Today marks the 36th anniversary of the epic middleweight championship battle between Hagler and Hearns. Long considered the high-water mark of the Four Kings era, Hagler-Hearns stands out for the drama and brutal non-stop action that was compressed into just over eight minutes from start to finish. Following a brief fallow period in the wake of Ali’s retirement, boxing was revitalized when Leonard became a world champion in 1979 and waged his first battle with Durán in 1980. From that point, the Four Kings engaged in a decade-long run of riveting fights that far outperformed any other sport in attention and revenue. They were the most popular stars of sports and American culture.

JOE MESI: “Ich habe so vielen Menschen für diese Ehre zu danken. Ich bin ein Buffalonianer. Es gibt niemanden mehr für ein New York, aber es ist nicht. Dies ist etwas Besonderes für mich, da es sich um die New York State Boxing Hall of Fame handelt. Das verfestigt mich und lässt mich denken, dass ich nicht nur ein lokaler Junge bin. RON SCOTT STEVENS: “Ich weiß, dass die Leute es immer sagen, aber das ist die Wahrheit: Ich schulde so vielen Menschen, die mich während meiner Karriere unterstützt haben. Boxen war für mich immer ein Zuhause in der Ferne und heute fühle ich mich wie zu Hause.
“Ich war 30, in Brooklyn Heights leben, und zurück mit dem Taxi auf Tische warten. In meinem Kopf ging ein Licht aus: Boxen ist der Sport des Außenseiters und ich bin ein Außenseiter. Am nächsten Tag ging ich in Gleasons Fitnessstudio – das Zentrum des Universums. Ich ging durch alle Turnhallen der Stadt, Veranstalter treffen, Manager und Trainer. Ich fing an, Streichhölzer für Veranstalter zu machen, und dann stellte mich Cedric Kushner ein 1980-2002. ZUR SCHULE: “Ich dachte, Boxen sei der dümmste und dümmste Sport aller Zeiten. Wer wollte ins Gesicht geschlagen werden? Ich fing spät an zu boxen. Ich habe ein paar rumgespielt und die Leute sagten, ich sei ziemlich gut. Ich fing an zu boxen, als ich war 20, in der Armee, stationiert in Ft. Kapuze. Vier Jahre später, Ich war in der Olympiamannschaft. Der Grund dafür ist, dass ich einen großartigen Sparringspartner hatte, Ray Mercer. NEW YORK (März 26, 2018) – Boxer Bob Goodman und sein Vater, die spät Murray Goodman, sind unter 23 Mitglieder der Klasse von 2018 Aufnahme in die New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) auf Sonntag Nachmittag (12:30-5:30 p.m. UND), April 29.
