Murphys Boxing è orgoglioso di annunciare che il prossimo destinatario del Warrior’s Code Award sarà la leggenda della boxe del New England, 'Uomo di ghiaccio’ John Scully.
The Hartford, Scully, con sede nel Connecticut, era uno dei combattenti più popolari della regione durante gli anni '90 e se ne andò 38-11 in una carriera professionale nella divisione dei pesi massimi leggeri che includeva la sfida per il titolo mondiale contro Henry Maske in Germania.
Dopo la sua carriera professionale, 'Uomo di ghiaccio’ raggiunto la fama chiamando ritrasmissioni di lotte per ESPN Classic oltre a scrivere una colonna popolare sulla rivista britannica, Notizie di inscatolamento.
Tuttavia Scully ha ottenuto il suo maggior successo come allenatore essendo determinante nell'aiutare a prendere i combattenti Jose Antonio Rivera e Chad Dawson ai titoli mondiali.
Scully è ora una co-allenatrice del russo, ora con sede in Canada, campione del mondo dei pesi massimi leggeri imbattuto, Artur Beterbiev, che difende il suo titolo questo sabato in California dal vivo ESPN.
Oltre al suo lavoro di allenatore è stato un appassionato sostenitore e difensore dei diritti e del benessere dei combattenti in pensione.

Fondatore di Murphys Boxing, Ken Casey spiega la decisione della promozione di nominare Scully come ultima destinataria del premio che prende il nome da una delle canzoni d'autore dei Dropkick Murphy, "The Warrior’s Code" che è un omaggio a un altro eroe della boxe del New England, Micky Ward.

Scully sarà il terzo destinatario del premio istituito quest'anno da Murphys Boxing per celebrare quei combattenti che hanno contribuito alla ricca e diversificata storia della boxe nel New England. Scully si unisce 2019 Candidato nella Hall of Fame internazionale, Tony DeMarco e decorato Massachusetts’ dilettante, Mike D’Ampolo che ha ricevuto i primi premi all'ultimo evento di Murphys Boxing a Melrose, Massachusetts lo scorso marzo.
La presentazione di Murphys Boxing's Warrior’s Code Award si svolgerà durante il Murphys Boxing's UFC lotta Passo debutto venerdì prossimo, 10 maggio che presenta NABA Super Featherweight Champion, Abraham Nova (14-0, 10 KO) vs. Mario Ezequiel Sayal Lozano (18-2-1, 9 KO) nel 10 round main event così come un ricco undercard di combattenti imbattuti dalla scuderia Murphys Boxing tra cui il campione sudamericano dei pesi medi WBC, Carlos Gongora (15-0, 12 KO), NABF Jr. Super Featherweight Champion, William Foster III (9-0, 6 KO), Olimpico venezuelano, Luis Arcon Diaz (6-0, 6 KO), Straordinario dilettante di Boston, James Perella (2-0, 2 KO) e altro ancora.

The award’s first recipients will be2019 International Boxing Hall of Fame indotto,Tony DeMarco and one of Massachusetts’ most decorated amateur boxers, Mike D’Ampolo.
Both fighters will be presented with their awards nextVenerdì, March 29that the Murphys Boxing event atMemorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts.
A 87 anni,Tony DeMarco holds the distinction of beingboxing’s oldest living world championand has been a beloved figure in the Boston sports world for over half a century.
Known as ‘Nardo’, the Boston fighter of Italian descent, turned pro unbelievably just a few years after the end of World War II. In un 14 year career, DeMarco went 52-12-1 while fighting during boxing’s golden age. His legendary battles with Hall of Famers likeCarmen Basilio e Kid Gavilinmade DeMarco a star and he won thewelterweight world title in 1955 contro Johnny Saxtonat the original Boston Garden in a fight that was voted one ofBoston’s Top 10 Sports Moments.
DeMarco, who still can be found ringside at Murphys Boxing events and whose statue resides in Boston’s North End where he still lives, will receive the long overdue honor of joining the International Boxing Hall of Fame as a 2019 inductee this June.
“Murphys Boxing has always been very welcoming to me and my family.”, explains DeMarco.
“They have a true respect for boxing’s history. It’s an honor to be given their first ever award just months before entering the International Boxing Hall of Fame. I am looking forward to the evening.”
Joining DeMarco will be Melrose’s own, Mike D’Ampolo, who is considered one of the most successful amateurs ever to come out of the state of Massachusetts.
D’Ampolo was a Campione dei guanti d'oro del New England, un 3x New England AAU Champ, un 2x Eastern Regional Championand participated in the1984 Trials olimpicibarely missing a spot on the legendary1984 USA Olympic Teamwith his weight class ultimately being represented by none other thanEvander Holyfield.
On advice from his father, D’Ampolo made the decision to not enter the professional ranks and went onto become a successful businessman with his company, M&L Transit Systems based out of his hometown of Melrose, Massachusetts.
“I’m humbled. Back when we were fighting, there wasn’t much recognition or credit given to amateurs.”, says D’Ampolo.
“I used to be in the paper back then but it’s been a long time and I’m just very grateful to Murphys Boxing for remembering and honoring me here in my hometown.”
