BROOKLYN (Maggio 30, 2015) – Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) su Puntareturned to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center il Venerdì night with another explosive night of bouts for fight fans. Nel main event, Amir “Re” Caravanserraglio (31-3, 19 KO) scored a crafty and hard fought unanimous decision over Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KO) e Javier Fortuna (28-0-1, 20 KO) won a crowd-pleasing unanimous decision victory over Bryan Vasquez (34-2, 18 KO) in the televised opener.

Below are comments made by the televised fighters after their performances stasera:

AMIR KHAN

I thought I worked well inside. I’ve never done a lot of work in the pocket like that and I plan to do more of that in the future.

I give Chris a lot of credit. He came forward a lot more than we thought he would and he had a big chin stasera.

Chris gave it his all stasera. This is the best Algieri we’ve seen in a long time, and if he’d have fought Manny (Pacquiao) that way he might have won.

Everyone knows I want Floyd (Mayweather) next after all the talk about it, but when you wait and hope for something for this long it can set you back. I don’t want to overlook any other fighters, including Chris.

My first show with PBC has been great. The New York crowd was awesome and really got into it. The promotion was excellent and I’m proud to be a part of this team.

CHRIS Algieri

I thought I pressured Khan well and got my touches. He definitely didn’t like it when I got into his body.

I thought I hurt him several times, but Khan’s a cagey fighter and he spins off. I guess the judges liked that stasera. I would think the cleaner, harder shots would get a little more respect.

I think PBC is fantastic. The focus is on the fighters, not the politics or the promoters. This is helping bring the sport back to boxing’s glory days of primetime events for the fans.

I haven’t thought much about after this fight. Sono deluso, but I’ll watch the film from this fight and we’ll go from there.

JAVIER FORTUNA

I’m very surprised that the fight went the distance. Vasquez is a strong fighter. After the fifth round, I was boxing to score points.

I was never really hurt by Vasquez, but I hurt my own hand on his head.

Vasquez didn’t really affect me throughout the fight. The swelling on my eye is from a headbutt.

The biggest key to my success stasera was my training. Before this I didn’t have the stamina that I needed. Tuttavia, after my work with Hector Bermudez leading up to this fight I was more than ready.

Becoming a champion here in New York is huge for me. I’m very proud of my performance stasera.”

BRYAN VASQUEZ

My style is to box and then move. Fortuna fought a smart fight stasera. He wouldn’t engage me and fight.

Fortuna used his head and elbows a lot stasera, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. I tried telling the referee, but nothing was done.

I worked very hard for three months of training to get to this fight. I hope I won over some fans today because I fight to please them.

Hopefully I get a rematch because this is not the end of my career, and I’d love the chance to take that belt from Fortuna.

I want to thank PBC for this opportunity. It was great being a part of this show and I hope they’ll think of me again in the future.

Ecco ciò che i partecipanti dovevano dire Mercoledì:

AMIR KHAN

I really believe that I have the movement, the skills and the technique to beat Chris Algieri and look spectacular doing it.

Algieri has been in the ring with big names before so we know that’s not going to scare him and he won’t get nervous. I’m going to be ready for anything he brings to the table.

This is going to be an entertaining fight because of our styles. We both like to throw a lot of punches and there will be a lot of movement. This will be a more skillful fight and I think the fans will enjoy what they see.

I’ve always wanted to fight here at Barclays Center and I really am excited to put on a great performance for all the New Yorkers.

Virgil Hunter has been great for me as a fighter and he’s helped me really understand the sport of boxing. I’ve worked on my technique and my defense and really just everything.

Training camp for me has been really good. I’m focused on my opponent and I’m not going to make any mistakes. It’s going to be a great performance from me il Venerdì.”

CHRIS Algieri

This is going to be a great fight with two fast-paced boxers. It’s going to be very exciting for everyone watching.

Working down in Florida with John David Jackson really refreshed a lot of things in boxing for me. I got to see new things and try new things. I learned a lot.

The only thing that matters is proving something to myself and I do feel like I have to prove something. I wasn’t happy with my last performance at all. I know I belong here at the elite level and it’s time for me to prove it.

I like to challenge myself and this is a great opportunity. I’m ready for this, I will challenge anybody in the welterweight division.

I feel very comfortable being here in New York and I’m happy to be back at Barclays Center.

JAVIER FORTUNA

For me it is an honor to be here in Brooklyn. This will be a great night for all of my fans.

I hope my opponent doesn’t have any excuses il Venerdì, because I’m going to knock him out.

Everyone here is going to see a great performance and I can’t wait to get in the ring.

I’m a strong fighter and I am looking forward to showing everyone what I am capable of.

BRYAN VASQUEZ

I’m very thankful to be here and I look forward to a great fight. I promise it’s going to be a war.

I’m an exciting fighter who always comes to fight. This is my time and I will not disappoint.

Fighting in New York is a great opportunity. I want people to see that Costa Rica has great fighters.

I know I have a tough opponent, but he has never faced anyone like me. I’m going to give it my all and I hope he does the same.

MARCUS BROWNE

I feel like having a daughter has given me the kick in the rear that really has me focused on what I want to do, which is becoming a world champion. I want to give her a better life than I ever had.

My intensity and focus has never been higher. The fun part of boxing is back again.

I told my daughter that ‘daddy is going to give you the world. So I guess I need to become a world champion to give her the world. Her first word might be ‘champ.'

I’m so thankful to all the people at Barclays Center that allow me to continue to show off my talent and skills in this beautiful building.

Fighting on this Premier Boxing Champions card is really special and amazing. When I went to the Olympics in 2012 we stayed in Bolton and worked out at Amir Khan’s gym, now it comes full circle.

Fans can expect to see ‘spizazzfrom me. That’s a word I came up with back in my amateur days. I’m here to bring that ‘spizazz’ indietro, if you want to know what that is you have to buy a ticket for Venerdì notte.”

HEATHER HARDY

I don’t look past what is in front of me. I have a really tough challenge in front of me il Venerdì. I know she has an incredible desire to win and I’m ready for that.

I’m a pretty aggressive fighter but I’ve been known to box. I go in there and make adjustments but I’m not afraid to throw punches.

There was a really unfinished feeling after my last fight, I was disappointed. I expected more from my opponent. I wanted to put on a show for fans to remember.

I definitely want to make up for my last fight this time and I feel like my opponent is on the same page with me about where we need to go to take this sport further.

Here is what Khan and Algieri had to say about training camp, each other and more:

AMIR KHAN

Algieri is a fighter that has a lot of skills and assets. His range and height give him good advantages against opponents but I believe with my speed, movement and style it will be too much for him.

Each day me and Virgil Hunter are getting stronger and we have built a really good rapport. It takes time to get that but he understands my style even more now and what works for me so we’re only going to keep growing.

My aim since I was a kid and got into this sport was to be the very best. I fulfilled a dream when I got to the Olympics at 17 and brought back a silver medal. Later I became a world champion and then unified the light-welterweight division. My goal now is to fight the very best at 147 pounds and make my mark on this division too.

I was away in training camp when my daughter turned one last week. It’s hard to be away from her but as a fighter those are the sacrifices you have to make. Everything I do is for her and I can’t wait to see her and spend time with her after this fight. Her birthday celebrations have been put on hold until after the fight!

I’m really looking forward to returning to New York and fighting at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I have good memories of this city because it’s the place where I had my first fight on US soil against Paulie Malignaggi in 2010 and also where I got married. I’m out to make it another good time this weekend.

CHRIS Algieri

I know that it gets said all the time, but this was truly the best and most intense training camp of my life. Working with John David Jackson has truly been a blessing. He has brought out the best Chris Algieri there is. You are going to see a whole new fighter come Venerdì notte.

I am excited to be back in New York and excited to show the world what I am really made of il Venerdì notte. We are just a few days away from the fight and I am so anxious to get in there and get to work.

Amir is a tough fighter there is no doubt about that, but I am very confident in my ability and the game plan that coach has come up with for me.

You are going to see two proven champions in a high intensity and high level fight, laying everything on the line come Venerdì notte.”

BOSTON (Maggio 21, 2015) – Fighters partecipanti il Sabato di Premier Boxing Champions su NBC card took part in the final press conference today at historic Fenway Park in Boston before their respective fights at Agganis Arena, with televised coverage starting at 4:30 p.m. E/1:30 p.m. PT.

ANDRE DIRRELL

A title means everything. It completes you as a fighter. That’s the top of the food chain in this sport, and that’s the pedestal we’re all trying to reach – campione del mondo. Everybody wants to be a world champion. The greats had it and now we want it. It would mean more for my city, la mia famiglia ei miei amici, and it’s something I’ll always be able to look back it. It would put me in the record books for life.

DeGale is not quiet. Today he’s chilling, maybe because he’s a little out of his comfort zone. But there’s a lot of tension when you’re standing right there next to your opponent. He might just be a little cranky today.

I like to lighten the mood and stay comfortable. This is all a part of the game. Let’s have fun now. It’s ass-kicking time when we get in that ring, but outside it’s all love.

There was a time when I didn’t want to do interviews. I didn’t want to go to fights. I didn’t want to hear fans online and on social media. I closed all them down because I didn’t want to hear people ask, ‘When are you fighting again? Talking about talent wasted, or saying I’m glad he’s gone.It hurt because there was nothing I could do. I was powerless even with all the power in the world.

James DeGale

Andre says the belt doesn’t mean anything to him in the fight – bene, the belt means everything to me and more. I am here to make history and it doesn’t happen without that title.

I could win il Sabato night and retire a happy manthat’s how much I want to beat Andre Dirrell. But when I do win that title, I am going for the rest of the belts, creating a lasting legacy for my country, my fans and myself.

Andre is a classy fighter and he showed in the press conference that he is a classy guy toowhen two fighters who believe in their ability 100 percent and know they are going to win a fight, it is going to be explosive.

There’s nothing but respect between us, but ultimately, we’re going to take each other to dark territory il Sabato notte, it’s going to be a brutal battleand one that I am going to win.

EDWIN RODRIGUEZ

This is home for me and I’m thrilled. I know I have a good undefeated fighter in front me, so I’m looking forward to a competitive matchup.

This is an exciting day for me. I saw Pedro Martinez pitch so many times here at Fenway and he’s going into the Hall of Fame. Anche, my fellow countrymen Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz have made so much history here.

Being here today and then having the weigh-in at Faneuil Hall domani and fighting il Sabato, it’s just an amazing experience.

CRAIG BAKER

“Questa è una grande opportunità per me. I’ve dreamed of fighting on a grand scale like this since I first started boxing.

The entire experience has been awesome. It’s going to be an interesting fight. I’m going to keep coming forward. I’m going to keep boxing all night.

Everyone should look forward to an action packed night, I know it’s going to be an interesting matchup.

Danny O'Connor

A couple of years ago Ken Casey and I talked about bringing boxing back to the city of Boston. Fast-forward to today and we’re doing it.

I’m excited to be part of it and to see boxing in Boston blossom. It’s good for the city and all the young boxers in this area.

I know I have a tough opponent in front of me and I won’t take him lightly. I’m planning on putting on a show for the fans come Sabato notte.”

CHRIS GILBERT

I’m an aggressive come forward, in your face boxer from the first bell to the last.

I was full steam ahead when I got the call for this fight. I train all the time, I don’t take breaks and I’m always looking for an opportunity. Non potrei essere più felice.

Danny O’Connor is one of the best in my weight division in New England. Everything he does, he does well.

I just need to keep my head and continue to come forward, I can’t get frustrated. I’m going 100 percent the full way through. If I’m busy and I fight smart I get good outcomes.

BOSTON (Maggio 20, 2015) – Fighters took part in a media workout at The Ring Boxing Club in Boston Wednesday to kick off fight week for questo Sabato Premier Boxing Champions su NBC card at Agganis Arena that is headlined byAndre Dirrell vs. James DeGale with coverage starting at 4:30 p.m. E/1:30 p.m. PT.

I biglietti saranno disponibili su www.ticketmaster.com. Per caricare al telefono, call Ticketmaster (800) 745-3000.

See here what the participants had to say Wednesday:

ANDRE DIRRELL

I always knew my day would come. Mi metto al lavoro, I love this sport so I give it what I owe.

I’m happy to get a shot at another title. I’m not going to take it for granted. I’m going to put in my work and perform to the best of my ability and that will make me a world champion.

I’m glad to be getting in there with somebody who believes he can win. I want someone who will test me like I’ll test them. That’s a real championship fight.

I’m much hungrier than I was early in my career and I’m more focused mentally. With age comes wisdom. Everything I went through is all a blessing.

My goals are set and I’m going to accomplish every one.

James DeGale

Dirrell’s team is trying to get in my head. They must be scared. I’m wound up and I’m ready.

I’m obsessed with making history. It’s what drives me to work so hard in the gym and succeed in the ring.

It’s been a 16-week camp come fight night, so it’s been a long time. My body and mind feel ready to fight, I am so sharp and in a very good place.

He’s a tricky, talented, confident fighterhe believes in his ability. He said that he would not get beaten again in his career, and I am sure he believes that 100 cento. So you have two very confident fighters going into the ring il Sabato.

I’m going to show everybody who I am. I’m driven to become the first Olympic gold medalist from the U.K. to win a world title and I’m doing it for my country.

EDWIN RODRIGUEZ

It’s an extremely important fight because it’s so close to my home.

I’m excited to be fighting on NBC. This is a great opportunity for me to be back at the elite level.

It’s important for me to get this win and get into a big fight against the best. I know I have to look impressive and that’s what I plan on.

Danny O'Connor

I was disappointed in my fight with Paulie Malignaggi dropping out but there are always positives and one of them is that I’m now fighting in my hometown of Boston.

I do a lot of work in and out of the ring to prepare for a fight. I’m full focused now on fighting Chris Gilbert.

I want to thank all the people who helped get me onto this card, including Murphys Boxing, I promise I’m going to put on a show come Sabato.”

CHRIS GILBERT

“Questa è una grande opportunità per me. I’ve known about Danny since I started boxing and I’ve even been on a few cards with him.

Danny has been the top New England fighter in my division and you always want to compare your skills with somebody like him.

I was in Vermont and I’m always in top shape prepared to get a call to fight and this here is that big opportunity.

GARY “SPIKE” O'SULLIVAN

This is absolutely awesome fighting here and it’s a very important fight for me to go win.

When I knock out my opponent il Sabato, I want to be the number one contender in the division and fight all the big names.

RYAN Kielczweski

It’s awesome fighting in Boston in front of my home crowd with all of my friends, family and friends in attendance.

Fighting on the undercard of this huge event with so many great fights makes the experience even better and one I’ll never forget.

È sempre bello combattere a casa. Ti senti più a tuo agio a casa. I fan ti conoscono e ti onorano.

E all'interno di Agganis Arena.

CAMPIONI DI PUGILATO PREMIER SULLA TRASCRIZIONE DELLA CONFERENCE CALL NBC

COMUNICATO STAMPA
Per diffusione immediata

Lou DiBella

Quello è il Sabato del weekend del Memorial Day all'Agganis Arena di Boston. L'ora di inizio su NBC è 4:30 p.m. E/1:30 p.m. PT.

E/1:30 p.m. PT.

C. Panettiere

Mi sentivo come se fosse ora, uno.

Q

Edwin, cosa ti colpisce di Craig Baker?

E. Rodriguez

Q

Hai sconfitto combattenti imbattuti in passato.

L. DiBella

Grazie, Giacomo. Andre Dirrell, per favore, dì qualche parola.

Andre Dirrell

E/1:30 p.m. PT.

Poi quattro mesi dopo, Ho inscatolato Periban.

Dirrell

But it seems like some people forget how good of a boxer that you are because you had to take this time off. With this being on NBC and getting in front of a large audience, are you looking at this as an opportunity to put your name back in that conversation for people who may have forgotten how good Andre Dirrell is?

La. Dirrell

People know and in the end, it’s my job to keep my name lean. I haven’t had the opportunity to do that as well. I had a major setback as well, but with that I stayed in the game, stayed sharp. I was sharp in my last couple of performances. I’m looking forward to the future and this is the breakout fight like I said. James is one hell of a fighter. He has a lot of heart, a lot of spunk, a lot of energy, uno, and he wants to win.

If you want to put me in front of a fighter for a world championship fight, then James DeGale is bar none one of the best to do it in front of. Così, I’m excited about this fight. I think this is probably one of the biggest fights from Premier Boxing Champion that they’ve had and I’m excited to be on that big stage. Così, I want a breakout performance and I did everything in camp to make sure I can do so.

Q

How does it feel to be the first Brit on the verge of making some boxing history?

J. DeGale

E 'davvero bello, but I need to stay focused and keep my eye out on the prize. That’s what I have to do. Ma, sai cosa? A lot of people say I’m obsessed about making history, about becoming the first Olympic gold medalist from Great Britain to win a genuine world title. Ma sai cosa? Sono. I am because that’s what drives me and that’s what makes me train hard every day. Così, sì, Non vedo l'ora.

Q

Bene, and you touched on a little bit there. I mean not so long ago you were boxing in front of a couple of hundred people at the shopping center in Blue Water and now you’re making noise on TV in America. How does that feel, the difference?

J. DeGale

Bene, it’s fantastic. Sure a lot of credit has to go to Eddie Hearn. I’m a buzz fire. I like the big audience. I like the big lights. I’m just feeling real relaxed, chilled and ready to perform Sabato prossimo. I’m buzzing. I really can’t wait; just being in America and knowing that I’m going to make my debut Sabato prossimo in front of millions of Americans and back in the UK as well. It’s going to be fantastic.

Q

Altro, this fight seems to be your highest profile fight since five years ago when you had the Abraham fight, when he got DQ’ed. You were leading at that time. Can you tell us at this point, where are you physically and mentally compared to where you were when you were obviously at the top of the division five years ago?

La. Dirrell

Bene, I look at it all from a mental aspect. Al momento, uno, I’m grown tremendously in my mind. I’ve realized how important boxing is to me and what it takes to become world champion, the work you have to put in and I just follow those guidelines every day. I’m a very motivated fighter, very self-motivated. A lot of fighters run with music, have to listen to music.

If I can hear my punches while I’m hitting the bag, I’m motivated. Così, nothing motivates me more than hard work and that’s all I look for. The fight is won in the gym, not on fight night. It’s what you do in the gym, not how hard you put up a fight.

I’ve done all of that and more. I feel very relaxed. I’m very energetic and I’m feeling the vibe already and I really can’t wait to make Sabato myself. I feel I have a lot to prove and I have a different Andre Dirrell to show, one that’s just as sharp, just as fast, just as brave, but just has a bigger mental capacity. I’m excited about next week.

Q

What do you think your advantages are over James DeGale in this fight?

La. Dirrell

We’re pretty much evenly matched and I actually like that scenario because I know I’m faster. I know I’m smarter and I know I’m a better boxer. It’s just as simple as that. Ma, none of that can come into play without hard work, and I know he’s worked his ass off, uno. He has to come over to America just like I went over there to England to try to fight for a world championship.

I know what kind of guy I’m going to face come the 23rd. I’ve worked my butt off like I said, , and with those advantages, I’ve put the hard work in so I can display that. I just feel like I’ll be the better man that night.

Q

Giacomo, tell us why you think you’re confident that you’re going to be able to win this fight?

J. DeGale

Momentum is a big thing. Look at my last two performances against good, quality opponents and look his last three. Listen, I come from good pedigree and so does Andre. We’re good, quality, young fighters. But I just think overall, I’m better. I think he struggles. He doesn’t like it when it gets hard in there. He’s a competent fighter, but he likes it when he’s dictating the pace and he’s on the front foot.

Well listen, I’m not going to let him rest. He thinks this is going to be a boxing match. Bene, this ain’t. I’m telling him now. This ain’t going to be a boxing match. I’m going in there and I’m taking the title. I’m taking it. I’m ripping it away from him.

Q

Do you think you’re a really improved fighter? I know that the loss that you had to Groves was very controversial, but how much do you think you’ve improved since that fight with Groves?

J. DeGale

It’s like night and day. Listen, and another thing, I was in this for two years as well. I had two operations on my groin. Così, I couldn’t throw my shots with any power. I couldn’t run the ring properly. Even in the fight at Wembley in front of 80,000 Non ero 100% destra. Even against Periban I wasn’t 100% destra. Now I’m 100% destra, fully healthy, fully focused and mentally right. Così, you’re going to see me step up again Sabato prossimo.

Q

Giacomo, you mentioned about being a buzz fighter and this is the biggest stage, the biggest pressure you’ve ever been under. Così, does this mean we’re going to see your best ever performance?

J. DeGale

I honestly do. The way I’ve been in the gym training, sparring, in esecuzione, I honestly think you’re going to see the performance of my career so far. My last couple of fights after my injuries have been sorted and I just got better and better and I think this one is going to top it and winning my world title as well and making history.

Q

Ma, do you deal with the pressure and does that inspire you more?

JamesI thrive on it. Sai chi sono. I thrive in it. I’m just looking forward to it. As I say, it’s my debut as a professional in America. Così, I’m buzzing right now. You don’t understand. I’m just really looking forward to it.

Q

Altro. You’ve obviously fought Carl Froch and you’ve watched video of James I imagine. How do they compare as fighters and who do you rate as a better fighter?

La. Dirrell

As far as skill, I can give it to James DeGale, but as far as toughness, mental toughness, physical toughness, that’s Carl Froch. We all know how mentally strong he is. Così, I have to give the edge to Carl Froch in that aspect, but as I said before, I know DeGale is coming to fight and no one gets in that ring and fights me as they want to fight. You know what I’m saying? Just like he thinks it’s going to be an easy fight. I feel like I have a lot more to prove as well.

Così, I’m looking to bring the fight as well and I’m working hard in the gym. I made it tough on myself. The more pressure you actually put on me, the more dangerous I become.

I’m really excited as well, uno. I have a lot to prove. He has a lot to prove. This is going to be the best fight yet on Premier Boxing Champions.

Q

Basically for Andre, there was a chance obviously this fight could end up going to Britain. You’ve been to Britain before and you were very unlucky against Carl Froch. Was that something you were against, to face another title fight in Britain?

La. Dirrell

I’m not going to say that because I enjoyed my time over there. I believe I won the fight like I said and it just didn’t go my way unfortunately. I don’t like to judge my future fights based on past. I look forward to fighting in Britain again, in England again, the UK again whenever that day may come. I had a lot of fans over there; I have a lot of fans over there and I enjoy my time over there. I’ve been going over there since the amateurs. I enjoy it very much and I’m a world-class fighter. Così, I want to be displayed on a world-class level.

I’m definitely looking forward to it. If it was over there, if it had to be over there, così sia. I would have came over there to fight James. We are world competitors, world-class. We fight for world titles. Why should it be in America all the time? This is a world-class sport and we should treat it like one.

Q

Arthur Abraham kind of robbed you of your great win when he hit you on the floor. That was looking like such a great performance that night. In the sort of layup after that, how close did you come to actually having to retire? Was there ever a time you thought you might not box again?

La. Dirrell

I was going through some stuff with my family. I actually wanted to. I knew in my heart that I’d get my time again. I knew my time would come. I knew I had a chance of getting out of my contract. Così, I kept training. Naturalmente, there were times that I would hit slumps and feel like I’m doing it for nothing, but it was quite a stressful time for me. I think I always knew that I would be able to get back in that ring. Così, I stayed busy and it didn’t really totally veer me away from the sport, but I do know the feeling.

I did feel like any moment could come up to where that it could be over just like that and I had to deal with it and I could easily retire. If it happened again, I just might. I knew that my time was coming again. There’s always hope there. I just kept pushing forward and here I am now.

Q

One for you, Giacomo, quickly. You’re in Florida now. Can you tell us where you are and how’s it going?

J. DeGale

Sì, non, I’m in Miami. I’ve been training here for the past week. Così, we climatized and we adjusted and we’re ready to go.

L. DiBella

Just a couple of final words. Grazie, Edwin, brama, Andre and James. This is a great undercard that features a lot of New England talent and I want to acknowledge Murphys Boxing, our friend Ken Casey who’s with the legendary Irish band, the Dropkick Murphys, and is helping us with local promotion. We’re going to have a lot of announcements coming about some great fight week activities.
