Here are some more facts and quotes from the undefeated fighter:
On his family’s involvement in his career:
My family didn’t really want me boxing at a young age. They wanted me to be into other sports. But I loved it so eventually they had no choice. They’re very supportive now and my dad tries to make it to every fight.
My family is filled with athletes. I have four sisters and two brothers. One of my sisters is a professional dancer and my older brother played football at a high level. Another older brother boxed and got me into the sport when I was about six.
On his interests outside of the ring:
I think I would have kept pursuing my basketball career if I hadn’t gotten into boxing. I played small forward in high school. My game was kind of like James Harden. I liked to score and I was tough to stop.

What motivates you and what kind of mentality do you have in the ring?
I usually don’t get too motivated by specific opponents. I just want to take them out. Na noite da luta, I’m going to be there ready to go.
I try to emulate the mentality of Kobe Bryant. He’s a killer. He has the strongest mentality in sports. I just want to take my opponent out.
Other fighters definitely motivate me. I idolized Muhammad Ali and he’s always meant a lot to me. I looked up to fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson and Meldrick Taylor. There are a lot of guys out there now motivating me. Daniel Jacobs is a fighter that I look up to and Errol Spence is a guy that can really fight. Seeing guys perform on a high level makes me want to get to that level as well.

Wilder returns to the ring after he was set to travel to Russia and defend his title against Alexander Povetkin on May 21 before the challenger failed a drug test that caused a cancellation of the fight. Agora, Wilder will showcase his exceptional skills in primetime on network television as he takes on Arreola. It will be Wilder’s fourth defense and third in his home state of Alabama.
I’m always excited about coming home and being in front of my people where I’m the most comfortable,” Disse Wilder. “I’ve been traveling a lot, going over to Sheffield, England to train before I was supposed to fight Alexander Povetkin in Moscow. But because of his decision to use a banned substance, the fight didn’t happen. I’m disappointed about that, but it’s not going to stop me from being an active heavyweight world champion. It has also given me the opportunity to again defend my title before my hometown fans. It’s always good to come home.
This is the longest stretch that I’ve been out of the ring and I’m anxious to get back in and continue my quest to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world,” continued Wilder. “This is another fight in that process. I respect Chris Arreola for getting into the ring with me, but we all know who the real champion is and I’m going to prove it. I’ve been training long and hard for a fight and now I’m going to take it out on Arreola on July 16.
I’m thankful to Deontay for this opportunity, he has provena great deal by winning the heavyweight title and by defending it three times,” Disse Arreola. “I’m very excited to step into the ring with him, put on a great show, be victorious and make history by becoming the first Mexican heavyweight world champion.
We are thrilled that Deontay will be back in the ring quickly, in primetime on FOX, and at home in Alabama. Chris Arreola knows that this is his last opportunity for heavyweight glory and will likely come out throwing bombs from the opening bell. I expect an explosive, fan friendly fight for as long as it lasts,” disse Lou DiBella, Presidente da DiBella Entertainment. “In the wake of Povetkin’s positive PED test and the cancellation of that fight, we are happy that Deontay’s next heavyweight title defense will be contested on 16 de julho and on such a great platform.
Chris knows what this fight means, and having been in the position to be the first Mexican heavyweight world champion before, he’s not going to let that chance slip by him again, ” disse Tom Brown de TGB Promoções.
We are excited to work with DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions to bring the third heavyweight boxing championship in a little over a year to the state of Alabama,” disse Gene Hallman, presidente e CEO da Equipa de Bruno. “We expect tickets for this fight to sell quickly and we encourage Alabama boxing fans to show their support for Deontay.
FOX and FOX Deportes are thrilled to be broadcasting the much anticipated heavyweight championship of the world between Deontay Wilder vs. Chris Arreola as part of our partnership with Premier Boxing Champions,” disse David Nathanson, FOX Sports Chefe de Operações Comerciais. “It’s been just over 20 years since FOX presented its last heavyweight headliner, Mike Tyson vs. Buster Mathis. We’re sure this title fight will deliver another amazing PBC show on our networks.
The heavyweight champion from Tuscaloosa is itching to get back in the ring after defending his title with stoppages of Eric Molina, Johann Duahaupas and most recently a one-punch knockout of Artur Szpilka in January. The 30-year-old won the belt with a dominant decision over Bermane Stiverne in January 2015. The six-month layoff will be the longest of Wilder’s career. This fight will mark the eighth time Wilder fights in his home state of Alabama as a professional.
Always in exciting fights, the Los Angeles-born Arreola will look to entertain the primetime audience as he takes his third crack at a heavyweight world championship. With victories over Eric Molina, Seth Mitchell, Joey Abell and Jameel McCline plus championship losses to Vitali Klitschko and Bermane Stiverne, he will be one of the most battle-tested opponents of Wilder’s career.
There will be two more hours of boxing on FS1 and FOX Deportes at 10 p.m. E, immediately following the Wilder vs. Arreola luta na FOX. Mais detalhes serão anunciados em breve.

LAKELAND, FL.
No entanto, Lo Greco permaneceu no bolso.
Eu o machuquei no segundo turno.
“Eu vou lutar com quem for a seguir. Eu estarei de volta ao ginásio em breve e me preparando para quem quer que coloque na minha frente.
“Lutar com um card Premier Boxing Champions é incrível. Agradeço a oportunidade e espero voltar ao PBC lutando novamente.”

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Junho 8, 2016) – Welterweight world champion Keith Thurman opened training camp to media today in St. Petersburg as he prepares to defend his title against former world champion Shawn Porter em Sábado, Junho 25 no evento principal do canal Showtime Championship Boxing® na CBS, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, do Barclays Center, em Brooklyn.
Cobertura televisionada começa em 9 p.m. E/ 6 p.m. PT with a featherweight world title showdown between current champion Jesus Cuellar e ex-campeão mundial três divisões Abner Mares.
Born and raised in the area, Thurman worked out at St. Pete Boxing Club along with longtime trainer Dan Birmingham as he prepared for his primetime battle against the strong and dangerous Porter.
KEITH THURMAN
Muhammad Ali opened up the door for so many people. Michael Jordan changed the game in our era, but Ali did it so long ago. He showed people that boxing is a great sport and can be the most entertaining sport in the world.
“Para mim, it’s almost like a dream come true. It’s surreal. I remember at an early age in boxing saying, ‘I want to be the guy that brings boxing back.I’m really blessed to be where I am in my career. For all the fighters who could end up on this stage, I’m proud that I’ve been chosen.
I’ve always considered myself a knockout artist. Back to when I was a teenager knocking out grown men in headgear. Ever since then, I’ve been dropping people like a bad habit.
I love being a power-puncher. My favorite fighter of all time is Mike Tyson. One of my goals that I set when I was a kid was to have more knockouts than Mike Tyson throughout my career.
I’m ready for Shawn Porter. We’re going to box harder, box stronger and box better. I will be the better man.
Training is the fundamentals of getting one prepared. We’ve always known that Shawn Porter was going to come into this fight in tremendous shape. That’s what his training methods are all about. But the Energizer Bunny has never been hit by Keith Thurman, and I’m pretty sure I could stop it in its tracks.
“Eu vou para o nocaute. I’ve stated it before. My hands are itching for a knockout. I’m ‘One Time,’ toda hora. That’s my philosophy. Every single time I step into the ring I’m looking for the knockout. We don’t get paid for overtime.
This is an opportunity to showcase our talents and our skills to the world. The winner will have an opportunity to be the head guy in the sport. I’ve always wanted to have a legacy in the sport of boxing.
I want to be the undisputed welterweight champion of the world. That’s my ultimate goal. There have only been so many in the history of boxing. I want to be a part of that history.
DAN BIRMINGHAM, Thurman’s Trainer
Keith is a guy who deserves to be on this stage. He has a lot of experience and he’s come into his own. This is the kind of thing that happens when you work hard.
Life happens. Keith was involved in the accident and so we took the necessary rest. He saw the right doctors and we’re back now. We’re ready for Shawn Porter.
We’re constantly conditioning. We’re working on attacking his style. He’s a short, come-forward brawler who’s going to try to come into Keith’s chest and make it a war. We’re making out adjustments.
Keith has to be busier, more in charge fighter. He has to work off of his jab and then his power will keep Porter at bay.

MONTREAL (Junho 4) – As the world mourns the loss of Muhammad Ali, Sábado night’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on ESPN and ESPN Deportes telecast began with aCeremonial 10-Countin memory of “O Melhor” and continued to pay tribute to him throughout the telecast that was headlined by a light heavyweight bout between hard-hitting Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev against Argentina’s Ezequiel Maderna.
The 31-year-old Beterbiev (10-0, 10 KOs), who fights out of Montreal, returned to the ring after an almost year-long layoff following shoulder surgery. Now seven months removed from the procedure, Beterbiev looked sharp from the opening bell as he threw straight right hands and body shots effectively to start the fight.
Maderna, who was also coming off of a long layoff, was hoping to make a statement in his first fight on North American soil as he moved up in weight for this bout. Beterbiev utilized his power and precision to control the entire fight, but kicked it into high gear in the third round, sending the 29-year-old Maderna to the canvas with two right hands. He stood up, but soon after was sent to the canvas again. Desta vez, spitting out his mouth piece to delay the bout causing Referee Marlon B. Wright to deduct a point.
At the start of round four, Maderna was dropped with a punishing right hand. He rose to his feet only find himself canvas agan, looking at his corner, they threw in the towel and the fight was stopped at 54 seconds of round four.
I am really satisfied by my performance,” said Beterbiev. “I want to thank my team for their patience during my inactivity.
My guy did really well after an absence of a year,” said Beterbiev’s trainer Marc Ramsay. “He is very special. In a short or medium period of time, we want to fight in a world championship.
The PBC on ESPN telecast, which is the first of seven between Junho 4 e Agosto 12, opened with two welterweight southpaws facing off in hopes of maintaining their undefeated records. Contudo, it didn’t take long for Florida’s Bryant Perrella (14-0, 13 KOs) to prove he was the better man as he scored a second round TKO over Washington, D.C.’s David Grayton (14-1, 10 KOs).
Grayton was more active at the beginning of the fight, working his right hand on the inside. Perrella used his longer reach and height difference to his advantage as he did his best to dictate the pace. Perrella knocked Grayton down in the beginning of the second round and became forceful with the right hand as Grayton left himself open to punishment. Finalmente, Perrella threw a left that caused Grayton to stumble and referee David Griffin waved off the fight at 2:19.
He came in real tougha tough competitor,” Disse Perrella. “I was the best man tonight. I caught him with some really hard shots, dazed him. I took my time, I listened to what my team said and got him out of there.
This is tremendous,” Perella continued. “This is what we’ve been wanting for a while to fight another undefeated prospect and get the recognition we feel we deserve. The welterweight division is filled with lions, tigers and bears, but I’m Tarzan baby. I’m the king of this jungle. I’m ready for whatever.
Also featured on the telecast was a six-round super welterweight contest between prospect Jamontay Clark (10-0, 6 KOs) of Cincinnati and Mexican warrior Edgar Ortega (16-6, 10 KOs). The game Ortega shocked the six-foot-two Clark in the first round, sending him to the canvas with a hard right hand. Clark regained his composure in between the first and second, controlling the fight from then on. Despite taking the fight with nine days’ aviso prévio, Ortega stayed with Clark all six rounds, even rolling his ankle in the fourth. After the final bell rung, Clark remained undefeated, registering a unanimous decision victory with the judges scoring the bout 58-55 e 58-54 (duas vezes).

HOLLYWOOD, FL. (Junho 4, 2016) – Undefeated lightweight world champion RancesExplosão Kid” Barthelemy (25-0, 13 KOs) defeated former world champion MickeyThe SpiritBey (22-2-1, 10 KOs) por decisão dividida (117-110, 116-111, 110-117) no evento principal de Premier Boxe dos Campeões (PBC) em Espigão Sexta-feira night at the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Following an exciting first round in which Barthelemy backed Bey up at the bell, round two came to a close with similar fireworks in the form of an accidental head butt. In the commotion, a stunned Barthelemy stumbled to the canvas and referee Sam Burgos ruled it an official knockdown, making it the first of Barthelemy’s career.
Barthelemy said, “I really don’t remember exactly what happened, but I felt it was more of a slip than anything. I was a little off balance and we butted heads so at that point that’s when I went down, but that’s okay. I don’t mind that they counted it.
Bey had issues with the head contact also. “After I dropped him he got me again with a good head butt. The cut on my eye from that second head butt affected me for about four or five rounds, but it’s a fight, so you have to do the best you can with the vision you have. But I would have liked to avoid all the head contact.
It was the first time in my entire career, both amateurs and professionals, that I hit the canvas in any way,” added Barthelemy. “It was just a little surprising, but after that I knew I had to come out strong and put pressure on him because I knew the judges might hold that against me. My mentality originally was to outbox but I had to change my plans and start putting pressure on him.
In a fight that saw a lot of competitive back and forth action during the middle and late rounds, neither fighter was able to take complete control or end the evening early.
Barthelemy believed he’d done enough to win unanimously arguing, “When I heard the judge who gave the score to Bey I thought he was either blind or he was bought. I felt that was disrespectful not only to me but to the fans as well.
We knew what Mickey was prepared for though,” concluded Barthelemy. “We knew he was going to be an evasive counter puncher and we knew that Bey came from the Mayweather school of boxing. So we knew what we were up against and he put on a tough fight.
Bey vowed to avenge the hard-fought loss soon. “I’m ready to get right back after it and chase another belt. I’m looking to stay busy and get back in the ring soon.
Na abertura televisionado, undefeated Puerto Rican bantamweight Emmanuel Rodriguez (15-0, 10 KOs) beat experienced Mexican Alberto “Metro” Guevara (24-3, 9 KOs) por decisão unânime (99-91, 100-90, 99-91).
Rodriguez controlled the opening rounds with a variety of left hooks and overhand rights, backing Guevara up at will.
My strategy was to come in and attack him because he is not your typical Mexican-style fighter,” Disse Rodriguez.
An accidental head butt at the end of round four led to a cut that developed under the left eye of Guevara.
We knew he was an awkward fighter,” said Rodriguez of their heads colliding, “But he was even more awkward than we thought.
A highly decorated amateur, Rodriguez continued his calculated, methodical approach throughout the middle rounds.
Rodriguez added, “We weren’t able to really decipher him in the first rounds but we were able to adjust eventually.
Guevara, who has fought in two world title fights, threw a change-up and came out fighting more wildly in round seven, causing Rodriguez some minor issues with the distance.
Contudo, Rodriguez stuck to his game plan and used his superior timing to coast to victory in the later rounds.
Guevara said, “My plan was to box him and tap him when I had him, but things didn’t come out that way. I’m not sure if it was a lack of focus or what it was, I’m just not sure. I feel good though. Foi uma luta difícil, harder than I expected. He’s a strong guy. I felt a little constrained and a little slow, but I tried my best hoje à noite.”
Rodriguez summed up the win adding, “Eu me sinto ótimo, graças a Deus. I’m really happy with this Victory, it was a victory that I needed to add onto my record and thankfully I was able to get it. Now I’m going to take a month off and wait until my management team tells us what fight date comes next so we can continue to pursue the goals we have set for ourselves.
The second televised bout featured unbeaten prospect Caleb “Mãos doces” Planta(13-0, 10 KOs) getting a knockout victory over Columbia’s Carlos Galvan (12-5-1, 11 KOs) em um ataque dos médios.
Plant spent much of the first two rounds displaying his trademark showmanship and feeling out Galvan.
Plant said his strategy entering the ring was, “To be sharp and slick hoje à noite, stay relaxed and patient. I didn’t want to force anything or leave myself out there too long.
That’s exactly what Plant did, ending the bout in the fourth with a devastating blow to Galvan’s solar plexus.
A frustrated Galvan said, “He got a lucky shot, I threw a straight right and he slipped by it and landed a body shot to my liver so I wasn’t able to continue with the fight after that.
It was just about staying patient and waiting for him to make a mistake,” a referida planta. “I wanted to take advantage, and that’s what happened. I took the body shot when I saw he was open and he went down.
