Jorge Cota Forced to Withdraw After Emergency Appendectomy

Hurd fights out of Accokeek, Maryland, just south of Washington, D.C. and is perfect since entering the pro ranks in 2012. The 26-year-old has faced three straight undefeated fighters including a sixth-round stoppage of Frank Galarza in 2015 and a 10th-round TKO over Oscar Molina in the co-main event of the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter card in June. The exciting boxer-puncher will look to continue his climb to a world title on November 12.
Né en Roumanie, Dan fights out of Quebec, Canada and hopes to stay perfect in his U.S. sorties, having already won twice stateside. PHILADELPHIA (Octobre 19, 2016) – In the last year, undefeated 154-pound contender “Rapide” Jarrett Hurd has rocketed to the top of the stacked super welterweight division, putting himself squarely in the hunt for a world title. Samedi, Novembre 12, Hurd continues his championship march as he takes on once-beaten Jorge Cota en Premier Champions de boxe sur Épi action from Temple University’s Liacouras Center.

Hurd enters this fight coming off of two impressive victories over previously unbeaten fighters. Hurd followed that up in June of this year, when he stopped Carlos Molina in the final round on CBS as the co-main event of the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter showdown. Hurd’s blinding right uppercut in the first round sent Molina to the canvas and the surligner earned him a spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.

(On his team): J'ai la meilleure équipe du monde. Ernesto Rodriguez is my head trainer and we do our work in Temple Hills, Maryland. Ernesto is great because he trains me for the style that fits my skills best.
There is no ego in my team. We’re all working toward the same goal and everyone plays their role perfectly. With each fight we’re getting closer to reaching the ultimate goal – becoming a world champion.
(On his start in boxing): My father first put me in the ring to learn how to defend myself. I was 15-years-old and didn’t really know how to fight. I took to it quickly though and it was obviously one of the best things that ever happened to me.
(On his nickname): I got my nickname from the gym. I looked calm and collective in the gym and people noticed. They said I looked swift in there. Now it’s “Rapide” et “Rapide” on the same card and it’s going to be electric.
(On his boxing idols): I tried to emulate a lot of defensive fighters. Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather are my favorite fighters of all time. I liked James Toney because of his shoulder roll and the Philly shell style.
(Favorite sport/team): I watch football. I only the watch the Washington Redkins though. I’ve always been a huge fan.
(Favorite television show): Power on Starz
(Favorite movie): Deadpool
(Favorite junk food): Pizza
(Favorite health food): Kale
(Celebrity crush): Keri Hilson and Nia Long
(Perfect Vacation): Definitely a cruise to Puerto Rico. I’ve never been there but I want to experience it.
(On his homemade “All Access” videos): I just love to be out there and giving fans a chance to feel connected to me. My childhood friend, Christopher Walton, picked up a camera and just started recording me in the ring and outside of the ring one day. He started getting some better equipment so we decided to do these videos to help promote me. The fans are important to me and I want them to feel like they’re a part of my journey.

Garcia, a two-division world champion, will battle Vargas in a 10-round non-title bout in his first fight since his exciting win over Robert “The Ghost” Guerrier en Janvier. Garcia insisted on staging the fight in his hometown and using the event as a vehicle to raise awareness and money for the less fortunate in the area.
“My dad and I wanted to get one more fight in before the end of the year and there was no doubt in my mind it had to be in Philadelphia,” a déclaré Garcia. “My team got it done and it’s a great feeling to fight at home over the holidays. Garcia returns to headline in his hometown as a two-division world champion who has picked up major victories over top fighters including Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah on his way to 31 professional victories. The 28-year-old earned a vacant welterweight world title in his last bout when he won a toe-to-toe battle with former world champion Guerrero in Los Angeles taking his professional record to 32-0.
The 27-year-old Vargas enters this bout on a five-fight win streak including three stoppage victories including his most recent outing, a 10-round decision over Juan Armando Garcia in May. Born in Columbia, his family left to find a better life when he was 15 years old and after a brief stay in New York City, they moved to the Toronto suburb of Mississauga. Vargas enrolled at a boxing gym early on and learned discipline while adapting to his surroundings. L'ancien champion du monde Porter, un éternel outsider mais un gentleman accompli, ne s'est pas plaint d'être du côté des perdants lors de sa deuxième décision serrée dans un combat pour le titre.

 

« Nous avons travaillé dur, Keith est un grand champion," Porter a dit. "Mon père dit de garder la tête haute. Je pense que je gagné le combat, mais je suis satisfait car le concurrent est sorti ce soir.

 

“Nous avons besoin de cette revanche. Je sais que les fans veulent cette revanche. S'il me donne une autre chance, Je vais travailler dur sur le ring et repartir avec son titre.”

 

Le combat d'ouverture de l'émission télévisée CBS présentait un affrontement de super poids welters invaincus alors que Jarrett Hurd est passé de prospect à prétendant légitime dans la classe des 154 livres avec un dominant 10e TKO terminé Oscar Molina.

Molina (13-1-1, 10 KOs) protesté, mais à moins d'un superbe KO, il n'était qu'à quelques secondes de subir la première défaite de sa carrière via une décision unanime..

 

“J'avais l'impression que Hurd lançait beaucoup de coups de poing au dixième round mais ils ne me faisaient pas vraiment mal.," Molina a dit. "Il restait occupé mais il ne m'a jamais vraiment fait de mal.

 

"Je suis allé bas et j'avais la tête baissée et il m'a rattrapé avec cet uppercut au premier tour. Il m'a eu avec un tir auquel je ne m'attendais pas mais c'était définitivement un renversement éclair.. Je suis pas blessé.

 

“J'étais censé utiliser beaucoup plus mon jeu de jambes mais j'ai fini par étouffer mes tirs. Il avait une défense maladroite avec beaucoup de flexions et je n'arrivais pas à trouver le rythme..

 

“C'était une grande opportunité pour moi et j'avais l'impression d'avoir mené un bon combat.. je reviendrai plus fort. On va travailler sur beaucoup de choses et y retourner.”

Qui veux-tu combattre ensuite?

“Eh bien, je pense que ça va devoir être comme ça [Joseph] Parker. Je regardais vraiment Fury… J'espère qu'il ira mieux bientôt. “This is a great fight. This is what the boxing fans want to see. I truly believe you are looking at two of the best welterweights in the world.
“I’m here as an entertainer. I’m here for the love of the sport. The fans want to see these kinds of fights. It’s obvious in the welterweight division that we are the two most exciting and devastating fighters in the division.
“Everybody kept talking about the sparring video, so I just decided to put it out. Sparring is sparring and fighting is fighting. This fight will be judged and this time I’ll have eight-ounce gloves on.
“It’s always been my dream to be the undisputed champion of the world.

JARRETT HURD
“I’m thankful for this opportunity. This is a great shot for me right now. In my last fight I had an opportunity similar to this. I was a fill-in for television and I did what I was supposed to do.
“Success is accomplished when preparation meets opportunity. I know things like this can happen. It doesn’t change anything. We’re going to go out and do what we trained for.
“You always get butterflies before getting in the ring but that’s normal. Molina is very experienced and has good hand speed but I know what I can do. We’re ready for this.
“I’m happy to be on this stage. This could be the biggest fight of the year and I’m extremely blessed to open it up.
“I’m going to go out there and put on another terrific performance. Molina, he’s an Olympian and he has a lot of experience. He’s a crafty fighter and we’re going to do what we have to do to get the victory.

Kell Brook (Welterweight Champion IBF):”This is a great fight, one I can’t wait to watch. If Shawn can stick to his boxing I think he can become world champion again on points, but Keith is heavy-handed and he could walk Shawn onto one – it’s really a pick ’em fight for me.”
Errol Spence Jr. (Invaincu welterweight): “I think this is a great fight between young fighters with good skill. Shawn throws a lot of punches while Thurman is a boxer who can punch too. I know Shawn will be aggressive and it should make for a great fight. If Keith can box and keep Shawn Porter on the outside I see Keith Thurman winning. If Shawn stays on the inside and stays in the chest of Keith, I see him winning.”

I just think Thurman is going to outbox Porter. I’m picking Thurman to win by decision in a very tough fight.”

The 10-round showdown between the 25-year-old Hurd (17-0, 11 KOs) and 26-year-old Molina (13-0-10 KOs) is a rare matchup between young undefeated prospects in one of boxing’s hottest divisions. The winner graduates to contender status in the stacked 154-pound class, a division featuring Erislandy Lara, Jermall and Jermell Charlo, Demetrius Andrade and Julian Williams.
Hurd vs. Molina represents the toughest professional fight for either man.
“The dictionary definition of ‘Swift’ is to happen quickly or promptly,” Saïd Hurd. “So just like my ring name, that’s exactly what you’ll see Samedi nuit. I’m so grateful that this fight was made and that the whole world will be able to see my boxing skills on this highly anticipated card.”
“I’m excited for this fight and I’m grateful that it’s even bigger now that it’s on CBS,” Saïd Molina. “I’ve seen Hurd fight. I know what he does well and what his weaknesses are and I’ll be looking to capitalize on them. It’s important for me to defeat the top guys and this is someone I have to beat to become a world champion one day. I’m excited about fighting in Brooklyn on the big stage, but my focus will be on my trainer’s game plan and coming out victorious.”

NEW YORK (Juin 20, 2016) – Sugar Ray Leonard et Thomas “Hitman” Hearns might be uniquely qualified to talk about what WBA welterweight champion Keith “Une Fois” Thurman et “Afficher L'Heure” Shawn Porter are thinking and feeling heading into their battle that pits two men against each other who are in their primes in a highly charged battle for supremacy in the talent-laden welterweight division.

Leonard had a record of 30-1 avec 21 KOs and held the WBC welterweight title when he took on Hearns, qui était 32-0 avec 30 KOs and held the WBA title, in a 15-round title unification match in Las Vegas on September 16, 1981. The match was billed as “The Showdown” and had a worldwide television audience of 300 million.

At the time of the stoppage Hearns was leading on all three scorecards – 124-122, 125-122 et 125-121.
“It was the toughest fight of my life. It took every ounce of will and strength to beat Tommy Hearns. I couldn’t have taken that many of those in my career,” Leonard said. “The Tommy Hearns fight was the one that propelled me to the penthouse.”
Leonard felt like the victory over Hearns launched him into superstardom. He believes the same thing awaits the winner of Thurman-Porter.
Hearns on the fight: “I wanted to show my world my boxing ability. They knew I could knock people out, but they didn’t know that I could box very well.”
Both Leonard and Hearns said they are anxiously awaiting the match between Thurman and Porter because they believe it will hold just as much drama as their match 35 il y a des années.
“Ouais, you can make the comparison,” Leonard said. “Both guys are at the top of the welterweight division. The only thing that’s different is that me and Tommy were so well known by sports fans. HOW DO YOU PREPARE TO FACE THE BEST MAN IN YOUR DIVISION?
HEARNS: “It’s always hard to get prepared for someone like that because you think about what the outcome is going to be and what are your chances of winning the fight. I never thought about losing, but I thought about what my chances were.
I knew if I went out and boxed the way I knew I could box, I would beat Ray. Just the thought of fighting Ray brought a lot of questions to my mind. Some I had answers to and some I didn’t have. Most other guys I knew I could go out there and knock them out.”
WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THIS MATCHUP?
LEONARD: “Just the heart of Keith and Shawn. Both of these guys have heart and both have that will. That composure. You can’t teach composure. It’s something that you either have or you don’t. You can’t learn that. That deep, deep composure when your left eye is closed and your liver is busted and you got to get up on the canvas.”
HEARNS: “I know Thurman and Porter have the ability to get each other out of there. It’s going to be a matter of who gets to who first. I’m definitely watching. I hope to be there in person.”
HOW IMPORTANT IS THE MENTAL ASPECT OF THIS MATCH?
HEARNS: “I know what it’s like to go against somebody that people don’t think you can beat. You have to prepare for that. It’s a mental stage that you go through, how you prepare your mind. If you can control your mind and tell your body what you’re going to do, then you can do it. You can’t worry about how good the other guy can punch. Just stay out of the way. Keep on laying that stick on him and he won’t be able to punch you.”
WHAT WAS YOUR MENTALITY GOING INTO THE MATCH AGAINST LEONARD?
HEARNS: “I didn’t come to go 12 ou 15 tours. I came to whip your butt and go home. I had no desire to go 15 tours. I trained for it, but I was never going 15 Les manches.”

LEONARD: “I felt that I could beat anyone. My brother Roger didn’t think I could beat Tommy. He didn’t tell me that until it was over.
