Here is what the 22-year-old native of Flint, Mich., zu sagen hatte am Dienstag:

Claressa SHIELDS

“I am calm – focused – but still hungry like a challenger with the added confidence of being a world champion. I took some time off after my last win but I look forward to getting busy again in 2018.

“This training camp I did eight weeks instead of six. A lot of camp has been extremely hard. But I’m so focused and determined on 2018 and starting great and staying busy. I expect my opponent to apply pressure, und einige schmutzige Taktik zu verwenden. Sie hat mehr Erfahrung, aber nicht so viel, wenn Sie ihre Amateur-Erfahrung sprechen

“There is no doubt I will start 2018 with a win. Then I just take it one fight at a time. Right now my focus is Nelson.

“I’m excited to be on SHOWTIME as the first fight of the year, and just to be back inside the ring. I feel I have been the face of women’s boxing for some time now. I don’t let it feel like pressure – I just work really hard in the gym.

"Im 2018 I expect great fights against the best contenders. I expect to make history again on SHOWTIME and also looking forward to dropping to 160 to fight against [Christina] Hammer mid-2018. January 12th will be the beginning of great things to come

“Training through the holidays is fine. The difference between the amateurs and now is that I was always in other countries competing. Now I get to be home with my family getting ready and I feel good.

“The matchup to me will play out with the first few rounds of me using my jab. Then I’ll add the combinations as the fight goes on. I see it being competitive though. I’m going to earn the win. I believe I can KO her by the sixth, siebte Runde.“

NEW YORK (Dezember. 12, 2017) – Uzbekistan power-puncher Shohjahon Ergashev will face the toughest test of his career in fellow undefeated and top-10 ranked Sonny Fredrickson in the telecast opener of ShoBox: Die neue Generation auf Freitag, Jan. 12 live auf Showtime (10 p.m. UND/PT) von Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y..

In the co-feature of the tripleheader headlined by the Claressa Shields-Tori Nelson Women’s 10-round Super Middleweight World Championship, Jesse Hernandez (10-1, 7 KOs) will take on former National Golden Gloves Gold Medalist Ernesto Garza (9-2, 5 KOs; 1-3 WSB) in einem 10-Runden-Super Bantam Kampf zwischen zwei Action-Kämpfer.

Ergashev (11-0, 11 KOs), who has recorded a knockout in each of his first 11 Profi-Kämpfe, and Fredrickson (18-0, 12 KOs) von Toledo, Ohio, will contest an eight-round super lightweight bout.

“This card is a great way to set the tone for competitive fights in the 2018,” said promoter Dmitriy Salita. “These are two pick’em fights with the winners having a legitimate shot at world title contention in the near future. Egrashev has the power, skills and ambition to be an exciting addition to the already packed junior welterweight division, but he’s facing his toughest test in Sonny Fredrickson. Jessy Hernandez is coming off impressive wins over two undefeated fighters and he’s returning against a very durable challenger with solid pro experience and strong amateur boxing pedigree. I am excited and grateful to SHOWTIME that we were able to put together these fantastic fights as the first show of the year.”

“I know Sonny is a world-ranked, highly touted fighter,” Ergashev said. “I look forward to continuing my knockout streak and getting my 12th KO auf Januar 12. I am excited to fight on SHOWTIME and show the world what I bring to the ring.”

The 23-year-old Fredrickson is currently ranked No. 9 von der World Boxing Association. An active amateur who had 130 amateur bouts with more than 120 Siegen, Fredrickson traveled to Medellin, Kolumbien, in his last fight to face unbeaten Placido Ramirez as part of the annual WBA Convention and looked impressive in a third-round knockout.

“If you look at Ergashev’s past opponents, he hasn’t fought against anyone that talented, so I’m confident that I’ll stop him in his tracks,” Fredrickson said. “I’m sure he’ll try to come out strong in the beginning of the fight, but I plan to break him down.

“Plenty of boxing stars got their first break on SHOWTIME, so fighting on this network is huge for me. I’m ready to capitalize on this opportunity and showcase my skills on one of the biggest platforms in boxing. My goal is to put on a great performance at Turning Stone and get the victory.”

Hernandez is coming off two consecutive wins over previously undefeated, top-15 ranked fighters – a unanimous decision over Glenn Dezurn on November. 11, and fifth-round TKO of Vladimir Tikhonov in his ShoBox Debüt auf August. 4. The 27-year-old Hernandez, the youngest of 15 Kinder, war 67-6 as an amateur and took five years off from boxing between 2009 und 2014 to work construction jobs in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas.

“This is going to be a tough fight, but I am putting in the work and feel like I will definitely come out on top,“Sagte Hernandez, who has six brothers that have boxed professionally. “It will be action-packed and a must-watch fight. I feel like my aggressive style is meant for TV. I will fight whoever is put in front of me to prove my worth. Dominance in the 122-pound weight division is my ultimate goal.”

Garza, of Saginaw, Mich., war das 2008 National Golden Gloves Gold Medalist and a 2009 U.S.. National Championships Bronze Medalist. The 29-year-old is fighting on ShoBox for the second time having suffered a third-round knockout against Jon Fernandez on Februar. 10, in Miami, Oklahoma. Garza has won his last two fights since the defeat, both coming in Michigan.

“I’ve been training hard for this fight, and I can’t wait to step into the ring to show the world my talent,” Garza said. “I know I’m going to come out on top and bring back this win for my hometown. I’m extremely blessed and grateful for this opportunity. I can’t let it slip away.”

The 25-year-old Kahn-Clary, who won the North American Boxing Association (Auch Noch) title in his last fight, used a stiff jab and solid defense to frustrate his opponent early in the fight, setting the pace to take a decisive scoring advantage.
Toka-Kahn came out firing in the fourth round, applying more pressure to take full command, and he never let up. Rapid fire punches by Toka-Kahn, thrown from all angles, repeatedly landed on his overmatched opponent. By the end of round seven it was clear that the end was near for Moralde and it came suddenly when Moralde couldn’t continue anymore.
This was great heute Abend,” Holyfield commented about promoting his first show in Providence. “We want Toka to be our first world champion and this performance should put him in good position. It was very important to build his fanbase at home in Providence and we look forward to promoting here in the near future.
I’m not a one-punch fighter,” WBA No. 14-rated Toka explained. “I kept walking him down and hit him with some good body shots. I’m not going to call anybody out by name but I’m ready to fight anybody in my weight class.

Turchi patiently applied constant pressure, methodically breaking down the game Banks and hurting his opponent with a flurry of punches in the third round. The end came when Banks failed to answer the bell for round five.
“Ich bin so glücklich,” Turchi remarked after the fight. “This was so emotional for me because it was the first time I fought in front of Evander. I’m happy with my performance but I think I could have done better”.
I felt the heat from the Italian-American fans and I thank them for helping me sustain. I also want to thank The Real Deal Boxing. My next fight will be Februar 2 at home in Florence, for the European Union title.
In the CBSSN televised opener, red-hot featherweight prospect made Irvin Gonzalez(8-0, 7 KOs) made the most of his national TV debut, switching freely from orthodox stance to southpaw and back throughout the fight, en route to a sensational third-round knockout of Colombian knockout artist Marlon olea (13-2, 12 KOs). The lightning-quick Gonzalez, von Worcester, MA, consistently beat his opponent to the punch, and finished off Olea with a straight right to the body to keep his perfect pro record intact. Olea was fighting in the U.S. erstmals.
Heute Abend, I showed that I’m a real fighter,” Gonzalez said after the fight. “I believe I’m a contender in my weight class. I’m going back to the drawing board with my coaches and 2018 is going to be my year.
Lokaler Favorit Nick DeLomba (12-2, 2 KOs), representing nearby Cranston, RI, pleased his supportive crowd, registering a hard-fought victory by way of an eight-round unanimous decision versus Bronx junior welterweight Louis Cruz (12-4, 6 KOs) für die vakant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) junior welterweight title. The gifted southpaw, a prized prospect for fans to keep an eye on, unloaded ten unanswered punches until referee Danny Schiavone halted the action at 1:03 der ersten Runde.

WORKOUT QUOTES
Evander Holyfield, Hall of Fame, Real Deal Boxen:There’s a lot of pressure fighting in a big fight for the first time at home. I remember my homecoming in Atlanta, zurück in 1985, and there were a lot of distractions. Everybody who knew my name showed up, most looking for free tickets. I was skeptical about ever fighting there again. Everybody’s different, though.
Toka may be our first world champion. He’s a very disciplined person who has been through a lot. I come from the ghetto but, when I heard his story, Beeindruckend, I couldn’t believe his (life) was harder than mine.
Toka-Kahn-Clary: (Toka became a father for the first time on Nov. 11, when his wife, Devanni, delivered a 7-pound girl, Adaline) “Jetzt, Ich kämpfe für meine Familie, not just Toka anymore.
“Ich fühle mich gut. I had to have patience and faith in my craft to get here. If you keep working hard, doors will open, and when they do you have to jump right through. I want to win impressively, dominate the fight
I see a lot of top fighters in my weight class. I’m not going to name any until after this fight, but I have the talent to beat them.
I want to be recognized after I stop fighting, like Evander, who everybody knows, likes and respects.
Peter Manfredo, Sr., Der Kahn-Clary Cheftrainer: “Toka is a top prospect who is becoming a contender. A lot of fighters don’t even get to this point. This fight is a major opportunity to get him closer to where he wants to be, not just a world champion, but for his name to be remembered in boxing. He wants to be a legend. He has to remain focused because this is the first time he’ll have a big crowd behind him.
Fabio Turchi (Italian Amateur Champion) “Everybody here has been great, very hospitable. It’s such a great honor for me to fight in America with its great boxing tradition. I want to have a great fight to be embraced by Americans, especially here in Rhode Island. It’s beautiful having so many Italians, that gives me and added push to win.
Nick DeLomba: “This opportunity means the world to me because I’ll be showcasing my talents in front of my hometown fans. An impressive win will, hoffnungsvoll, get me to the next level, in TV fights against bigger names.

Ivan Baranchyk – Is he the next Arturo Gatti?

Miami, OK (Februar 14, 2017) – Am Freitag, Februar 10, boxing fans were treated to a fight of the year candidate between junior welterweights Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk of Brooklyn, NY and Arizona’s Abel Ramos. The bout took place at the Buffalo Run Casino in the main event of ShoBox: Die neue Generation. It was a significant fight for both combatants, with Baranchyk looking to move further up the ladder while Ramos hoped to become a player at 140 pounds by taking out his highly regarded foe.

When the matchup was announced, Baranchyk and Ramos were expected to put on an entertaining fight. What ultimately transpired however far exceeded expectations.

For ten rounds, Baranchyk and Ramos had the capacity crowd on their feet cheering on the incredible action. Both men hit the canvas and were badly hurt at different points of the fight, trading punches at a frenetic pace. They bled, brawled and left everything in the ring in a fight that was among the greatest in ShoBox’s 17 year history.

Scores waren 99-91, 97-92 und 97-93 for Baranchyk, wer ist 14-0 mit 10 Knockouts. Ramos, whose stock went up tremendously in defeat, ist 17-2-2 (12 KO).

The CompuBox stats were similar to the first showdown between Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward. Baranchyk and Ramos combined to land 664 total punches and 482 power shots. Gatti-Ward I saw a total of 618 connects with 521 being power punches.

“I believe this has to be the best fight in ShoBox history,” exclaimed Baranchyk’s promoter Tony Holden, who promotes him along with DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc. “Ivan is a natural crowd pleaser. He has the biggest heart in boxing and incredible conditioning. Like we saw many times from the late, great Arturo Gatti, Ivan was hurt, bloodied and took a lot of punches but his will powered him to victory. I believe he could become the next Arturo Gatti but there’s still work to do.

Lou DiBella, who promoted the aforementioned Ward, believes Baranchyk is boxing’s newest action star.

“We got stats from CompuBox and they were almost identical to Gatti-Ward 1 and Corrales-Castillo 1, two of the greatest fights in boxing history. Baranchyk and Ramos put on a fight for the ages and I think the comparison to Gatti-Ward is a good one. Ivan’s offensive mindedness and willingness to take and give punishment is reminiscent of Arturo Gatti. He’s already shown he can get a crowd behind him and that was proven by how quickly the fans in Miami, OK adopted him as if he were one of their own. I really think he can become the Belarusian Gatti.”

FINAL ZITATE:

IVAN “THE BEAST” BARANCHYK:

“I’m working with a new trainer (Eduard Kravtsov) at Wild Card Gym. We had some mistakes with our old team and it was time for me to move on. It was my decision to move on.

“We have better sparring now, a new coach, new strategy. Wild Card is a different experience. We have tough sparring, tough training. It was a good change.

“I’m still the same aggressive fighter; I come forward and try to stop you. We’re just working on a few new things, more combos, bessere Verteidigung.

“Ramos is my toughest opponent, but we’re ready for everything he brings. We’re ready to fight on the inside, on the outside.

“The game plan is to get the victory. That’s the most important

“The first couple rounds are the most dangerous. We know he’s tough and experienced. We need to make it my fight, style-wise.

“My last two fights went the distance, but it was good to know I can go 10 Runde. It was good to get that experience.

“People connect with me here (in Miami, Okla.). I can’t explain it, it just works.”

ABEL RAMOS:

“Ivan is a different fighter. We know what we’re getting in there with and we’re going to feel out his power. His last two fights went the distance so he must not hit that hard. We’re going to wear him out.

“Ivan is aggressive, and he can be explosive at times, but he makes mistakes. He fights a little wild.

“I think I can start to worry him. We’re going to test his power and decide how I need to fight. He hasn’t fought anyone at my level yet.

“I have to win this fight. This is my third time on SHOWTIME and I have to win. Ich habe eine Erklärung abgeben.

“I’ve been working on pushing the pace. You’ll see some of that morgen Nacht.

“We sparred with Sergey Lipenets, helping him get ready for his fight in December. That was a good experience for us.

“I’ve learned lot since my loss to Regis (Prograis – ShoBox, 2015). I’m training harder, working in the gym, taking this more seriously.

“I’m here to show that I’m back and ready for the top guys. I’ve had three wins by knockout since the loss. I’m a different fighter.”

LENIN CASTILLO:

“We know Williams is an aggressive fighter that comes forward. I’ve seen some tape. I’m expecting him to come at me. But it’s nothing I’ve never seen before.

“I need to bring the pressure so the judges won’t have any doubt. I need to fight my fight.

“I think I’ve fought the better opponents. I think my experience is going to be the difference.

“The quality of fighters here (in the U.S.) is better than back home (Dominikanische Republik). This is where I want to fight now.”

JOSEPH “MACK” WILLIAMS:

"Er (Schloss) has a few more fights, but mostly in the Dominican Republic, so we don’t know how good he actually is.

“He’s never fought anyone like me. He’s going to come with confidence because he’s 15-0 mit 10 KOs. He’s confident because he’s Olympian. But he’s never faced anyone like me.

“He may be an Olympian, but look who I fought in the amateurs. Look at the men that I beat. And those guys are mostly cruiserweights now. I’m much stronger at light heavyweight.

“This is the right time and right place for us. This is a huge opportunity.

“I don’t think he’s the best fighter I’ve faced. If I hit him clean I don’t think it will go that far. I’m going to go in there with an open mind and exploit his weakness.

“I’ve gradually moved down in weight. I’m faster at light heavyweight. When I was heavy I took my time. I’m sharper, Schneller. I’m just a totally different person.

“I always compare myself to James Toney. I can hit hard, Ich kann einen Schlag nehmen, and I’m slick. What you see will depend on my opponent. If I feel he’s weak, I’ll jump early. I can brawl, Ich kann boxen. I’m explosive.”

JON FERNANDEZ:

"Ich kämpfte mit (Carl) Frampton in Las Vegas for the (Löwe) Santa Cruz fight. It was a great experience sparring with him three times a week. It gave me more confidence knowing I could handle him.

“Garza is basically the same height as Frampton, so that will be an advantage.

“I know he’s going to come at me, and we’re ready for that. I need to keep my rhythm and make it an entertaining fight. I believe my power and speed will be the difference. I throw a lot of punches.

„Dieser Kampf bedeutet mir sehr viel. We’re both good fighters and the TV exposure means a lot. It’s a good opportunity and I need to take advantage of it.”

ERNESTO GARZA:

“We’re going to give him something he’s never seen before. We’re going to bring the action.

“I’ve always been an aggressive fighter. I like to bring the pressure.

“I’ve faced guys as tall as him before, I fought a guy that was 6-foot-2. I know I need to get inside with a guy like this.

“I’ve seen a lot of his fights, and I don’t think he’s a fast puncher. He always fights the same style, and his opponents are always there for the taking. I’m not going to be there for him to hit like that.

“This is my chance. This is a big opportunity for me.”

The event is promoted by DiBella Entertainment und Tony Holden Productions in Assoziation mit Fight Promotions. Fernandez vs. Garza is promoted in association with MaravillaBox Promotions und Jaafar Promotions.
