 MIAMI (Octobre 26, 2016) — Internationally renowned boxing trainer Orlando Cuellar has come full circle, right back to the famed 5e St. Gym in South Beach, where he once visited as a teenager to learn and now trains fighters out of six days a week.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Cuellar’s family resettled in Miami when he was three with Orlando living there through high school. Comme un boxeur amateur, Cuellar vividly remembers watching boxers at 5e St. Gym such as Cassius Clay, Willie Pastrano, Vinnie Curto et Florentino Fernandez, as well as legendary trainers, frères Angelo et Chris Dundee.
“I watched and learned, picking up as much as much as I could,” Cuellar a dit. “Maintenant, I find myself working out of the 5e St. Gym for the past six weeks. It’s been an incredible experience. Chaque jour, you never know who is going to walk through the doors there. It’s been one of the best boxing gyms in the world for more than 50 ans. From the days dating back to Muhammad Ali, fighters have been attracted to this gym because of its rich history and great sparring, as well as to the area with South Beach’s restaurants, clubs and beach. The warm, humid weather also makes it easier for fighters to lose weight running and training.
“(Propriétaire) Dino Spencer is carrying on the 5e St. Gym’s tradition. Everyday I’m there is exciting for me. Mixed ethnic groups train there and it’s a magnet for talent. There’s sparring three days a week – I call it Spar-a-rama – and everybody’s welcome to challenge themselves. The sparring is better than a lot of TV fights.
 “5e St. Gym trainer Guy Laieta had been trying to convince me to join the team for the last five years. I spoke to Dino on several occasions, expressing my desire to train fighters out of the 5e St. Gym. Il dit, ‘Let’s do it.’ The success of the 5e St. Gym today has a lot to do with ownership. Dino has a passion for boxing and he is very hospitable, which trickles down to his staff and fighters. Good vibes all of the time!”
Cuellar left for Las Vegas in 1976 et, after he realized that being a boxer wasn’t in his best interest, he started training fighters there in 1981 out of Johnny Garcia’s Gym. Un an plus tard, he shifted his base Brooklyn and started training fighters out of another boxing icon, Gym Gleason. En 2000, he resettled in Miami.
Best known as world light heavyweight champion the head trainer of Glen Johnson, Cuellar also worked with future champions such as Nicolas Walters, Rances Barthelemy et Erslandy Lara, aussi bien que Luis Franco, Aaron Davis et Juan Carlos Gomez, to name a few of the more notables. Aujourd'hui, he’s the chief second for several top fighters including Antonio Tarver.
Recognized throughout boxing as a superior teacher, Cuellar’s success is mostly attributed to his training of fighters on an individual basis, focusing on their personal needs rather than giving all fighters the same instructions and attention.
“Each fighter needs personal and specific work to complement their God-given talents,” Cuellar explained. “You can’t teach all fighters the same way. I specialize on what I call old school meets new school. Old school was upfront and personal to go 15 tours, new school is about throwing more punches, more foot movement and fighting from the outside. I teach doffense: defense + offense. Punches aren’t vitamins, none should be taken. Boxing is little more than a battle of reflexes; one fighters versus another, but the real trick is how the fighter uses his reflexes. I teach my fighters how to turn the ring apron into a minefield.”
Boxing has played a huge role in Cuellar’s life. Back in the 5e St. Gym is just another chapter in his unique life.
“I live through my fighters,” Cuellar concluded. “Every victory is my proudest moment. There are no big or little victories, every win is a happy moment because of all the hard work and sacrifices me and my fighter made during training camp.”

Gestionnaire John Seip signe italienne super-moyens perspective Daniele Marco Scardina
MIAMI (Avril 6, 2015) – Manager de boxe vétéran John Seip a signé très décoré boxeur amateur italienne Daniel Mark Scardina à un contrat exclusif de gestion.
Seip est surtout connu pour guider Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin l'Organisation mondiale de boxe (WBO) moyens titre mondial. Le natif de New York gère également la hausse des super-moyens Colombie Coursier “L'étalon” Woodall (7-0-1, 5 KOs).
Le 21-year-old Scardina originaire de Rozzano, une ville de moins de 40,000 personnes dans la province de Milan. Il a commencé la boxe en 2008 à l'âge de 16, suit les traces de son oncle qui était un boxeur à ce moment-, ainsi que le modèle de Daniele.
Scardina, qui avait 56 combats amateurs, honneurs top capturés dans de nombreux tournois italiens, dont la National Rovereto, Gant d'Argent national, et deux Golden Gloves nationales. Il a également remporté une médaille de bronze lors d'un événement international.
En 2013, il en boîte pour l'équipe de boxe Italia Thunder in the World Series of Boxing, remportant son seul match contre un adversaire allemand.
Scardina d'abord attiré l'attention de Seip au célèbre 5e St. Gym à Miami Beach, Initialement ouvert en 1950 par Chris Dundee, et la maison de nombreux champions du monde ont formé il y compris Muhammad Ali, Carmen Basilio, Willie Pastrano, Emile Griffith, Archie Moore, Roberto Duran, Sonny Liston et Willie Pep. “Dino est un propriétaire qui a créé une salle de sport haut de gamme avec de grandes possibilités de sparring dans une atmosphère comportant tant de combattants de talent qui poussent vraiment l'autre. Il est déjà évident que Danielle a amélioré sa formation professionnelle il. Il est long, rapide et puissant. Son éthique de travail est incroyable; il est le premier dans le gymnase, dernier à quitter. Vous ne pouvez pas mal à cet enfant, non plus. Nous croyons tous qu'il a un très bel avenir.”
Contrairement combattants en provenance de Russie et les anciens pays du bloc soviétique, ainsi que ceux de l'Amérique latine qui viennent aux États-Unis pour établir leur carrière de boxe professionnelle, Combattants nés en Italie ont rarement suivi le même itinéraire que Scardina, qui a déménagé à Miami l'an dernier et dort sur le plancher de l'appartement de son frère.
Le champion du monde italien né solitaire qui a combattu professionnellement en Amérique est Vito Antuofermo (50-7-2, 21 KOs), qui était le champion des poids moyens WBC / WBA en 1979-1980. Antuofermo, bien que, déménagé avec sa famille à Brooklyn des Pouilles, Italie quand il était 17 et il a appris à boxer en Amérique.
“Je ai toujours voulu être un champion en Amérique,” Scardina dit. “Ce est le rêve américain pour moi. Je pense que je vais avoir une grande opportunité dans ce pays d'être le plus grand boxeur je peux être avec l'aide appropriée. John Seip est le droit gestionnaire pour moi parce qu'il croit que nous pouvons le championnat du monde ensemble comme une équipe.”
Boxeurs préférés de Scardina sont Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Guillermo Rigondeaux et Miguel Cotto. “Je travaille sur la perfection comme un combattant à l'extérieur et aux principaux mes bras plus étroits,” Scardina ajouté. Je me bats pour devenir champion du monde.”
Scardina devrait faire ses débuts pro en mai ou en Juin.
