ANNULEREN, Mexico (April 20, 2017) – The second installment of the 2017 “Cancun Boksen” serie, presented by Pepe Gomez Boxing in association with Neon Sports & Vermaak, zal de lucht vanavond (Donderdag nacht, April 20) in Noord-Amerika, vanaf 10 p.m. EN / 7 p.m. PT, op CBS Sports Network.
The event took place this past April 8th at Grand Oasis Cancun the Hotel Complex, Het ENIGE ultieme all-inclusive entertainmentresort van Cancun, die alle serie-evenementen organiseert.
Drievoudig wereldkampioen Cristian “Diamente” Mijares (55-8-2, 26 KO) and former super flyweight titlist Tomas “Gusano” Rojas (48-14-1, 32 KO) squared off in the 10-round main event in a showdown between a pair of veteran Mexican featherweights.
Undefeated Mexican bantamweight prospect Aaron “Geest” Alameda (18-0, 10 KO) stepped up in class to fight battle-tested Edgar “Vermogen” Jimenevan (22-12-2, 16 KO), van Mexico, in the eight-round co-feature.

Drievoudig wereldkampioen Cristian “Diamente” Mijares (55-8-2, 26 KO) and former super flyweight titlist Tomas “Gusano” Rojas (48-14-1, 32 KO) squared off in the 10-round main event in a showdown between a pair of veteran Mexican featherweights.
Mijares vs. Rojas was a rematch of their March 12, 2004 fight in Mexico, in which Mijares won a 12-round unanimous decision for the Mexico super flyweight championship. They had a combined pro record of 103-22-3 (58 KO), along with four world titles in two divisions, upon entering the ring last Saturday evening.
De regerende World Boxing Council (WBC) vedergewicht kampioen, Mijares heeft nr. 4 en gepositioneerd voor een nieuwe wereldtitel schot met een overwinning op Rojas. Mijares is een drievoudig wereldkampioen super vlieggewicht 11-5 in de wereld titel gevechten.
De 35-jarige bokser heeft tijdens zijn meer dan tien jaar professionele carrière een Who’s Who van de lagere divisieboksers verslagen, inclusief Tijdelijke afbeelding voor Reynaldo Lopez, Jorge Arce,Chatchai Sasakul, Francisco Arce, Juan Alberto Rosas, Jonathan Perez,Alexander Valdez, Rafael Marquez, Johnny Soto, Teppei Kikui, Jose Navarro,Alexander Munoz en Katsushige Kawashima.
WBC nr. 18-Rojas is een voormalig WBC super vlieggewicht kampioen en de regerende WBC Americas vedergewicht titlist. Rojas, 36, was vanaf september de WBC super vlieggewicht wereldkampioen 20, 2010 tot en met augustus 19, 2011.
Zijn meest opmerkelijke overwinningen waren tegen Kohei Kono, Noburo Mashiro, Juan Jose Montes, Everado Morales en Evans Mbamba.
In het co-feature-evenement van acht ronden, ongeslagen Mexicaans bantamgewicht vooruitzicht Aaron “Geest” Alameda (18-0, 10 KO) stepped up in class to fight battle-tested Edgar “Vermogen” Jimenevan (22-12-2, 16 KO), van Mexico.
De 24-jarige Alameda was relatief ongetest, in termen van het omgaan met hoogwaardige oppositie, terwijl Jimenez een bewezen verstoorde specialist is die een meerderheidsbesluit van 10 ronden heeft genomen 28-0 Ivan Morales in 2015.

Encore presentations are scheduled forZaterdag, Juli 23 bij 11 p.m. EN / 8 p.m. PT en Zaterdag, Juli 30 bij 2 a.m. EN / 11 p.m. PT.
Hall-of-Famer announcers Jim “JR” Ross en Al Bernstein handle blow-by-blow and color commentary, respectievelijk, from ringside.
Het evenement, which took place June 4, 2016, is the first in the “Cancun Boksen” series that will air on CBS Sports Network in 2016. Grand Oasis Cancun and Hotel Complex, Het ENIGE ultieme all-inclusive entertainmentresort van Cancun, will play host to all events in the series.
Mexico’s 3-time world super flyweight champion Cristian “El Diamante” Mijares (53-8-2, 26 KO) took on his fellow countryman, ongeslagen Andres “Jaguarito” Gutierrez (34-0-1, 24 KO), in the 12-round main event for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Featherweight Championship. The outcome was controversial and now American viewers can be the judge.
WBC top 10 rated Mijares (afgebeeld naar links), 34, is a former IBF, WBA Super and WBC super flyweight world champion. The future Hall of Fame candidate is 11-5 in world title fights with key victories over Chatchai Sasakul,Jorge Arce en Katsushige Kawashima (tweemaal).
The 22-year-old Gutierrez (pictures to right), beoordeeld Geen. 6 door de WBC, turned pro at 15. The hot prospect has collected numerous title belts, including WBC Silver and Caribbean Boxing Federation super bantamweight, International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamgewicht, and WBC FECARBOX and World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro featherweight.
In a battle of typically tough Mexican welterweights, John “Linkshandige” Alvarez (23-5, 16 KO), a southpaw who was riding a 10-fight win streak into his June 4th match up, met former World Boxing Federation (WBF) kampioen Jose “Zuiger” Lopez (25-4-2, 15 KO) in a scheduled 8-round bout.
Also airing is a scheduled 8-round showdown between dangerous Mexican and Filipino rivals, Edgar “Vermogen” Jimenez (21-11-2, 15 KO) en Jovylito “J-Flash” Aligarbes (12-3, 6 KO). The 23-year-old Jimenez is a former FECARBOX bantamweight and Mexican flyweight champion who, two fights ago, took a 10-round decision from 28-0 Ivan Morales. The highlight of Aligarbes’ pro career to date is stopping Angelito Merin in the second round of their WBC Youth World super flyweight title fight in 2013.
