Greg Cohen Promotions Signs Super Middleweight Derrick Webster to a Promotional Contract

Greg Cohen Promotions proudly announces the signing of once-beaten super middleweight Derrick “Take It to The Bank” Webster.

 

 

 

Glassboro, New Jersey’s Webster (28-1, 14 KOS) stands an enormous 6’ 4”, with fast and powerful hands. The naturally athletic southpaw only had 40 amateur fights and didn’t even start boxing until age 24 but picked up the sport very quickly.

 

 

 

Unlike most world-class fighters, Webster is a successful home-remodeling and construction business owner. He also played power forward for two seasons for the University of Maryland basketball while earning a bachelor’s degree in Juvenile Criminal Justice.

 

 

 

"Bu ajoyib his,” said Webster of the signing. “I feel like I belong on this level. I have a different story from the people I’m around. They’ve been fighting since they were kids. I didn’t pick up gloves until I was 24. For me to be here, with people who have been fighting all their lives… I’ve already reached a level a lot of guys never reach.”

 

 

 

Webster says trusting the wrong people made for a tough road earlier in his career, but he’s ready for a run at a world championship now that he has father figure/trainer Denny Brown and the experienced promoter Cohen on his side.

 

 

 

“From early on, people have been promising this and promising that. I’m past that point. I deal with that earlier in my career. I don’t have the patience to be playing around anymore. Greg says we’re fighting December 1 and then we will come back and fight again early next year. I expect to break into the world ratings and take my shot at a world championship.”

 

 

 

Webster is unique in that he’s not financially dependent on boxing. All of his sacrifice and work is done because he wants to.

 

 

 

“A lot of guys fight because they need it for their identity. I am successful in business already. I have built myself up as a brand. I have businesses that are doing well. Boxing just adds to my life. I still act. I do modelling. I don’t have to worry about money in boxing.”

 

 

 

Cohen says he’ll act quickly with Webster to get him into position for a world championship challenge.

 

 

 

“Derrick is a unique talent who is overdue for a big fight. With almost no previous experience, he has worked his way to a 28-1 record with solid wins over several reliable veterans. At the top of his potential, he can be a super middleweight version of (former welterweight champion) Pol Uilyam. He’s a smart and naturally talented fighter with excellent potential to become a force at 168 lbs.”

Webster decisions Riojas in Atlantic City Wins by Seldon, Ajamu, Wikins and Manzueta

Atlantic City, Nyu-Jersi (Iyun 1, 2018)–Super Middleweight Derrick Webster pounded his way to a 10-round unanimous decision over Oscar Riojas in the main event of a five-bout card at Cyrij mehmonxonasi.

 

 

 

Mis Downing Promotions promoted the near-capacity show.

 

 

 

G'alaba bilan, Webster captured the American Boxing Federation Continental Americas Super Middleweight title.

 

 

 

Webster was pinpoint with his jab, which he followed with a solid body work that reddened the sides of Riojas. Webster stunned the gritty Riojas on several occasions, but the visitor from Monterrey, Mexico showed a good chin and remained on his feet for the ten-round bout.

 

 

 

Scores were all 100-90 in favor of Webster of Glassboro, Nyu-Jersi, kim endi 26-1. Riojas is 16-10-1.

Isiah Seldon scored two knockdowns en-route to a six-round unanimous decision over Lamar Harris in a super middleweight bout.

 

 

 

Turda to'rt yilda, Seldon landed a perfect counter right that sent Harris to the deck. Turda besh yilda, it was another right that mad Harris’ glove touch the canvas for a 2nd time.

 

 

 

Seldon of Atlantic City won by scores of 60-52 ikki marta va 59-53 va hozir 12-1-1. Harris of St. Louis is 9-15-4.

 

 

 

Shahzoda Badi Ajammu won a eight-round unanimous decision over Edgar Perez in a cruiserweight rematch. Ajamu of Camden, New Jersey won by scores of 80-72 ikki marta va 79-73 uchun uning belgisini yuksaltirish 29-4-1. Perez of Chicago is 7-25.

 

Jeyms Uilkins stopped Joe Gbola at the end of round two of their scheduled four-round featherweight bout.

Atlantic City, Nyu-Jersi (Avgust 5, 2017)–Derrick Webster continued his quest towards a world title shot by taking out Lamar Harris in a scheduled eight-round super middleweight bout that headlined a six-bout card at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.
The show was promoted by Mis Downing Promotions in association with Square Ring Promotions.

Webster dropped Harris at the end of round one as he landed a perfect straight left hand. After that it was a matter of when Webster would end the night., as Harris was hurt, but came out to endure 28 seconds of pounding before the bout was stopped.
Webster, 167.8 lbs of Glassboro, NJ endi 24-1 bilan 13 knockouts. Harris, 167.9 lbs of Saint Louis, Missouri is now 9-14-4.
“We have been working hard, and now I am looking for a title. I want George Groves,” Webster dedi.
“I knew after I dropped him after the first round, the fight would be over soon thereafter. I know Groves is in the tournament, so why not Badou Jack. I would love to fight him.”

Zhilei dropped Guivas in the first frame with a hard six-punch combination in the corner. Seconds later, Zhilei finsihed off the fight with a crushing four-punch combination on the ropes and the bout was stopped at 2:43.

Zhilei, 254.8 lbs of Zhoukou, China is now 17-0 bilan 13 knockouts. Guivalar, 238 lbs of Topeka, KS is 13-8-2.

Mayk Xilton went the distance for the first time, but still came out with the six-round unanimous decision over Willis Lockett in a cruiserweight bout.

Atlantic City, Nyu-Jersi (Avgust 2, 2017)–Yilda 2009, and after winning two in a row, Light Heavyweight contender Shahzoda Badi Ajammu walked away from the ring at age 37.
Ajamu, who was a perennial contender had a record of 27-3-1 bilan 15 knockouts, but decided that he needed some time away from competitive action.
Fast forward eight years, Ajamu steps back in the ring as he takes on Edgar Perez in the six-round co-feature bout bu Shanba tun da Claridge Hotel ichida Atlantic City.

Ajamu, hozir 45 years-old of Camden, New Jersey has kept in great shape while away from the squared circle.
“I have been helping people in the gym the whole time, and I decided that if I am putting time in that, I mind as well get back in there and do this on my own,” said Ajamu.
Ajamu also believes that being in the ring will also help fight for a cause that he has been involved with for sometime.
“What better way to bring attention to child abduction, which is a big problem in this country then to be in the ring and help get the message out there.”
Ajamu said that at age 45 that this is not a one-and-done situation, as he plans to stick around for specific purposes.
“The goal is take this as far as I can. I want to win another title and tie another Camden legend, “Jersey” Joe Walcott,” said the former Pennsylvania, IBC Inter-Continental, WBC Continental Americas, WBC Caribbean, , WBO NABO and World Boxing Foundation Light Heavyweight champion.
Another goal is a rematch with legendary Roy Jones, Jr.
Jones defeated Ajamu in 2006, and its’s more than a coincidence that Jones will be in a attendance as a co-promoter for the event.
“Yes there is definitely a reason why I am on this card, and Roy is co-promoting, but I have to get past Perez. I know he is a tough fighter who comes forward, and he is capable as I know Lavarn Harvell who was undefeated at the time that he beat him.”
“I have been in the gym, and have been working on things. You will see a more technical version of me,. Like I said I been in the gym, and now I want to use the energy on something significant.”
Also on the bill will be former United States Olympian Terecean kauten (36-8, 9 KO) Trenton, NJ kurashadi Nik Vallière (5-2, 2 KO) Forked River, New Jersey in a six-round super welterweight bout.

World-Ranked Heavyweight, Zhang Zhilei (16-0, 12 KOS) of Las Vegas via China, and is ranked number-13 by the WBO will take on Nik Guivas (13-7-2, 9 KO) Topeka of, Kansas.

Atlantic City, Nyu-Jersi (Avgust 1, 2017)–Super o'rta vaznli raqib Derrick Webster is looking to fight the elite of the division, but he first first must get by Lamar Harris in a scheduled eight-round bout that will headline a big night of boxing at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, Nyu-Jersi.

Webster has been on a roll, and now he looks to continue his momentum against Harris.
“I really don’t know much about him. I just know that he knows that he is fighting me. I don’t know him, but I am sure he knows who I am,” Webster dedi.
Webster attributes his most recent success to a more active schedule as this will be his 3rd fight of this year and 5th fight in the last 14 oy.
“The more that I fight, the more consistent that I am. When I had other people in charge of my career, I was fighting less frequent. Maybe fighting every six or seven months. Now I have been more active and that goes hand in hand with my performances. I was getting in the ring to trying shake off ring-rust and now I am going in there not worrying about that.”
Webster is not overlooking Harris, but He is looking to close of 2017 fighting higher level of opponents, va 2018 looking for a big title shot.
“My target is WBA champion George Groves. I never wanted to face Harris. I wanted to fight guys with better records and for many reasons including opponents pricing themselves out, but guys won’t fight me. I do appreciate that Harris stepped up for the challenge so I respect him for that. Hopefully I can fight someone like Mike Tiberi next for a major regional title, then have my eye towards a world title in 2018.”
