Boston (February 4, 2019):

Murphys mekemeke is proud to announce their 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Clash will take place on Rāhoroi, March 16th kotahi ano i te House of Blues i roto i te Boston.

Headlining the stacked card will be Whitman, Massachusetts’ Mark DeLuca (22-1, 13 Koó). The current NABA Super Welterweight Champion, is ranked #10 in the world by the WBA and will defend his title against Connecticut’s Jimmy Williams (16-1-1, 5 Koó) in an all New England 10 round battle.

DeLuca is coming off the highest profile win of his career this past October when he fought on the undercard of A Rimitiriu e Andrade o world title fight at TD Garden which was shown worldwide on DAZN. DeLuca won a unanimous decision in what was an immediate rematch of the only blemish on his record, a split decision loss to Walter Wright, considered by most in attendance to be a robbery. Now DeLuca finds himself, not only one of the most popular fighters in New England, but also in contention for a world title shot later this year.

Being in the Top 10 i teie nei, I know that I’m only a phone call away from a life changing opportunity.”, explains the former Marine turned title contender.

I’m always in the gym. I’m staying focused. I know I need a good performance against Williams to keep that opportunity alive.

Having already headlined a Murphys Boxing event on St. Day a Patrick, DeLuca is well aware that it isn’t the average boxing card.

“St. Day a Patrick. Boston. Dropkick Murphys. What more can you say? The atmosphere is electric.

I roto i te hui tahi-matua, one of boxing’s favorite characters, Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan (29-3, 20 Koó) will make his return to Boston, where he has amassed a huge following, to take on Worcester, Massachusetts’ Khiary Grey (16-4, 12 Koó) in what promises to be an action packed 8 round battle.

The Cork, Ireland native who is promoted by Murphys Boxing in association with Whakatairanga Boy Golden has moved down to the junior middleweight division where he is looking to make a splash in 2019 after finishing last year with a unanimous decision victory in his home country against the 40 fight veteran, Gabor Gorbics.

Boston is a home away from home for me.”, says the outspoken, handlebar mustached slugger who has fought in the New England area 10 wa.

Murphys Boxing Saint Patrick’s Day events are not to be missed. The crowd is insane and I’m coming to give them what they wanna seea fight!”

The night will also feature a who’s who of New England’s hottest young contenders and prospects.

Murphys Boxing’s Charles Foster (17-0, 8 Koó) will put his NABA Light Heavyweight Championship title on the line in a 10 round bout against Chicago’s Mike Jimenez (22-1-2, 14 Koó).

The New Haven, Connecticut based Foster is a world ranked contender (#10 i roto i te WBA) and is fresh off a national television appearance last year when he beat the previously undefeated, Alvin Varmall, JR. i runga i Showtime. He will face one of his toughest challenges yet against the dangerous, power punching, Jimenez whose only loss came to two-time world title challenger, Hehe Hart.

Revere, Massachusetts’ favorite son, Travis Mazac Gambardella (5-0-2, 2 Koó), who trains out of the popular, KnuckleHeadz Gym in Ventura, California, will return home to try and extend his undefeated record against fellow Boston area fighter, Maceo Crowder (2-2, 1 KO) i roto i te 6 round middleweight contest.

South Boston’s Joe Farina (4-1, 3 Koó), who last fought against Gambardella, dropping a razor close majority decision on the undercard of Demetrius Andrade’s middleweight title fight at TD Garden, will look to get back in the winning column in a four round welterweight rematch against New Jersey’s Steve Moore (1-6, 1 KO) who lost a split decision to Farina last year.

In keeping with the holiday’s theme, there will be an all Irish grudge match when Lucan, Ireland o John Joyce (7-0, 4 Koó) travels to America to take on Cork, Ireland o Noel Murphy (12-1-1, 2 Koó), who is now based in New York City, in an 8 round welterweight clash that has Irish pride on the line.

The night will be kicked off by the highly anticipated professional debut of Mansfield, Massachusetts welterweight, James Perella. The decorated amateur fighter will turn proagainst Woburn, Massachusetts’ Bruno Dias (0-5) i roto i te 4 round contest.

“Ko te St. Patrick’s Day Clash is my favorite promotion of the year and one that our fighters and fans really look forward to.”, explains, Murphys Boxing founder and Dropkick Murphys frontman, Ken Casey.

The atmosphere that’s created when you put boxing on in a general admission, standing room only concert venue, let alone on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston, creates a unique and intense experience.

As for the incredibly busy and successful year the promotional company is coming off of, Casey, who will also play 4 consecutive shows with Dropkick Murphys the same week at the same venue, is even more excited about what the new year holds.

“2018 was a breakout year for Murphys Boxing but with contenders like Mark DeLuca and Charles Foster in the position for world title shots later this year and a slew of undefeated prospects on the verge of world rankings, not to mention multiple cards already planned, 2019 will take Murphys Boxing to a whole new level.

Murphys Boxing’s 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Clash takes place on Saturday, March 16th in Boston, Massachusetts at the House of Blues (15 Lansdowne Street). Doors open at 7pm. The night will also feature a specialin ringacoustic performance by The Dropkick Murphys. He tīkiti i runga i te hoko inaianei i:

Yamaguchi Falcao to Spike O’Sullivan: Stop Running from me!

Yama vs Spike.jpeg

Plant City, FL (Kia 5, 2018) – Unbeaten WBC #13 rated middleweight Yamaguchi Falcao is sick and tired of being avoided.

A Bronze Medalist at the 2012 Olympics representing his native Brazil, Falcao was in Canada last December helping David Lemieux prepare for his fight against WBO 160 pound champion Billy Joe Saunders. Falcao was made aware that middleweight Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan would serve as the televised co-feature for Lemieux-Saunders December 16 i roto i te Canada.

Upon hearing the news, Falcao and his team immediately offered to fight the more experienced O’Sullivan. The Irishman’s team reportedly did not want to face a southpaw and elected to fight Antoine Douglas. Frustrated but not deterred, Falcao kept training and hoped to face a fighter like O’Sullivan in the near future.

I te Mei 4, O’Sullivan was again slated as the co-feature for a televised card, this time on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

Hoping the second time would be a charm, Team Falcao made it clear they’d do whatever it took for the opportunity.

Kia aroha mai, O’Sullivan elected to face Berlin Abreu, a blown up welterweight that hadn’t fought in 18 marama.

To make matters worse, all but once of Abreu’s victories came in the Dominican Republic against opponents with a combined 15-266 record. O’Sullivan stopped his overmatched foe in three rounds. Multiple media outlets covering the fight reported it as a disappointing mismatch while noting O’Sullivan needs to face better opposition.

With a professional record of 28-2, O’Sullivan’s rated 5th i te WBO, 6th by the WBA and 11thi te WBC.

Falcao, 15-0 (7 KO o), believes he’s the superior boxer but hasn’t had the same chances as O’Sullivan and he’s literally willing to fight for the opportunity.

“Spike’s had a lot of favorable opportunities but when he has the chance to take on a tough challenge, he avoids it,” Falcao said from his training camp in Florida. “I twice tried to face him with no questions asked. Both times he refused to face me. I am ranked in the top 15 and you consider yourself a top fighter – why not face me? I’m ready to show the world that I’m an elite middleweight by challenging other top rated 160 pound fighters. My question to you Spike is why did you twice avoid the challenge for easier opponents? I want you to stop running from me – man up and fight me!"

Jody Caliguire, advisor for Team Falcao, has felt the same frustrations as his fighter and none of it has to do with their unwillingness.

“We’re ready for anybody on any platform. Yama has never turned down an opportunity and we’re always putting our name out there. Aside from Spike, we offered to face Demetrius Andrade, Gennady Golovkin, Jason Quigley and Danny Jacobs among others. None of those fights happened. We don’t need to have our record built up – we’re ready to face the best right now!"

Danny O'Connor
“Ko te katoa tenei e pā ana ki ahau whawhai i te tukanga. Gabriel Bracero beat me but I really beat myself. Just like training for this fight, we had a baby son. Two weeks before our first fight, my first son was born and I didn’t know how to separate sport from such life-changing events. Ko ahau 14-0 a whawhai i runga i Showtime. We just had a baby boy two weeks before this fight. I want to prove to myself that I can beat this process. Bracero is my redemption!
“Tenei whawhai ko ahau vs. ahau. The time was right for this fight. I was offered this fight five times during the past few years but the time wasn’t right.
I was a scared little kid with no experience in our first fight. I couldn’t handle the pressure, I didn’t even know it was there. Na, I’m a mature man who is a husband and father. I’m a totally different person.
This fight could be in my living room. I’m at peace in the ring doing what I love to do. It’s great being back in the ring in Lowell, te wahi i riro ahau i te New England Golden karapu taitara me Au whawhai ahau i runga i TV motu, engari te hui ko waenganui i te pito e wha, me e te aha tino e kiia.”
Gabriel BRACERO
“Au oaoa ahau. I’ve trained for this fight like I’ve never fought Danny before. I beat him but that was four years ago. I can’t overlook him. He has obviously made improvements and I did also to get where we are today.
“Ahau atu mātanga. I moved to train in Orlando and get away from distractions. I hit a few bumps and got incarcerated. Tommy Gallagher (kaiwhakangungu) saved my lie. He was there when I went to prison and there when I got out. I added a new trainer to our corner, Alexander Lopes, ko Tommy me toku papa, Kiro, are still there. Tommy gives the orders and he likes what Lopez has done with me.
Tommy Gallagher is my guardian angel. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. He had this vision before I did.
Danny has become a better fighter. E kore e taea te tango i ahau i tetahi mea atu i ia, engari te rapu atu ahau ki maka ana i runga i te mahi mīharo Rāhoroi po.”
A Honatana Guzmán
“Kei te haere ahau ki te hanga i te reira 20-no-20, ae! I’m powerful because I make strong moves. My left hook is my best punch. Ka patua e ahau tētahi matau ahau e taea e ite i te mana i roto i toku tinana katoa.
“E kore ahau e manukanuka ki toku hoa tauwhainga ranei te mea kei te mahi ia i roto i te mua.
Lawrence is my home now. I will go back to the Dominican Republic in December for the holidays. I feel like a Bostonian. This is the sixth fight I’ve trained here for and I love the Boston Red Sox.
Danny Aquino
“Ngoi toku whawhai whakamutunga ahau (inoino e te whakatau i runga i Ryan Kielczweski). It made me more confident in myself. Ko toku whawhai whakamutunga i runga i ESPN me tenei tetahi he i runga i NBCSN.
I don’t know too much about my opponent other than he has power that I’ll be looking out for. A win over him should put me in the top 10 me e te ahau te aha kia hihiri mo tenei whawhai.
“Riro ahau i te karapu taitara New England Golden i Lowell Memorial Auditorium i roto i 2007.
“Whakangungu ahau pakeke me au tonu ahau i roto i te pai te āhua nui ki te whiua te tangata.”
Ryan KIELCZWESKI
I like fighting at home and this is one of my favorite venues. I won the New England Golden Gloves there twice.
“Kua whakangungua e ahau ki a mo tenei te whawhai uaua o toku mahi.
“(Vasquez) is tough with a lot of power. He’s going come forward, engari ka taea ki te-pouaka i roto i a ia e ahau.
“Te whakatau ia i roto i te tihi 10 kia hoatu o te ao, me te wini ahau hoki i roto i te runga 10 whawhai hoki he taitara ao i roto i te tau i muri mai.”
Rafael Vasquez
“Ko te whai wāhitanga nui hoki ahau tenei. I think this fight will put me on the map fighting on national TV and showing fans what I’ve got.
“Ahau i te matekai ahau, small fighter determined to win. I fight for my wife, Sandra, nei atamira-wha mate pukupuku, me taku tamahine-tau waru-tau, Kaline, who has autism. It’s not just me fighting in the ring, it’s the Vasquez family. With God’s grace, Ko taea tetahi.
“Ryan turai te rota. He uses the ring and boxes. He lost to Aquino and I know he’ll be coming back to prove himself. “
GARY “Koi” O'Sullivan
“Boston is my second home. I love it here. The people are so nice and there are good gyms.
“Ahau he whakaongaonga, toa whakangahau e haere mai ana i nga wa katoa ki te whawhai.
“I muri whakaotia e ahau Eubanks, Ka waiho e ahau i te No. 1 e kore e taea e nguha i roto i te WBA me Golovkin mau ahau atu i muri.
“I watched a few clips of my opponent. We have identical records. We both knock people out, so I have to be careful. I’d like to get in a few rounds, engari ka patua e ahau te iwi, hinga ratou.”
Stephen Ormond
“My first four fights were here in the US. Boston is like my second home. The people are so nice. Boston is a real fight city. I can’t wait for these people to see me in the ring.
“I saw my opponent fight last year in Boston. He’s an experienced guy with a lot of fights. He fought for a world title a long time ago.
“Ki te Ken Casey i muri i ahau, an impressive victory will get me a title shot. I’ll take any of them. Ko tetahi whawhai atu ahau, losing a qualifier. My grandmother passed away the day of my fight. I’m ready now!”
