2013 and lost in a bid for a secondary title against Ruslan Chagaev in 2015.

“Southpaws are a lot more awkward because there’s less of them in the division. You don’t get too much work with southpaws other than when you’re fighting with them. It’s hard to get southpaws to spar in training because there aren’t many heavyweight southpaws around the world. But I do have one interesting fact, every southpaw amateur or professional I’ve ever faced I’ve knocked out. That’s not good for Francesco.

 

 

 

“To be a two-time heavyweight champion is all right. It’s not great because there’s been plenty. To be a three-time heavyweight champion, it’s been done before. So I think I want to set a precedent of being a five-time heavyweight champion without losing a fight. That’s my goal. I always aim for the stars and set big targets.

 

 

 

“If I can beat Francesco Pianeta on Saturday night, I’ve beaten another boxer. Big deal. But if he beats me, he’s going on to something very big. It would be life-changing for him. It I can’t beat Francesco, then I’m going nowhere.

 

 

 

“I think I’m the greatest heavyweight that’s ever been born, so I should handle Francesco Pianeta. And whoever else is out there, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, all the bums out there.

 

 

 

“It’s very easy to win all the belts back. I’ve only got to beat two bums, fondamentalement. Wilder and Joshua and that’s it. They both haven’t got a brain cell between them so it shouldn’t be too hard for a great boxer like myself.”

“Je ne sais pas s'il veut que je l'appelle un combattant du Hall of Fame ou le plus grand, mais je ne pense pas qu'il soit. Il est très battable, et je pense que je peux le battre, aussi simple que cela.”

 

 

 

Rosales (27-3, 18 KOs), combats hors du Nicaragua, fera la première défense du titre mondial du titre qu'il a remporté en avril dernier au Japon, quand il a arrêté Daigo Higa au neuvième tour. Rosales est le cousin de Roman Gonzalez, l'ancien roi de boxe de 4 livres.

 

 

Le champion en titre de la mouche intercontinentale WBO, Barnes (5-0, 1 KO) se battra également à domicile à Belfast devant sa base de fans passionnés. L'un des plus grands boxeurs amateurs irlandais de tous les temps, Barnes se battra pour un titre mondial dans seulement son sixième combat professionnel. Il a remporté deux médailles de bronze (2008 & 2012) dans ses trois voyages aux Jeux olympiques, ainsi que l'or dans le 2019 Championnats d'Europe.

Ainsi soit-il. Je suis heureux d'être un guerrier sur le ring. A la fin de la journée,, combattants se battent, période.

 

 

 

“Je suis impatient de combattre sur Super Channel à nouveau. Je pense que nous faisons de grandes choses à ajouter à l'entreprise télévision par câble de boxe. Plus l'exposition, le meilleur. Je suis prêt, mon équipe est prête. Quand les gars forts se rencontrent, les combats sont intéressants! C'est ce qui est si génial dans ce tournoi. C'est nécessaire pour le sport. Je l'ai déjà dit et je le redis: les fans devraient s'attendre à une belle finale.

 

 

 

“Le camp d'entraînement avant la finale a été le même qu'avant mes autres combats,” Gassiev a commenté. “Mon adversaire est un gaucher, donc j'ai eu différents partenaires d'entraînement et vous devez faire les choses un peu différemment tactiquement contre un gaucher. Mais, outre que rien n'a changé.

 

 

 

“J'ai fait la même quantité de course, exercice physique et combat. Je ne pense pas à ce qu'il fait. Je dois être Murat Gassiev et faire de mon mieux… Je ne pense qu'à moi, mes compétences et ma condition. C'est tout.

 

 

 

“Je me battrais n'importe où dans le monde, mais c'est un plus pour ma mère et mon frère qu'ils peuvent facilement regarder le combat en direct. Je suis sûr que la finale sera un combat très intéressant et bon pour les fans du monde entier. Que le meilleur gagne!”
