ZAC RICHARD RETURNS TO NEF CAGE IN LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION AGAINST BRANDON SEWALL

PARA DIVULGAÇÃO IMEDIATA: Orono, Maine (Julho 19, 2019) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF) will debut in Orono on September 7, 2019 at the Collins Center for the Arts with the promotion’s next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 40: School of Hard Knocks.” Hoje cedo, NEF announced the addition of an amateur lightweight bout to the card. Zac Richard has competed twice previously in the lightweight division, winning both fights in 2018. That same year, Richard was voted “Rookie of the Year” by NEF fans. He has yet to taste victory in 2019 with all three of his fights this year thus far taking place in the 145-pound featherweight division. Richard went to a five-round draw with Fred Lear for the amateur featherweight championship last February in what has been a leading contender for “Luta do Ano” in 2019. On September 7, Richard will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses in his two most recent fights this spring. At “NEF 38,” Richard dropped a five-round unanimous decision to Tom Pagliarulo (3-1) prior to losing via first-round submission to Miguel Cuevas (6-1) em Junho.

“I’m very excited to get back in there after coming off two losses a month apart,” said Richard.  “I’m extremely unhappy with my fight against Tom—I definitely can’t have another off-day on fight day again. I’ve made a lot of changes to make myself happier with my life. The grind is different now.”

Brunswick, Maine (Agosto 15, 2018) – It’s absolutely no secret that few New England lightweights have raised their fists to volunteer for a mixed martial arts showdown with “The” Ryan Sanders in recent years.

 

The competition at welterweight isn’t clamoring for a date with Sanders, ou, although a newcomer to the region with ties to another hotbed of the sport is eager to embrace the challenge at “New England Fights 35: Wicked Season.”

 

Armando “Chino” Montoya, um veterano de 16 lutas profissionais, and linked closely with a pioneering figure in combat sports, will answer the call Sábado, Setembro 8. The bout will take place on Sanders’ home turf at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Opening bell time is 7 p.m.

That attitude is a product of both Montoya’s cultural and professional background.

He’s proud to be a first-generation Mexican-American and a product of the relentless, fighting culture that has made his parents’ homeland such a force in boxing and MMA.

 

While living, working and fighting in California, he was a student of Thomas “Wildman” Denny, a veteran with almost 50 pro fights under his belt.

 

“That’s a name well-known to longtime fans of the sport,” Peterson said. “Denny was known for always having exciting fights, ganhar ou perder, and I know he instilled some of that mentality in his students, such as Armando.”

 

Montoya (10-6) fought primarily in California, Colorado and New Mexico. He was in line to fight on a UFC card in Wyoming when a hand injury forced him to withdraw from the bout.

 

Although work and family commitments have slowed his pace in recent years, only five years separate him from a six-fight win streak.

 

“I’ve fought the top local guys wherever I’ve been my whole career. I fought against guys who wound up fighting for UFC or Strikeforce,”Disse Montoya. "Eu sou 38, which I know is pretty old in this business, but I still like to challenge myself. It’s become more like a hobby. I have to work and support my family, but when the opportunities have come up, I love to train and give it a shot.”

 

A union carpenter by trade, Montoya sought more lucrative opportunities in that realm. Maine wound up on his radar because it is his mother-in-law’s home.

After the move, Montoya sought a local gym where he could continue to hone his craft in the martial arts. At 6-foot-3, having spent much of his career at middleweight, Montoya said he didn’t find many sparring partners his size.

 

“Then I was working in Portland and the superintendent there was a friend of John Raio,” Montoya recalled. “Ele disse, ‘You should check out First Class MMA in Brunswick,’ so I did.”

 

Both family-oriented men with a passion for the sport and their shared faith, Raio and Montoya became fast friends.

 

“Armando is a strong leader and our most experienced fighter,” Raio said. “He’s the most humble guy you will ever meet and a devout Christian. His warm presence and willingness to share his knowledge and experience at First Class MMA make him a strong asset to our gym. He has been a huge reason for the growth of our students. I’m honored to call him my fighter and a great friend. He’s like family to me.”

 

First Class doesn’t have many exact matchups for the newcomer’s body type, ou, but Montoya likes the mix of personalities and youthful exuberance.

 

“It’s exciting to see other people so excited about the sport,”Disse Montoya. “First Class has a lot of young guys who are just starting out, that have had one or two fights.”

 

Montoya’s first inclination is a stand-up clash. Most of his opponents have been substantially shorter, embora, and prefer ground-and-pound affairs in which his reach advantage is less of a factor. He said he enjoys the contrast of styles.

 

Sanders (16-9) is the clear favorite. In his prime at 31, undefeated through his past seven sojourns in the NEF hexagon, he has been more active than his unfamiliar opponent.

 

“Unfamiliar” is the operative word. The unknowns – namely Montoya’s vast experience against a different talent pool – make it a can’t-miss matchup.

 

Montoya can appreciate the challenge Sanders will face in ascending a class to face him.

 

“I’m used to being the one going up in weight,"Ele disse. “Being 6-foot-3, I’m used to bumping up from 170 para 185. It’s kind of cool being on the other side this time.”

While Montoya is quick to acknowledge God for his forward motion in life, he gives MMA proper credit for its role in his salvation, também.

 

Before entering the amateur ranks at age 25, ‘Mando’ spent five years in federal prison and walked out mad at the world.

 

“I had a lot of anger issues,"Ele disse. “This sport showed me how to take out that anger in a constructive way. I didn’t need to fight in the bars and the clubs anymore.”

 

Many have gained from Montoya’s personal triumphs. Agora, add NEF’s devoted fan base to that list.

 

“We’re lucky to have someone of Armando’s caliber stepping up to face Ryan,” Peterson said. “As if this card weren’t already exciting enough, now we have this added fight to thrill the Bangor fans. It doesn’t get any better than this.”

Gorham, Maine (Junho 22, 2018) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF) announced earlier today that the fight promotion would once again sponsor an athlete at this year’s Brawlin’ Lobsta Wrestling Clinic & Tournament. The camp is set to take place at the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine (USM) a partir de Julho 17 to July 22. For the fifth year in a row, NEF will select one winner for which the fight promotion will cover tuition to the program.

“It’s a thrill for us to once again be supporting the Brawlin’ Lobsta Wrestling Clinic,” stated NEF co-owner and Matchmaker Matt Peterson. “This year it’s all the more exciting to be partnering with Maine wrestling legend Brandon Bushaw to send not one, but two wrestlers to clinic. Mike Morin’s USM program is exploding and with the latest round of recruits that he’s brought in, I have no doubt that they will be a threat at the national level within the next two to three seasons. I encourage every Maine wrestler to apply for this scholarship to earn a chance to work with Morin’s decorated staff clinicians. Adicionalmente, NEF MMA veteran Brandon Bushaw has also agreed to sponsor an athlete in the program this year. Now a business owner residing in South Carolina, Bushaw cut his teeth on the mats growing up in Westbrook, Maine. He won two Maine state titles wrestling for Westbrook High School. After high school, Bushaw went on to wrestle for Michigan State University where he was a teammate of current UFC competitors Rashad Evans and Gray Maynard. He is a member of the Maine Wrestling Hall of Fame.

“I attended Boston University wrestling camp between my sophomore and junior seasons in high school,” recalled Bushaw. “Not only did it change me as a wrestler, but I really feel that it changed me as a person. I have attended and coached many camps, and the life lessons you learn there are very important. I am proud to sponsor a young wrestler to attend USM’s Brawlin’ Lobsta wrestling clinic because I feel it is important to give back to a sport and community that has given me so much!”

Camp instructors Mike Morin and Jon Deupree have both competed in the MMA cage in the past. Morin is the head wrestling coach at USM and a two-time All-American. Deupree is an assistant coach with USM. He was a two-time NCAA national qualifier wrestling for the Huskies.

“I would like to thank NEF for supporting USM wrestling and sponsoring another wrestler to attend the Brawlin’ Lobsta Camp this summer,” said Morin. “This sponsorship is huge in allowing kids to have the opportunity to wrestle year-round who might not have that opportunity otherwise. It’s great for our program at USM and great for the state as a whole to get better in the sport of wrestling!”

NO APRIL FOOLIN’: BOYINGTON VACATES TITLE, ERICKSON FIGHTS POWELL FOR THE STRAP

Lutas da Nova Inglaterra (NEF) Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Professional Lightweight Champion Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (13-8) took to Facebook to notify his fans that he had vacated the title belt. Some speculated that it could be an April Fools’ gracejo, but those rumors were later quelled when Boyington himself stated under the thread that his decision had been made for personal and medical reasons, citing recent surgeries and a host of longstanding injuries.

 

“After one of the most inspirational and exhilarating rides of my life, I have talked with my wife, my coaching staff and teammates and have decided it’s now time to let go of one chapter and turn the page for another,” Boyington stated when reached for official comment. “NEF has been there for me since the start and I couldn’t ask for a better group to get me where I want to go. I like the thought of vacating the belt on top and handing it off to one of my teammates, esperançosamente Josh Harvey (0-0) and I will be excited to watch a couple other lightweight warriors going after the strap. Jesse “O Viking” Erickson (6-4) e Devin Powell (5-1) will now meet in a five-round contest at “NEF 22: TODAS AS ESTRADAS CONDUZEM AQUI” to crown a new champion. The bout was already signed as a non-title three-rounder to headline the MMA portion of the April 23rd fight card in Lewiston, Maine. Both athletes quickly agreed to go five rounds with the title on the line. Both athletes have each won their last three fights in a row respectively.

 

“I am honored to be able to fight for the title which I saw Bruce Boyington recently defend against Jon Lemke (5-4) in the best local fight I’ve ever gotten to see,” said Powell. “I hope Jesse and I can put on a show for the fans that can be talked about for years to come. I’ve been training too hard and too long to not hop on this opportunity. I can’t wait to get in that cage April 23rdin front of an always amped up NEF crowd!”

 

Speaking of Lemke, NEF executives placed one condition on the upcoming Erickson-Powell bout – the winner must make his first defense of the lightweight title against Lemke. Lemke lost a very close split decision in an attempt to claim the title from Boyington earlier this year. That fight has been called “the greatest fight to ever take place in the NEF MMA cage” by many observers.

 

“Jon Lemke more-than deserves another crack at the strap,” disse NEF co-proprietário e matchmaker Matt Peterson. “His bout with Bruce at ‘NEF 21’ was nothing short of epic. I was completely spellbound watching that fight for the full 25-minutes it was contested. It’s a bittersweet time at NEF. Bruce was a great fighting champion and despite the high stakes every time he stepped into the cage, he was always one of the most active competitors on the NEF roster. Bruce’s warrior spirit and memorable performances in the NEF cage will be dearly missed, but we are fortunate to have so many superb athletes waiting in the wings right behind him to fill that void. There will be no shortage of upcoming action in the NEF lightweight division.”

HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH ADDED TO NEF 22 CARTÃO DE LUTA

Nick Gulliver is a product of John Raio’s First Class MMA gym of Brunswick, Maine, as well as the Foundry – um Jiu-Jitsu brasileiro (BJJ) academy located in Farmington, Maine. He made his amateur debut last June at “NEF XVIII,” submitting Sonny Spratt (0-2) na primeira rodada. He hopes another win on April 23rd will put him in line for a shot at the NEF MMA Amateur Heavyweight Title currently held by Billy Leahy (3-1).

 

“I’m looking forward to fighting again for NEF on April 23rd, and I’m thankful for the opportunity that Matt Peterson and Nick Disalvo give me to fight for their amazing organization,” said Gulliver. “I’ll be fighting who I think is now the number one heavyweight fighter fighting for NEF, Dave Smith. This kid is a great fighter and good athlete. I’m looking forward to a great fight. I fight for two amazing schools and organizations, the Foundry and First Class MMA. This fight will be the first time I won’t be fighting in front of my father who is sick. It’s a lot for him to go to these events being so sick and on oxygen all the time. But my father stated he would make it to one last fight if I get a title shot. I think fighting Dave Smith and winning would put me in a good spot to fight for a title. I’m looking to get that fight in front of my father who pushes me to be the man I am today. Assim, for three rounds on April 23rd, I’ll be pushing harder than I have in the past to get that opportunity. I’m always looking to impress the crowd. I think fighting someone like Smith will keep the crowd on their feet.”

 

Dave Smith is a member of Berserkers MMA based out of Rumford, Maine. Smith has an extensive wrestling background, having gone 147-17 while competing for Mountain Valley High School (MVHS) and winning two state titles in the process. He also wrestled for Plymouth State University (PSU) in New Hampshire. Like Gulliver, Smith finished his first two opponents in the opening round. He is looking to bounce back from a loss to Brendan Battles (2-0) em “NEF 21” mês passado.

CAPE COD GETS ITS FIRST MMA CAGEFIGHTING EVENT; BATTLES & LAMONTE TO MAKE PRO DEBUTS

Hyannis, Massachusetts (Março 4, 2016) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF), Número um promoção luta regional da América, announced today that it will bring Cape Cod its first-ever mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event this spring. O evento, intitulado “NEF 23: NEF CAGES THE CAPE,” terá lugar no Maio 14, 2016 at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HYCC) in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Both professional and amateur MMA bouts will be presented that evening.

 

A data, NEF has held twenty-two events, a mix of MMA and boxing shows, in the state of Maine. The promotion was formed in 2012 by business partners Nick DiSalvo and Matt Peterson. NEF has a reputation of putting on action-packed events in venues filled with thousands of rabid fight fans. The promotion has a large, dedicated fan base unmatched by any of its competitors on the regional level. Ao longo dos anos, NEF’s cage has played host to UFC veterans such as Marcus Davis (22-11) and two-time UFC World Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia (31-10), entre outros. NEF co-promoted a nationally-televised event with Bellator in the spring of 2013. Its fight highlights have been featured prominently on AXS TV, TUFF TV and the “World’s Greatest Knockouts” na Spike TV.

 

“The NEF brand is expanding,” noted DiSalvo. “Cape Cod is hungry for an MMA event. I’m surprised it’s taken this long to happen with so many great teams located in the area. NEF is honored to be the first to present an MMA show on the Cape.”

 

One MMA team whose fighters will be featured prominently on the Maio 14 card will be Hyannis-based Team Juniko.

 

“This show will be the first MMA show on Cape Cod in Team Juniko’s backyard,” remarked Team Juniko coach Mike Gresh. “Congrats NEF!”

 

Gresh is a longtime, respected leader in the New England MMA community. Two of his team’s members have been confirmed as making their professional debuts on Maio 14 – Erin “Tamanho do divertimento” Lamonte and Brendan “Lockdown” Battles.

 

Scituate’s Erin Lamonte put together a perfect 6-0 record as an amateur competitor. She is coming off back-to-back submission victories in Lewiston, Maine.

 

“I cannot wait for NEF to come to the Cape,” exclaimed Lamonte. “All but one of my fights have been out of state, so I am so excited to fight in front of all my family and friends in my own backyard! Brendan Battles is a native of nearby Eastham, Massachusetts where he was a three-time All-American wrestler for Nauset Regional High School. Battles won two state championships and three New England regional championships while amassing a total of 161 wins over the course of his high school wrestling career. Lewiston, Maine (Agosto 27, 2015) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF), Número um promoção luta regional da América, tem o orgulho de anunciar a assinatura de “Sonolento” Norman Fox (4-2) to an NEF developmental deal. The deal will see Fox make his professional debut with the promotion in the flyweight division in early 2016.

 

“Eu tive uma corrida muito bem sucedida como um amador com NEF, but it’s time to take things to the next level,” disse Fox. “No one has seen what I’m fully capable of, but they will soon enough. The flyweight division is mine.”

 

Um membro do MMA Athletix em Bath, Maine, Fox debuted with NEF as an amateur in the summer of 2013. He won his first four fights in NEF all via stoppage. Fox is considered a rising star in a very thin, mas florescente, divisão flyweight regionais.

NEF_FNVXIII_madeinUSA_FB_final +(1)Lewiston, Maine (Abril 16, 2015) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF), Número um promoção luta regional da América, vai realizar suas XVIII mistas-de artes marciais (MMA) evento, “NEF XVIII: Feito na América,” em Sábado, Junho 13, 2015 no Colisee Androscoggin Bank em Lewiston, Maine. Hoje cedo, a promoção anunciou que o primeiro NEF MMA Amador Campeão Leve será coroado naquela noite quando invicto Ricky Dexter (3-0), representando Marcus Davis’ Equipe irlandesa, vai assumir Josh Harvey (3-1) do rival cross-town Young’s MMA. A luta será disputada no limite de peso leve de 155 libras.

 

Dexter e Harvey são considerados dois dos melhores candidatos atualmente no elenco do NEF MMA. Ambos os atletas estão invictos na jaula da promoção. Em Junho 13, eles vão continuar a rivalidade que se alastrou na NEF entre os ginásios Young’s MMA e Team Irish por vários anos.

 

“Ambos os jovens atletas são uma prova de seus respectivos ginásios, bem como a evolução do esporte no Maine,” disse NEF co-proprietário e matchmaker Matt Peterson. “Ambos surgiram depois que o NEF foi estabelecido no estado, e vimos ambos crescerem no ano passado. Dexter, atualmente o peso leve amador melhor classificado na Nova Inglaterra, vem de uma vitória por finalização no primeiro turno sobre Zenon Herrera (3-6) último sábado em “XVII NEF.” Dexter tomou de assalto a divisão dos leves da promoção desde sua estreia em novembro passado. Ele parou todos os três oponentes no primeiro round para ganhar a chance de se tornar o primeiro campeão amador leve do NEF MMA.

 

“Tenho a honra de lutar pelo título de amador NEF Lightweight,” declarou Dexter. “Para mim, há muito mais em jogo do que apenas um cinto. Em 13 de junho é melhor você acreditar que eu estou trazendo.”

 

Quando os fãs viram Josh Harvey pela última vez na jaula do NEF, ele estava com o braço levantado em vitória após atacar Caleb Hall (5-2) na abertura amadora de “NEF XVI” em fevereiro deste ano. Harvey levou apenas 36 segundos para percorrer o Hall, ele mesmo duas vezes campeão estadual de luta livre pela Dirigo High School em Dixfield, Maine. Lewiston, Maine (Abril 12, 2015) - Fights Nova Inglaterra (NEF), Número um promoção luta regional da América, realizou a sua décima sétima evento mistas-de artes marciais, “NEF XVII,” Sábado noite no Colisee Androscoggin Bank em Lewiston, Maine.
