Mercado made it all the way back, and was able to box his way to win the decisive eighth round.

 

 

 

Mercado, 140.8 lbs of Puerto Rico won by scores of 77-74 e 76-75 twice to raise his mark to 12-5. Vazquez, 137.9 lbs of Yonkers, New York fought a great fight, but now falls to 10-5.

 

 

 

I just thought of my dad. I thought the fight was close to being stopped. It was not easy, he is a good boxer. I did not feel the cut. I will have to talk to my team, but money talks for a rematch,” said Mercado

 

 

 

Vazquez said,”It could of went any way. He is a good opponent. He is tough. We both have power. We both came ready for the fighter. Today we are both winners.

Carto of Philadelphia has a record of 13-0 com 11 nocautes. O 21 year-old has established himself as one of the top prospects in Philadelphia, and the popular Carto continues to draw large and enthusiastic crowds to his fights.
Carto, who had a very active 2017 as he mustered seven victories and has a signature win over Alonso Melendez (14-1). Carto is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over Luis Fernando Saavedra on December 1st at The SugarHouse Casino.

BELÉM, PA. (Junho 28, 2017) – Miguel Cruz (16-0, 11 KOs) ganhou uma decisão unânime para derrotar Alex Martin (13-2, 5 KOs) e permaneceu invicto em uma revanche dos meio-médios que encabeçou Premier Boxe dos Campeões TERÇA TOE-de-toe em FS1 eBoxe dos Campeões na Fox Deportes Terça-feira noite do Sands Bethlehem Events Center em Belém, Pa.
Depois de vencer uma decisão dividida contra Martin no confronto de janeiro, Cruz manteve seu recorde perfeito intacto ao marcar dois knockdowns antes de tomar a decisão em seu confronto de 10 rounds.
“Sinceramente, não me senti bem na nossa primeira luta e quando re-assisti, Eu pensei que Martin ganhou,” disse Cruz. “Isso me fez treinar cada vez mais do que nunca para provar que tenho as habilidades e o poder para competir em nível mundial, e acho que fiz isso hoje à noite.”
Cruz começou rápido ao acertar um enorme gancho de esquerda que pegou Martin e o derrubou no final do primeiro round. Martin conseguiu se levantar e se recuperar pouco antes do sino soar para encerrar a rodada.
Martin continuou tentando trabalhar por dentro, mas Cruz estava determinado a empurrar para trás e aterrissou consistentemente com grandes tiros de força. Outro gancho de esquerda na quarta rodada mandou Martin para o tatame novamente, embora ele parecesse menos afetado do que durante o primeiro knockdown.
“Eu estava lutando contra sua luta hoje à noite,” disse Martin. “Eu simplesmente não tive meu melhor desempenho. O primeiro knockdown foi um knockdown real, mas no segundo knockdown ele me acertou na parte de trás da cabeça.”
A quinta rodada viu Martin começar a boxear de forma mais eficaz, pousando várias mãos direitas antes de um gancho de esquerda cair baixo, mandando Cruz para a lona e fazendo com que o árbitro Gary Rosato interrompesse a luta enquanto Cruz se recuperava.
Quando a ação recomeçou, Martin continuou a virar a maré da luta. Seu movimento foi muito eficaz e seu sucesso com a mão esquerda foi consistente ao longo das rodadas de cinco a oito.
“Martin foi super difícil,” disse Cruz. “Eu não achava que ele conseguiria sair da segunda rodada, mas ele definitivamente me deu problemas. Eu estava tentando impedi-lo.”
Abaixo no placar por causa dos knockdowns iniciais, O esforço de retorno de Martin foi curto, pois Cruz conseguiu segurar Martin nas duas últimas rodadas a caminho de ganhar a decisão aos olhos de todos os três juízes pela pontuação de 96-92.
“Eu sabia que estava voltando para a luta, mas não estou dando desculpas hoje à noite,” disse Martin. “Ele ganhou a luta justa e quadrada, parabéns para ele.”
“Treinei para o Martin como se ele fosse o campeão do mundo e é assim que vou treinar para cada luta da minha carreira,” disse Cruz. “Foi uma luta tremenda, Estou feliz por ter conseguido a vitória. Eu só quero voltar para Porto Rico e comemorar meu aniversário amanhã.”
Ação televisionada adicional viu Clarence Booth (15-3, 8 KOs) parar Porto Rico Mercado Antônio (10-3, 9 KOs) na quarta rodada de sua competição meio-médio.
O mais alto Mercado teve sucesso no início da luta, enquanto Booth tentava entrar e atacar o corpo. Mercado acertou um par de mãos direitas limpas em cada uma das duas primeiras rodadas que pareciam atordoar Booth.
“Ele era um lutador duro,” disse Booth. “Eu precisava me soltar para as primeiras rodadas. Fiquei tenso no começo.”
Lutando fora de St. Petersburg, Florida, Booth foi capaz de resistir à tempestade nas duas primeiras rodadas e começou a virar a maré na terceira rodada com uma direita limpa que cambaleou Mercado.
Booth manteve o ritmo e rapidamente colocou Mercado na tela com um par de mãos direitas na quarta rodada. Mercado conseguiu ficar de pé, mas eventualmente Booth rompeu novamente e surpreendeu Mercado com mais mãos direitas. A agitação final levou o árbitro Eric Dali a interromper a luta 1:30 no quarto quadro.
“Eu tive algumas perdas difíceis, mas agora estou em um grande retorno,” disse Booth. “Estou muito feliz por ter esta oportunidade na televisão e fiz o melhor possível. Meu promotor Marshall Kauffman e a King's Promotions me darão ótimas oportunidades no futuro.”
“Ele me acertou com um bom tiro,” said Mercado. “Ele espetou e veio com a mão direita que eu não vi chegando. Voltarei ainda melhor.”
