Arbitro di classe mondiale….. Tom Cleary USA Boxing Alumni Association, Classe di 2018 inductee

COLORADO SPRINGS, Giro. (Novembre 12, 2018) – Il tardo Tom Cleary è stato uno degli arbitri più rispettati al mondo durante la sua illustre carriera. Si unisce a un gruppo selezionato nella Classe di 2018 essere inserito nella Hall of Fame della USA Boxing Alumni Association.

 

 

 

La seconda edizione del Boxing USA Alumni Association Hall of Fame di ricezione, organizzato in concomitanza con la 2018 USA Boxing Elite e Campionati Nazionali Giovanili e Junior e Prep Aperto, Dicembre 2-8, si terrà dicembre 7, presso il Radisson Hotel (215 S. Tempio di St.) a Salk Lake City, Utah.

 

 

 

Oltre a Cleary, la classe di 2018 include anche gli Stati Uniti. Medagliati a squadre olimpiche e mondiali (professionale) campioni Roy Jones, Jr., Andre Ward e Claressa Shields, così come un ex direttore nazionale di coaching statunitense di boxe, alla fine degli anni Emanuel Steward.

 

 

 

La classe charter introdotta lo scorso anno inclusa Muhammad Ali e Evander Holyfield, così come allenatori veterani Roosevelt Sanders e Tom Coulter.

 

 

 

Un residente di lunga data a Westchester, Ohio, Cleary è stato un membro della boxe negli Stati Uniti da allora 1982, e ha servito come capo degli ufficiali per la National Collegiate Boxing Association da 2002 fino alla sua scomparsa, maggio 21, 2017.

 

 

 

Ha arbitrato 12 paesi diversi, in quattro continenti, come Ufficiale Internazionale assegnato da AIBA. Tom ha ottenuto una valutazione a tre stelle ed è stato selezionato per lavorare alle World Series of Boxing.

Tom non ha mai dimenticato da dove veniva, dedicando innumerevoli ore ai giovani di Cincinnati, oltre ad aiutare i club di boxe a funzionare in modo efficiente in tutta la sua comunità per più di un quarto di secolo.

Hall of Fame referee Steve Smoger successfully transitioned from amateur to pro boxing

COLORADO SPRINGS, Giro. (Giugno 13, 2018) — Hall of Fame arbitro Steve “Double S” Smoger, arguably the most recognizable and respected official in boxing history, holds the unique distinction of officiating in more states and countries than any of his peers.

 

 

 

Smoger ranks among the top six all-time, Non. 2 americano, in terms of most pro boxing matches officiated (1015), including an incredible 220 world time matches. He has been a referee in some of the greatest boxing matches ever – Vernon Forrest-Shane Mosley, Bernard Forrest-Felix Trinidad, Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor, Roy Jones, Jr.-Hopkins, Micky Ward-Emanuel Burton, Andre Ward-Carl Froch and Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito II among the most notable.

 

 

 

Anche, Smoger has refereed matches featuring a Who’s Who of Boxing: Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes, Evander Holyfield. Roberto Duran, Hector Camacho Sr., James Toney, Mike McCallum, Vinny Paz, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Arturo Gatti, Felix Trinidad, Diego Corrales, Gennady Golovkin, Lucia Rijker, Christy Martin and so many others..

 

 

 

In addition to the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Smoger has also been inducted into four other Hall of Fames in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

 

 

 

As a youngster, Smoger got hooked on boxing, primarily because his father was an “awesome fan”, who religiously watched the popular Friday night boxing series, Gillette Cavalcade of Sports, with his son. Steve’s father told him that boxing was the last version of will and skill, one-on-one, to determine the better man that night.

 

 

 

Smoger said he was too small to play football, too short for basketball, so he became a cross-country runner in high school. A friend invited Smoger to the local YMCA in New Jersey to get checkout its boxing program. Only one day working with a pro boxer was enough for Steve to realize that being a boxer wasn’t for him. But he still loved boxing.

 

 

 

After he started refereeing amateur matches in southern New Jersey and Delaware, Smoger got the break of his life that dramatically changed his life. “Everything in life is timing,” Smoger explained. “The gentleman who gave George Foreman the small American that he proudly waved after winning a gold medal at the 1968 Olimpiadi, Pat Duffy, opened a gym in southern Jersey. I told him that I wanted to train as a referee. I trained under the great Frank Cappuccino and then had to honor to train with Zach Clayton. He trained to music so referees moved without being herky-jerky. In 1978, I started officiating then-AAU boxing and worked out of the Atlantic City PAL gym, which remains a vibrant amateur boxing club. I’m still there 40 anni dopo, serving on its Board of Directors, and I’m also its legal counsel.

 

 

 

“Poi, the boxing gods shined on me. Casinos were coming to Atlantic City in 1978 and boxing was involved at all the casinos there. I was the district attorney in Atlantic City, so after work I went to the PAL gym to workout with the kids. Un giorno, the phone rang in the gym. Nobody else was there, so I answered. It was the New Jersey Boxing Commissioner, ‘Jersey’ Joe Walcott, who asked me who was in charge. I said that, a quel tempo, I was in charge. He said there was a pro show that night and they were short of inspectors. He said that they need somebody to watch the hand wrapping. I told him I was well versed in hand wrapping and that was it, I was hired to work that show and they gave me the royal treatment.”

 

 

 

“Walcott’s chief second was Chief Roy Johnson, who Walcott brought into the state commission. He hired me in 1982 as a probationary referee. Due anni dopo, I was a licensed referee and, come dicono, the rest is history.”

 

 

 

Oggi, Smoger is still a very active referee, traveling around the world to officiate, as well as co-chairman of the International Boxing Association (IBA) funzionari, and a valued USA Boxing Alumni Association advisor. RAGING BABE BRUNCH NEW YORK, NEW YORK A SUCCESS, DUVA HONORED

NEW YORK – Giugno 28, 2016 – Inspiration was in the air June 11th as the women of boxing gathered at Seven Bistro for The Raging Babe Brunch, New York, New York, Raging Babe Events’ seventh gathering of its kind, designed to break barriers and leverage contacts to conduct business and build friendships. The gathering was the first in New York City, and drew a slew of “Raging Babes,” who together honored Main Events’ Amministratore delegato Kathy Duva. Included in those who attended were former NYSAC Chairwoman Melvina Lathan, Arbitro Sparkle Lee, IFBA World Flyweight Champion Eileen Olszewski, WBC World Super Bantamweight Champion Alicia Ashley, four-time National Boxing Champion Melissa St. Vil, IWBF World Super Featherweight Champion, Ronica Jeffrey and guest speaker John Femiano of John Francis LLC.
After a rousing introduction by “Raging Babe” Michelle Rosado, attendees brunched and networked, with Frank Sinatra crooning in the background, sharing their triumphs and business cards. “The brunch is so much more than just a breakfast event,” detto Rosado. “The connections forged here have resulted in business collaborations and friendships. What started as an annual event, has grown, and I can easily see us gathering quarterly, all over the country.”
Post brunch, the time had come to honor one of boxing’s trailblazers, Kathy Duva, who was presented the Raging Babe Luminary Award. Among those who shared stories of Duva’s boxing growth and dominance was Main Events’ Vice Presidente delle Operazioni, Joleen Mizzone, who has worked side-by-side with Duva for 19 anni. Although she couldn’t attend in person due to being in California with three of Main Events’ combattenti, Mizzone had colorful, but moving words for her friend and colleague. “Kathy Duva has been through a lot in her life. I have seen her overcome so much in these past 19 anni. I remember thinking to myself, “Wow she is one of the strongest people I know!” She has inspired me to be the person I am in this business. Her morals and eye for this business are [espletivo] extraordinary.
“One of the secrets to happiness is the innocent enjoyment of simple things,” said first-time brunch attendee and former NYSAC Chairwoman Melvina Lathan as she described the event. “Con questo in mente, how wonderful to share a moment in time with a group of women, dining,, conversing, and laughing, all the while emanating beauty, potere, grace and joy, without even trying. It was intimate, genuine and loads of fun, especially the reading of the infamous congratulatory letter submitted by Jolene!”
“This was another inspiring event in one of the greatest cities in the world,” said Rosado of the brunch. “There was so much talent, so much heart, so much passion, and so much boxing knowledge contained in these four walls. Il leggendario arbitro Mickey Vann officerà l'evento inaugurale scozzese dell'MBC questo sabato

Il leggendario arbitro del campionato di trotto mondiale Mickey Vann farà uno dei suoi viaggi internazionali più brevi da molto tempo, il prossimo fine settimana, quando dirige la prima Commissione di boxe di Malta (MBC) evento sanzionato in Scozia, lo Stewart Allan ha promosso l'evento sabato alla palestra Rivals di Wishaw 25th Aprile 2015.

Sarebbero passati circa sette anni prima che Vann arbitrasse il suo primo incontro di campionato nazionale, la lotta per il titolo BBBofC Central Area Featherweight tra Steve Pollard e Steve Farnsworth al Tiffany's Nightclub di Hull sul 29th Marzo 1983.

 

Tre anni dopo Vann ha arbitrato la sua prima gara di campionato internazionale, la lotta per il titolo dei pesi leggeri del Commonwealth tra Langton Tinago dello Zimbabwe e Graeme Brooke dell'Australia ai Granada Studios di Manchester il 23rd Agosto 1986.

 

Con numerosi inglesi, Concorsi del Commonwealth e del titolo europeo al suo attivo sul 8th Giugno 1990 Vann ha arbitrato il suo primo incontro nel campionato del mondo, la lotta per il titolo WBC World Minimumweight tra il giapponese Hideyuki Ohashi e il thailandese Napa Kiatwanchai a Tokyo, Giappone.

 

Ad oggi Vann ha arbitrato centoquarantatre Internazionali, Concorsi inter-continentali e per il titolo mondiale per le organizzazioni sanzionatorie mondiali, come WBC, WBO, IBF, WBU ecc. Oltre a un numero ancora maggiore di europei, Repubblica, Combattimenti per il titolo nazionale britannico e irlandese durante la sua carriera fino ad oggi ottocentottantadue.

 

Il più recente di questi periodi è stato il WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title fight tra l'ucraino Oleksandr Usyk e il russo Andry Knyazev, che ha avuto luogo a Kiev lo scorso fine settimana.

Ce ne sono alcuni di anni fa che posso ricordare, come Jean-Marc Renard contro Farid Benredjeb, oh che guerra era quella, entrambi sono finiti in ospedale.

 

Un altro incontro memorabile è stato Cassius Boloyi contro Phillip Ndou, È stata una guerra, una guerra assoluta

 

Erano due sudafricani ma di tribù diverse, volevano che lo arbitrassi, non un sudafricano, che è stato molto apprezzato.

 

Ricordo di aver arbitrato la lotta per il titolo dei pesi leggeri obbligatoria WBC, tra Leavander Johnson e Miguel Angel Gonzalez, in un'arena, che è stata un'esperienza.

 

Ho arbitrato in America Jorge Paez e Angel Manfredy, è stata una lotta formidabile, infatti ha arbitrato tre o quattro volte in America.

 

Penso che se li conti tutti penso di aver arbitrato in trentanove paesi diversi, Ho lasciato la scuola a sette anni, sono tornato a tredici e sono ripartito a quattordici e allora non sapevo che ci fossero così tanti paesi nel mondo. Io non, onestamente.

 

Mi piace solo quello che faccio, sai che sono stato in Russia, Argentina, Giappone, ovunque, Sono appena tornato da Kiev.

 

La gente viene per le fotografie, anche a Kiev, con Mickey il ballerino e poi fanno finta di muoverti, è amorevole.

 

Non scelgo niente in realtà, Scelgo solo quali sono state le grandi lotte che mi sono piaciute.

 

Mi sono qualificato come arbitro di prima qualità in 1978 e sto ancora andando, A quel punto avevo già fatto centinaia di combattimenti, non è davvero un lavoro, è solo divertimento in quanto tale.

 

Non ero un bravo combattente professionista, Ero un buon dilettante, Ho avuto sessantasei combattimenti come dilettante e ne ho persi diciannove, ma avevi tre incontri al giorno nei campionati, hai combattuto la mattina, hai vinto che hai combattuto nel pomeriggio e se hai vinto che hai combattuto di notte per passare al turno successivo, nei campionati dell'esercito e nei club per ragazzi, questo è quello che abbiamo fatto tutti.

 

Come professionista ho quattordici incontri ma ne ho persi nove, ma mi sono divertito, Sono contento di essere diventato professionista e sono contento di aver combattuto, Sono contento di aver combattuto dilettanti e professionisti e mi è mancato quando mi sono ritirato e volevo fare qualcosa e il mio manager mi ha suggerito di arbitrare, Volevo allenare ma Tommy Miller, il mio manager mi ha detto "Gesù Mick cosa potresti insegnare a qualcuno", così mi ha detto che vuoi fare l'arbitro, così ci ho messo dentro e mi ci sono voluti due anni per qualificarmi.

 

Mi sono divertito ogni minuto e alcune volte sono stato migliore di altre, infatti mi odiavano in Scozia, pensavano che odiassi gli scozzesi. L'ho sentito molte volte alla radio.

 

Alex Morrison te lo dirà, pensava che odiassi gli scozzesi, Non ero, solo che non sembravano mai ottenere il verdetto da me, quindi è abbastanza ironico che questo Sabato sono il promotore scozzese e i pugili scozzesi che mi hanno chiesto per questo spettacolo.
