Former Irish National Team head coach Billy Walsh Now rebuilding Team USA boxing program

2018 USA vs. Irland Northeast Boxing-Tour:
Meer. 12 Boston, Meer. 15 Springfield field~~POS=HEADCOMP, Meer. 21 Manchester, NH

Billy Walsh (Zentrum) is shown here receiving his Best of 2017 Elite World Championships Award

C
OLORADO SPRINGS, Runde. (Februar 22, 2018) – USA Boxing head coach Billy Walsh was the head coach of his native country’s amateur program in Ireland for 12 years and, ironisch, those two squads will compete in three friendly duals next month on the 2018 USA vs. Irland Nordost-Tour.
A 1988 Ireland Olympian, Walsh coached the Irish Team from 2003 bis 2015, and he took over Team USA in 2015, capturing the AIBA’s World Coach of the Year the past two years.
Die USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour will commence März 12 in Boston Royale Entertainment Complex, followed by match-ups on März 15 am MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., and Manchester, NH will close out tours onMärz 21 The Manchester Downtown Hotel. Boxen beginnt bei 7:00 p.m. EST in allen drei Städten.

Tickets for any of these events may be purchased online at http://go.teamusa.org/2nX3Vjc. Jede Stadt präsentiert bis zu 12 Enden, each to be live-streamed, kostenlos, auf USA Boxing Webseite (www.usaboxing.org).

“Am Ende des Tages,” the 54-year-old Walsh admitted, “it is an unusual situation for me. But I’ve been coaching here two years and Team USA is my team now. I didn’t come here for just a few years. When I eventually leave, Team USA will have developed continuity and a solid program.
I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the worldamazing considering the geographical size of Irelandwith its fightersgreat hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, zu. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.
Boston, natürlich, is known for being Irish friendly, gelinde gesagt. The Mayor of Boston, zum Beispiel, ist Marty Walsh. Coach Walsh has only been in Boston once, 10 years ago with his wife for a short holiday.
I didn’t do or get to see too much,” Walsh added. “but I know that there’s a lot of Irish history in Boston. Boston is a home away from home for the Irish. I have some friends and family there. I even joke that the mayor is my cousin. I understand that there are a lot of Irish in Springfield and Manchester, as well. I’m looking forward to going to all three cities on this tour.
Rosters for the USA and Irish teams will soon be announced.

USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour Kicks-off March 12 in Boston

Fightin’ Irisch” boxing history
Rich in Boston
COLORADO SPRINGS, Runde. (Februar 12, 2018) – “Fightin’ Irisch” and Boston boxing has been synonymous for more than a century, since the Irish first started emigrating to the United States in general, Boston in particular, nach dem Great Potato Famine.
Many Irish and Irish-American boxers have fought in the Greater Boston area, some born and others resettling there. This rich tradition continues next month in a different way when the three-city 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour kicks-off Montag, März 12, im neu renovierten Royale Entertainment Complex im berühmten Theaterviertel von Boston. Die Bostoner Haltestelle, welches von Budweiser präsentiert wird, will have general admission tickets for $20.00 und eine begrenzte Menge von $30.00 reserved tickets go on sale today (Montag, Februar. 12) bei 12 p.m. UND are available to purchase online hier.
The tradition started back in the 19th century with The Boston Strongboy,” John. L. Sullivan (Roxbury, MA), the first millionaire American athlete, as well as the firstglovesworld heavyweight champion and finalbare knucklesheavyweight champion of the world. An International Boxing Hall of Famer, Sullivan won 38 von 38 Profi Kämpfe, 30 durch Knockout kommen, with only one loss and two draws.
Another Hall-of-Famer from that era, Jake Kilrain (29-5-8, 17 KOs), lived in Somerville and Quincy, both Boston suburbs. Kilrain (1829-1899) also reigned as world heavyweight champion.
Irish boxers from Greater Boston continued this rich tradition through the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries with world champions and top contenders such as welterweight Paddy Duffy (31-3,16, 18 KOs), Lawrence welterweight Mike Glover(Cavanaugh – 30-5-5, 16 KOs), and Charlestown welterweight Mikrofon “Twin” Sullivan(28-6-16, 17 KOs), and Newton bantamweight Jimmy Walsh (33-10-20, 14 KOs)
In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Irisch” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 KOs) wurde fallengelassen 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Jimmy Carter, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, jedoch, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.
Arlington heavyweight Tom McNeeley (37-14, 28 KOs), unsuccessfully fought for the world title in 1961, stopped in the fourth round of his Toronto fight versus defending champion Floyd Patterson, and McNeeley’s son, Boston-native and later Medfield resident Peter “Hurrikan” McNeeley (47-7, 30 KOs) famously was stopped in the opening round by “Bügeleisen” Mike Tyson in the latter’s first fight after his release from prison.
In the 1980’s, Irish boxers made their way to Boston to fight; some returned home after their careers, others relocated in the area. In 1984, Irland-native Sean Mannion (42-14, 13 KOs), who had moved to the Dorchester section of Boston, lost a 15-round decision in Madison Square Garden to Mike McCallum für die World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight World Championship.
Steve “Celtic WarriorCollins (25-2-1, 18 KOs) moved to Everett, later to Brockton, to work with Goody und Pat Petronelli, who handled Marvelous Marvin Hagler throughout is Hall of Fame career. Collins captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO-) middleweight and super middleweight world titles before moving back to Ireland.
Collins’ jüngerer Bruder, Packie Collins, also moved to Brockton to fight. He later worked with Irish heavyweight champion Kevin “Der Klonkoloss” McBride (35-10-1, 29 KOs), who went on to knock Tyson out and into retirement. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, Billy Walsh, at the European Games. Both were also Ireland Olympians, beziehungsweise, in 1988 und 1992.
Another Ireland Olympian, Wayne “Pocket RocketMcCullough (27-7, 18 KOs), moved to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland. The luck of the Irish wasn’t with him in Boston in 1997, when he lost his World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight title at Hynes Convention Center, by way of a 12-round split decision to Daniel Zaragoza.
Arguably the most famous and popular Irish-American boxer, outside of Sullivan and Jack Dempsey, is Lowell junior welterweight “Irisch” Micky Ward (38-13, 27 KOs), who was involved in three Fight of the Year award winners, two from his epic trilogy with Arturo Gatti, and the first boxer with more than 10 career losses to earn a $1-million purse. Ward’s life was portrayed by another Boston icon, actor Mark Wahlberg, in the award-winning movie, “The Fighter.
Irish boxers are still coming to Boston to fight. Locally-based Murphys Boxing has promoted numerous shows in Boston featuring world-class boxers such as Gary “Spitze” O'Sullivan and undefeated super bantamweight TJ “Leistung” Doheny (18-0, 13 KOs), as well as undefeated rising stars such as StingRay Mayotte and New England & Massachusetts heavyweight champion Niall Kennedy (10-0, 6 KOs).
The Irish team will announce its boxers later this month after the conclusion of its National Championships.
Headlining Team USA’s roster is 2017 WM-Dritte Troy Isley(Alexandria, VA). USA Boxing’s team will also include Virginia Fuchs (Zelt, Texas), der gerade Silber bei der verdient hat 2017, 2016 Jugend-Weltmeister und 2017 Elite Continental Championships Silbermedaillengewinner, delante Johnson (Cleveland, OH), 2017 USA Boxing Heavyweight National Champion Jared Anderson (Toledo, OH) und 2016 Junioren-WM-Dritte und 2017 USA Boxing Superschwergewicht National Champion, Richard Torrez (Tulare, SOWIE). Granite Chin’sRumble at The RIM” OFFIZIELLE ERGEBNISSE

Richard “Popeye the Sailor Man” Rivera
Good to finish because he eats his spinach
Russell Kimber wins pro debut
HAMPTON, N.H. (Dezember 9, 2017) — Colorful light heavyweight prospect Richard “Popeye der Seemann” Rivera blieb ungeschlagen (5-0, 4 KOs), Veteran Roberto “The Old” Valenzuela, letzter Nacht (Sa.) in der “Rumble at The RIM” Hauptereignis, von Granit Chin Promotions präsentiert, at The RIM Sports Complex in Hampton, New Hampshire.
Rivera, Kampf aus Hartford (CT), controlled the action from the opening bell against his battle-tested opponent from Mexico, who had a tremendous experience advantage in his 147th Profi-Kampf, compared to Rivera’s fifth.
Valenzuela spent most of the time on the ropes, while Rivera teed-off on him, until a beautiful placed left hook by Rivera decked Valenzuela, who failed to get up until after referee Mike Ryan completed the 10-count.
A busload of Rivera’s fans drove five hours from Hartford through a snowstorm, arriving just before Rivera entered the ring. “That means a lot to me,” Rivera smiled as he spoke about his fans. “We’re more than a gym, wir sind Familie.
I was so used to an amateur style but now I’m a pro. I’m relaxing and picking my punches. Nächster, I want to win the New England title. It’s vacant and I want it!”
This was our first show in New Hampshire and I consider it a success,” Copromotor Chuck Shearns sagte,, “despite some things going against us like tonight’s weather. We’re grateful for the support we received from Hampton, New Hampshire, the commission and local businesses. They worked with us and we can’t wait to return.
The son and nephew of multiple-time world kickboxing championsfather Tommy and uncleworked his cornerPeabody, MA Russell Kimber had a promising pro debut against tough Nathan Schulte in a match contested at a 185-pound catchweight. The 32-year-old Kimber, who was the crowd favorite having lived several years in New Hampshire, overcame the determined Schulte for a hard-fought victory by way of a four-round majority decision.
I was a little nervous with this being my first time in a pro ring,” Kimber admitted after his fight. “I hadn’t been in a ring for 1 ½ years and there was some ring rust. Jetzt, I know what I need to good, and I’ll be a lot better next fight. This was my first camp and I’ve learned a lot. I’d like to stay busy, come back in late January, early February.
Undefeated Whitman, MA junior welterweight prospect Mikrofon “Bad Man” JE, Jr.charged across the ring, unloading a powerful right that immediately sent Bardraiel Smith auf die Leinwand. Smith somehow got to his feet but Ohan quickly ended Smith’s night, only 30-second into round one, as referee Ryan waved off the action.
New England cruiserweight champion and the show’s co-promoter, Iraq War veteran Chris Traietti (25-5, 19 KOs) übertroffen Fabian Valdez en route to a win by second-round knockout in a stay-busy fight to close out 2017. In a non-title fight contested at a 185-pounds catchweight, the Quincy, MA-based Traietti floored his game Mexican opponent with a straight right midway through the opening round, closing the show in the second round with a series of unanswered punches.
The only New Hampshire native on the card, Claremont junior middleweight Ricky Ford(1-1-1) won his first pro fight, taking a lop-sided, four-round unanimous decision over pro MMA fighter Andy Aiello, who made his pro boxing debut.
In another stay-busy fight, former world-rated Ryan “Der polnische Prinz” Kielczweski(27-3, 9 KOs), fighting out of Quincy (MA), needed only 51-seconds to finish off Mexican lightweight Francisco “Der Affe” Medal. Kielczweski hit Medal with a with a lethal left to the body, leaving Medal in obvious pain and unable to rise before the 10-count.
New Jersey middleweight Chris “Sandmann” Thomas (7-0-1, 4 KOs) kept his unbeaten pro record intact with a second-round stoppage of Demetrius Thomas. Thomas used a rapid-fire combination to drop Thomas, who beat the count, but he was getting hammered when referee Ryan stopped the fight late in the second round.

After calling the recently shuttered Rockingham Park in Salem, NH home for the past eight years, Combat Zone is coming to the Armory Room on-site at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Manchester.

I’m very excited about bringing the promotion back home to where it all first started at the Radisson. We feel the new location will allow us to make the necessary changes to appeal to a wider audience while continuing to provide action-packed fights for our loyal fan base,” said Calvin Kattar, who recently returned to action inside the cage and improved his record to 16-2 and his rank to #2 among pro featherweights in New England.

The Kattar brothers and matchmaker Ryan Fennelly are still putting the Combat Zone 60 card together, but fight fans can expect to be treated to the MMA Lightweight Amateur Title defense when challenger Gerald Meuse (4-1) from Boston tries to tale the belt from undefeated champion Dave Brown (3-0). Braun, who hails from Laconia, NH, earned the belt in his last fight when he beat the previously unblemished Shawn Melanson.

What shapes up as another terrific and intense match-up on what will be a full card of action includes the pro kickboxing fight between Ray Shawdee, who coaches at New England Top Team in Windham, NH and hails rom Lowell, MA, and Maine’s always fearsome Crowsneck Boutin. This fight has potential title implications for the winner.

Del Valle to meet Crespo April 9!

ODV.jpg

Bayamon, PR (April 1, 2016) – Super bantamweight contender Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle returns to the ring on Samstag, April 9 to face New England titlist Josh Crespo in an eight round bout at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH.

Tickets ab $35 are on sale by calling 860-982-2532 oder 603-898-2311.

A blood and guts warrior who gives fans their monies worth every time he enters the squared circle, Del Valle has an outstanding 20-2 Rekord mit 15 gewinnt durch KO. Im November 2015, the Bayamon native stopped 50-plus fight veteran Jose Juan Beltran after two rounds in Comerio, Puerto Rico. Currently signed to an exclusive promotional contract with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, Del Valle has his sights set on another big fight but first must conquer the task at hand.

Born and raised in New Haven, CT, Crespo is riding a wave of confidence having defeated Jorge Abiague (9-1) for the New England super bantamweight championship last November. Crespo’s professional ledger is a deceptive 6-2-3 mit 2 KO’s but he’s unbeaten in his last five, facing two undefeated fighters in the process.

If victorious, Del Valle is expected to appear in a televised bout in the immediate future. While some potentially view this fight as a given for Del Valle prior to bigger and better things, the 29-year-old knows that records don’t tell the whole story and Crespo’s hunger can’t be overlooked.

“I’ve got big plans but that all goes out the window if I don’t do what I have to against Crespo,” Del Valle said from his training camp in Puerto Rico. “Anybody who really knows boxing understands that a record doesn’t determine how good a fighter is. I’ve seen Crespo before. He’s tough and willing to take on anybody which is evident by the fact that he’s facing me rather than a lesser opponent. I’m training like I’m the underdog since this fight is close to his hometown and I’ve got a lot on the line.”

Fans can interact with Del Valle on Twitter @Orlanditoboxing or via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Orlandito-Del-Valle-111406195543360
