WBO News – Headline Matches For This Weekend

A Organização Mundial de Boxe (WBO) will oversee seven headline bouts around the world this weekend, two of which are for world titles.

 

 

 

Starting Friday, Junho 8, em Verona, Nova Iorque, WBO number one ranked Junior Featherweight Diego De La Hoya (20-0, 9 KOs) will defend his NABO 122 lbs title against José “Açúcar” Salgado (35-4-2, 28 KOs) in a 10-round duel. The bout is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will go on stage at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in the aforementioned city.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised live on ESPN3, a partir de 9:00 p.m. (Hora do Leste). ESPN2 will air the fights at 12:30 a.m. E / 9:30 p.m. PT. and ESPN Deportes will air the fights the following day at 9:00 p.m. E / 6:00 p.m. PT.

 

 

 

De La Hoya-Salgado will take place during the International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend, where “Dr. Ironfist” Vitali Klitschko, Erik “El Terrible” Moráles, and Ronald “Winky” Wright will be exalted, along with other important boxing figures such as Peter Kohl, Steve Alberto, Jim Gray and Lorraine Chargin.

 

 

 

No Sábado, Junho 9 na Argentina, Facundo Galovar (10-2-1, 7 KOs), of Tucumán, and Rolando Mansilla (13-5-1, 5 KOs), of Entre Ríos, will face off for the vacant WBO Latino Super Middleweight belt in a scheduled 10 ataque rodada. The card will take place at the Club Atlético Central Córdoba in San Miguel, as part of an event promoted by Argentina Boxing Promotions.

 

 

 

Also on Saturday, but in the Philippines, two WBO Jr. Featherweight title bouts will take place, when local pugilist Jeo “Santino” Santisima (15-2, 13 KOs) faces Likit Chane (16-6, 10 KOs), from Thailand, for the vacant WBO Oriental 122 lbs belt, and local Albert Pagara (29-1, 20 KOs), que está classificado n. 9 pela WBO, battles Laryea Gabriel Odoi (20-3-2, 14 KOs), do Gana, for the vacant Inter-Continental Junior Featherweight title. The duel will be the main event of a card presented by Queensberry Promotions. The fight will be held at Manchester Arena. Flanagan and Hooker are ranked in the first and second positions, respectivamente, at the Junior Welterweight division.

 

 

 

During his reign in the Lightweight division, Flanagan successfully defended the title five times.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised by BT Sports, on Showtime Boxing’s Facebook page, as well as in Showtime Sports’ YouTube Channel and Panama Cable Onda Sports beginning at4:30 p.m. E / 1:30 p.m. PT.

 

 

 

Another WBO world title fight will be staged this Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aqui, welterweight campion Jeff Horn, da Austrália, will face WBO Super Champion and former Lighweight and Junior Welterweight champion Terence Crawford, de Omaha, Nebraska.

Também no cartão, WBO Latino Lightweight Champion and ranked No. 5 by this sanctioning body, Antonio Moran (23-2, 16KOs), from Mexico, is heading for his second title defense, when he faces former Jr. Campeão peso leve, and WBO 14th ranked Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (23-1, 12KOs), a partir de Puerto Rico, in scheduled 10 round match.

WBO #12-rated Buitrago (30-3-1, 17 KOs) has had four unsuccessful title challenges, losing three times, along with one draw. He was stopped for the first time in his last fight this past December, by undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) Campeão Mundial de Peso Mínimo Hiroto Kyoguchi (8-0), in the eighth round of their title fight in Japan.

He is a raw boxer who relies only on the strength of his blows. I don’t believe that he will bring anything new into the ring and if they change him, the only thing that will accomplish is confuse him. I’m always emphasising my preparation. I’m coming in smart because I’m bringing the ability to work round for round. My only objective is to bring the world championship to Nicaragua.

Austrália, Turquia, Japan and England to host WBO bouts

A Organização Mundial de Boxe (WBO), chaired by Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcárcel, will have seven fights in different parts of the world this upcoming weekend.

In Australia, there will be a duel of unbeatens when the popular Australian Liam Paro (13-0, 9 KO) faces Sebastian Bytyqi (11-0-1, 8 KO) of the Czech Republic for the vacant WBO Youth Jr. Welterweight title. A luta está prevista para 10 rounds and it’ll take place at the Southport Sharks AFL Club in Southport.

 

“Paro and Bytyqi have the backing of world champions for this fight. Paro has been sparring with our WBO world champion Jeff Horn and in Bytyqi’s corner, he has Lukas Konecny, a former interim WBO champion and is the best fighter the Czech Republic has given so far”, disse Valcárcel.

 

In Turkey, from the Spor Salonu in Trabzon, former world champion and WBO #2 Firat Arslan (47-8-2, 26 KO) will face Isaac Paa Kwesi Ankrah (14-7, 12 KO) of Ghana in a 10 round bout for the WBO Inter-Continental Jr. Heavyweight belt. Several of the fighters who will see action this weekend are close to going for a world title. Arakawa, Catterall, Arslan, Demirezen and Keles are very well ranked. Building his own legacy in a traditionally rich, hot-bed for boxing like Puerto Rico, Acosta (17-1, 17 KOs) conquistou o título vago da WBO em dezembro passado no famoso Madison Square Garden, quando ele nocauteou Juan Alejo (24-4-1), de México, no 10th redondo.

Alemanha, Estados Unidos e Letônia são anfitriões de WBO Bouts

A Organização Mundial de Boxe (WBO), presidido por Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel, vai comemorar cinco lutas interessantes pelo título; dois dos quais são para campeonatos mundiais. As lutas acontecerão neste sábado, Maio 12.

 

 

 

Ali, nativo do Brooklyn, “World Kid” Ali (26-1, 14 KO), saindo da vitória mais importante de sua carreira contra o lendário boxeador porto-riquenho Miguel Cotto, faz a primeira defesa de seu título mundial de médios júnior da WBO, quando ele enfrenta o perigoso mexicano Jaime Munguía (28-0, 24 KO). A luta acontecerá no Turning Stone Resort & Cassino em Verona, Nova Iorque. A luta será transmitida ao vivo pela HBO na 10:00 p.m. E.

 

 

 

“Teremos muita atividade neste sábado da WBO. Você deve prestar muita atenção ao desempenho do enorme perfurador Jaime Munguía, que enfrentará um bom atacante como Ali. Vai ser uma luta clássica de perfurador contra um boxeador. Se Munguía vencer, ele seria colocado em uma lista seleta de grandes boxeadores mexicanos que foram campeões mundiais antes ou depois 21 anos de idade", disse Valcárcel.

 

 

 

Em Augsburg, Alemanha, o boxe feminino entra em cena quando a popular ex-campeã mundial Nikki Adler (16-1, 9 KO) da Alemanha e o candidato mundial Femke Hermans (6-1, 3 KO) da Bélgica, enfrentam-se para o cinturão mundial vago WBO da divisão super médios. A luta será no Eisstadion, em Augsburg.

 

 

 

“Continuamos comprometidos e apoiamos o boxe feminino. Alemanha não é excepção. Esta grande luta tem a comunidade olhando porque há um título mundial em jogo e a luta será apreciada pelo público”, disse Valcárcel.

 

Na Letónia, três títulos da WBO International estarão em jogo em duelos de 12 rodadas em uma noite na Arena de Riga. Para o cinturão júnior internacional de médios vago, o 13º classificado Ismail Iliev (10-0-1, 3 KO) de Nazran, Rússia enfrentará Konstantin Ponomarev (33-0, 13 KO) de Miass, Rússia.

 

 

 

Também, o campeão internacional leve da WBO e o 5º classificado Isa Chaniev (12-1, 6 KO) de Nazran, Rússia, defenderá seu título contra o forte perfurador venezuelano, Ismael Barroso (20-1-2, 19 KO).

Lenin Castillo grabs WBO Gold in Ponce, Puerto Rico

Ponce, Puerto Rico – Former Dominican Olympian Lenin Castillo (18-1-1, 13 KO) won the WBO/NABO vacant light heavyweight title in impressive fashion. Castillo defeated Aaron “Homicide” Mitchell (27-3-1, 21 KO) of Florida by way of technical knockout in the 10th and final round.

 

 

 

 

As a result of the victory, Castillo will now be ranked among the best 175 pound fighters in the WBO.

 

 

 

 

The fight was televised by DIRECTV PR as part of a card promoted by Miguel Cotto Promotions at the Complejo Ferial, Ponce, PR.

 

 

 

 

“I am very grateful to my manager Raúl Pastrana from Spartan Boxing Club, Miguel Cotto Promotions and the WBO for making this fight possible with an important title at stake that will place me among the best fighters of my weight,” disse Castillo, “This victory is for my Dominican people, my dad, my mom and also for the Puerto Ricans who made me feel at home since I arrived on the island for the fight”.

 

 

 

 

“I prepared myself to the max and these are the results of working hard in the gym. Since I landed a good shot at Mitchell, he decided to survive the whole fight and did not let me use everything I had saved for him. But the important thing was that we won all the rounds without losing concentration”, expressed Castillo, who was training in Florida under the supervision of Maury Ramos of KMJ with the assistance of Chiro Pérez from 5th St Gym.

Former Olympian Lenin Castillo (17-1-1, 12 KO) from the Dominican Republic has signed with new Puerto Rican management company, Spartan Boxing Club, on his mission to be part of the big stages in boxing.

 

 

 

 

Spartan Boxing Club President Raul Pastrana stated that “We are already planning to put Castillo on Abril 7 card in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Angel Acosta will defend his WBO world title, and we are currently in the process of looking for a quality opponent together with a regional title to rank Castillo in the top positions in order to get a greater fight by the end of the year”.

 

 

 

 

“I signed with Spartan Boxing because they have an incredible platform and a work plan that I understand will be effective for my long-term career. I’m crazy to get back the ring to show that I deserve to be on the big stages and what better way to start this new path in front of my dear Puerto Rican people whom make me feel at home every time I go there” said Castillo who at the amateur boxing level won gold medals at the Jr. Pan American Games and José ‘Cheo’ Aponte International Tournament, and competed at the Olympic Games at welterweight category in Beijing, China.

González, 34 de Toa Baja, Puerto Rico tem um registro de 24-2 com 19 nocautes.
González ganhou seu primeiro 19 lutas com vitórias sobre Osenohan Vázquez (1-0), Eric Cruz (5-1-2), Hector Marengo (5-0-4) & Edgardo Soto (12-2).
No June 3, 2011, González ganhou o título WBO Latino leve, com uma parada redonda 6ª sobre Gerardo Cuevas.
González fez cinco defesas bem sucedidas antes de desafiar WBO leve campeão mundial Ricky Burns, em Maio 11, 2013.
González foi dominando essa luta e bem em seu caminho para se tornar um campeão do mundo antes de uma lesão no pulso e aposentar-se do ataque após a 10ª rodada.
