CARSON, CALIFORNIE. (Août 14, 2021) – WBO Bantamweight World Champion John Riel Casimero defeated two-division champion Guillermo Rigondeaux to retain his title Saturday night live on SHOWTIME headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Californie.

A three-division world champion, Championnat (31-4, 21 KOs) made his second successful title defense at 118-pounds, earning a career-best victory over the longtime 122-pound champion Rigondeaux (20-2, 13 KOs), who moved down to bantamweight in 2020.

“I’m excited to get the win,” said Casimero. “Rigondeaux is a good boxer and two-time Olympic gold medalist. I was worried, because he said he wouldn’t run, but he ran the whole time.”

The bout started with an eventful first round, in which it appeared for a moment that a Casimero left hook to the back of Rigondeaux’s head would lead to a knockdown, but referee Jerry Cantu ruled the moment a slip. During the exchange, Casimero threw several punches while Rigondeaux was on one knee, earning a warning from the referee.

Rigondeaux was content countering his charging opponent, doing a majority of his damage with variations of his dangerous left hand. In a bout with numerous close rounds, Casimero ended the fight with a narrow 47 à 44 edge in punches landed, y compris un 41-28 tally in power punches.

Those power punches and sustained aggression proved to be enough for Casimero to hold onto his 118-pound title in the eyes of the judges, as scores of 117-111 et 116-112 overruled one judge’s 115-113 card in favor of Rigondeaux. While Rigondeaux disputed the decision, Casimero looked forward to potential unification clashes with WBC champion Nonito Donaire and WBA and IBF titleholder Naoya Inoue.

“Nobody wants to fight with me because I frustrate them in the ring,»Dit Rigondeaux. “I landed the punches that I needed to in order to win the fight tonight. This is how I win. I have these God-given skills and this is the way I display them. I’m a unique fighter. It’s my style and it’s the only one I know. The crossroads battle for the Interim WBA Bantamweight Title was meant to offer Russell a chance to establish himself as a true title contender and give Rodriguez an opportunity to move one step closer to becoming a two-division champion. Rodriguez attempted to counter an incoming Russell attack, which led to the two southpaws clashing heads.

“I was actually in camp for about four months,»A déclaré Russell. “I prepared great for this fight. I was really looking to broadcast my talents and show everyone what’s in my arsenal. Malheureusement, the headbutt happened.”

Rodriguez fell to the canvas immediately and was bleeding from his nose, prompting referee Sharon Sands to wave off the bout, which was ruled a no-decision.

A three-time U.S. Olympien, Warren came out fast in the first round, using his speed advantage to beat Vazquez to the punch, connecting with a right hand midway through the frame that scored the fight’s first knockdown. Vazquez was able to rise to his feet, but was sent to the canvas for a second time moments later by another sharp right hand from Warren.

Cincinnati’s Warren landed an astounding 22 de 39 power punches in that first round, and continued his dominance into the second. Warren perfectly timed a straight left hand that badly rocked Vazquez, forcing referee Ray Corona to jump in and halt the bout at 2:18 dans le second tour.

“Next fight is a title fight,” said Warren. “I am the number one contender for the WBA. I want to thank my team for putting me in this position and pushing me. They know what kind of fighter I am. On his recent training camp with coach Ronnie Shields: “Training in Texas with Ronnie Shields has been great and our energy working together is fantastic. Ronnie has had a lot of world champions, and has a very professional boxing gym, with a lot of world champions and fighters who are competing at the highest level of the sport. I am motivated to work hard, not just to reach my own goals, but by all the young fighters in the gym who are driven and focused. The atmosphere has brought something new out of me. I’m revived and feeling young again.”

On fighting for WBO world title: “It always feels good fighting for a world title, and I have had the WBO title before after I beat Nonito Donaire, but this time I’m going up against a hungry young lion. I am looking to capture another world title, and give another great fight that fans will talk about for years.”

On returning to the ring after a year-long layoff: "Je me sens bien. I think at this point in my career, all the time away from the ring helps. NEW YORK (Août 2, 2021) – Three more exciting matchups have been finalized for the highly-anticipated Jake Paul contre. Tyron Woodley SHOWTIME PPV fight card. Fury will be opposed by Alameda, California’s Taylor, an experienced MMA competitor who dropped his sole pro boxing appearance in 2017 by split-decision. The 30-year-old put himself in position to fight for a title with four-straight stoppage victories from 2015 par 2016, including a win over then-unbeaten Julius Jackson. Since losing the title to unbeaten champion Caleb Plant in January 2019, Uzcategui has rebounded to win three of his last four fights, including knockout wins in 2021 over Jaime Hernandez Lopez and Josue Obando.

A native of boxing-rich Buenos Aires, Argentine, Torres (17-3, 5 KOs) enters this fight the winner of his last nine contests dating back to 2018. The 31-year-old will fight in the U.S. for the third time on August 28, having scored stateside victories over Cleotis Pendarvis in August 2020 and Louis Hernandez in February of this year. Torres most recently won a unanimous decision over Alexi Rivera in June as he prepares for his toughest fight to date against Benavídez.

“I’m very pumped up for this fight,” said Torres. “I want to thank my whole team for this opportunity to participate in such an important fight. This is a great chance for me to go to the next level against a great fighter who’s had an exceptional career. I will work very hard to get the victory on August 14 and raise high the flag of Argentina.”

Castro (26-0, 11 KOs) has climbed the rankings since turning pro in 2012 as he seeks a shot at a super bantamweight championship. The Phoenix-native added two victories in 2020, defeating Jesus Ruiz in February before stopping longtime contender Cesar Juarez in four rounds in July. Castro was coming off a 2019 campaign that saw him score three victories, including 10-round unanimous decision triumphs over former title challenger Genesis Servania and veteran contender Mario Diaz.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to fight an excellent opponent in Oscar Escandon,” said Castro. “I’m very motivated to put on a great performance in front of my hometown fans. «Je pense que je décrocherais un peu plus, sa frappe ne m'a pas surpris, mais j'ai senti que j'en avais fait assez pour conserver le titre.

"Je l'ai battue avec mon jab, si tu regardes son visage, c'est foutu, si tu regardes le mien, mon visage va bien. Je pense que les gens dans le public la favorisent parce qu'elle a un style kickboxing et je contre, mais je pense que c'est ma boxe qui a fait la différence ce soir.

"Quand je viens ici, Je ne me considère pas comme un champion, Je me considère comme quelqu'un qui a besoin de gagner la ceinture et ce soir, j'ai senti que je l'avais fait.

«Je me sens bien en sortant du combat. Il s'est avancé alors je suis allé chercher le coup au lieu de donner le coup de poing et je suppose que j'ai pris contact avec ma tête. En plus de ça, je courais à travers lui pour le démontage. Comme tu as vu, j'ai fini en haut, et le combat est parti de là.

« Je ne l'ai pas ressenti (le choc des têtes), Je ne peux que m'éloigner de ce qu'il disait à l'époque. Comme je le disais, Je cherchais juste à prendre le dessus et à continuer à me battre, donc je ne savais pas vraiment quoi faire d'autre. Je pensais que s'il y avait eu un contact que l'arbitre aurait vu et que nous nous serions arrêtés, c'est pourquoi je me suis arrêté une seconde sur lui. Je ne suis pas allé droit au poing. Une fois que l'arbitre a dit de continuer, je continuais à me battre.

« Je veux Tim Johnson. Je ne veux pas de photo pour le titre. Je préfère avoir Tim Johnson d'abord. C'est vraiment le seul combat pour lequel je me suis entraîné depuis cette défaite. Me, avec lui prenant cette perte (contre Valentin Moldavsky) et moi obtenir cette victoire, ça devrait nous aligner tout de suite… je vais essayer de lui cogner un– comme il m'a fait.

« C'est un lutteur. Si, il aurait pu faire le jeu ennuyeux et m'abattre. Mais il a choisi d'aller pour la grève. Heureusement, il l'a fait parce que c'était un beau KO. Si Bellator pouvait m'envoyer plus d'attaquants, alors ils seraient les bienvenus.

"Je me sens bien, parfaitement fort. Mais j'ai senti mon genou s'effondrer. Et j'ai arrêté de beaucoup bouger. je n'ai pas fait beaucoup de jeu de jambes. Je savais que ça allait être entre mes mains, parce que ma jambe était douloureuse. Avec optimisme, tout s'est bien passé.

"Mes deux défaites ont été contre deux des meilleurs au monde. Si, Je me bats à haut niveau depuis longtemps et je suis prêt pour tout le monde. Ils peuvent voir que ce combat m'a accueilli à Bellator, et maintenant ils me connaissent. Ils savent que Matheus Mattos est un attaquant et il vient pour nous.

« Je suis dans la fleur de l'âge maintenant, donc je suis prêt pour tout le monde. »

"Je me sens bien. Je veux saluer mes enfants à la maison. J'ai été absent de la maison pendant neuf semaines et c'est le plus long que j'ai jamais été sans mes enfants. Si, cette victoire est pour vous.

"J'essayais juste d'évaluer ma distance. Ça commençait à être un combat un peu lent, tellement désolé pour les fans. je pouvais t'entendre crier. Mais j'étais déterminé à garder mon rythme et à ne rien précipiter. Nous savions qu'elle balançait avec puissance et que le crochet droit et le crochet gauche étaient assez rapides. Nous avons beaucoup travaillé sur les coups de pied, et je vais avoir beaucoup de bleus demain. Et j'espère que ses mollets seront aussi douloureux.

"Mes entraîneurs quand je suis revenu dans le coin m'ont dit de ne pas me bagarrer. Si, J'ai suivi leurs conseils et je pensais avoir lutté intelligemment.

"Il parlait s— disant, 'Hey, bagarrons-nous dans le coin.’ Je suis comme, 'Copain, c'est stupide.' C'est pourquoi tu n'es pas là où je suis. Parce que tu ne te bats pas intelligemment. Vous essayez de venir ici et de vous bagarrer. Tu peux faire ça tout ce que tu veux, mais tu ne vas pas être un champion du monde comme moi.

After dominating the first three opponents of his professional boxing career, Paul continues to step-up the caliber of his competition against Woodley, a decorated mixed martial arts champion and striking specialist who held the UFC title from 2016 à 2019. The 24-year-old Paul (3-0, 3 KOs) is a world-renowned content creator. He began his professional boxing journey in January 2020 and has proven to be an influential participant in the sport’s landscape with his outsized personality and quickly developing skill set. The Cleveland-native is fighting out of Puerto Rico under the eye of former pro boxing contender B.J. Fleurs, who has been training Jake from his first professional fight. After knocking out YouTube star AnEsonGib and former NBA star Nate Robinson in his first two outings, Paul made quick work of former MMA champion Ben Askren in April with a first-round knockout. With the win over Askren, Paul notched his first victory over a seasoned professional fighter and now takes on an even bigger challenge in Woodley.

“I grew up going to Cavs, Browns and Indians games on the weekends, dreaming as a little kid of one day being in a position to put on a show for my hometown like they did,” said Paul. “On August 29, that dream comes true. My biggest challenge to date, in front of the city that made me, on pay per view for the world to see me knockout a UFC champion. I’m also thrilled to have Amanda Serrano on this card. She stands out as the most prolific KO artist in women’s boxing. What a night this is going to be!"

Combats de St. Louis, Missouri, Woodley (19-7-1 MMA enregistrement) has a storied career in combat sports. He became UFC champion in July 2016, defeating Robbie Lawler in the first round, and went on to defend his title successfully four times. Before competing in the UFC, Woodley fought in the Strikeforce MMA promotion on SHOWTIME and compiled an 8-1 record from 2009 par 2012. Widely considered one of the most dangerous punchers in UFC history, Woodley earned 14 de son 19 wins by way of TKO or submission.

Chihuaha, Mexico’s Mercado (18-2, 5 KOs) has held the super bantamweight title since November 2019 and will look to become a two-division champion on August 29 when she challenges Serrano. The 23-year-old won the title via unanimous decision over Fatuma Zarika, avenging a previous defeat to Zarika in Mercado’s first attempt at the championship. Mercado rides a six-fight winning streak into this showdown, including victories over Julissa Guzman and previously unbeaten Angelica Rascon in 2021.
