VERONA, N.Y.. (Nov. 4, 2019) — Two of the light heavyweight’s division’s most explosive fighters are set for a fistic shootout Saturday, Jan. 18, as former world champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez will face Michael “Cannon Handz” Seals at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

The 10-round showdown will be contested for the vacant WBC Continental Americas title, and the winner is expected to challenge for a world title in 2020.

Alvarez-Seals and a co-feature will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+, the leading multi-sport streaming service, incipientibus ab Hierosolyma 10 p.m. ET / VII p.m. PT. Undercard bouts will stream live on ESPN+ starting at 6:30 p.m. AND / III:30 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Groupe Yvon Michel, tickets priced at $89, $75, $69, $62, $59 and $40 go on sale Friday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. ET and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Resort Box Office, charge by phone by calling 800.771.7711 online aut adTicketmaster.

“This is a fantastic fight, a true 50-50 matchup featuring two of the division’s best punchers,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “The light heavyweight division is on fire right now, and the winner will be in a tremendous position.”

“I am very happy to get back in the ring after this long layoff,” Alvarez said. “I am looking at Jan. 18 to reboot my career against a strong puncher, Michael Seals, and begin my campaign to once again be on top of the boxing world. I have a lot of respect for my opponent, but in 2020, nothing will stop me from becoming a world champion again.”

“First, I would like to thank Top Rank and ESPN for giving Eleider this opportunity, as well as a plan to be very active in 2020,” said Yvon Michel, Alvarez’s co-promoter. “Eleider had a great run before his last fight, beating three former or current world champions in a row: Lucian Bute, Jean Pascal and Sergey Kovalev. The defeat in his rematch with Kovalev was very painful, but also a great learning lesson. Eleider Alvarez belongs with the elite of the light heavyweight division, and he will prove it starting Jan. 18 in Verona.”

“Uncle Bob and Brad Goodman are giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, and I am going to put on a show for them,” Seals said. “Everyone knows that going the distance is against my religion. I’m going to bring the heat, and that’s no secret. Alvarez made a huge mistake in accepting me for his ‘comeback fight.’ When you sign a contract with me, I’m trying to force-feed you some ZzzQuil. This is a tune-up for him but everything for me. I’m not an opponent for the top fighters. I am a top fighter. I want a world title shot, and I won’t let this guy get in the way. He had his time. It’s my time.”

Alvarez (24-1, 12 KOs), the Colombian-born, Montreal-based boxer-puncher has not fought since Feb. 2, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Sergey Kovalev six months after knocking him out to win the WBO light heavyweight world title. Alvarez’s long layoff is due to a torn foot ligament he suffered in training earlier this year. He hopes a win over Seals will earn him another crack at world championship glory.

Seals (24-2, 18 KOs), a Mobile, Alabama, native who played collegiate football at Alabama A&M, is still one of the division’s heaviest hitters at 37 annorum. An 11-year pro, Seals has been involved in many memorable brawls, includens 2015 Fight of the Year contender versus Edwin Rodriguez that included five knockdowns in three rounds. Despite falling short versus Rodriguez, Seals’ reputation as a fan-friendly was solidified. Horatius in ordine quattuor, including three by knockout in either first or second round. He is coming off a one-punch, first-round knockout Oct. 18 in Philadelphia against Elio Trosch.

Umar Salamov Challenges Light Heavyweight Champions Bivol and Alvarez

Russian light heavyweight contender Umar Salamov (21-1, 16 KOs) is issuing a challenge to newly crowned WBO Champ Eleider Alvarez and WBA ruler Dmitry Bivol.

While many of the top 175-lb fighters would prefer to avoid Alvarez and Bivol, two of the hardest punchers in the division, the 24-year-old Salamov says he’s up for the challenge any time.

Both Alvarez and Bivol appeared on national television over the weekend, with Alvarez scoring an upset KO over Sergei Kovalev and Bivol defending his title with a lackluster decision over Isaac Chilemba.

“I saw their fights and I can confidently tell you that when I get my opportunity, I will dethrone both Bivol and Alvarez,” said Salamov. “I am the best light heavyweight in the world and look forward to proving it to the boxing fans by fighting the best!"

IBF #11- and WBO #15-rated Salamov was last seen in June, scoring a highlight reel ninth-round knockout over Brian Howard, live on Showtime. The impressive victory won him the vacant IBF North American Championship. In his young career, he has also already won the IBO Youth and World Light Heavyweight, WBO Youth World, European and International, and the IBF East/West Europe Light Heavyweight Championships.

“After his US debut in June, I am very confident that it’s just a matter of time before he wins a World light Heavyweight title,” said his co-promoter, Dmitriy Salita (along with Kazbek Aslambekov of KA-Promotions). “At only 24 annorum, and with the amount of talent and experience he has, the sky is the limit for Umar in the light heavyweight division.”

Salamov is currently training in Detroit at the Kronk Boxing Gym. His next fight will be announced shortly.

MONTREAL (May 30, 2017) – WBC Light Heavyweight World Champion Adonis Stevenson and Andrzej Fonfara sounded off at the final press conference on Tuesday at Montreal Casino for their 175-pound rematch hoc Saturday vivere in SHOWTIME ab Bell Center.

WBC lux Heavyweight No. 1 contender Eleider Alvarez and former 175-pound champ Jean Pascal also faced off for their co-featured bout that opens the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast live at 9 p.m. ATQUE/6 p.m. PT.

Both Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) and Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) scored knockdowns in their all-action meeting in 2014, the only time Stevenson has been down in his eight world title fights since winning the WBC belt in 2013. While the local Montreal favorite was pushed the distance in his first bout with Fonfara, he has scored knockouts in five of his seven title defenses and stated on Tuesday that he expects a knockout in the rematch.

Since the close loss to Stevenson in 2014, Fonfara sustulit vincit contra Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Nathan Lepide et Chad Dawson, et intrat rematch cum novo magistro, nobilis Virgilius Venator.

ADONIS STEVENSON

"Paratus sum quod novi Fonfara periculosum est". Nos eum non minoris aestimamus. Paravi omnia, omnia quae anulum profert parata ero.

"Ego exerceo ad knockout". Emanuel Senescallus semper dixit mihi 'stimulos vendere.'

"Video quaedam res in anulo uti possum".

"Ego prima pugna vicit, et ego novi illum optime. Scio quid possit facere. Scio mutata magistri. Vergilius Venator multum experientia, Scio docet Andre Ward, et scio ipsum intelligentem.

"Scio Andrzej Fonfara from 12 rounds in anulum. Stylum suum nunc mutare non potest. Ut ostenderet aliquam defensionem emendatam, sed post duos orbes vetus Fonfara . erit.

"Haec pugna erit alia".

"Meum propositum est titulis uniendis cum victoris of" (Sergey) Kovalev and (Other) Ward. Volo adunationem, sin minus, faciam mandata mea. Si Ward vincit volo pugnare eum, Si Kovalev vincit volo pugnare eum. Paratus sum. "

Andrzej Fonfara

"Ego multo smarter Pugnator nunc". Mentaliter, Sum valde fortis et smarter.

"Ego meliorem me". Publius Vergilius Maro (Venator) docuit me multum novum supellectilem. Nunc paratus sum omnia in hac pugna ostendere.

"Ego multum prosperi contra southpaws habui". Mihi placet pugnando eos. Ceadda Dawson erat southpaw, ut duo ultimis proeliis, quattuor mensibus, paravimus solum southpaws.

"Paratus sum optime Cicero.

"Mea castra bene. Sparring erat magna. Secunda plena castra cum Virgilio Venator est et multum emendavimus cum prima pugna.

"Non possum eadem facere errata in prima pugna egi". Pugnandum est multo smarter.

"Stevenson solum habet bonam manum sinistram".

“I’m ready to take the title. Tempus meum venit.

"Paratus sum ut sis novi mundi propugnator et id faciam Saturday nox. Vult KO, et vis KO*, quoque.

"Vereor eum quod campus est". Veni huc ut ostenderet, hoc tempore, Melior sum pugnator".

ELEIDER ALVAREZ

“He has a lot of experience, but experience can be negative sometimes. Ipse suus expertus, but he has negative experiences and losses, quoque. I don’t think it will be a factor Saturday nox.

“My style will be an advantage. I’m taller, I have a longer reach, and a better jab. My footwork is better, quoque. So I think my style is my advantage.

“I’m fully ready for my title shot. I’ve been ready for 18 mensibus, but for some reason it didn’t happen. I’m ready to face everybody. I’m probably in the toughest division in boxing right now, but once Stevenson comes I’ll be ready.

“I didn’t wait 18 months to become a world champion for nothing. I won’t give a victory to Pascal. I’ve waited for 18 months for my chance and I won’t give it to Pascal.

“Sparring with him (Paschalis) is an advantage, but it was a long time ago and now he’s changed teams. So I don’t know what he’s done in his training camp this time.

“Marc (Ramsay) taught me some tricks, but I already know Jean Pascal because I trained with him and sparred with him for a while. It’s an advantage to have Marc, but it can be different and you never know what he’ll bring to the ring this time around.”

JEAN PASCAL

“Winning is the only option for me.

“I’ve been in some battles, but my tank is still full.

“I’ve faced way better opposition than him. Ive 'been ibi, done that on the big stage. This is a big, big fight, and I’ve been here before. That’s the thing with experience – you can’t buy experience. You have to live it, et multoties vixi. Paratus sum iterum in scaena magna esse.

"Exercitatio castra ad rem bene". Fui apud Roy Jones Jr. et Stephane Larouche et mansimus in Montreal pro totis castris v. Laesiones nullas habuimus et ire parati sumus on Saturday.

"parcere cum Alvarez mihi commodum non est". Novissimo tempore ei pepercimus sicut ante duos aut tres annos. Scio eum, sed scit me quoque. Habeo etiam duos in me percutit - bene me novit, sed raeda eius me memoriter cognoscit quod ille raeda mea prior est. Nihil horum. Duis congue sem meam feci et quid in anulo facere scio.

"Nunc mihi focus in Alvarez". Postquam referendarius manum levat et quid proximum videbimus."

MONTREAL (Aprilis 21, 2017) – Lux WBC Heavyweight Mundus Champion Adonis “Superman” Flaccus will take-on hard-hitting Polish contender Fonfara Andrzej in rematch eorum 2014 slugfest on Saturday, June 3 in casu main VINDICIAE SHOWTIME BOXING, presented by Premier Boxing Propugnatores, live on SHOWTIME from the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Flaccus (28-1, 23 KOs) and Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs) battled at Bell Centre on May 24, 2014 as Stevenson was able to survive a knockdown late in the fight to win a decision and defend his belt for the third time. Both men threw huge shots all the way until the final bell and will look to pick up where they left off on June 3.
I’m very excited for this rematch with Fonfara, but it is going to be a short night for him because they don’t pay me for overtime,” said Stevenson. “I’m very happy to be back in the ring for my first fight of 2017. I can’t wait to fight in front of my hometown fans at the Bell Centre. The first time I fought Fonfara was at the Bell Centre in 2014 and now we’re back doing it for a second time. I will put on a great, exciting show for the fans in my hometown, and for the fans on SHOWTIME.
I feel good that I’m back here after three years,” said Fonfara. “I’m ready for revenge. I’m a different fighter physically and mentally. I’ve shown in a couple of fights that I’m a better fighter. It’s a great opportunity to get the rematch and be a world champion. The last fight against Chad Dawson gave me experience because it was very technical. But really all the fights since thenJulio Chavez, Jr., Nathan Cleverly and even Joe Smithhave helped me prepare for Stevenson again. I changed my team, got a new coach and a trainer, which makes me physically and mentally where I need to be for this fight. I don’t have a problem fighting in Montreal. I love Montreal. It’s a beautiful city with beautiful people. It will be a great night of boxing and I’m sure that I will be victorious on the night of June 3.”

This is one of the best shows in Quebec in a long time,” dictus Yvon Michel, Praeses GYM. “It’s the kind of event that will inject some adrenaline into boxing in Quebec. We have two fights that could be main events anywhere in the world and on any network. Adonis will defend his title for the eighth time. To be a world champion for four years is exceptional. Fonfara has a style that can give Adonis some problems.
In the co-main event we have a former world champion in Pascal who still believes he can be world champion. He will have a tough assignment with Alvarez, a fighter who just proved he belongs with the best in the world with his win over Lucian Bute. If he beats Pascal he will have beaten two of the best stars that Canada has ever produced in back-to-back fights. He will prove to be a threat to anyone in the future.
We’re really looking forward to taking on Stevenson at the Bell Centre in Montreal on SHOWTIME,” dixit Leon Margules, Praeses Bellatores Boxing, Fonfara’s promoter. “Andrzej was just 26-years-old when they fought last time and it was a big step up for him. We believe he’s now ready to win because he has gained a significant amount of experience in matches with Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., Nathan Lepide et Chad Dawson. We’re thrilled to be given the opportunity to fight Stevenson for the world title for a second time.
Stevenson won the world light heavyweight title in June of 2013 in Montrealensi, LXXVI-secundus a via sensational, first-round knockout over the then-undisputed king of the division Chad Dawson. In infigo victoriam meruit Flaccus “Anni Knockout” atque “Pugnatore Anni” accolades. Inde, Stevenson went on to record stoppage victories over Tavoris Cloud and Tony Bellew in addition to the decision over Fonfara. Natus in Haiti, sed proeliati de Quebec, Stevenson defended his title twice in 2015 before making the seventh defense of his belt in an exciting firefight with Thomas Williams Jr. that ended with a fourth-round knockout for the reigning champion. The lineal 175-pound champion trains out of the late Emanuel Steward’s Kronk Gym with his head trainer Sugar Hill.
Now training in Oakland with Virgil Hunter, Fonfara enters this bout coming off of a 10th-round stoppage victory over former world champion Chad Dawson in March at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The fighter out of Warsaw, Poland bounced back from his defeat to Stevenson with a TKO victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and a decision over Nathan Cleverly in a 2015 Fight of the Year contender. Ad XXIX annorum sibi et primus 13 fights after moving up to light heavyweight in 2010 including wins over Gabriel Campillo, Glen Johnson and Tommy Karpency.
A 2008 Colombian Olympio pugnandi de Montrealensi, Alvarez worked his way into the mandatory position for the WBC title with victories over Isidro Ranoni Prieto and Isaac Chilemba in 2015. He followed those up with wins over Robert Berridge and Norbert Dabrowski before his most recent matchup that saw him deliver a sensation fifth round knockout over former world champion Lucian Bute.
Originally from Haiti, Pascal and his family moved to Canada when he was a child and began boxing at the age of 13. He would eventually become one of the most accomplished fighters from Montreal. Pascal became a world champion in 2009 when he defeated previously unbeaten Adrian Diaconu. He would go on to defend the title three times, inter victoriam Chad Dawson. After losing his title to Bernard Hopkins, Pascal has picked up victories over Lucian Bute, Yuniesky Gonzalez and most recently Ricardo Ramallo in addition to two challenges of former unified world champion Sergey Kovalev.

Howard Grant, Bute’s trainer: ”Lucian had the best camp of his career. He had more energy in this camp than in the ones for James DeGale and Badou Jack. He had good sparring also and he will be ready Friday nocte.”
Marc Ramsay, Alvarez trainer: ”This is the third time in his career that Alvarez has been called out after a sparring session. First it was Andrew Gardinerand he was stunned by Eleider in the ninth round of the fight. He was never the same after that, got knocked out by an unknown fighter, and retired. Than it was Nicholson Poulard. He was KO’ed in the third round and he retired after that. Lucian asked Eleider for a fight after seeing a sparring between Alvarez and a fighter from the Grant Brothers Gym. He intends to deliver the goods Friday. They asked for Alvarez, they will have Alvarez.
