Robbery at the Cannery! Scoring Woes Continue in Las Vegas as Eduardo Ramirez Cheated by Bad Judging

Barthelemy-Ramirez Ends in Dubious Draw
A loud chorus of boos rang out as another controversial Las Vegas decision was rendered in kveldens Leduan Barthelemy vs. Eduardo Ramirez featherweight battle at the Cannery Hotel & Casino i Las Vegas.
Ramirez, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, seemed to have done more than enough to deserve the nod over a listless Barthelemy in the 10-round featherweight main event of a Premier Boxing Champions “Cuba vs. Mexico” TOE-TO-TOE Tirsdag begivenhet, televised nationally on FS1 & BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes.
Etter 10 rounds of pounding and chasing the exhausted Cuban around the ring, often landing multi-punch combinations to the head and body, Ramirez and corner rightfully celebrated their well-deserved upset victory… But in Las Vegas boxing, nothing is certain, especially scoring.
While Judge Glen Trowbridge was able to pick the right winner at least (but by too tight a margin) ved 96-94, the other two inexplicably scored the lopsided beating (Tim Cheatham) 95-95 and an unbelievable 97-93 Barthelemy from Patricia Morse Jarman.
This controversial scoring is the second time Las Vegas judges have made major blunders on national television in a short time, as it comes less than two weeks after the Canelo vs. GGG scoring debacle.
It is also not the first time Morse Jarman has been involved in controversial and highly questionable scoring.
Her decades of head-scratching scores include having Fernando Vargas ahead of Oscar De La Hoya at the time of De La Hoya’s 11th round stoppage victory, as well as having Beibut Shumenov winning 117-111 in a fight against Gabriel Campillo that Campillo clearly dominated and was robbed. Also among her long list of missteps, Morse Jarman had Marco Antonio Barrera beating Nasim Hamed by a mere three points in a fight regarded by all (except Morse Jarman) as a one-sided beating.
With the “tegne” Barthelemy escapes to 13-0-1, 7 KOs. Ramirez undeservedly sinks to 20-0-3, 7 KOs.

LAS VEGAS (September 26, 2017) – Ubeseiret featherweights Leduan Barthelemy (13-0-1, 7 KOs) og Eduardo Ramirez (20-0-3, 7 KOs) fought to an exciting split draw in their 10-round brawl that headlined Premier Boxing Champions TOE til tå TIRS på FS1 og Boksing Championspå FOX Deportes Tirsdag night from the Cannery Hotel & Casino i Las Vegas.
The back-and-forth battle saw Barthelemy attempt to take advantage of his length early while Ramirez fought hard to do damage on the inside. By round four, Ramirez had begun to break through Barthelemy’s defense and by the sixth round he connected with Barthelemy repeatedly with no response to score a huge round in his favor.
“I wanted to pressure him all the way through and take away his reach advantage,” said Ramirez. “I felt good the whole fight and he never hurt me at any point. I believed in my skills and I performed well.”
“It was a very tough, physical fight for both of us,” Said Barthelemy. “I didn’t feel 100 percent but I was able to work through it and I never felt hurt during the fight. He landed on me but I was able to keep my composure.”
Barthelemy was able to recover and began to stifle Ramirez’s aggressiveness by pivoting effectively and landing punches from different angles. By the final round, the two fighters resorted to brawling on the inside, with both men landing big punches all the way to the final bell.
In the end the judges’ scores reflected the close nature of the bout as one judge scored the fight 97-93 for Barthelemy while another judge scored the bout 96-94 for Ramirez. The fight was declared a split draw after the final score was announced as 95-95.
“Jeg ville definitivt kjempe ham igjen,” Said Barthelemy. “I’ll be ready for another great battle and I’ll get the clear victory this time.”
“I thought that I won the fight, it was a close fight but I believe that I did what I had to do to win,” said Ramirez. “I would fight him again and beat him even worse.”
Additional action saw once-beaten Alejandro Salinas (9-1, 8 KOs) was able to earn a unanimous decision over rugged brawler Duarn Vue (12-1, 4 KOs) in their eight-round super featherweight contest.
The fight was defined by close quarters exchanges that began right after the opening bell as Vue charged Salinas and tried to navigate the distance and brawl with Salinas. The tide quickly turned for Salinas who established his right hand and connected several times cleanly with Vue’s head.
Vue did not stop attacking and forced Salinas to vary his attack and add in uppercuts and left hooks with his effective right hand. While Vue was able to tag Salinas as he tired into the later rounds, it was not enough to come back in the minds of the judges as all three scored the bout for Salinas by scores of 80-72, 79-73 og 77-75.
The opening bout saw Bryan Figueroa (13-0, 5 KOs) remain unbeaten and win a close decision over Ivan Jimenez (7-1-1, 4 KOs) in their six round lightweight fight.
Figueroa took his time early trying to utilize his height advantage to strike Jimenez from a distance and in round three he connected on a hard left hand that backed up and staggered his opponent. Jimenez was able to stay on his feet, and had success at times getting on the inside and hitting Figueroa with hooks, but was not able to land consistently enough.
The fiery exchanges continued through the sixth and final round with Figueroa eventually earning the decision on all three judges’ scorecards by the score of 58-56.

Salinas, who has been boxing since age nine and had over 100 amatør kamper, says his incredible height comes from his father/trainer Freddy Fundora’s Cuban side of the family. His mother is of Mexican descent.

“I see that he’s a pressure fighter and has good body work. He only has one speed and doesn’t have any other gears. “I’m not overlooking Benavidez. He’s a tough fighter and we know it. Min trener [Eddie Mustafa Muhammad] has been working with me on a game plan. I’m going to be ready for whatever he has to bring.

 

“It was a great camp and we had the best sparring partners, including Badou [Jekk] and Jose Uzcategui.

She beat my butt all the way through high school. Guys would see me with black eyes and know that she would beat the crap out of me. It was kind of embarrassing when you get beat up by your sister.

 

“This is a big opportunity for me. I lost two split decisions [to Sergio Mora and Fernando Guerrero] and both could have gone either way. I had the only knockdowns in both fights, but I was on the ‘B’ side so you know how it’s going to go.

 

“El Paso is trying to become a fight town and we have a lot of good trainers, but we still have a ways to go.

 

“I injured my shoulder a few years ago and couldn’t use my right shoulder so I started fighting more southpaw. I’ve done a lot of mixed martial arts growing up, and it hasn’t been hard switching from that to boxing.

 

“J’Leon Love has one of the best teams in boxing in Mayweather Promotions. I have to throw punches in bunches.”

 

CALEB ANLEGG

“I’m just going to go in there calm and relaxed as I always do and make adjustments as I need to. I could tell you everything I plan to do, or what could happen, but this this is boxing and everyone knows how it works. It depends on what’s going on inside the ring, and I will make adjustments.

 

“My opponent does different things and is very durable and comes to fight. We know he moves well and can do different things and be the aggressor. He has different dimensions. We’re not overlooking him.

“I’ve had about a week notice for this fight. Of course I’m going to say yes. I’m not going to run from any fighter or opportunity. Caleb is a tremendous prospect and they are talking about him fighting for a world title soon. So much opportunity can come from this.

 

"[Caleb] doesn’t have many weaknesses. He has good hand speed and pretty good power and very good defense. He’s the total package and I have my work cut out for me. But I’m very confident in myself and I hope I can take him into deep waters.

 

“Hopefully I will fight the best fight I can and pull off the upset.”

LAS VEGAS (September 7, 2017) – The sport of boxing was the center of attention in August with a record-setting mega event that captured the imagination of the public. A trio of shows presented by Premier Boxing Champions in September will give fans more opportunities to see young boxers on the rise in the sport.
“Premier Boxing Champions will present three shows that will deliver the kind of excitement that fans have come to appreciate. All three shows involve boxers who have a bright future in the sport and are morgendagens stjerner,” said Tim Smith, VP of Communications for Haymon Boxing.
David Benavidez (18-0, 17 KOs) vil ta på Ronald Gavril(18-1, 14 KOs) for the vacant super middleweight world title in a bout that will have historical implications when the two boxers square off in a 12-round bout that headlines a SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION® på Fredag, September 8 ved 10 pm. OG/PT. The 20-year-old Benavidez has the chance to become the youngest super middleweight champion in history and the youngest reigning boxing world champion in the sport today. Gavril is looking to win the title that was once held by his Mayweather Promotions teammate, Badou Jack, who vacated the title to move up to 175 pounds where he claimed a light heavyweight world title with a dominant victory over Nathan Cleverly on Aug. 26.
The undercard will feature two more exciting matches in the super middleweight division. Once-beaten contender J'Leon Kjærlighet (23-1, 13 KOs) will battle Texas-native Abraham Han(26-3, 16 KOs) in a 10-round bout and unbeaten prospectCaleb Plant (15-0, 10 KOs) tar på Andrew Hernandez (19-6-1, 9 KOs) i 10 rounds of action.

The youngest brother of two-division world champion Rances and Olympic gold medalist Yan, Barthelemy picked up four victories in 2016 and started his 2017 campaign with a victory over Jesus Aguinaga and a stoppage of Reynaldo Blanco. The 28-year-old fights out of Las Vegas by way of Cuba and continues to rise under the tutelage of Ismael Salas.
Med 22 pro fights under his belt at just 24-years-old, Ramirez will look to make a mark when he makes his U.S. debut on September 26. Fighting ut av Sinaloa, Mexico, Ramirez most recently defeated Guillero Soloppi in May and has taken down then unbeaten rivals Edivaldo Ortega, Roman Morales and Miguel Martinez during his pro career that dates back to 2010.
Fighting out of Youngstown, Ohio, Salinas has recorded stoppage victories in all eight of his triumphs as a professional. The 22-year-old is unblemished outside of one narrow split decision defeat in his fourth pro fight. En pro siden 2014, Salinas will fight in Las Vegas as a pro for the first time when he enters the ring on September 26.
Originally from Thailand, Vue grew up in Madison, Wisconsin while largely fighting out of the state since turning pro in June 2014. The 31-year-old also owns a 12-round decision victory over Jorge Luis Munguia last May.
