HORNSTRA ON FIGHT WITH CUSHING: “BRING UMBRELLAS, BECAUSE I’M SENDING TEETH INTO THE CROWD”

לשחרורו מיידי: פורטלנד, מיין (ינואר 17, 2020) - קרבות ניו אינגלנד (NEF) will hold its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) אירוע, “NEF 42: Symphony of Destruction,” ביום שבת, פבואר 8, 2020, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a professional catchweight bout to the card.Keegan “The Flu” Hornstra(4-11) ייקח בRyan “The Roosta” Cushing(0-0) במשקל קרב של 160 קילו.

Keegan Hornstra is a longtime veteran of the New England MMA fight scene, having made his amateur debut a decade ago. He returned to the cage last April after a three-year absence and defeated Zenon Herrera (1-8) by first-round submission at “NEF 38.” Hornstra had a quick turnaround for his next fight, taking on Dom Jones (2-3) just a few weeks later at “NEF 39.” Unfortunately for Hornstra, he was on the losing end of that contest. He will look to get back in the win column on February 8. Hornstra currently represents Evolution Athletix based in Saco, מיין.

“He won’t show,” predicted Hornstra of his opponent. “If he does, bring umbrellas, because I’m sending teeth into the crowd.”

Ryan Cushing will make his professional debut at “NEF 42.” He is an independent fighter based out of Massachusetts. Cushing was a perfect 2-0 as an amateur with both victories coming by way of first-round submission.

“Keegan is a fantastic person and a veteran that I really respect,” said Cushing.  “He also has really turned himself around lately and looks better than ever, and he is someone I always got along with when I crossed paths and spoke with him, so it’s going to be pretty cool sharing the cage with him. I’m excited to test myself against him in the cage and in the ‘best facial hair’ battle at weigh-ins.”

SECOND WOMEN’S BOUT ADDED TO NEF 39 CARD FIGHT

Megan Rosado is currently an even 1-1 since debuting in the NEF cage late last year. She took on Glory Watson at “NEF 36” in September and went the distance in a back-and-forth, thrilling contest. Watson was able to pull out a split decision on the judges’ scorecards to take the victory. Rosado returned last month at “NEF 38” בפורטלנד, Maine to face Amanda Bennett (0-2).  שוב, the fight went to the judges’ כרטיסי ניקוד, but this time it was Rosado walking out of the cage with the win. “Training mixed martial arts has changed my life,” remarked Knapp. “I’m just excited to challenge myself against a tough opponent like Megan. My coach tells me that everybody from Nate Libby’s gym is tough, so we’re getting ready for a fight.”

The bout between Rosado and Knapp is the second women’s fight announced for the “NEF 39” card. Also on the amateur card that night, תהילה ווטסון (4-0) will meet Caree Hill (4-1) for the vacant women’s flyweight championship.

A NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION WILL BE CROWNED AT NEF 39

Carlton Charles (3-2) יעמוד בפני Jordan Norman (2-1) for the vacant amateur middleweight belt.

Prior to entering the MMA ranks, Carlton Charles made his mark on the football field. He played for Windham High School in Windham, Maine and later led the team to a Class A title as an assistant coach. Charles went on to play fullback for the University of Maine Black Bears. He made his NEF debut in the summer of 2017 with a 23-second knockout win. He would top that performance with a 12-second knockout victory in February 2018. After an unsuccessful attempt at capturing the amateur welterweight title against Duncan Smith (5-3) יוני האחרון, Charles returned to the cage one month ago in New Hampshire and picked up yet another first-round knockout win.

I know my coaches will have me ready for this one! have no doubt in my mind the fans will be in for a real treat with this one.”

Jordan Norman has indeed come a long way since his NEF debut last June. He lost that evening via first-round knockout, but Norman would come firing back in his next two bouts. He won a split decision over John Assam (0-1) בסתיו שעבר, and just last month finished Greg Ishihara (0-1) in the second round. Norman represents the Bad Little Falls Dojo.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to get into the NEF cage and compete for the amateur title against someone like Carlton,” exclaimed Norman. “He and I will put on one hell of a show for the Lewiston crowd. Both of us come to fight and it won’t be any different on June 22nd. I have nothing but respect for him and his team. I’m excited for the task at hand and scrapping it out for the middleweight title.”

The middleweight title fight between Charles and Norman is the fourth already announced for the “NEF 39” card. Josh “Hook On” הארווי (6-0-1) is scheduled to defend the professional featherweight title against Jordan Downey (5-4), while Nate Boucher (4-3) will square off with Robert Presley (5-4) for the vacant amateur men’s flyweight belt, and undefeated Glory Watson (4-0) takes on Caree Hill (4-1) to crown NEF’s first amateur women’s flyweight champion. Also announced for the card, ג'סי “ויקינג” אריקסון (9-7) faces Lewis Corapi (8-5) in a professional lightweight bout.
