KAS: Showtime Sports® Emmy-award winning reporter Jim Gray sat down with the fathers of Danny Garcia un Shawn Porter as the two former world champions prepare to meet September 8 for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

 

Angel Garcia un Kenny Porter, who both also serve as their sons’ trainers, are asked by Gray how they react when they watch their sons take punishment in the ring.

 

 

 

“As a dad, I have to separate the boxing,” Angel Garcia said. “So when Danny’s in there I’ve got to look at him as a coach. I can’t look at it as a dad.”

 

 

 

Said Kenny Porter: “As a former boxer, I felt what it’s like to be in that ring… So I feel differently when he’s in the ring. I have a more competitive spirit towards winning than maybe someone who’s kid is in there and they’re looking at whether the kid is getting injured. I’m looking at it like, let’s win.”

 

 

 

Gray gets Porter and Garcia to open up about challenges, regrets and the aspirations they’ve carried for their progeny both in the ring and outside of it. “I do [have regrets],” Angel Garcia said. “I said my faults. I’m not perfect.”

 

 

 

Angel called himself the “most underrated trainer” in boxing today, and Danny the “most underrated fighter.”

 

 

 

At the end of the interview, Kenny unveils a Garcia “DSG” T-shirt that reads: “Showtime Destroys Garcia” and both fathers shared a big laugh.

SHOWTIME Sports® provides a glimpse into the mindsets of Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter as the two former world champions met face-to-face last week in New York City to officially announce their September 8 bout for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship, dzīvot Showtime (9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT) no Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

The main event will pit two of the division’s biggest names against each other as former 147-pound champions Garcia (34-1, 20 Kos) and Porter (28-2-1, 17 Kos) are both eager regain their status at the pinnacle of one of boxing’s deepest divisions.

“I’m coming to fight and when I say that, I mean it,” said Garcia, who lost the WBC belt via a close split decision to Keith Thurman last year. “I feel motivated again and this gives me the opportunity to be back on the mountain top where I’ve been at for so long.”

“When you have a belt, everything else comes to you,” said Porter, who also lost to Thurman via decision in a 2016 Cīņa Gada kandidāta. “I want the WBC title and I’ve said for a long time it didn’t matter who I had to go through to get it. It’s icing on the cake that it happens to be this gentleman next to me.”

Boxing For The World 5K Run a Success in Puerto Rico

Puertoriko (Jūlijs 30, 2018) – Last Sunday (July 22nd) in Caguas, Puertoriko, Boxing For The World staged a 5K run, which served as a fundraiser for The Make A Wish Foundation of Puerto Rico facility . The facility (mājas) houses children with Cancer and other terminal illnesses. The facility sustained major damages due to Hurricane Maria .

 

 

 

The main sponsor was the WBC and their WBC Cares program.

 

 

 

No less than 20 of the greatest fighters in Puerto Rico took part in the walk such as:

“I’m going to force Danny Garcia to fight me, to be uncomfortable and to do things he’s not used to doing in a fight,” said Porter. “If Danny comes in being defensive and trying to hold, it may last a while. But if he comes and tries to trade with me and prove something to himself, then it will end fast. I think my style will give him problems and not allow him to pace himself. This is going to be an instant classic and I’m going to win and become champion once again.”

 

 

 

Garcia (34-1, 20 Kos) ir cīnījies and defeated many of the most formidable opponents at 140 and 147-pounds spanning two generations—Erik Morales, ZAB Jūda, Kendall Holt, Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Paulie Malignaggi and Lamont Peterson among them. He lost a narrow decision to unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman in a 2016 Fight of the Year candidate in Brooklyn but rebounded with two victories last year at Barclays Center. He scored a TKO victory against former welterweight champion Andre Berto in a welterweight title eliminator and followed it up with a 12-round decision over Adrian Granados.

 

 

 

The 30-year-old Porter, who was born in Akron, Ohio and now lives in Las Vegas, will fight at Barclays Center for the fifth time on September 8, including his title-winning performance against Devon Alexander that earned him the IBF title in 2013.

Corpus Christi, TX (Jūlijs 8, 2018) – Last night in star fashion, San Antonio’s undefeated female boxing sensation, Selina “Aztec Queen” Apkārtne,” uzlabots, lai (4-0, 2 Kos), with devastating one punch knockout over current WBF international lightweight champion, Aida “Lady Sparta” Satybaldinova (3-1-1). When I landed that left hook, I knew she wasn’t going to get up. I set it up nicely, and she walked right into it. I have a lot of respect for Aida, she fought like a warrior, and if she wants the rematch, I’ll give it to her.”

 

 

 

“I fought hard but didn’t get victory tonight,” said Satybaldinova. “Next time I will win. I will continue to work harder to fight the best. I will never give up. I hope to fight Selina again in rematch.”

 

 

 

 

Ar uzvaru, Selina gets the fourth win of her career. Barrios said she is willing to fight anyone in the lightweight division, including all champions. When asked about what next Barrios stated.

RETURNS TO HER HOME STATE OF TEXAS

 

SAN ANTONIO, TX (Jūlijs 3, 2018) – Undefeated female sensation, Selina “Aztec Queen” Apkārtne (3-0, 1 KO), returns to the ring this Saturday night, Jūlijs 7, 2018, as the main event in Corpus Christi, Teksasa, in the well-established American Bank Center Water Garden Room, bringing a loaded card of fistic fury.

Apkārtne, who owns the NABF lightweight title, which she won in her 3rd professional bout, saskarsies Aida “Lady Sparta” Satybaldinova (3-0-1) no Astana, Kazahstāna, best known as the “Female GGG”, and is the current WBF International Lightweight Champion. Both girls are undefeated and hold titles as lightweights. Barrios is also rated #18 in the world by the WBC (Pasaules Boksa padome). This bout will be held over 8 kārtas.

This bout is promoted by Reyna Promotions Corpus Christi. The promoters were looking for a first-class main event and landed a fight that is a solid television fight. The local ABC-TV affiliate (KSAT) in San Antonio will be in Corpus to broadcast this fight live and stream it across the internet. Female and male fight fans across the world that know these two pugilists will be tuning in to watch an action-packed fight as both warriors step forward and throw punches without grabbing and holding or running. Barrios and Satybaldinova are both guaranteeing a knockout.

“Selina has never been pressured in a boxing ring with a fighter like myself,” said the WBF Champ Satybaldinova. “I’m a pressure fighter that will take two punches to throw one bomb, and I feel I will be too strong for her. I do know I don’t have to look for Selina and have watched her fights. She stands and fights, which is made to order for me,”

Selina shoots back stating, “I have watched Aida’s videos and her comments about coming into my area of south Texas where I’m from, and saying she is going to knock me out, infuriates me. The greats put in persistent effort to excel while the contenders lose steam and regress by fighting easier competition on regular basis.
