The Swedish professional boxer, who is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, held the WBC Super Middleweight title from 2015 till 2017. På April 24, 2015 he defeated Anthony Dirrell to win the WBC championship belt and defended it successfully against George Groves at the MGM Grand Las Vegas on September 12, 2015 during Mexican Independence weekend. He competed in a 2017 Fight of the Year candidate against James Degale that ended in a majority draw at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last January. He made his light heavyweight debut by defeating WBA World Champion Nathan Cleverly in August and will now look to become a three-time champion against Stevenson.

LAS VEGAS (Mars 9, 2018) – Erislandy Lara, the longest reigning world champion at 154-pounds, will clash with IBF champion “Swift” Jarrett Hurd in a highly-anticipated super welterweight title unification live on SHOWTIME (10 pm ET/7 PM PT) as part of an exciting card presented by Premier Boxing Champions Saturday, April 7 from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
I co-main event, Super mellanvikt världsmästare Caleb Truax will make the first defense of his IBF title against James DeGale in a rematch of one of the biggest upsets of 2017 that saw Truax wrestle the belt from DeGale on his home turf in London last December.

Lara vs. Hurd is a classic contrast in styles that could force each fighter to raise their game to another level. Lara is a crafty southpaw who relies on his superior boxing skills to confound opponents, while Hurd is a pure pressure boxer-puncher that stalks his opponents and isn’t easily frustrated.
Lara, a Cuban whose nickname is “Den amerikanska drömmen”, is coming off a unanimous decision victory on SHOWTIME over Terrell Gausha in October. Hurd was on the same card and defeated former champion Austin Trout when Trout’s corner stopped the fight in the 10th runda. That paved the way for this unification showdown.
The 34-year-old Lara (25-2-2, 14 Kos), who lives and trains in Houston, Texas, won his world title with a TKO victory over Alfredo Angulo in 2013 and has successfully defended it seven times, which includes wins over Trout, Ishe Smith and Vanes Martirosyan.
“I’m very excited and motivated for this fight and to once again be headlining on the best network in boxing on SHOWTIME, is truly a pleasure,” Said Lara. “I look forward to adding another belt to my collection on April 7 and to proving that I’m the best 154-pound fighter out there. Everyone tune-in because you don’t want to miss this unification. It’s going to be a legendary night and one for the history books.”
The undefeated Hurd (21-0, 15 Kos) is coming off a career-defining TKO victory over the former champion Trout in his last fight on Oktober. 14. It was the first defense of the title for the 27-year Hurd of Accokeek, Maryland, who won the championship with a TKO victory over Tony Harrison on Feb. 25, 2017.
“I plan on being the aggressor for the entire fight, so I’ve been doing some exercises and working on techniques to improve my foot work so that I can stay on top of Erislandy Lara,” Said Hurd. “We are not trying to go to the scorecards, so hopefully, I can be the first man to stop him, which I hope to do in the later rounds.
“I called him out, och nu, it has come to pass that I get to become a unified champion against the man everyone considers to be the best and most feared in the division, and that’s Erislandy Lara.”
They call 34-year-old Truax “Golden”, and he punched his ticket to world title gold while on a trip to London in December, when he defeated DeGale by majority decision. Truax (29-3-2, 18 Kos) of Osseo, Minnesota was on a two-fight win streak heading into the match against DeGale. Before that his only losses came against former champions Anthony Dirrell, Daniel Jacobs and Jermain Taylor.
“They made the right call on the decision in England, and I expect to be even more dominant this time around,” Truax said. “I am planning to really just beat up James Gale and get the job done in more efficient fashion this time.’
“Fighting in Las Vegas for the first time will be a very cool experience and I expect it to be friendlier than it was in London. There is a lot of pride on the line for me, being that I’m the first boxing world champion from Minnesota in a long time. So there is a lot on the line for me and I plan to keep that going, especially as a means for supporting my family.”
The 32-year-old DeGale (23-2-1, 14 Kos) was the first British boxer to win a Gold Medal in the Olympics (2008 Beijing Games) and a world championship as a professional. He won his world title with a unanimous decision over Andre Dirrell in 2015 and made two successful defenses before fighting to a draw against Badou Jack on Jan. 14, 2017. It was a brutal standoff between two world champions, but neither man had his hand raised in victory. DeGale, who was coming off of an injury, had his home town crowd behind him but couldn’t deliver a win as Truax scored a stunning upset with the majority decision victory.

LAS VEGAS (Februari. 17, 2018) – Former two-division world champion Danny Garcia returned with a vengeance, knocking out Brandon Rios in a WBC Welterweight Title Eliminator in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Lördag on SHOWTIME from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Returning for the first time since dropping a close split-decision to Keith Thurman in a welterweight world championship unification fight in March of 2017, Garcia reminded fans of his position amongst boxing’s elite at 147 pounds with an early candidate for 2018 Knockout of the Year.
Garcia (34-1, 20 Kos) did his best work in the center of the ring, where he was able to box at a distance and fend off Rios’ furious pace. Rios, who returned in 2017 from a brief retirement, was most effective against the ropes where he gave Garcia trouble with his constant pressure and his favorite weapon – a wide overhand right.
In the ninth round with the fight where Garcia wanted it – in the center of the ring – the Philadelphia native landed a huge counter right to the chin that sent Rios flat on his back. Rios beat the count, but was clearly wobbly on his feet, forcing referee Kenny Bayless to halt the contest at 2:25 of the ninth.
“I felt the ring rust a little bit in the beginning,” Said Garcia, who recorded the 20th knockout of his career. “He’s a good inside fighter and he was giving me some good uppercuts. “I would love the rematch with Keith Thurman. It’s on him. Whenever he’s ready we’ll fight.”
WBA and WBC Champion Thurman isn’t the only potential blockbuster on the horizon for Garcia. Former welterweight champion and the WBC’s No. 1 ranked contender Shawn Porter looms for what would be a massive showdown between the former champions.
Efter kampen, Rios (34-4-1, 24 Kos) was frustrated with the stoppage and promised to return.
“I’m mad. I don’t like going out like that,” Rios said. “I’m a warrior, I got back up and I wanted to continue. I guess they stopped it but I’m mad. I’m mad because I got up.
“I was doing good. I got lazy with the jab and he came over with the right hand and he caught me. I’m a warrior. I’m still in the game. I didn’t think he did much to hurt me. I think it was closer than what he thought it was. He just caught me with a lucky punch. I was ready to continue.”
Boxing’s youngest world champion, David Benavidez, left no questions in a rematch with Ronald Gavril, defending his WBC Super Middleweight World Championship with a dominating 12-round unanimous decision in Lördagens co-feature on SHOWTIME.
The 21-year-old Benavidez and Gavril had fought to a close split-decision in one of 2017’s best fights that saw Benavidez drop to the canvas in the final minute of the 12th och sista omgången. The Phoenix native had no trouble in the immediate rematch, utilizing a stiff jab and a steady diet of combo shots to win a near-shutout over the game Gavril.
Benavidez (20-0, 17 Kos) wore down Gavril with an intelligent body attack, pounding the midsection to open up power shots and jabs to the head. Benavidez had his best round in the fourth, connecting on a huge right uppercut that nearly floored Gavril – who appeared to be saved by the ropes – and then pounced with a series of damaging combo shots.
Benavidez appeared to hurt his right hand in the second half of the fight and stepped off the gas in the 10th, 11th and 12th. But Benavidez, who connected on 41 procent av hans makt skott, still landed the harder shots and utilized a stiff left jab to keep Gavril largely at bay.

Robinson (24-3, 12 Kos) survived and was later deducted a point for hitting after the bell as the fourth round came to a close. The illegal punch floored an unexpected Ugas, who rebounded and continued to dominate the subsequent rounds.
In the opening minute of the seventh, the 31-year-old Ugas landed a massive right that floored Robinson, who beat the count but was clearly hurt. Ugas unleashed an onslaught with a series of combos, forcing referee Robert Byrd to step in to halt the contest at 1:05 with Robinson defenseless against the ropes.
Ugas landed 51 percent of his power shots and was comfortably ahead on all three judges at the time of the stoppage.
“I felt like I was the stronger fighter by far and he didn’t hurt me,” said Ugas. “He lost a point for hitting me after the bell sounded, and knocked me down, but even that didn’t hurt me. He was very awkward and his style threw off my timing.
“Luckily I was able to land body shots that I knew were hurting him. I was able to dictate the pace and we never in trouble.
“I want Errol Spence next. Everyone wants Errol.”

“I took a little under a year off just to enjoy my life. I’ve worked hard my whole life; I’ve been boxing for 20 år. I just wanted to be a regular person and let my mind rest, spend time with my daughter and enjoy some of my money.

“I trained a little bit different this time. I had way more time than the first fight to prepare. Last time was four weeks, this time I had a full 10 weeks. I have done a lot of rounds of sparring and a lot of work related to this fight.
“I learn after every fight. From the first fight against Benavidez, I learned even more because it was a tough, tight fight.
“His people tried to make him a superstar before he fought me. I don’t know what people said after the first fight, but they should wait until after the rematch. I’m the stronger fighter.
“The difference in this fight is going to be who boxes smarter. I feel I’m the smarter fighter because if I need to box, I box; if I need to put pressure, I put pressure. I can adapt.
“I think this is going to be the fight of the year. It’s going to be special. The fans should all come see this fight because it’s going to be amazing with two warriors.

FILADELFIA (Januari 31, 2018) – Philadelphia-native and two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia has thrived in the underdog role several times throughout a career that has seen him defeat a slew of top champions. Just like Garcia triumphed over Amir Khan and Lucas Matthysse in two of his greatest wins, Garcia’s hometown Philadelphia Eagles will look to upset the odds this Sunday in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots.
“When you’re an underdog, it’s all about using that energy and that anger to show the doubters that you can do anything,” Said Garcia. “You just have to have that absolute belief in yourself and you can win anything.”
For the fighter who still lives and trains in his hometown, just like so many sports fans in the area, the Eagles bringing home a Super Bowl victory would be the culmination of childhood dreams.
“I’ve been watching the Eagles since I was a little kid,” Said Garcia. “When I was little I moved to a neighborhood where football was really important and that helped me fall in love with the sport.”

LOS ANGELES (Januari 9, 2018) – mästare två division världen Danny “Swift” Garcia och tidigare världsmästare Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios gick ansikte mot ansikte för första gången Tisdag vid en presskonferens i Los Angeles för att tillkännage sin main event kraftmätning äger rumLördag, Februari. 17 leva på Showtime från Mandalay Bay Events Center i Las Vegas och presenteras av Premier Boxing Champions.
Även i närvaro Tisdag var WBC Super mellanvikt världsmästare David Benavidez och utmanare Ronald Gavril, som möts i ett omspel av deras spännande VM-titel kamp från september i co-inslag i telecast.

DANNY GARCIA
“Jag känner mig riktigt bra psykiskt och fysiskt just nu. Min kropp är utvilad och redo att ha en stor 2018 startande Februari 17.
“Du måste vara fokuserad för att lyckas i en kamp som detta och jag tror Brandon Rios vet att. Jag tränar hårt så jag hoppas att han är alltför. Jag kommer aldrig att ta en kamp off.
“Detta är ett klassiskt kamp av en boxare hålslag mot en brawler. Jag kommer att vara beredd på allt och start 2018 av höger. Jag måste vara fighter Jag har alltid varit.
“Jag är frisk och stark och redo att slåss. Jag sätter förlusten till Keith Thurman bakom mig och gå vidare. Jag måste fokusera på att vara Danny Garcia på Februari 17. Jag kan inte trycka på och försöker göra för mycket, Jag måste bara få vinna.
“Vi var båda mästare samtidigt på 140-pounds och vi fick inte en chans att slåss sedan, men det handlar om timing i boxning. Saker tenderar att träna och nu är vi redo att gå head-to-head.
“Jag har aldrig backa och jag vet att Brandon Rios ser att i mig. Jag kommer alltid att slåss. Det kommer att bli en stor matchup med våra stilar och vår beslutsamhet.
“Jag gillar att titta på de tre sista matcher av min motståndare. Jag tror att det ger mig en bra indikation på vad han kommer att se ut på Fight Night. Jag har tittat band av min sista match också så vi kan få en stor spelplan tillsammans.
“Jag kände mig som jag kämpat den goda kampen mot Thurman. Han visste inte riktigt engagera. Jag trodde efter den fjärde rundan han var i princip skuggboxning. Jag klandrar honom inte eftersom du måste vara dum för att stå framför mig. Vi kommer att göra vissa justeringar och lägga till vad jag redan gör bra.
“Jag har inte erbjudits Shawn Porter kampen, men jag tror att det skulle vara en stor kamp. Han gillar att komma fram och jag är en stor boxare och kontralagare. Jag tror att fansen skulle älska det, men Shawn Porter bör vara försiktig med vad han önskar för.”
BRANDON RIOS
“Alla vet min stil. Jag är inte här för att dansa, Jag kommer att kämpa. Jag ska in där med mitt hjärta för att visa världen att jag är fortfarande en av de bästa ute.
“Jag känner mig stark och jag känner föryngrad. Min kropp behövde lite vila eftersom alla mina slagsmål är krig. Det tog en vägtull på min kropp och nu känner jag mig lika bra som någonsin. Jag är redo att visa världen en annan Brandon Rios.
“Du måste kämpa bäst att försöka vara bäst. Danny Garcia har varit uppe på toppen av denna sport under en lång tid. Jag är alltid redo för ett test.
“Jag brukade inte alltid ta träning och min vikt på lika stort allvar som jag borde ha. Jag var ung och dum och jag gjorde misstag. Dessa misstag är i mitt förflutna och jag är i bra form just nu.
“Jag har tränat riktigt hårt för att ha en full bensintank på Fight Night. Jag kunde ha stannat i pension men jag har det fortfarande i mig och det finns fortfarande mer jag kan få ut av den här sporten. Jag älskar verkligen boxning och jag är glad över att vara tillbaka i en stor kamp som detta.
“Jag är alltid säker när jag får i ringen. Med Robert Garcia där är att ha min bror med mig. Det är bara en annan röst som jag är van vid och att jag litar.
“Att vara tillbaka i ringen var lite nervpåfrestande men jag var glad att få ring rostar bort. Jag gjorde vad jag var tvungen att göra och var glad att få igenom den erfarenheten. Jag är verkligen tacksam för att vara i den här positionen för att bekämpa Danny Garcia.
“Jag har varit redo att kämpa någon av de främsta kämparna. Jag väntade och tog min tid eftersom jag visste att jag skulle kämpa vem skulle öka. Jag fick vad jag ville och nu är det dags att dra nytta.”
DAVID Benavidez
“Jag måste göra ett uttalande om Februari 17. Jag lämnar Mandalay Bay med bältet på min axel. Jag måste få knockout och det är vad jag vill göra.
“Det har varit min dröm sedan jag var liten att förena titlar och det är vad jag arbetar för nu. Jag vill vara en av de bästa i historien om viktklassen och jag arbetar mycket hårt för att uppnå detta.
“Jag är den yngsta super mellanvikt mästare i historien världen och jag ska visa Gavril varför. Jag är oerhört motiverad att se ännu bättre än förra gången och få knockout.
“Jag växte upp i en tid präglad där alla kämpade alla. Det fanns så mycket energi och spänning med varje match och det är vad jag vill föra fans. Detta kommer att bli en stor kamp att du inte vill missa.
“Jag känner att jag vann den första kampen klart. Gavril tror att han kommer att komma och slå ut mig nu, men om han har så mycket förtroende, han borde ha gjort det i den första kampen. Jag tränar väldigt hårt just nu för att gå in där och riva upp honom.
“Strategin att denna kamp kommer att vara lite annorlunda. Vi har en del saker som vi planerar. Men det är fortfarande kommer att bli ett krig, eftersom jag vill vara ett fan vänligt fighter. Jag hoppas att stjäla showen.
“Jag är mästare så jag känner att jag är i stånd att göra några stora matcher inom en snar framtid. Jag vill att vinnaren av World Boxing Super Series 168-pound turnering. Jag är hedrad över att vara i samma kolumn som de andra mästare och jag kan inte vänta med att komma i ringen med dem.
“Jag har inte förbise Gavril första gången. Jag visste att han var en kandidat och han kom i tuff och redo att slåss. Jag vet att hans stil nu så jag kommer att gå till jobbet blir bättre. Det fanns en hel del saker som jag borde ha gjort i den första kampen. Jag kommer att dra nytta den här gången.”
Ronald Gavril
“Jag trodde inte att han var så bra som folk sa att han skulle in i vårt första slagsmål. Han hade inte kämpat några egentliga fighters, så du såg vad som hände när han gick upp mot en.
“Jag är verkligen glad över att vara här och vara i detta läge för en returmatch. Jag vill tacka David Benavidez för att acceptera kämpa mig. Jag trodde att jag vann den första kampen, så jag visste att jag ville detta omedelbart. Jag tjänade här omspel.
“Jag lärde mig en hel del från den första kampen. Jag vet vad jag har att göra bättre den här gången. Strategin kommer att justeras och jag kommer att arbeta ännu hårdare i lägret att vara redo. Jag jobbar på att vara det bästa jag kan mentalt och fysiskt.
“Han är en ung fighter som fortfarande har en hel del saker att lära. Just nu är han mästare, men han kommer att vara redo. Det kommer inte att bli en lätt match för honom. Jag ska in där för att skada honom och vinna kampen.
“Jag kan göra en hel del saker bättre än i den första kampen. Jag visade att jag har de kunskaper i första matchen, och nu jag kommer att förbättra för att få vinna. Jag är här av en anledning. Det kommer inte att bli en lätt match för honom.
“Jag bara tänker på David Benavidez just nu. Jag sätter allt i denna rematch och få bältet. När jag vinner, resten kommer att ta hand om sig själv.”
