Santa Cruz worked out alongside his father and trainer, Jose Santa Cruz, for the media in attendance and spoke about his upcoming bout and more. The workout also featured a surprise performance from Martin Castillo and a five-piece band that included a tuba and an accordion. Santa Cruz jumped rope and went through drills while traditional Mexican folk music called Corrido filled the Southern California gym.
Here is what Santa Cruz and his father had to say Thursday:
LEO SANTA CRUZ
“I always train to make a statement. I want to go out there and show everyone that I’m really good and I deserve to be considered one of the best.
“I fight for my family. Since I was small, this is what I’ve wanted to do to help my family. I wanted to work hard and give my family a better future.
“Martinez is a strong fighter who comes forward and always puts pressure on you. He never backs down and always comes to fight. That’s what we like about this matchup — it makes for a more intense fight.
“We’re going to give the fans an entertaining show. The fans are the ones who are going to win at the end of the night. I’m going to go out there and try to knock him out by the end of the third round.
“I think he’s going to be the aggressor because he’s shorter and has to fight that way. But I’m going to go forward and be the aggressor too. If that’s not working, I’ll box him. We’re going to do what we need to do to win the fight.
“I see Carl Frampton vs. Scott Quigg as a 50-50 lutte. It’s a tough fight for both of them. I think whoever catches the other guy first will get the victory. They both can hit and they both have great skills. It could go either way.
“It’s a very interesting fight between Frampton and Quigg. They’ve both been possible opponents for me and I hope that I do well that night and face the winner of that fight. Je ne me soucie pas de qui il est, I want to fight them.

“We’re working on our distance and learning new things every day in camp. I don’t want to change too much, since I’m undefeated. I’m going to be prepared mentally and physically to get the win.
“We’re working hard all the time. We know what we have to do in the ring to win the fight. My last fight our strategy was to brawl but we adjusted it and moved more and we were able to get the victory.
On his recent foray into boxing promotion: “Being a promoter is difficult. It’s very hard. You’re always busy, so right now I’m focused on my boxing career. I’m letting my brothers and my family take care of it now. I’m not there 100 percent yet but I like to give my opinion. It’s something I’d like to do after I retire.”
JOSE SANTA CRUZ

He’s a come-forward, comes-to-win, aggressive-minded slugger who makes for exciting fights and has been in with excellent opposition.

 

The ultimate road warrior, the 5-foot-5, 29-year-old Martinez has fought more than one-third of his fights outside his native Spain, where he has tussled 26 fois. He’s also fought four times in Ireland, three times in England, three times in Northern Ireland and one time each in Japan, Argentine, France and South Africa.

“I love fighting in my opponent’s backyard. That is not a problem for me at all. People who know boxing know I will give everything to this sport. I want to give great shows and entertain people. I’m coming forward and throwing punches and I don’t give up.

 

“I’m going to give 100 percent and it’s going to be a tremendous fight. I have a ton of respect for Leo Santa Cruz. A lifelong resident of Spain, Martinez was born in Granada, Espagne, and resides in Alicante. He has two sisters and two brothers but is the only one in the family who boxes professionally. He turned to boxing as a young teenager.

 

“I started in boxing because when I was about 13 I was smaller and other kids bullied me all the time. So I began looking for a way to learn to defend myself,'' At-il dit. “Once I decided to start boxing and dedicated myself to it I fell in love with the sport.’’

 

Comme un amateur, Martinez went 47-2 and won a Spanish national amateur championship, but he had no international amateur experience. “I had a good amateur career but never thought about the Olympics,'' At-il dit. “My mind was always on being a pro fighter.’’

 

A dangerous puncher who’s at his best when he pressures his opponents and wears them down, Martinez turned pro in June 2004. He was victorious in his initial 17 combats, winning all but three by knockout.

 

Martinez met Sergio Martinez [no relation] about nine years ago. “I met Sergio in the gym in Spain that he used to train himself in and we became good friends. When I started boxing I looked up to Julio Cesar Chavez and I am now a big fan of Marcos Maidana. I like to fight like him.

 

“But I’ve always had a special relationship with Sergio, who inspired me because he came from poverty like me. He has taught me so much. It’s like looking into a mirror because he knows where I came from. He’s taught me so much inside and outside the ring. We were very poor growing up and my father worked very hard.’’

LAS VEGAS (Juillet 25, 2015) – Shumenov Beibu (16-2, 10 KOs) vaincu B.J. Fleurs (31-2-1, 20 KOs) par décision unanime Samedi nuit à remporter un titre cruiserweight monde sur Premier Champions de boxe sur NBCSN de la perle au Palms Casino Resort.

“Je pense que je l'ai bien là. Je écouté mon coin et a pu atterrir poinçons.

 

“Je ai utilisé ma défense, mes yeux et surtout je écouté mon coin. Je l'aurais jeté quelques coups de poing plus, mais je voulais rester à l'extérieur et de l'utilisation des angles.

 

“Je savais que ça allait être un combat rapproché, il est venu très dur et je devais être à mon meilleur. Moi et mon équipe ont pu pour le faire.

“Je suis resté discipliné soir. Il était un bon test ce soir et je suis tout prêt à se remettre au travail.

 

“Je suis un peu déçu, je ne pouvais pas obtenir le KO mais je me sentais vraiment bien là. Chapeau à mon adversaire, il a été difficile et pourrait vraiment prendre un coup de poing.

 

“Je lui ai fait mal dans le dernier tour et il me tenait, mais il était en mesure de rester sur ses pieds. Je vais toujours à frapper gars mais je voulais montrer au monde que je suis le talent pour aller là-bas et la boîte.

“Tout le travail a été fait pour le samedi soir. Je veux me battre le meilleur pour prouver que je suis le meilleur cruiserweight dans le monde.

“Je suis vraiment heureux de cette occasion. Je me sens renaître depuis que je rencontré mon nouvel entraîneur. Je l'ai changé et je me sens comme il est un nouveau départ. Je veux me battre les meilleurs combattants dans le monde.

“Chaque jour, nous travaillons dur sur les fondamentaux pour améliorer mes compétences et conditionné. Chaque jour, je apprends.

“Je me sens beaucoup mieux comme un cruiserweight sans stress sur mon corps comme je le faisais quand je devais faire 175 livres. Maintenant, Je me concentre sur de mieux en mieux au lieu de faire le poids.

“Quelque chose qui est très motivant pour moi est ma seule défaite, quand je voyageais vers l'Australie pour lutter contre Danny Green.

 

“À 200 livres-je ne l'ai jamais perdu et je ne vais pas perdre le samedi soir.

 

“Je dois beaucoup de confiance et beaucoup de motivation à venir dans cette lutte. Beibut est un bon combattant et je l'ai pris ce défi plus sérieux que tout autre combat de toute ma vie.

 

“Je sais que les dangers que cet homme possède et je serai prêt pour eux le samedi. Je vais mettre tout cela sur la ligne et cimenter toute ma carrière, samedi soir.

 

“Je suis impatient de monter sur le ring avec Beibut. Il est un très bon combattant. Ils ne donnent pas des titres mondiaux des poids lourds légers gratuitement ou parce qu'ils sont faciles. Il lui a valu. Tout ce qu'il a obtenu dans sa carrière, il a gagné et je suis à la recherche pour obtenir la mine samedi soir.”

 

JORDANIE Shimmell

 

“Je me sens prêt. Je suis prêt. Je l'ai été impatient de ce moment depuis un certain temps maintenant. Je me suis entraîné dur et je me sens en bonne santé. Je dois juste bien performer et de montrer tout ce que je dois le samedi.

 

“Dès son jeune âge, il a toujours été un de mes rêves d'être sur cette scène. Ce qui en fait ici maintenant, Je veux juste faire avancer ma carrière et effectuer, si bien que je peux le faire.

 

“Chaque fois que vous arrivez à combattre à Las Vegas, il est une chose passionnante. Ceci est le siège de boxe du monde. Être sur la scène principale à la télévision est très excitant.

 

“Je sais Isiah est un gars rapide, donc nous avons travaillé beaucoup de vitesse, la rapidité et le mouvement. Je suis fier de ne pas se faire frapper souvent. Je veux continuer à cela et faire un combat plus facile le samedi.

 

“Fighting sur cette carte PBC est certainement une grande motivation car il est là où je l'ai voulu être. Je veux obtenir une autre occasion de se battre à la télévision et si je joue bien, je pense que cela va faire.

 

“Je suis un bon combattant bien arrondi qui peut faire un peu de tout. Voilà ce qui rend mes combats plus facile, parce que je suis capable de commuter jusqu'à styles.

 

“Je représente l'ensemble de l'Etat du Michigan dans cette lutte. Je veux représentant l'état et finalement l'ensemble du pays.

 

“Très probablement un de ces gars qui était sur scène avec moi pourrait un futur adversaire. Ce sont les meilleurs gars dans la division et ils sont tous de grands combattants et je voudrais donc vous attendre à combattre toute mon équipe met ensemble.”

 

Isiah Thomas

 

“Je suis très excité, il est bon de se battre à Las Vegas pour la première fois. Je l'ai dit avant que, il n'a pas d'importance où je me bats, mes émotions sont toujours sous contrôle et je suis tout prêt à aller travailler.

 

“Le camp d'entraînement a été excellente. Je avais cinq semaines dans le camp d'entraînement quand je suis arrivé ce combat, donc tout est 100 pour cent.

 

“Je travaille sur rester occupé, jeter beaucoup de coups de poing et à l'aide des angles. Je vais lui Outwork ou Outreterre lui. Je vais utiliser ma vitesse et mes compétences de boxe.

 

“Je suis un puncheur-boxeur avec beaucoup le ring. Je suis un combattant tout autour. Je veux monter sur le ring et regarde spectaculaire.

 

“Je vais travailler tous les soirs, si le coup de grâce vient je vais aller pour elle. Mais il est plus sur simplement en regardant impressionnante.

 

“Pour faire partie du mouvement PBC signifie beaucoup. Ils ramènent l'histoire de la boxe et de faire partie du mouvement est vraiment important pour moi.”

“Tout ce que je fais est la configuration, il est comme les échecs. Je tente d'être intelligent et ne pas prendre trop de peine. Je veux rattraper les gars quand ils font des erreurs.
