If you know before the fight that a particular fighter is making a new commitment to the sport after the birth of a child, that kind of inspiration can be key.

A death of someone close to a fighter can also have a huge effect on the outcome of a fight. Consider one of the greatest upsets of all time: James “Buster” Douglas beating “Iron” Mike Tyson. Buster’s mother tragically died just 23 days before the fight. Douglas promised her before she died that he would beat Tyson.
