NEW YORK – May 8, 2018 – Combate Americas today announced a new main event and  live Univision Deportes Network (UDN) telecast for its ‘Mexico vs. USA’ Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event that will be highlighted by matchups between a collection of prolific, rising stars from Mexico against ferocious combatants from the U.S., in Sacramento, Calif. on Friday, May 11.

 

The live UDN telecast of “Combate Americas: Mexico vs. USA” will begin at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT from McClellan Conference Center, and will be headlined by a 110-pound catchweight contest between top 20 world-ranked star Lisbeth “Coneja” Lopez Silva (5-3) of Mexico City, Mexico and Brenda Enriquez (1-1) of Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S. via Chihuahua, Mexico.

 

The program will also be available on the Univision Deportes app and www.UnivisionDeportes.com.

 

The telecast will immediately follow a live stream of the five-bout undercard on www.UnivisionDeportes.com, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.

 

Enriquez will replace Kyra Batara of Las Vegas, Nevada., U.S. in the main event.  Batara was originally slated to face Silva at atomweight (105 pounds), but has withdrawn from the commitment due to a strain in her back and neck.

 

In the previously announced featherweight (145 pounds) co-main event, knockout artist Horacio “The Punisher” Gutierrez (4-3) of Guadalajra, Jalisco, Mexico will collide with Nate Diaz protégé Chris Avila (5-6) of Stockton, Calif., U.S.

 

Leading off the live telecast will be a newly announced, lightweight (155 pounds) matchup between aggressive-minded finisher Anthony “The Shark” Avila (15-5) of Sacramento and hard-hitting striker Jose Luis Verdugo (8-4) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

 

In preliminary bout card action and a fourth matchup pitting fighters from the two neighboring countries against one another, Jose “Manos De Padre” Loera (0-0) of Aguascalientes, Mexico will battle Christian Giovannie (2-2) of Stockton, Calif., U.S. at bantamweight (135 pounds).

 

Elsewhere in preliminary bout action, unbeaten Kaleio “K.O.” Romero (1-0) of Sacramento will face off with Luis “Lightyear” Vargas (2-2) of San Jose, Calif., U.S. in a lightweight bout.

 

A 140-pound catchweight contest will see undefeated Andrew “Bulldog” Coyne(2-0) of Sacramento go to war with Roger “Rare Breed” Severson (2-3) of Vallejo.

 

Combate Americas veteran Jose Aguayo (2-1) of San Ramon, Calif. U.S. will return to La Jaula, the Combate Americas competition cage, to square off with unbeaten Jesse Strader (2-0) of Lancaster, Calif., U.S. in a featherweight tilt.

 

In women’s strawweight (115 pounds) action, Francis “Hitgirl” Hernandez (2-2) of Camuy, Puerto Rico will make her Combate Americas debut against Shyann Farmer (0-1) of Alamogordo, N.M., U.S.

NEW YORK – April 23, 2018 – Combate Americas today announced an epic, live Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event that will feature fighters representing Mexico against combatants representing the U.S., beginning with a much-anticipated women’s atomweight (105 pounds) matchup pitting world ranked stars Lisbeth “Coneja” Lopez Silva (5-3) and Kyra “Mogwai” Batara (7-4) against one another, at McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, Calif. on Friday, May 11.
 

Also announced today for “Combate Americas: Mexico vs. USA” was a featherweight (145 pounds) co-main event between Horacio “The Punisher” Gutierrez (4-3) and Nate Diaz protégé Chris Avila (5-6).

“’Mexico vs. USA is the best of Combate Americas, with ‘soccer style,’ country vs. country competition,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren.  “Lisbeth and Kyra are the top two atomweights in the world, and there is going to be an atomic explosion when these atoms collide.”

 

Ranked as high as 20 in the world in the women’s atomweight division, Lopez Silva, a 21-year-old native of Mexico City, Mexico is aiming for her sixth straight victory after defeating Sheila Padilla of the U.S. by way of TKO (punches) in the second round (3:24) of their bout at the inaugural “COPA COMBATE” extravaganza in Cancun last November 11.

 

Lopez Silva recently joined forces with the Guadalajara, Mexico-based Team Grasso, the home of MMA superstars Alexa Grasso and Irene Aldana.

 

The 23-year-old Batara, who fights out of Las Vegas, Nev. and is ranked as high as 19 in the world, is coming off her second consecutive win, a unanimous decision over long-standing rival Paulina “Firefox” Granados in the main event of “Combate Americas: Queen Warriors” last December 1.

 

Prior to that, Batara, a grappling expert schooled by famed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Eddie Bravo, defeated 12-time national Judo champion Vanesa Rico of Spain via second round (3:46) submission (armbar).

 

Gutierrez is an aggressive-minded, 27-year-old, rising star out of Guadalajara, aiming to make noise in what will be his Combate Americas promotional debut.

 

In his last effort on May 12, 2017, Gutierrez scored a first round (2:37) knockout (punch) on Antonio Suarez.

 

Representing the U.S., the 25-year-old Avila fights out of Lodi, Calif. is looking to return to his past form that saw him notch victories in five of his first seven professional starts, four of which came by way of (T)KO or submission inside of two rounds.

NEW YORK – APRIL 6, 2018 – Combate Americas today announced the signing of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) featherweight (145 pounds) star Gaston “Tonga” Reyno (7-2) to an exclusive, multi-year promotional contract.

 

The 5-foot-10, 31-year-old Reyno, who hails from Montevideo, Uruguay, will make his promotional debut for Combate Americas on a May date to be announced soon.

 

“We are proud to welcome Gaston Reyno, one of the most exciting fighters from South America, to the Combate Americas roster,” said  Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren.

 

Reyno is a seasoned, multiple-time champion in Muay Thai, kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do, and has competed across four different continents – North America, South America, Asia and Australia.

 

To date, Reyno has notched all of his professional victories by way of (T)KO or submission, including his latest conquest, a first round (2:30) TKO (punches) of Henri Kakiuchi of Japan in a main event contest in Punta Del Este, Uruguay onFebruary 13.

 

In Combate Americas, Reyno joins a stacked and ferociously competitive featherweight division that includes knockout artists Andres “The Bullet” Quintana and Jose “Froggy” Estrada of the U.S.; recently signed Horacio “The Punisher” Gutierrez, undefeated Rafa “Gifted” Garcia and Pablo “El Gallo Negro” Sabori of Mexico; and Pablo Villaseca of Chile.

 

The 2018 Combate Americas live television event series begins on Friday, April 13 with a live Univision (12 am ET/12 am PT) and Univision Deportes Network (12 am ET/9 pm PT) broadcast of “Combate Estrellas I” from The Shrine in Los Angeles, Calif.

Enrique “Locote” Gonzalez (6-1) of Mexico will collide with Oscar Suarez (4-1) of Spain in a bantamweight tilt.

Marroquin became an overnight Cinderella story in Cancun when he defeated three consecutive opponents – Carlos “Lobo” Rivera (10-3) of Mexico, Marcelo “Pitbull” Rojo (13-5) of Argentina and John “Sexi Mexi” Castaneda(16-3) of the U.S. – to become the 2017 “COPA COMBATE” tournament champion.
