NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED, MAIN EVENT THRILLS AS NEF 31 SELLS OUT AURA FOR PORTLAND DEBUT

FOR UMIDDELBAR RELEASE: Portland, Maine (November 3, 2017) - New England Fights (NEF) made its long-awaited debut in Portland, Maine på lørdag night before a sold-out crowd at Aura.

I hovedturneringen av kvelden, hometown favorite Paul Gorman (11-9) took on James Blair (5-2) in a 130-pound catchweight contest. The crowd was on the edge of its collective seat for a thrilling three-round war that will be a definite “kamp av året” candidate for 2017. Gorman pulled off the unanimous decision on the judges’ scorekort.

The ever-popular John “Første klasse” Ray (3-8) returned to the NEF cage after a three-year retirement. Raio faced a game Zenon Herrera (0-6) and came out with the win in the third round when Herrera tapped out to a guillotine choke.

På amatør side av kortet, three new champions were crowned. Terrance Jean-Jacques (3-0) became the new NEF Amateur Heavyweight Champion with a unanimous decision victory over defending champion Nick Gulliver (4-1). Justin Witham (4-4) is the new flyweight titleholder after defeating Nate Boucher (2-1) ved delt avgjørelse. Hilarie Rose (5-3) made history as the first women’s champion in promotion history by capturing the strawweight title against Alex Walker (4-2).

Two milestones were set early in the night as Jayda Bailey (1-0) became the youngest fighter to ever emerge victorious in the NEF cage, while Garry Carr (1-0) took the honor of the oldest fighter to ever win in the NEF cage. Bailey turned 18 just eight days prior to the event. Carr is 56 years young.

In addition to an evening of fights, fans were able to meet special guest Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (24-5). Souza is currently the number-four ranked middleweight in the UFC.

NEF ANNOUNCES MONUMENTAL FIGHT CARD FOR PORTLAND DEBUT

Portland, Maine (Oktober 6, 2017) - New England Fights (NEF) will make its long-awaited debut in Portland on Fredag, November 3, 2017 at Aura with “NEF 31: The Old Port.” Tidligere i dag, the fight promotion announced the full fight card for the event featuring a full slate of professional and amateur mixed-martial-arts bouts.

Maine fan-favorite Paul Gorman (10-9) is scheduled to take on James “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Blair (5-1) in the main event of the evening. Gorman, the former NEF bantamweight titleholder and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt out of the Academy in Portland, makes his return to the NEF cage after a three-year absence. Blair is a hot prospect from the world-renowned American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida where he trains alongside a veritable murderers’ row of current and former world champions like Mike Brown (26-9), Tyron Woodley (18-3-1), and Joanna Jędrzejczyk (14-0) just to name a few.

Reigning NEF Professional Middleweight Champion CJ Ewer (3-0) will be in action when he takes on Crowsneck Boutin (2-3) in a non-title affair. Ewer captured the 185-pound title over the summer when he submitted Mike Hansen (5-6) ved “NEF 30: Rumble in Bangor.” Boutin will be coming off a year-long layoff from competition.

“The Blackpool Ripper” Matt Probin (0-0) makes his pro MMA debut against rugged veteranJosh Parker (6-9). Both Probin and Parker have extensive backgrounds as professional boxers. Probin has trained and competed in Muay Thai in Thailand. Parker is the founder of Ruthless MMA & Boxing of Waterville, Maine.

John “Første klasse” Ray (2-8) will come out of retirement to face Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-5). Raio last fought in the summer of 2015. He is the head coach of First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine. Herrera, a veteran of both the United States Army and Marine Corps, is looking for his first win since joining the professional ranks two years ago.

The amateur side of the card will feature a total of three title fights. NEF Amateur Heavyweight Champion Nick “The Guardian” Gulliver (4-0) will defend his strap against WWE signeeTerrance Jean-Jacques (2-0), mens Nate Boucher (2-0) og Justin Witham (3-4) square off for the vacant flyweight title. Alex Walker (4-1) og Hilarie Rose (4-3) will make history when they battle for the first-ever NEF women’s championship in the strawweight division.

The Walker-Rose fight will be one of four female bouts featured on the “NEF 31” amateur card. Carol Linn Powell (0-0), wife of former NEF Professional Lightweight Champion and current UFC competitor Devin Powell (8-3), is scheduled to make her cage debut against Francesca Morabito (0-0). Jayda “Lil Killah” Bailey (0-0) makes her debut just eight days after her 18th birthday, the legal minimum age for competing in MMA in Maine, in a bantamweight bout with Danae Dostie (0-0) mens Sarah Matulis (0-0) og Chelsea Elizabeth(0-0) face off in yet another double amateur debut.

VETERAN FIGHTERS RETURN TO THE NEF CAGE ON NOVEMBER 3RD IN PORTLAND

FOR UMIDDELBAR RELEASE: Portland, Maine (August 25, 2017) -Ny England Fights (NEF) will make its long-awaited debut in Portland onFredag, November 3, 2017 at Aura with “NEF 31: The Old Port.” Tidligere i dag, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional mixed-martial-arts bout to the card. John “Første klasse” Ray (2-8) vil møte Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-5) at a catchweight of 150-pounds.

For John Raio, the bout will mark his return to the cage after more than two years. Raio retired following his rematch with Bruce Boyington (13-11) i juni 2015. He has decided to make one more run at competing. Competition has been in Raio’s blood since his youth. He won a Maine state championship wrestling for Gardiner Area High School in 1995, and he went on to wrestle for Plymouth State University and the University of Southern Maine. While working for the United States Postal Service, Raio began competing in MMA in 2012. Since his retirement, Raio has concentrated on training fighters at his gym First Class MMA in Brunswick, Maine. He has led several to championship gold in the NEF cage while working full-time at his current position with Bath Iron Works (BIW).

“I’m excited to get back into the cage,” Said Ray. “Two years is a long time after fighting 14 ganger i tre år. I’ve learned a lot about the sport in that time. Our team’s success has motivated me a lot. We have amazing fighters and instructors at our gym. The opportunity to fight in Portland, where I delivered mail for eight years, was too hard to pass up.”

Zenon Herrera last competed in the NEF cage in August 2016. He has split his professional career between boxing and MMA. Herrera is a military veteran, having served four years in the United States Army and five years in the United States Marine Corps. På November 3rd, Herrera will look to score his first win since his amateur days on the Florida MMA circuit.

“It’s been a long time since last in the NEF cage for both myself and John Raio,” Said Herrera. “This will be a great way for both of us to make a return, and I’m very much looking forward to going in with such a well classed person. John and I are both the type who will come forward and never back down. I really think this is going to be a great match that will be enjoyed by all involved.”

HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH ADDED TO NEF 22 FIGHT CARD

Lewiston, Maine (Mars 10, 2016) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, avholder sitt neste arrangement, “NEF 22: Alle veier fører HER” på Lørdag, April 23, 2016 på Androscoggin Bank Colisée i Lewiston, Maine. The fight card will feature a mix of mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts. Tidligere i dag, NEF announced the addition of an amateur heavyweight bout to the MMA portion of the “NEF 22” fight card. Nick Gulliver (2-0) vil møte Dave Smith (2-1) at a fight weight of 265-pounds.

 

Nick Gulliver is a product of John Raio’s First Class MMA gym of Brunswick, Maine, as well as the Foundry – en brasiliansk Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) academy located in Farmington, Maine. He made his amateur debut last June at “NEF XVIII,” submitting Sonny Spratt (0-2) i første runde. Gulliver followed up that victory with a technical knockout (WHO) win over Jason Field (0-2) this past November a mere 12-seconds into the first round. He hopes another win on April 23rd will put him in line for a shot at the NEF MMA Amateur Heavyweight Title currently held by Billy Leahy (3-1).

 

“I’m looking forward to fighting again for NEF on April 23rd, and I’m thankful for the opportunity that Matt Peterson and Nick Disalvo give me to fight for their amazing organization,” said Gulliver. “I’ll be fighting who I think is now the number one heavyweight fighter fighting for NEF, Dave Smith. This kid is a great fighter and good athlete. I’m looking forward to a great fight. I fight for two amazing schools and organizations, the Foundry and First Class MMA. This fight will be the first time I won’t be fighting in front of my father who is sick. It’s a lot for him to go to these events being so sick and on oxygen all the time. But my father stated he would make it to one last fight if I get a title shot. I think fighting Dave Smith and winning would put me in a good spot to fight for a title. I’m looking to get that fight in front of my father who pushes me to be the man I am today. Så, for three rounds on April 23rd, I’ll be pushing harder than I have in the past to get that opportunity. I’m always looking to impress the crowd. I think fighting someone like Smith will keep the crowd on their feet.”

 

Dave Smith is a member of Berserkers MMA based out of Rumford, Maine. Smith has an extensive wrestling background, having gone 147-17 while competing for Mountain Valley High School (MVHS) and winning two state titles in the process. He also wrestled for Plymouth State University (PSU) in New Hampshire. Like Gulliver, Smith finished his first two opponents in the opening round. He is looking to bounce back from a loss to Brendan Battles (2-0) ved “NEF 21” siste måned.

 

“I’m glad to be on another NEF card,” exclaimed Smith. “I am also very excited to be fighting Nick Gully. Nick has had a couple impressive wins and I think this will be a good fight! So get ready because it’s going to be a hell of a show.”

The fight card will feature three members of First Class MMA in action that night. Hannah Sparrell (0-0), Rafael Velado (0-0) og Nick Shea (1-0) fra Brunswick, Maine-based gym. Lewiston, Maine (Juni 14, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, holdt sin attende mixed-kampsport- (MMA) begivenhet, “NEF XVIII: MADE IN AMERICA,” på lørdag natt på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. A crowd of 2,000 var til stede for å se Crowsneck Boutin (1-0) vinne sin profesjonelle debut i løpet av Ryan “Junkyard Dog” Cowette (2-3) og Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (11-8) få et mål på hevn ved å slå John “Første klasse” Ray (2-8) i sin etterlengtede omkamp.

Lewiston, Maine (Juni 10, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, vil holde sin attende mixed-kampsport- (MMA) begivenhet, “NEF XVIII: MADE IN AMERICA,” denne lørdagen natt, Juni 13, 2015 på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. Nylig, headliners Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8), NEF MMA Professional Lett Champion, og John “Første klasse” Ray(2-7) sluttet NEF medeier og matchmaker Matt Peterson på en spesiell “Head-to-Head” edition of the NEF Podcast. Boyington and Raio discussed the upcoming rematch and the controversy surrounding their first meeting in February 2014, blant andre emner.

 

The interview quickly turned to the top of the first fight. Raio appeared to apply a rear-naked choke to Boyington on the mat late in the first round. Boyington began waving his hand in the air and referee Jimmy Bickford quickly stepped in to stop the fight. Much has been made of the infamous “hånd bølge.” While Bickford saw it as a sign of Boyington’s submission, Boyington har hevdet at han var bare signaliserte til sine fans i mengden at sperringen ikke gjorde noen skade.

The heated debate has raged between both sides for well over a year now. Lewiston, Maine (Mai 19, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, vil holde sin attende mixed-kampsport- (MMA) begivenhet, “NEF XVIII: MADE IN AMERICA,” på Lørdag, Juni 13, 2015 på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. Tidligere i dag, fremming annonserte full kampen kort for hendelsen.

 

In a highly-anticipated rematch, NEF MMA Professional Lett Champion Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8) takes on rivalJohn “Første klasse” Ray (2-7) in a non-title catchweight contest. Raio scored a victory over Boyington by rear-naked choke in their initial meeting in February 2014. That win, men, was marred in controversy as Boyington contends the referee mistook his wave to his fans in the crowd as a sign of submission. Regardless, Boyington and Raio will look to settle the score on Juni 13 i Lewiston.

 

NEF homegrown talent, og 2014 “Fighter of the Year,” Crowsneck Boutin (0-0) will debut in the professional ranks against “Junkyard Dog” Ryan Cowette (2-2) i en mellomvekt bout. Boutin has developed over the course of three years from a street brawler to a well-disciplined martial artist. In other professional bouts: Jesse “Viking” Erickson (4-4) looks to follow up his commanding performance last month at “NEF XVII” with another victory when he takes on Zenon Herrera(0-0); “Splint 2.0” Derek Shorey (2-1) will also try to make it two-in-a-row when he meets Canada’s Jeremy DiChiara (1-0) in a bantamweight battle; og Elias “Danger Mouse” Leland (2-1) hopes to rebound from a loss last month when he fights Tsjad “Maskingevær” Kelly (3-2) in what many are predicting to steal the show on the professional side of the card.

 

“NEF XVIII” will mark the first time NEF has crowned a set of amateur champions. The amateur card will feature five championship title bouts. Among those bouts will be a heavyweight title fight between the popular Billy “Bigfoot” Leahy (2-1) ogRyan Glover (1-0). Glover won a 2011 state championship wrestling for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine.

 

In another amateur title fight, Ricky Dexter (3-0) firkanter off mot Josh Harvey (3-1) for the lightweight championship. Dexter will represent Team Irish while Harvey will represent Irish’s Bangor-area rival Young’s MMA.

 

A women’s fight will also be featured on the amateur card withAlex Walker (0-1) vendt Kendra Streeter (0-0). Walker thrilled the Lewiston crowd of more than 2,000 ved “NEF XVII” last month with her “Fight of the Night” performance against Randi Knowles (1-0).

Bruce Boyington protests to referee Jimmy Bickford after his first fight with John Raio is stopped

Lewiston, Maine (April 21, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, vil holde sin attende mixed-kampsport- (MMA) begivenhet, “NEF XVIII: Laget i Amerika,” på Lørdag, Juni 13, 2015 på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. Tidligere i dag, the promotion announced that NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Champion Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8) vil møte John “Første klasse” Ray (2-7) on the card in a non-title bout at a weight of 150-pounds.

 

Boyington and Raio first met in February 2014 ved “NEF XII” i Lewiston. Boyington dominated the early moments with his striking. Coming towards the end of the first round, Raio would take Boyington’s back and apply a rear-naked choke on the mat. The future lightweight champion waved his hand in the air, a signal which referee Jimmy Bickford took to indicate Boyington’s submission. Bickford stopped the bout and awarded the fight to Raio, drawing an immediate protest from Boyington who stated he was waving to his fans in the crowd as a sign that he was not in danger.

 

In the days that followed, a heated debate would rage on social media over the controversial finish to the fight. Both fighters, boasting arguably the two largest fan bases in all of New England, were at the center of an epic war of words between their respective supporters. It seemed as though everyone had an opinion, and the entire state of Maine was split.

 

“Things were crazy that week after the bout,” recalled NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. “Our Facebook page was flooded with comments and private messages. Everybody and their mother was weighing in. It’s probably the most controversial moment in NEF history. Fans have been asking us for over a year when the rematch would happen. The time has finally come, Juni 13 i Lewiston!”

 

Boyington would go on to have a highly successful finish to 2014, winning not one but two regional MMA titles, including the NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Championship. He would also win his professional boxing debut at NEF’s inaugural boxing event in October 2014. Boyington has, faktisk, won four of his last five since the Raio loss.

 

“This fight is solely about redemption and giving the fans what they have been wanting to see,” stated Boyington when reached for comment. “Sometimes you have to step outside of what is best for you in this sport and entertain and that’s what I’m doing. I like a challenge—the biggest challenge—and that time will come, but for now, its about showing people what was about to happen last time and I can still show I’m three-levels above him by making the statement I’m about to embark on. I’m done with mishaps in that cage. I’m seizing every opportunity and will not let something slip again. Mark my words, its about to get ekte in my fight.”

Raio is coming off two losses in a row to his archrival, Derek Shorey (2-1), including one defeat earlier this month at “NEF XVII.” In need of a win, the founder of First Class MMA may now be more determined than ever to return to the NEF cage.

 

“I know this is a fight that I want, Bruce wants, and a lot of MMA fans have asked for,” stated Raio when reached for comment. “I look forward to fighting Bruce. Hopefully when the fight is over, there will be no controversy.”

Lewiston, Maine (April 12, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USAs nummer-én regional kamp forfremmelse, holdt sitt syttende arrangement for blandet kampsport, “NEF XVII,” Lørdag natt på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. En mengde på mer enn 2,000 var på plass for å ta i handlingen.
