(Tachwedd 21, 2017) – Cyn-bencampwr byd Dyfnaint Alexander (27-4, 14 Kos) returned to the ring in impressive style as he dominated Walter Castillo (26-5-1, 19 Kos) on his way to a unanimous decision in the main event of Hyrwyddwyr Bocsio Premier DYDD MAWRTH TRAED-TO-TRAED ar FS1 aHyrwyddwyr Bocsio ar Deportes FOX Dydd Mawrth night from The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
“This feels really good,” meddai Alexander. “I’ve been on a journey that I didn’t expect to go through and I’m thankful to be back in the ring and have my career back.”
Returning to the ring for the first time mewn dwy flynedd, Alexander was sharp from the outset, using the skills that made him a two-division champion to befuddle Castillo. Alexander’s jab found its’ range from the beginning and he slowly began to work in straight left hands that he would land frequently to maintain control of the action.
“My coach was telling me to pick it up throughout the fight,” meddai Alexander. “The rust got to me a little bit. I know that I can be more active. I really started to feel warmed up later in the fight. I know that I can do way better but I was happy to have this experience.”
Yn rownd dau, Alexander scored a highlight reel knockdown of Castillo as he landed a powerful par of straight left hands sandwich around a right uppercut. Castillo continued to try to walk Alexander down and stayed persistent in throwing power punches as much as he could over the course of the fight.
“He kept moving side to side and didn’t really stay in there and fight,” meddai'r Castillo. “I wanted him to run less but I just kept coming forward trying to throw punches. I got dazed a little from the knockdown but nothing bad. That was more about his speed.”
Alexander proved to be too sharp throughout the welterweight affair, consistently avoiding Castillo’s big punches and delivering his own varied and effective attack. Ar ôl 10 rowndiau, Alexander was officially back in the win column with a unanimous decision by scores of 100-89 ddwywaith ac 96-93.
“I love doing what I do,” meddai Alexander. “This is what I was born to do since I was seven-years-old. I’m thankful to be back doing what I love.
“I’m going to talk to my coach and my team and see what we can come up with next. I’m ready to fight anybody out there. I don’t have any cuts so I’m ready. I’m on a journey and I’m thankful to be here.”
The opening bout of the telecast saw unbeaten Miguel Cruz (17-0, 11 Kos) earn a close unanimous decision over David Grayton (15-2-1, 11 Kos) in a competitive welterweight clash.
Both fighters took their time getting started in round one before Grayton broke through in round two and stunned Cruz against the ropes late in the round. Cruz bounced back in round three landing a right hand late in the third round that forced Grayton to tie up and eventually tackle Cruz to the canvas in order to survive the round.
Cruz suffered his first cut of the fight during the round three exchange but fought through the wound under his right eye and dropped Grayton with a jab early in round six to score a crucial knockdown. The intensity of the fight continued into the eighth round when Grayton began to tee-off on Cruz as blood poured from a second cut, this one above Cruz’s right eye.
The back and forth battle continued until the final bell, with both men throwing wildly as the referee attempted to break up the action. Ar ôl 10 rounds all three judges saw the fight in favor of Cruz by the score of 96-93.

The 30-year-old Alexander (26-4, 14 Kos) will end a two-year layoff due to health issues when he steps in against Castillo. Alexander, St. Louis, Missouri, won the 147-pound world championship with a unanimous decision victory over Randall Bailey in 2012. He lost the title via unanimous decision against Shawn Porter the next year. Alexander, a southpaw, was a unified champion at 140-pounds and owns victories over Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Jesus Soto Karass.
“Two years is a long time to be away from something you love but I wanted to make sure when I come back that I would be 100 percent my old self,” meddai Alexander. “My last outings were not me, and a lot of my fans and people that know me are aware of that. I’ve been in constant training since then while getting my personal situation in order. Castillo is a good solid fight that is going to bring the best skills out of me. He’s not a slouch and he’s coming to fight. But it’s not about what Castillo coming to do. After campaigning the last few years at 140 bunnoedd, Castell (26-4-1, 19 Kos) is stepping up to 147 pounds to take on the former champion Alexander. The 29-year-old Castillo, o Managua, Nicaragua, will be ending a 16-month layoff onTachwedd 21. Castillo lost by TKO to Sergey Lipinets in a 140-pound clash his last time out after previously fighting to a draw against Keita Obara in a title eliminator.
“I think this could be one of my last great opportunities and I’m very excited for it,” meddai'r Castillo. “Devon Alexander is a great boxer and I will have to be at my very best. The unbeaten Cruz (16-0, 11 Kos) has been very busy in 2017 as he steps into the ring for his fourth fight this year. The 27-year-old welterweight from St. Mary, Florida scored a unanimous decision victory over Alex Martin in a rematch in his last fight on Mehefin 27 after earning a split-decision in their first fight and beating Ali Mammadov in between.
The 30-year-old Grayton (15-1-1, 11 Kos) is coming off a technical draw against former champion Kermit Cintron in his last fight on Mawrth 17. Grayton, Washington D.C., suffered the only loss of his career when he was stopped by technical knockout by Bryant Perrella on June 4, 2016 before returning to defeat Kareem Martin in August last year leading up to the Cintron fight.

Perrella training hard; aiming for a knockout

Fort Myers, FL (Medi 13, 2016) – Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella will look to take another step up the welterweight ladder when he faces contender Yordenis Ugas Dydd Mawrth, Medi 27 at the Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino in Santa Fe, NM.
The bout is scheduled for ten rounds and is the main event of Premier Boxing Champions’ “Toe to Toe Tuesday” series on Fox Sports 1.
Ugas, who captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics for his native Cuba, yn 16-3 gyda 7 wins by knockout as a professional. Ar Awst 12, Ugas soundly defeated previously unbeaten Jamal James over ten rounds. The well-schooled Cuban has never been stopped and two of his defeats came via split decision.
To prepare for the challenge, Perrella’s been training with world class fighters from all over the world. The Fort Myers native has put in additional time in all aspects of his training from bag work to cardio, strength training and sparring. Perrella-Ugas set for September 27

Fort Myers, FL (Awst 25, 2016) – Hard-hitting welterweight standout Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella will challenge Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas over ten roundsDydd Mawrth, Medi 27.

The bout will air on Fox Sports 1 as part of Premier Boxing Champions’ “Toe-to-Toe Dydd Mawrth” series.

Perrella and Ugas were slated to meet August 12 but the bout was surprisingly scrapped by the athletic commission just days before the opening bell.

The fighting pride of Fort Myers, FL, Perrella burst onto the national scene with a second round knockout of David Grayton Mehefin 2 ar ESPN. The 27-year-old has an excellent 14-0 record gyda 13 victories coming by knockout. A 6’0 southpaw, Perrella’s displayed excellent power in both hands and stopped five of his last six foes within two rounds.

Born and raised in Cuba but fighting out of Miami, FL, Ugas garnered international attention as an amateur by capturing a bronze medal in the 2008 Gemau Olympaidd. He won many tournaments and regularly defeated top fighters from across the globe. As a pro, Ugas owns a solid 16-3 ledger and has 7 wins by KO. Ar Awst 12, the crafty Cuban outworked previously unbeaten Jamal James (20-0) en route to an impressive unanimous decision.

Perrella, who was ready willing and able to fight August 12, saw Ugas’ victory over James and has even more motivation to win in dominant fashion September 27.

Team Perrella Reflects on Commission Cancelling Ugas Fight

Fort Myers, FL (Awst 10, 2016) – With his grueling training camp completed, undefeated welterweight rising star Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella was ready to fly to Verona, NY and enter the ring Dydd Gwener evening for a nationally televised fight against 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yordenis Ugas.
Yn anffodus, his fight with Ugas was unjustifiably cancelled by the Oneida Indian Athletic Commission.
During Perrella’s Mehefin 4 second round knockout of David Grayton, he suffered a thumb injury. While receiving a standard post fight visit from Quebec Athletic Commission officials, they took note of the injury. When the Ugas fight was scheduled, Quebec’s notes on Perrella were sent to the Oneida Commission. In order to face Ugas, Perrella was told that he must receive approval from a doctor. The 27-year-old twice visited a hand specialist, receiving formal written clearance to fight August 12. Team Perrella submitted the paperwork to the Oneida Commission and were prepared to put on a show Dydd Gwener gyda'r nos. Surprisingly, the commission refused to license him even with formal clearance.
"I’ve been involved in combat sports most of my adult life and thought I’d seen it all but this is without question a first,” said Perrella’s trainer Michael Nowling. “Bryant had a really good camp and we were both confident that this performance would get him to the next level but now we’ve got to wait for another fight date. This is extremely unfair because Bryant had medical clearance like they had requested but the commission inexplicably decided to cancel the bout on a few days notice. I’m looking forward to getting out next date and even with this mishap I’m still a believer that everything happens for a reason.”
Perrella, who was looking to go 15-0 and become the first man to stop the crafty Ugas, is disappointed but took the high road.
"I was ready to go. I was approved to fight by a hand specialist but the commission’s doctor had the ultimate decision and decided otherwise. We feel that this would’ve been my most spectacular performance to date but I’m no stranger to obstacles being put in my path. It develops character. I believe everything happens for a reason and God has other plans for me. This only added fuel to the fire. A beast just got released and cannot be tamed. I’ll be bigger, badder and better than ever when I get back in that ring!"

Living and fighting out of Fort Myers, FL, Perrella burst onto the national scene by scoring a second round stoppage of previously unbeaten David Grayton Mehefin 4 ar ESPN. Perrella, 14-0 (13 KO yn), followed his victory with a memorable post fight interview where he emphatically stated he’s ready to fight the best in the welterweight division.

Outside of the ring Perrella is literally a good fella, living a clean lifestyle while giving back to the community by participating in different charitable causes.

Perrella back in training; excited for next Opportunity

Fort Myers, FL (Mehefin 22, 2016) – Welterweight rising star Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella has returned to the gym and is training in anticipation of his next bout.
Ar Fehefin 4, Perrella destroyed previously unbeaten two time National Golden Gloves champion David Grayton on ESPN. Rather than go on vacation or celebrate his victory, Perrella immediately wanted to resume training. At the advice of his team, he took a short period of time off before getting back into the gym less than two weeks after his career best victory.

Even though he’s currently waiting to get the word on his next fight date, the 27-year-old Fort Myers native believes he’ll be in another televised bout in the coming months. Naturally, his immediate goal is to raise his record to 15-0 while continuing to fight his way into the upper echelon of the 147 is-adran punt.

“I live, eat and sleep boxing,” said Perrella. “This is what I do for a living and I take my career seriously. Since I’m moving up and believe I’m ready to take a big step forward in the welterweight division, there’s no time to waste. I don’t have any vices and stay in shape year round. The 31-year-old Beterbiev (10-0, 10 Kos), who fights out of Montreal, returned to the ring after an almost year-long layoff following shoulder surgery. Now seven months removed from the procedure, Beterbiev looked sharp from the opening bell as he threw straight right hands and body shots effectively to start the fight.
Maderna, who was also coming off of a long layoff, was hoping to make a statement in his first fight on North American soil as he moved up in weight for this bout. Beterbiev utilized his power and precision to control the entire fight, but kicked it into high gear in the third round, sending the 29-year-old Maderna to the canvas with two right hands. At the start of round four, Maderna was dropped with a punishing right hand. He rose to his feet only find himself canvas agan, looking at his corner, they threw in the towel and the fight was stopped at 54 seconds of round four.
”I am really satisfied by my performance,” said Beterbiev. “I want to thank my team for their patience during my inactivity.”
”My guy did really well after an absence of a year,” said Beterbiev’s trainer Marc Ramsay. “He is very special. In a short or medium period of time, we want to fight in a world championship.”
The PBC on ESPN telecast, which is the first of seven between Mehefin 4 ac Awst 12, opened with two welterweight southpaws facing off in hopes of maintaining their undefeated records. Grayton was more active at the beginning of the fight, working his right hand on the inside. Perrella used his longer reach and height difference to his advantage as he did his best to dictate the pace. Perrella knocked Grayton down in the beginning of the second round and became forceful with the right hand as Grayton left himself open to punishment. “He came in real tough – a tough competitor,” meddai'r Perrella. “I was the best man tonight. I caught him with some really hard shots, dazed him. I took my time, I listened to what my team said and got him out of there.
“This is tremendous,” Perella continued. “This is what we’ve been wanting for a while to fight another undefeated prospect and get the recognition we feel we deserve. The welterweight division is filled with lions, tigers and bears, but I’m Tarzan baby. I’m the king of this jungle. I’m ready for whatever.”
Also featured on the telecast was a six-round super welterweight contest between prospect Jamontay Clark (10-0, 6 Kos) of Cincinnati and Mexican warrior Edgar Ortega (16-6, 10 Kos). The game Ortega shocked the six-foot-two Clark in the first round, sending him to the canvas with a hard right hand. Clark regained his composure in between the first and second, controlling the fight from then on. Despite taking the fight with nine days’ rhybudd, Ortega stayed with Clark all six rounds, even rolling his ankle in the fourth. After the final bell rung, Clark remained undefeated, registering a unanimous decision victory with the judges scoring the bout 58-55 ac 58-54 (ddwywaith).
