Primero, Petrov must defeat Bergman “Snake” Aguilar (15-6-1, 5 KOs) on Thompson’s 3.2.1. Boxeo evento, next Sunday, 18 de abril, at the Omega Products Event Center in Corona, TAL COMO. La pelea, programado para 8 rondas, will be the opening fight on the three-fight card.

Here is what Petr Petrov had to say about his upcoming fight, training from Madrid, España, a potential future world title shot, y más.
On his upcoming bout against Aguilar:

This is a chance to show how far I’ve grown as a fighter. I truly believe I’m the best version of myself and having Danny Zamora in my corner for this fight will be a big help. I want to put on a great performance that has people wondering how I would fare against top level guys. Aguilar is a tough durable guy who has been in the ring with some good fighters, so I know he’s coming to fight.”

On recent training camp:

I’m wrapping up my final days of training camp in Madrid, España, and I’m feeling very strong. Being home, and refocusing, gave me a new perspective. I arrive to the U.S. este domingo, which is plenty of time to acclimated to the time change. I feel more an enthused than ever.

Sobre lo que hará una victoria por su carrera:

I have been out of the ring for a year-and-a-half, even though I had three fights since my loss to Ivan Baranchyk, but that is the fight people remember. I want people to see my improvement and realize I can be a force at the 140 libra. division.”

On how far he believes he’s away from a world title shot:

I think with a couple of wins I’ll be in line for a title eliminator if I put on exciting performances. Con Jose Ramirez y Josh Taylor fighting to unify the division, I think soon some belts will open up. I have to perform and be ready to succeed at each and every step along the way. I’m hoping by the end of 2021 I can be in a big fight with a world champion.

DEADWOOD, DAKOTA DEL SUR. (Marzo 9, 2018) – Undefeated 140-pound contender Regis Prograis scored a sensational second-round knockout over former unified world champion Julius Indongo to capture the Interim WBC Super Lightweight title Viernes night on SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION from Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, DAKOTA DEL SUR.

Con la victoria, PROGRAMAS (21-0, 18 KOs) will now likely face the winner of next week’s Amir Imam (No se ha clasificado. 1 CMB) and Jose Ramirez (No se ha clasificado. 3 CMB) matchup for the currently vacant WBC world title belt. PROGRAMAS, de Houston a través de Nueva Orleans, was dominant from the opening bell and has now scored knockouts in 14 de su pasado 15 peleas.

“I had to put on a show for SHOWTIME, for Deadwood, and for all my fans in Houston and New Orleans and just the whole division,"Dijo Prograis. “I had to put on a show for everybody. I am now the man at 140.”

In the final seconds of the opening round, Prograis landed a fierce jab that knocked Indongo (22-2, 11 KOs) a la lona. En la segunda ronda, Prograis continued to attack the much taller Indongo, and floored him for the second time with a huge left hand. With a wobbly Indongo returning to his feet, Prograis continued the onslaught and immediately attacked his prone opponent and knocked him down for a third time in the fight. Referee Ian John-Lewis gave Indongo one more opportunity to remain in the fight, but Prograis ended it once and for all with a third knockdown in the round via a left hook and fourth in the fight at 2:54 of round number two.

Following the knockout, SHOWTIME analyst Steve Farhood spoke to the rising star in the wide-open and competitive 140-pound division. Farhood was especially impressed with Prograis, who was making his fifth SHOWTIME appearance.

“It was an awesome performance,” said the International Boxing Hall of Famer and noted boxing historian Farhood. “I was surprised he finished Indongo as quickly as he did and as emphatically as he did.

“I think now boxing fans know that this guy deserves to be rated among the top three or four in the 140-pound division. Because it was a such an emphatic win, all the other fights at 140, whether it’s de mañana fight between Mikey Garcia and Lipinets, you got to feel like they have to answer to Regis. He deserves it.”

El WBC No. 2 ranked fighter at 140 pounds immediately turned his attention to a possible matchup with the winner of next week’s Imam-Ramirez matchup.

“I want the real title now, and I don’t think those two dudes will fight me after tonight,"Dijo Prograis. “Indongo only had one loss to Terrence Crawford, the pound for pound best, and I stopped him a round before Crawford did. I don’t see anybody trying to fight me right now.”

In an IBF Junior Welterweight eliminator, Ivan Baranchyk (17-0, 11 KOs) thrilled fans at The Deadwood Mountain Grand with his all-action style, parada Petr Petrov (38-6-2, 18 KOs) en 1:12 de la ronda número ocho.

Baranchyk, making his sixth appearance on SHOWTIME, was the much stronger, more aggressive fighter than his game but ultimately overmatched opponent, who showed commendable toughness and resiliency to stay in the fight. Baranchyk knocked Petrov to the canvas with the very first punch of the fight, and scored a second knockdown in the second round with a barrage of powerful punches.

With a bruised and battered Petrov trapped against the ropes in the eighth round, referee Mark Nelson stopped the fight. Con la victoria, Baranchyk moves a step closer to becoming the mandatory challenger for the winner of the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event on Saturday night between 140-pound IBF world titlist Sergey Lipinets and lightweight titleholder Mikey Garcia.

Baranchyk, who out-landed Petrov 159-118 en golpes totales y 94-76 en golpes de poder, was pleased with the improvements he showcased tonight.

“I thought I fought a more controlled than in the past and something my new coach has been helping me with,"Dijo Baranchyk, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the IBF 140-pound division. “I knew I had to keep punching to the body, punching to the body. And I did that well tonight.

“I was surprised they stopped the fight when they did. I felt like I won every round and controlled the fight. I knew I won the fight. It was a good fight for me.”

En la primera pelea de la transmisión por televisión, prospecto de peso pesado Junior Fa (14-0, 8 KOs), de auckland, Nueva Zelanda, kept his unbeaten record intact with a majority decision victory over Detroit’s Craig Lewis (14-2-1, 8 KOs). The judges scored the eight-round fight 76-76, 78-74, 79-73.

Fa, who twice beat fellow New Zealand native and current WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in the amateurs, was the more active fighter against the 33-year-old former collegiate basketball player Lewis, who took the fight on just two weeks’ notice. Fa started the fight quickly, throwing a fight-high 53 punches in round one and a 24-13 lead in overall connects in the first two rounds. As the fight wore on, Fa’s pace slowed and Lewis was able to grow into the fight, out-landing Fa 50-45 in rounds five through eight, to close the overall gap to 82-81 in favor of Fa.

Fa, who made his SHOWTIME debut in November with a first-round knockout of Freddy Latham, was unhappy with his performance despite the win.

“I’m happy I was able to get the decision, but I wasn’t happy with my performance at all,"Dijo Fa. “If I had to give myself a grade, it would be an F. I fought with too much emotion the first few rounds and that threw me off a little bit.

“I was pretty surprised with the one judge who saw it even. I saw him getting tired but I was just flat tonight. I can learn a lot from this fight and where I went wrong and what not to do in my next fight.”

Lewis felt that taking the fight on short notice played a role in the outcome.

I needed a little more time to train as my conditioning fell off a bit towards the end,” said the former National Golden Gloves gold medalist Lewis. “But overall, I was happy with my performance, I thought it was probably a draw.”

En acción del respaldo no televisado, prospecto de peso pesado invicto Trey Lippe Morrison (14-0, 14 KOs), the son of former heavyweight world champion Tommy Morrison, detenido Oswaldo Ortega (3-8, 1 KO) with a third-round (1:18) technical knockout in his first fight en 15 meses since suffering a hand injury.

PHILLY PROMOTER ARTIE PELLULO: “FLANAGAN-PETROV STEALS THE SHOW AND COULD BE FIGHT OF THE YEAR!”

PARA PUBLICACION INMEDIATA

Filadelfia, Pensilvania / Manchester, Reino Unido (Marzo 30, 2017)–Legendary Philadelphia fight face Artie Pellulo lands in the UK early next week confident of adding a 45th world champion to his stellar CV.
La 61 year old Italian-American’s highly regarded lightweight Petr Petrov (38-4-2) makes a mandatory challenge to home hero ‘Turbo TerryFlanagan, the undefeated WBO king, at Manchester Arena en sábado week and he looks like being frantic. BT Sport and BoxNation screen live in the UK.
Last Wednesday, Glynn Evans spoke to the Philly-based promoter.
It’s been extremely difficult to find any background info regarding Petrov’s personality. Can you enlighten us?
I’ve been promoting fighters for almost 30 años, Incluyendo 44 world champions and I have to say that Petr is one of the nicer individuals I’ve come across; the type you’d have over your house. He’s just married the girl he’d been dating for a very long time. He’s a gentleman, a pleasure to work with.
Psychologically, how will he cope performing before thousands of baying Brits?
I’ve consistently gone on record as saying that the British fight fans are terrific. You’ll recall I had dealings with Ricky Hatton. They support their heroes like no other. But I guarantee that the crowd will not adversely affect Petrov.
Being on the road is actually like being at home for him because he’s never ever fought in Russia and hasn’t featured in his adopted homeland of Spain for five years. He’s won all six of his fights in the US and, antes de que, he competed in Germany, Argentina and Montenegro. I guarantee that facing a partisan crowd in Manchester will not affect his job. De hecho, it will energize him, excite him.
And I’ve no problem whatsoever with the officials in the UK. Matter of fact, I won my first world title in Britain when Otis Grant outpointed Ryan Rhodes in his hometown of Sheffield for the vacant WBO Middleweight title way back in (Diciembre) 1997.
Antes de eso, my fighter Tyrell Biggs was officially ahead on the referee’s card before Gary Mason knocked him out on a Mickey Duff show at the Royal Albert Hall (Octubre 1989) and John Thompson was up on the cards before Liam Smith put him to bed at this very venue 18 months back. You always get a fair shake with the Brits.
What are Petrov’s qualities as a fighter?
I discovered him during his involvement in the ESPN Boxcino Lightweight tournament in early 2014 y, Créeme, between the ropes, él es el verdadero negocio. You only have to watch his tapes to appreciate that he’s relentless, smart, can box or punch and he’s blessed with a very good eye. Petr has a real understanding of what is going on in the ring at any given moment and he can adopt accordingly. He gives a 110% effort every time.
What is your assessment of champion Flanagan? What does Petrov need to be mindful of?
I was ringside the night Terry Flanagan hammered Diego Magdaleno in two rounds because John Thompson challenged Liam Smith that night and what I saw was a very, muy buen boxeador. Terry’s a smart southpaw who’s very tough and keeps coming. No hay duda, he’ll be looking to extend his very impressive unbeaten streak.
What course did you see the fight taking? What key factor will determine the winner?
This fight steals the show and could well be Fight of the Year, en serio. It’s that good a match up. Both Terry and Petr are TV friendly and fan friendly. It’s gonna be great theatre.
There’s no main factor that distinguishes one over the other. It’ll be about how two fighters at the very top of their games handle the pressure and stay with their game plan.
