COLORADO SPRINGS, Ronde. (April 5, 2018 — USA Boxing heeft dat aangekondigd Duke Ragan (Cincinnati, OH) en Virginia Fuchs (Tent, TX) zijn genoemd 2017 Under Armour Elite Boxers of the Year. Ze zijn toonaangevende kanshebbers om Team USA te vertegenwoordigen op de 2020 Olympische Spelen in Japan.
 Vorig jaar, de 20-jarige Ragan gebruikte zijn stijve jab en ringintelligentie om voor het eerst in de internationale competitie een belangrijk statement in de ring te maken. Het gladde bantamgewicht (123 lbs.) veroverde goud op zijn eerste internationale toernooi, de Chemistry Cup in Halle, Duitsland, voordat hij een ticket voor zijn eerste Wereldkampioenschappen wist te bemachtigen, door zijn bronzen medaillewinnende prestatie op de 2017 Continentale kampioenschappen in Honduras.
Ragans derde internationale medaille van 2017 kwam bij de 2017 Wereldkampioenschappen heren elite, waar hij een zilveren medaille won, het markeren van de hoogste plaats voor een Amerikaans bantamgewicht op dat prestigieuze toernooi sindsdien 1999.
 Fuchs, 30, had een perfect 18-0 opnemen in 2017, inclusief 15 unanieme beslissingsoverwinningen en één door RSC (scheidsrechter stopte de wedstrijd). Uitgelicht door het winnen van de hoogste eer in de vlieggewichtdivisie (112 lbs.) bij de 2017 USA Nationale Elite Kampioenschappen in Salt Lake City, Utah, Virginia won ook op het Balkan Toernooi, Continentale kampioenschappen, Feliks Stamm-toernooi, en Strandja Toernooi. Ze won goud op alle vier internationale toernooien waaraan ze deelnam.
Een winnaar bij de 2016 Olympische Trials, Fuchs studeerde af aan de Louisiana State University in 2011 met een graad in Kinesiologie.

Citlalli Ortiz Wins Welterweight Youth World Championship Title

GUWAHATI, India (November 26, 2017) — Coachella, California-native Citlalli Ortiz closed out her impressive 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships campaign with a split decision victory over Russia’s Nataliya Sychugova to take her first major international title in Guwahati, India.
“Today feels like one of the best days of my life,” stated Ortiz following her win. “Na het gevecht, I doubted myself, but I am extremely happy I pulled out the win and it feels amazing being a world champion.”
Ortiz gold medal closes out a strong showing from the young American delegation. Team USA’s other medal, a bronze, was won yesterday by Isamary Aquino of Universal City, Texas.
“I am extremely proud of my performance at my first international tournament,” said Aquino following her medal ceremony. “It was an honor to be able to represent Team USA and bring home a world championship medal.”
The remaining members of the team included: Aidyl Cardenas (Calexico, Calif.),Diana Estrada (Hillsboro, Oregon), Heaven Garcia (Mt., Calif.), Roma Martinez (Vernederen, Texas), Sharahaya Moreu (Albuquerque, N.M.) en Amy Salinas(Las Cruces, N.M).
This year’s Youth World Championships brought 160 of the world’s top youth female boxers from 36 different countries all vying for one of the 10 world titles up for grabs. Hoofd coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assistant coaches Koroma (Colorado Springs, Colo.) en Jeff Mays (San Antonio, Texas) guided Team USA throughout these championships. The boxers and staff of USA Boxing will begin their journey back home to the United States morgen.
