Perrella to face Grayton June 4 sur ESPN

Fort Myers, FL (Mai 11, 2016) – Welterweight sensation Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella will face his toughest foe to date when he challenges fellow unbeaten southpaw David “Day-Day” Grayton Samedi, Juin 4 au Centre Bell à Montréal, Québec, Canada.

The Perrella-Grayton bout serves as the co-main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card televised on ESPN.

Living and fighting out of Fort Myers, FL, the heavy-handed Perrella has a stellar 13-0 registre professionnel avec 12 victoires par KO. Against Grayton, la 6’0 Perrella fights on TV for a third consecutive time, previously halting both Chaquib Fadli and Ramon Ayala. Avant que, Perrella impressively stopped dangerous Patrick Boozer, ending a remarkable year and a half run where he took out three previously unbeaten fighters. Comme un amateur, Perrella competed in the 2012 US Olympic Trials where he defeated current rising star Regis Prograis before coming up short against Sammy Vasquez and eventual winner Errol Spence.

Hailing from talent-laden Washington, DC, Grayton is an excellent 14-0 and has ten kayos. En Octobre 2015, Grayton bested often-avoided Martin Wright over eight rounds. Fighting under the tutelage of George Peterson, who developed Paul Williams into one of boxing’s best fighters, Grayton had an excellent amateur pedigree of his own. En 2010, he defeated the aforementioned Spence to capture National Golden Gloves title and he also won bronze at the 2012 tournoi.

“I know he’s undefeated and is coming to fight but this is a big step up for him,” Perrella said of Grayton. “I expect him to try and drag me into a dog fight. Regardless of what he brings, I’m looking forward to come out on top with a great performance. I’ve fought the better opposition and have been asking for harder fights. I believe I’m an overall better fighter and on Juin 4 everybody will see that.”

Michael Nowling, Perrella’s head trainer, is very familiar Grayton and is equally as confident his fighter will emerge victorious.

“David Grayton is a strong and athletic southpaw that is coming to win. Indépendamment, he’s never fought anybody like Bryant Perrella. For some time now, I’ve wanted Bryant to step up and fight another prospect because I believe he’s better than a lot of guys out there. Against Grayton, our plan is to break him down and win in style. Doing so in a fight like this can set us apart from other prospects.”

The card is promoted by Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) and is headlined by a bout featuring light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev against 2008 Argentinean Olympian Ezequiel Maderna.

Tickets will be available on Groupeyvonmichel.ca/eng/tickets.html shortly.

LAKELAND, FLORIDE (Mai 9, 2016) – Candidat invaincu Kanat Islam (21-0, 18 KOs) stopped Colombia’s Jesus De Angel (18-4-1, 17 KOs) in the sixth round ofDimanche night’s main event on Premier Champions de boxe: La prochaine ronde surBounce TV du Lakeland Center à Lakeland, Floride.
The rising 154-pounder from Kazakhstan stopped his ninth straight opponent inside the distance when De Angel fell to the canvas twice in round six prompting referee Telis Assimenios to halt the bout 22 secondes dans la ronde.
De Angel appeared to succumb to an ankle injury while taking a step backward that forced him to drop to the canvas. Islam sensed his moment and pounced on the injured brawler to put an end to the bout quickly. De Angel was taken to the emergency room after the fight due to the in-ring injury.
Un 2004 Médaillé de bronze olympique, Islam was able to navigate around the four-inch reach advantage owned by De Angel and control the fight with his athleticism and powerful right hand. His first headlining appearance was a successful one as he looks to continue to climb the ladder towards a world title.
L'événement co-principal de la scie du soir Miguel Cruz (13-0, 11 KOs) take home a split decision victory over Samuel Figueroa (10-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round back-and-forth battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects.
The friends turned rivals brought the action from the beginning as the smaller southpaw Figueroa aggressively attacked the body of Cruz in early exchanges. Cruz’s timing improved as the fight went on and his combinations began to land and stunt the attack of Figueroa.
Some of the best back-and-forth action came in round six as both fighters had found their way through the opponent’s defense. Cruz used his length to beat Figueroa to the punch, but Figueroa continued to throw punches and do plenty of damage throughout the heated final stanzas.
In a fight that appeared to be an even affair, the judges scores were 77-75 for Figueroa and 78-74 et 77-75 for Cruz to give him the split decision.
Dans le combat d'ouverture de la télédiffusion, des super-plumes Dennis Galarza (13-1, 8 KOs) won his eighth straight fight as he defeated durable Mexican Yardley Suarez (15-4, 9 KOs) over eight hard fought rounds.
Galarza used his length advantage to break Suarez down with his jab and penetrate his defense with various combinations. The Brooklyn-born fighter now training out of Orlando dominated the first half of the fight on his way to the unanimous decision.
Suarez began to pick up the action in the second half of the fight landing several hard punches and challenging Galarza to exchange in the middle of the ring in round five. He landed perhaps the best combination of the fight in round six with a pair of punches that sent Galarza into retreat mode for the remainder of the round.
Overall it was Galarza’s output that proved to be the biggest difference as he threw 421 punches to Suarez’s 305 on his way to a 117-99 avantage dans les coups reçus. Les juges’ scores étaient 77-75 et 78-74 twice for Galarza.
Voici ce que les combattants avaient à dire Dimanche nuit:
KANAT ISLAM
It felt good to go to (six) rounds to get the win. My last few opponents didn’t put up a fight and challenge me. My team wanted to test me and everything went to plan for what I wanted to do in the ring.
I boxed, I used my feet, I moved in and out, I set up my power punches and I was able to finish him off. I hope he’s OK, I know it’s hard to fight with an injury. I hope he recovers soon.
I saw he was beginning to get tired around round four and knew I had him hurt. That’s when I started hitting him with harder punches. I did the work I wanted to do, and then I wanted to finish him.
There were a lot of fans from the Kazakhstan community here, a lot of fans who traveled from far places to see me fight. That meant a lot to me. I wanted to make sure they got to see everything I can do in the ring. Now I want them to see me win a world title this year.
I feel like I can come back demain. I don’t want any longer breaks in my career. I want big fights. Who are the champions? That is who I want to fight.
MIGUEL CRUZ
I know that I won the fight in the end, but it was a hard fight, a very tough fight. I was landing the cleaner shots but there were times where he was putting the pressure on me. He hurt me with body shots and he actually managed to hurt me in the last round with a right hook. I recognized when he hurt me and I hit him and hurt him right back. I had him hurt a couple of times.
I knew he was a tough guy from when we fought in the amateurs and from when we sparred together. He made me bring something out of me that I didn’t even know I had and I appreciate him for that.
This was the toughest fight of my career. Maintenant, I want to rest and relax, but within the next 2-3 months I’ll start looking at the guys that can get me closer to a world title.
The fight’s over, we can absolutely go back to being friends. It’s business. They told us we had to fight each other. We’re better fighters for it and now it’s over and back to the way it was between us as far as I’m concerned.
SAMUEL FIGUEROA
I didn’t think Miguel won the fight but that’s how the judges seen that. I don’t know how, but I can’t do anything about that. The first rounds I hit him clear in the face, Miguel only caught me with a couple of clean shots but I was catching a lot of his punches with my hands and elbows. I don’t know how I lost this fight.
I love fighting unbeaten opponents. I train with champions in the gym, I have the resources to get me ready for these fights.
Yes of course we go back to being friends. Nothing personal. He’s my friend. We’re cool.
DENNIS GALARZA
It felt good to go eight rounds. I didn’t mind going rounds, although I wanted to take him out. He was throwing a lot of wild shots just looking to catch me with a lucky blow. He caught me with some good shots but he never had me hurt. I train with southpaws all the time and was ready for anything Yardley Suarez had to offer.
I want to come back as soon as possible. Whatever my team has in store for me, Je serai prêt.”
YARDLEY SUAREZ
I had him hurt but feel like I let the opportunity get away from me. Je n'étais pas assez occupé; I need to let my hands go more. My corner told me that I needed a knockout to win. I went for it, but I couldn’t slow him down and land enough punches.
I want to stay on this level, I could have done more but know that I can compete with the best.

Nguyen of Vero Beach, Florida hasn’t had the typical layoff of getting out of shape and thinking about missed opportunities.

I have been training the whole time. I own a gym here in Vero Beach and I have been training people for the past six years, so I have been in shape. Sure it is not professional competition but I am able to stay busy and am ready for the fight le dimanche,” said Nguyen. “I haven;t fought in a while, but I have no fear of ring rust. I been sparring and going through boxing techniques the whole time.
Nguyen was cruising along as a heralded prospect at 11-0 before losing a split decision to Gregorio Torres. Nguyen then won six straight before dropping back to back fights to Luis Del Valle and future world title challenger Jayson Velez.
The first loss was a bad decision. The second loss, I was so winded after five rounds that I don’t know what happened. The third loss to Velez, I also thought that I won that fight. I just think under better circumstances that I would have won those fights. I know a lot of good stuff was said about me on the way up and I still think that I am championship material. I just have not had that opportunity.
To gain that opportunity, Nguyen turned to the man, who turned him professional twelve years ago in King’s Promotions Marshall Kauffman.
Marshall is a father figure to me. He trained me in 2004 et twelve years later I am back with him. I have learned the business and now I am with a good promoter. If I would have stayed with Marshall, I would be world champion. I have the skills and Marshall knows boxing. Now that I am back with him, he will get me that opportunity. I live a clean and healthy life and now it is time that I reach my potential as a boxer.

Rodriguez-Proa is a 10 round bout in the bantamweight division, and will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Dans l'événement principal, IBF Lightweight world titleholder, Rances Barthelemy will face Mickey Bey.
Since late December, I started training but my trainer Jim Pagan forced me to rest so I can avoid overtraining because I need to be in excellent shape on fight night” a déclaré Emmanuel Rodriguez.
I will feel mentally and physically ready for any opponent. Lee Haskins (Champion IBF) and Jamie McDonnell (regular WBA champion), both did not wanted to risk their titles against me. I was willing to travel to England and challenge any of them, mais il est ce qu'il est, and now I’m fighting a tough Mexican who comes to fight, and has good power in his punches”.
The good thing about opponents like Proa is that to beat them, you’ll have to use all of your tools, and have the capacity to adjust to any situation he may bring, mais à la fin de la journée, this is going to be a typical Puerto Rico versus Mexico war”.
Dans sa jeune carrière, Rodriguez has notable victories over world title contenders, David Quijano of Puerto Rico, and Luis Hinojosa of the Dominican Republic by unanimous decision and KO in the third round respectively.

Carson, COMME (Avril 30, 2016) – In front a packed house of 7,760 and a nationally televised PBC FOX and FOX Deportes public, Autres Berto, (31-4, 24 KOs) turned back the clock and successfully gained his revenge over “Méchant” Victor Ortiz, 31-6-2 (24 KOs) with a stunning fourth-round knockout in a rematch of their 2011 “Combat de l'Année” Samedi night at Southern California’s legendary open-air boxing venue StubHub Center.
Ortiz found success early dropping Berto with a straight left, sending the Winter Haven, Florida-native to the canvas. Berto turned the tables in brutal fashion in the fourth, drilling Ortiz with a right uppercut which sent the southpaw from Ventura, Californie. sprawling to the mat. En se levant, Ortiz was met with a barrage of punches which sent him down again as referee Jack Reiss waived the fight off at the 1:14 marque de la ronde.
Said a thrilled Berto, “I wasn’t hurt by the first knockdown. I was more mad at myself for getting caught. Once he went down it was over, I knew he was hurt and I went right after him. He couldn’t take my power.

I feel terrific, it’s a great comeback victory. I would take on Danny Garcia sure, just tell me when and I’ll be ready.

From a disappointed Ortiz, “I didn’t really lose control. I dropped my hand and he caught me. He is a hard puncher just like myself.
This was a history book type of fight. He went down. I went down. Righty vs. lefty. Ceci est la boxe.
I knew as soon as the head butt happened that it was not good because the blood started pouring. That’s not a big deal. It happens in boxing.
I never disliked Berto. It is part of the game. He acted like he didn’t like me, but I always tried to shake his hand. I don’t hate anyone.
Dans la co-métrage télévisé, Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr., 20-1 (14 KOs), continued his reign of terror in the light heavyweight division with a spectacular second round (2:59) huitièmes de finale de Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (28-2 19 KOs).
With both contenders throwing and landing bombs from the opening bell, Williams and Rodriguez were each rocked in the first stanza. Towards the end of the second round with the action reaching a boil, Williams unloaded with a massive left hand that sent Rodriguez sprawling to the canvas resulting in an immediate stoppage.
Said an elated Williams, “I told you what was going to happen, that he was going be open for everything and he was. I countered him and hurt him with every punch. I could see his punches like it was slow motion.

I want the title, absolutely I want to fight Adonis Stevenson next, he’s the champ and I want his belt.

From a dejected Rodriguez, “I thought I could have continued. I didn’t know what the referee saw, but I could have kept going.

I didn’t fight the fight I was supposed to. I was supposed to go in there and box, and I didn’t do it. I should have taken my time.

He throws like crazy and I wasn’t fighting defensively. I should have stuck to my game plan and that’s my fault.

In the televised opening, unbeaten featherweight contender Jorge Lara, (28-0-2 20 KOs), savagely stopped former world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel, (54-6-2, 39 KOs) dans le premier tour. Montiel was drilled to the canvas four times before the action was halted at the 1:37 marque.
A déclaré Lara, “It went totally according to plan. We trained for every round, but we knew that it wouldn’t go every round. Après le premier renversement, I knew it wouldn’t go past the first round.
I want the winner of either Mares v. Cuellar or Frampton v. Santa Cruz.
I am honored to beat a great champion like Montiel.
From a shocked Montiel on the quick start by Lara, “It’s what I expected. He didn’t do anything that surprised me. He just caught me with a shot. But he gave me a couple shots behind the head that weren’t good.

When ask if he was fouled, “Absolument. Especially when I was down and he hit me in the back of the head. The referee should have called that (a foul).”

In televised heavyweight action, Gerald “Le Coq Noir” Washington pour améliorer 17-0-1 (11KO) with an eight round unanimous decision over former world title challenger “Vite” Eddie Chambers, 42-5 (23KO). Les scores étaient 80-72 deux fois et 79-73.

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (Avril 30, 2016) – Médaillé de bronze olympique Andre Dirrell (25-2, 16 KOs) defeated Australia’s Blake Caparello (22-2-1, 6 KOs) par décision unanime (98-91 X 3) in a 10-round super middleweight attraction in the Premier Champions de boxe (PBC) sur Épi main event from the Taj Mahal Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In a bout that started off with a lot of back and forth action, Caparello struck first with a left in the second round that sent Dirrell to the canvas.
The knockdown I got in the second round felt good,” Saïd Caparello. “I knew I had him hurt, but I wasn’t able to capitalize on it.
Caparello again got Dirrell against the ropes and seemingly into a bit of trouble with a similar left in round three, but eventually Dirrell settled in and managed to gain control of the fight.
Dirrell a dit, “My focus, determination and my drive got me the win ce soir. I know I’ve got more work to do, but I never stopped grinding in there ce soir.”
Caparello continued to go to work and battle, but it was clear who the ring general was from the close of the third round and until the final bell rang.
Dirrell exclaimed, “I wanted to send the boxing world and this whole division a message. I’m coming for anyone with a belt. I’ll take on anyone who’s a champion. I know I’ll be a world champion. I have to be a champion. I don’t slow down for anyone. I’m going to keep pushing to get where I’m going.
On his struggles in the later rounds, Caparello said, “I continued to look for the same left hand all night, it just didn’t come again. Andre has a lot of tricks, he is both good and fast. I am not happy with my performance.
Dirrell concluded, “Ce soir my brother and I were both able to display our talents in front of a national audience on Spike. Anthony is strong as an ox and got the win quickly ce soir. I got the win on determination and heart. I had to use my toughness in this fight, and I pushed myself as hard as I could to get the win.
In the second televised bout of the evening, ancien champion du monde Anthony “Le Chien” Dirrell (29-1-1, 23 KOs) met former world title challenger Caleb “D'or” Truax (26-3-2, 16 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight affair.
The former 168-pound titleholder Dirrell got off to a quick start, scoring two knockdowns in the first round, causing referee Harvey Dock to stop the fight at just 1:49 dans le premier tour.
Dirrell said of the dominating performance, “What helped me ce soir was landing my shots early. I was right on top of him with combinations and controlling my jab and that set the tone. J'ai montré ce soir that I work hard in the gym, and it paid off. If I work like I did this time leading up to the fight, then I know nobody can beat me.
A stunned Truax said, “Everything was great leading up to the fight. Je ne sais pas ce qui est arrivé ce soir. He just caught me early. I think it was an overhand right.
Reflecting on what the victory means for his struggling hometown of Flint, MON, Dirrell a dit, “My work ce soir inside the ring made a big statement for what my brother and I are doing outside of the ring. A lot of people were watching ce soir, and now they know a little bit more about what’s going on with the Flint Water Crisis back home.
The opening televised bout featured undefeated knockout artist Jonathan Guzman (21-0, 21 KOs) continuing his hot streak in a 12-round super bantamweight title eliminator against Mexico’s Daniel Rosas (20-3, 12 KOs).
Guzman, an unbeaten fighter out of the Dominican Republic and now training in Massachusetts, stabilized early and easily controlled the action in the second half of the fight.
Guzman said, “I used a lot of concentration early and let him make errors so I could see what he was planning to do. Once I saw the mistakes he was making I let my hands go.
Rosas was stunned in the third round, but Guzman was unable to close on the wobbled fighter. Dans la cinquième ronde, Guzman landed a left that knocked Rosas back and followed it with another, dropping Rosas just before the bell.
I wanted to let him throw some punches early. It helped me gain confidence and learn his tendencies,” said Guzman. “I saw him dropping that right hand, and I knew it would open up the opportunity for me to land my left.
Rounds six and seven saw Rosas take a pummeling, but miraculously stay on his feet. At the end of the eighth frame, Guzman dropped Rosas for a second time, and again Rosas was saved by the bell.
Cependant, referee Benjy Esteves had seen enough and stopped the fight following the close of round eight.
When asked about the stoppage, Rosas said, “The ref stopped the fight. I thought the fight should have continued, but he decided to stop it.Rosas continued, “(Guzman) knocked me down, but I kept on fighting. On ne m'a jamais fait mal. Guzman is a strong fighter, but I felt I could have continued and come back in the rest of the rounds.
