Boston (February 4, 2019):

UMurphys Boxing is proud to announce their 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Clash will take place on Saturday, March 16th kwaphinda lokho at the House of Blues in Boston.

Headlining the stacked card will be Whitman, Massachusetts’ Mark DeLuca (22-1, 13 Kos). The current NABA Super Welterweight Champion, is ranked #10 in the world by the WBA and will defend his title against Connecticut’s Jimmy Williams (16-1-1, 5 Kos) in an all New England 10 round battle.

DeLuca is coming off the highest profile win of his career this past October when he fought on the undercard of UDemetriyu Andrade sika world title fight at TD Garden which was shown worldwide on I-DAZN. DeLuca won a unanimous decision in what was an immediate rematch of the only blemish on his record, a split decision loss to Walter Wright, considered by most in attendance to be a robbery. Now DeLuca finds himself, not only one of the most popular fighters in New England, but also in contention for a world title shot later this year.

Being in the Top 10 Manje, I know that I’m only a phone call away from a life changing opportunity.”, explains the former Marine turned title contender.

I’m always in the gym. I’m staying focused. I know I need a good performance against Williams to keep that opportunity alive.

Having already headlined a Murphys Boxing event on St. Day Patrick, DeLuca is well aware that it isn’t the average boxing card.

“St. Day Patrick. Boston. Dropkick Murphys. What more can you say? The atmosphere is electric.

In the umcimbi co-main, one of boxing’s favorite characters, Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan (29-3, 20 Kos) will make his return to Boston, where he has amassed a huge following, to take on Worcester, Massachusetts’ Khiary Gray (16-4, 12 Kos) in what promises to be an action packed 8 round battle.

The Cork, Ireland native who is promoted by Murphys Boxing in association with Golden Boy Promotions has moved down to the junior middleweight division where he is looking to make a splash in 2019 after finishing last year with a unanimous decision victory in his home country against the 40 fight veteran, Gabor Gorbics.

Boston is a home away from home for me.”, says the outspoken, handlebar mustached slugger who has fought in the New England area 10 izikhathi.

Murphys Boxing Saint Patrick’s Day events are not to be missed. The crowd is insane and I’m coming to give them what they wanna seea fight!”

The night will also feature a who’s who of New England’s hottest young contenders and prospects.

Murphys Boxing’s Charles Foster (17-0, 8 Kos) will put his NABA Light Heavyweight Championship title on the line in a 10 round bout against Chicago’s Mike Jimenez (22-1-2, 14 Kos).

The New Haven, Connecticut based Foster is a world ranked contender (#10 in the WBA) and is fresh off a national television appearance last year when he beat the previously undefeated, Alvin Varmall, Jr. on Isikhathi Sombukiso. He will face one of his toughest challenges yet against the dangerous, power punching, Jimenez whose only loss came to two-time world title challenger, Jesse Hart.

Revere, Massachusetts’ favorite son, Travis Mazac Gambardella (5-0-2, 2 Kos), who trains out of the popular, KnuckleHeadz Gym in Ventura, California, will return home to try and extend his undefeated record against fellow Boston area fighter, Maceo Crowder (2-2, 1 KO) phakathi ku 6 round middleweight contest.

South Boston’s Joe Farina (4-1, 3 Kos), who last fought against Gambardella, dropping a razor close majority decision on the undercard of Demetrius Andrade’s middleweight title fight at TD Garden, will look to get back in the winning column in a four round welterweight rematch against New Jersey’s Steve Moore (1-6, 1 KO) who lost a split decision to Farina last year.

In keeping with the holiday’s theme, there will be an all Irish grudge match when Lucan, Ireland John Joyce (7-0, 4 Kos) travels to America to take on Cork, Ireland Noel Murphy (12-1-1, 2 Kos), who is now based in New York City, in an 8 round welterweight clash that has Irish pride on the line.

The night will be kicked off by the highly anticipated professional debut of Mansfield, Massachusetts welterweight, James Perella. The decorated amateur fighter will turn proagainst Woburn, Massachusetts’ Bruno Dias (0-5) phakathi ku 4 round contest.

“The St. Patrick’s Day Clash is my favorite promotion of the year and one that our fighters and fans really look forward to.”, explains, Murphys Boxing founder and Dropkick Murphys frontman, Ken Casey.

The atmosphere that’s created when you put boxing on in a general admission, standing room only concert venue, let alone on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston, creates a unique and intense experience.

As for the incredibly busy and successful year the promotional company is coming off of, Casey, who will also play 4 consecutive shows with Dropkick Murphys the same week at the same venue, is even more excited about what the new year holds.

“2018 was a breakout year for Murphys Boxing but with contenders like Mark DeLuca and Charles Foster in the position for world title shots later this year and a slew of undefeated prospects on the verge of world rankings, not to mention multiple cards already planned, 2019 will take Murphys Boxing to a whole new level.

Murphys Boxing’s 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Clash takes place on Saturday, March 16th in Boston, Massachusetts at the House of Blues (15 Lansdowne Street). Doors open at 7pm. The night will also feature a specialin ringacoustic performance by The Dropkick Murphys. Amathikithi on ukudayiswa manje:

Yamaguchi Falcao to Spike O’Sullivan: Stop Running from me!

Yama vs Spike.jpeg

Plant City, FL (May 5, 2018) – Unbeaten WBC #13 rated middleweight Yamaguchi Falcao is sick and tired of being avoided.

A Bronze Medalist at the 2012 Olympics representing his native Brazil, Falcao was in Canada last December helping David Lemieux prepare for his fight against WBO 160 pound champion Billy Joe Saunders. Falcao was made aware that middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan would serve as the televised co-feature for Lemieux-Saunders December 16 e Canada.

Upon hearing the news, Falcao and his team immediately offered to fight the more experienced O’Sullivan. The Irishman’s team reportedly did not want to face a southpaw and elected to fight Antoine Douglas. Frustrated but not deterred, Falcao kept training and hoped to face a fighter like O’Sullivan in the near future.

On May 4, O’Sullivan was again slated as the co-feature for a televised card, this time on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

Hoping the second time would be a charm, Team Falcao made it clear they’d do whatever it took for the opportunity.

Ngeshwa, O’Sullivan elected to face Berlin Abreu, a blown up welterweight that hadn’t fought in 18 izinyanga.

To make matters worse, all but once of Abreu’s victories came in the Dominican Republic against opponents with a combined 15-266 irekhodi. O’Sullivan stopped his overmatched foe in three rounds. Multiple media outlets covering the fight reported it as a disappointing mismatch while noting O’Sullivan needs to face better opposition.

With a professional record of 28-2, O’Sullivan’s rated 5th by the WBO, 6th by the WBA and 11thby the WBC.

Falcao, 15-0 (7 KO sika), believes he’s the superior boxer but hasn’t had the same chances as O’Sullivan and he’s literally willing to fight for the opportunity.

“Spike’s had a lot of favorable opportunities but when he has the chance to take on a tough challenge, he avoids it,” Falcao said from his training camp in Florida. “I twice tried to face him with no questions asked. Both times he refused to face me. I am ranked in the top 15 and you consider yourself a top fighter – why not face me? I’m ready to show the world that I’m an elite middleweight by challenging other top rated 160 pound fighters. My question to you Spike is why did you twice avoid the challenge for easier opponents? I want you to stop running from me – man up and fight me!"

Jody Caliguire, advisor for Team Falcao, has felt the same frustrations as his fighter and none of it has to do with their unwillingness.

“We’re ready for anybody on any platform. Yama has never turned down an opportunity and we’re always putting our name out there. Aside from Spike, we offered to face Demetrius Andrade, Gennady Golovkin, Jason Quigley and Danny Jacobs among others. None of those fights happened. We don’t need to have our record built up – we’re ready to face the best right now!"

Bona lapha lokho abahlanganyeli ayezokusho Wednesday:
Danny O'Connor
“Lokhu konke ngami ukulwa inqubo. Gabriel Bracero beat me but I really beat myself. Just like training for this fight, we had a baby son. Two weeks before our first fight, my first son was born and I didn’t know how to separate sport from such life-changing events. Bekade ngi 14-0 futhi ukulwa Showtime. We just had a baby boy two weeks before this fight. I want to prove to myself that I can beat this process. Bracero is my redemption!
“Lokhu kombango kimi vs. me. The time was right for this fight. I was offered this fight five times during the past few years but the time wasn’t right.
I was a scared little kid with no experience in our first fight. I couldn’t handle the pressure, I didn’t even know it was there. Manje, I’m a mature man who is a husband and father. I’m a totally different person.
This fight could be in my living room. I’m at peace in the ring doing what I love to do. It’s great being back in the ring in Lowell, lapho mina wawina New England Golden Gloves isihloko futhi ngiyakujabulela ukulwa TV kazwelonke, kodwa umcimbi phakathi emagumbini amane futhi yilokho okubaluleke ngempela.”

“Ngijabulile. I’ve trained for this fight like I’ve never fought Danny before. I beat him but that was four years ago. I can’t overlook him. He has obviously made improvements and I did also to get where we are today.
“Ngikhathazekile abanolwazi kakhudlwana. I moved to train in Orlando and get away from distractions. I hit a few bumps and got incarcerated. Tommy Gallagher (trainer) saved my lie. He was there when I went to prison and there when I got out. I added a new trainer to our corner, Alexander Lopes, kodwa Tommy futhi ubaba, Kıro, are still there. Tommy gives the orders and he likes what Lopez has done with me.
Tommy Gallagher is my guardian angel. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. He had this vision before I did.
Danny has become a better fighter. Angikwazi lutho kude kuye, kodwa Ngibheke phambili ngokubeka on a ukusebenza umbukwane Saturday ebusuku.”
JONATHAN Guzman
“Ngiya ukwenza kube 20-for-20, yebo! I’m powerful because I make strong moves. My left hook is my best punch. Ngiyasibona amandla ngokusebenzisa umzimba wami wonke lapho ngifika omunye ngakwesokunene.
“Angazi ukhathazeke esitheni sami noma lokho akwenza esikhathini esidlule.

My first four fights were here in the US. Boston is like my second home. The people are so nice. Boston is a real fight city. I can’t wait for these people to see me in the ring.

In the other scheduled televised fight, undefeated Dominican super bantamweight KO artistJonathan “Salomon King” Guzman (19-0, 19 Kos), ukulwa out of Lawrence eseduze (MA), takes on Connecticut’s upset-minded Danny Aquino (17-2, 10 Kos) 10-round co-feature.
Boston vs. New York is a classic matchup that has dominated sports headlines in the northeast for years as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox waged countless wars while the New England Patriots faced the New York Giants in two Super Bowls and continued their longtime rivalry with the New York Jets. The rich tradition of this rivalry has also spilled into the ring as many top fighters from each region have faced-off over the years.
The first significant Boston vs. NYC fight goes back to 1927 at Yankee Stadium, nini Jack Dempsey wayeka Jack “The Boston GobSharkey in the seventh round of their heavyweight title eliminator to challenge world champion Gene Tunney. Controversy surrounded this fight as Sharkey, a sailor in the U.S. Navy, fought his boxing idol, Dempsey, who along with Babe Ruth ruled Manhattan during America’s Golden Age of Sports in the 1920s. Sharkey out-boxed Dempsey for six rounds until, complaining to the referee about Dempsey’s low punches, he was knocked out cold with a picture-perfect left hook.
Another legendary heavyweight champion from the Boston area, Rocky Marciano, wouldn’t have retired with his famous 49-0 record if one round or another were scored differently against Bronx favorite Roland LaStarza in 1950. Marciano took a questionable 10-round decision from LaStarza at Madison Square Garden. Three years later at the Polo Grounds, Marciano successfully defended his world title, knocking out LaStarza in the 11thround of their 1953 Fight of the Year.
A pair of Hall of Fame heavyweights from Brooklyn, Floyd Patterson futhi “Iron” Mike Tyson, ngokulandelana, knocked out Boston’s Tom McNeeley nendodana yakhe, Peter McNeeley. McNeeley dropped Patterson once but he hit the deck 11 times before finally succumbing in the fourth round of their 1961 title fight in Toronto. His son, Peter, lost by first-round disqualification to Tyson who was fighting for the first since being released from prison.
A fireman from Boston with brittle hands, Paul Pender, twice defeated arguably the consensus Greatest of All-time, Harlem’s “Sugar” Ray Robinson, not once but twice by 15-round split decisions in 1960 world middleweight title fights at the Boston Garden.
“Marvelous” Marvin Hagler, a transplanted New Jersey fighter who lived in Marciano’s hometown of Brockton, Mass., felt ripped off when he was given a draw in his first world title fight against Brooklyn’s defending champion Vito Antuofermo in Las Vegas. Two years later in 1981, Hagler captured the coveted crown at the Boston Garden as Antuofermo retired after four rounds.
Even Lowell’s “Irish” NgoMicky Ward had a New York City rival in Brooklyn’s Zab uJuda, who he dropped a hard-fought 12-round decision to in 1998. For many years Judah said Ward was the toughest opponent he ever fought.
Muva, Irish Olympian Kevin McBride, fighting out of the Dorchester section of Boston, ended Tyson’s career in 2005 with a sixth-round TKO victory that left the boxing world in shock, and Boston heavyweight John Ruizthe only Latino heavyweight champion of the worldwon a 2008 fight in Mexico against Harlem’s Jameel McCline by 12-round decision in a world title eliminator.
On October 10, O'Connor, Bracero, Kielczweski and Vazquez will have their opportunity to not only represent their hometowns, but to etch themselves into the annals of the rivalry.
