One of the sport’s brightest young stars, Benavidez kicks off his second reign as WBC Super Middleweight Champion by returning to fight in his native Phoenix for the first time since 2015, when he knocked out Ricardo Campillo in just his 10th pro strijd.

Villasana (25-6, 14 KO) is the son of former featherweight champion Marcos Villasana, and fights out of Acapulco, Mexico. The 28-year-old will make his U.S. debut on April 18 riding a 10-fight winning streak that includes five knockouts. He most recently picked up two victories in 2019, defeating then-unbeaten Roman Villa in April before knocking out Javier Franco in August.
Representing his home of San Juan de la Maguana, Dominicaanse Republiek, Puello (17-0, 9 KO) zal zijn het Amerikaanse maken. debut on April 18 when he faces Barthelemy. The 33-year-old now trains in Las Vegas and has won titles in two weight classes, defeating Argenis Mendez for a 130-pound crown in 2014 and Denis Shafikov for a 135-pound belt in 2015. Barthelemy will look to work his way toward a second world title shot at 140 pond, which could make him the first three-division champion from Cuba.

LOS ANGELES (September 29, 2019) – Errol “De Waarheid” Spence Jr. (26-0, 21 KO) verenigde zaterdagavond de IBF- en WBC-wereldtitels weltergewicht tegen tweevoudig kampioen “Show Time” Shawn Porter (30-3-1,17 KO) in een actievol hoofdevenement van een FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View vanuit STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.
“Het voelt goed om te winnen,” zei Spence. “Dit is een levenslange droom. Het laat zien dat hard werken loont. Bedankt Shawn Porter, mijn hele team en al mijn mensen uit Texas voor hun komst.”
De heen en weer vechtpartij leverde onmiddellijk het welverdiende gevecht van het jaar op, terwijl de twee weltergewichtkampioenen power punches uitwisselden vanaf de openingsbel tot het einde.. Dat liet het aan Spence over om de naderende storm te doorstaan en plekken te vinden waar hij zijn eigen krachtstoten kon uitdelen. Volgens CompuBox, Spence landde 44% van zijn macht stoten, naar 25% van Porter.

De laatste ronde was meer van hetzelfde, waarbij beide vechters van teen tot teen gingen en de menigte van STAPLES Center op de been lieten en brulden tot de laatste bel. Volgens de laatste stootstatistieken gooiden beide mannen bijna evenveel stoten, met Spence-rand Porter 745 naar 744 in stoten en 221 naar 172 in stoten terechtgekomen.

“Alles viel gewoon perfect op zijn plaats,” zei Benavidez. “Van de schorsing tot alle grote gevechten waarin ik betrokken ben geweest. Dat alles heeft mij geholpen in deze strijd. Ik heb geen fout gemaakt en mezelf niet meer opengesteld dan nodig was. Ik werkte achter mijn prik en kreeg de onderbreking. Het gaat beter en moeilijker worden en ik ben klaar voor de uitdaging.”
Het gevecht volgde de hele tijd een soortgelijk patroon, waarbij Benavidez zijn tegenstander stalkt op zoek naar powershots, terwijl Dirrell door de ring cirkelde op zoek naar tegenwicht en hem op afstand hield met zijn prik.
Benavidez bleef tijdens de eerste rondes de controle behouden, totdat Dirrell in de vierde ronde de rollen even omdraaide in een poging Benavidez tegen de touwen te slaan, maar hij was niet in staat de 22-jarige te verdoven.
In ronde zes brak Benavidez door met een cruciaal moment in het gevecht, een klap geven die een snee in Dirrells rechteroog veroorzaakte. Met het bloed dat stroomt, de snee was meteen een probleem voor Dirrell, die nu een beperkt zicht had om de inkomende aanval te stoppen.

Ondanks dat zijn snee in ronde zes werd gecontroleerd door de arts op de eerste rang, zeven en acht, Dirrell kon zijn ervaren kennis gebruiken om in de strijd te blijven. Naarmate het gevecht naar de negende ronde ging, verhoogde Benavidez zijn aanval, waardoor Dirrell voldoende werd vertraagd zodat hij kon afslaan met krachtige stoten in de hoek.
Terwijl Dirrell probeerde weg te navigeren van de aanval van Benavidez, hij begon meer straf te ondergaan en zag er wankel uit. Scheidsrechter Thomas Taylor stopte officieel het gevecht 1:39 in de ronde, in de richting van de hoek van Dirrell. Benavidez beëindigde het gevecht met een 165 naar 94 voordeel bij gelande stoten, waarbij de grootste marge van hem komt 101 powershots landden op slechts 41 van Dirrell.
“Er komen zoveel emoties tegelijk op mij af,” zei Benavidez. “We hebben zo hard gewerkt in dit trainingskamp. We verlieten het huis en waren weg van alles. Maar ik had de droom om de jongste tweevoudig wereldkampioen super middengewicht te worden en ik maakte mijn dromen waar.”
“Ik zou daar naar binnen zijn blijven gaan,” Said Dirrell. “Ik geef tegen niemand op. Iedereen zag dat ik niet naar beneden ging. Mijn benen waren nog steeds sterk, maar ik kon er niets aan doen.
“We gaan terug naar de tekentafel. Ik vecht nog steeds. We eindigen niet met verlies. Je kunt iedereen bij mij plaatsen.”

Extra actie zag ongeslagen Mario “De Azteken” Buurten (25-0, 16 KO) een nauwe unanieme beslissingsoverwinning behalen Batyr Achmedov (7-1, 6 KO) om de WBA Super Lightweight-titel te veroveren in een gevecht vol actie.
“Ik wist dat dit een oorlog zou worden,” Said Barrios. “Hij werd daarbinnen vies, maar de Mexicaanse krijger in mij wilde deze kans niet aan mij voorbij laten gaan. Ik heb diep gegraven en de overwinning behaald.”
De actie begon toen Achmedov probeerde binnen te komen tegen zijn langere tegenstander, terwijl Barrios probeerde te bewegen en Achmedov te straffen met potschoten van buitenaf. In de vierde ronde, Barrios maakte verbinding met een combo die Achmedov verbijsterde voordat Barrios volgde en een knockdown scoorde toen Achmedovs handschoen het canvas raakte.
“Het plan was om de activiteit geleidelijk uit te breiden,” zei Achmedov. “Ik wist dat ik met een ruime marge moest winnen. Na de eerste knockdown, Ik wist dat ik sneller activiteit moest toevoegen dan ik had gepland. Daarom begon ik agressiever te worden. Ik heb er alles aan gedaan om hem tegen te houden.”
Na het overleven van de ronde, Achmedov pikte de agressie op en begon de ruimte tussen zijn tegenstander effectief af te sluiten. Hij begon talloze zuivere linkse en rechtse hooks te landen die Barrios in de verdediging brachten.
Naarmate de kampioensronden naderden, Barrios begon ernstige zwelling in zijn linkeroog te ervaren te midden van de aanval van Achmedov. “De juryleden zien beter dan ik vanuit de ring,” zei Achmedov. “Ik heb alles gedaan wat ik kon. Ik dacht dat ik won het gevecht. Ze besloten dat hij het gevecht had gewonnen. Als ik het gevecht bekijk, kan ik je vertellen hoe het eruit zag. Het is mijn taak om er alles aan te doen om te winnen. De juryleden worden geacht correct te oordelen.
“Ik probeerde alles te doen wat ik kon. Er werd mij verteld dat ik zijn ervaring niet aankon, maar hij zat het grootste deel van het gevecht aan de touwen. Ik sloeg hem in elkaar en dacht dat ik het gevecht had gewonnen.”
Het openingsgevecht van de pay-per-view-zaag Josesito “The Riverside Rocky” Lopez (37-8, 20 KO) knock-out John Molina Jr. (30-9, 24 KO) in de achtste ronde van hun weltergewichtgevecht.
“We hebben allebei de macht in onze handen, dus het was geen verrassing dat er iemand ten onder ging,” Said Lopez. “Het had mij gemakkelijk kunnen overkomen met de macht die hij heeft. Ik kon hem vroeg opvangen, vind openingen en zorg voor de finish.”
Lopez kreeg een kritieke klap tijdens zijn eerste klap van de avond, hij brak een bovenhandse rechts af die gelijk lag met Molina en zette hem vroeg in de eerste ronde op het canvas. Lopez volgde geduldig en maakte uiteindelijk een wreed lichaamsschot waardoor Molina voor de tweede keer in de ronde werd neergehaald.
Molina kon overeind komen en de tweede ronde bereiken, en liet flitsen zien dat hij misschien het tij van het gevecht zou kunnen veranderen. Hij vertraagde de aanval van Lopez in de tweede ronde met een wrede combinatie van rechtse en linkse haken op het hoofd.
“Je kunt het gevecht nooit uit een vechter halen,” Said Molina. “Ik heb een 'zeg nooit die'-houding en ik heb mijn hele carrière. Het was een zware strijd, maar de betere man heeft vanavond gewonnen.”
“Ik wist dat hij niet zou opgeven,” Said Lopez. “Hij is een krijger. Ik moest de druk blijven uitoefenen. Ik dacht dat de scheidsrechter en het team hopelijk de juiste beslissing hadden genomen om het op het juiste moment af te ronden.”
Lopez bleef echter geduldig en prikte terwijl hij probeerde de rechterhand op te zetten die Molina in de eerste ronde had neergeslagen.. In ronde zeven brak Lopez opnieuw door, dit keer landde hij met een perfecte rechte rechterhand die Molia laat in de ronde op het canvas zette.
Na lang kijken van de arts op de eerste rang en zijn eigen hoek, Molina probeerde zijn kans te wagen op een gevechtsveranderende klap in de achtste ronde. Vroeg in de ronde, Lopez was in staat om verschillende grote power shots te landen die scheidsrechter Ray Corona ertoe aanzetten het gevecht te stoppen 39 seconden in de ronde.
“Ik wilde tot het einde doorgaan,” Said Molina. “Ik dacht dat ik nog coherent was en nog goed kon bewegen. Maar je kunt niet ingaan tegen wat de scheidsrechters zeggen.”
“Er is nog veel meer ‘Riverside Rocky’’ links,” Said Lopez. “Robert Garcia heeft mijn carrière een wending gegeven. Ik ben een raceauto en hou van NASCAR, Ik heb een heel team achter me staan. Ik ben een vechter op het hoogste 10-niveau. Ik ga elke vechter en elke wereldkampioen een run voor zijn geld geven. Ik wil memorabele gevechten en ik wil het beste.”

Tijdens het hoofdevenement van de voorrondes op FS1 was voormalig drievoudig wereldkampioen aanwezig Robert “The Ghost” Krijger (36-6-1, 20 KO) een unanieme beslissingsoverwinning behalen Jerry Thomas (14-2-1, 8 KO) in hun weltergewichtgevecht van 10 ronden.
De eerste rondes waren strategisch, terwijl Thomas vertrouwde op zijn beweging terwijl Guerrero geduldig leek te schieten totdat hij kansen vond voor zijn krachtige stoten. In ronde drie sprong de actie een beetje omhoog toen Guerrero een grote rechte lijn naar links landde die Thomas hard terug in de touwen duwde.
“Ik heb vanavond wat rondjes binnen, wat waardevol was,” Said Guerrero. “We kregen wat we nodig hadden en baanden ons een weg naar de overwinning.”
Guerrero bleef Thomas stalken en het lichaam aanvallen terwijl zijn tegenstander het grootste deel van het gevecht doorbracht met het cirkelen van de ring. Echter, in ronde negen, Thomas verhoogde de presser en sloot de afstand op Guerrero af. Hij landde talloze powershots die Guerrero op de achtergrond zetten.

Spencer begon de actie vroeg, leidt met powershots en controleert tegelijkertijd de afstand tussen hem en zijn tegenstander. Een reeks bodyshots bracht Gambardella tweemaal neer in de eerste ronde, hoewel hij de slotbel van het frame wist te bereiken.
“De bodyshots waren niet echt het plan,” zei Spencer. “Ik begon met hoofdschoten en die nam hij goed op. Ik legde er een beneden en ik zag meteen dat het een slechte uitwerking op hem had. Ik wist dat het een wrap was. Ik zou naar het lichaam blijven gaan.”
Spencer landde vroeg in de tweede ronde een krachtige, rechte rechterhand op Gambardella's hoofd en volgde snel met een vlaag onderbroken door een ander lichaamsschot waardoor hij voor de derde keer in het gevecht viel.. Hoewel Spencer hard leek te sluiten, Gambardella kon intelligent vechten en nog een ronde doorkomen.
“Ik dacht dat de scheidsrechter het in de tweede ronde zou tegenhouden,” zei Spencer. “Toen hij hem losliet, haalde ik diep adem en zorgde ervoor dat ik mezelf niet sloeg. Ik bleef bij mijn prik en liet de rest voor zichzelf zorgen.”
Vroeg in ronde drie, Spencer ging terug in de aanval en maakte met een grote linkse hoek contact met Gambardella's hoofd. Deze keer, scheidsrechter Ray Corona sprong tussenbeide en stopte het gevecht 53 seconden in de ronde, waardoor Spencer de TKO-overwinning behaalde.
“Ik ben zo blij met de verbeteringen die ik vanavond op het grote podium heb kunnen laten zien,” zei Spencer. “Ik ben erg opgewonden over wat gaat komen.”

“Ik heb het gevoel dat al mijn gevechten me op dit moment hebben voorbereid. Porter is niet zoals Mikey Garcia. Ze hebben verschillende stijlen en verschillende mentaliteiten. Maar er zijn thuis veel afleidingen en ik heb het gevoel dat ik dat heb overwonnen om me naar dit punt te leiden.
“Ik maak niets van de woorden die hij zegt. We trainen hard en zijn gefocust en voorbereid op alles wat hij zaterdagavond brengt.
Hij heeft veel gepraat, Zijn vader heeft veel gepraat en ik ga hem zijn mond houden. Ze gaan mij de “toonstopper’ na zaterdagavond.
“Ik heb me op alles voorbereid. Het draait allemaal om aanpassingen. Ik maak ze snel in de ring. Mensen dachten dat de ervaring van Kell Brook hem zou helpen, maar dat gebeurde helemaal niet. Ik kan me aanpassen aan de stijl van mijn tegenstander en dat zullen we zaterdag laten zien.
“Ik ben klaar om te gaan. Ik heb nooit gewicht gemist en ik ben altijd professioneel. Het is gewoon hard werken en toewijding. Ik zal nog meer gescheurd en klaar zijn dan tegen Mikey Garcia.
“Dit wordt zaterdagavond een geweldig evenement. Ik zal de verenigde kampioen van de wereld zijn. Shawn komt vechten en dat omarm ik. Ik kan niet wachten, want ik beloof dat dit er één voor de geschiedenisboeken wordt.
“Ik moet gewoon doen wat ik heb gedaan. Het gaat mij niet om de rondes, zolang het maar niet gaat 12. Ik ga winnen en doe het op een dominante manier.
“Het is belangrijk voor mij om de knock-out te behalen. Het is mijn doel om hem tegen te houden en ik hoop dat ik dat voor elkaar krijg. Als het niet lukt, dan ga ik me gewoon op mijn gemak voelen met de overwinning. Maar je weet dat ik op zoek ben naar de onderbreking.”
SHAWN PORTER
“Het is de concurrent in mij om hem op elke mogelijke manier te pakken te krijgen. Tot die bel gaat, we zullen alles doen wat nodig is om hem te laten weten dat we echt hier zijn om tegen hem te vechten.
“Als je daar bent met een tegenstander van het hoogste niveau, het zou een gevecht vol actie moeten zijn. Ik heb alles in huis om elk gevecht spannend te maken als ik de ring betreed.
“Iedereen heeft alles gezien wat ik in mijn carrière heb gedaan. Iedereen weet dat ik tegen een stootje kan en ik zal er zijn van de eerste tot en met de laatste ronde. We zullen zien wat er met Errol gebeurt naarmate het gevecht voortduurt.
“Dit is het beste kamp dat ik ooit heb gehad. De voeding en alles is perfect. Ik loop voor op schema en daar ben ik van plan te blijven. Ik verwacht vrijdagochtend te eten.
“Ik ben agressief en ik ben sterk en jongens kunnen het niet aan. Er gebeuren dingen in de ring en je moet er gewoon mee bewegen. Ik ben altijd bereid om alles te doen wat nodig is om de klus te klaren.
“Ik had verwacht dat het vandaag warm zou worden. Dat weet ik als ik op Errol schiet, hij gaat terugschieten. Zo zullen de gevechten ook verlopen. Iedereen heeft alvast een goed voorproefje gekregen van wat je zaterdag te zien krijgt.
“Het feit dat ik in de underdog-positie verkeer, is letterlijk waar ik vandaan kom. Noordoost-Ohio is altijd een underdog. Waar ik vandaan kom, werkt iedereen. Wij doen altijd ons best.
“Het CV is voor iedereen om te vergelijken en te contrasteren. Voor mij, het gaat erom wie er voor me staat. Ik geloof dat ik het juiste recept heb om de klus te klaren op zaterdag. Ik heb de stijl om hem fysiek en mentaal uit te dagen.
“We hebben niet veel van ons programma veranderd in de aanloop naar deze strijd. Voor de tweede keer gingen we naar Washington, D.C. voor een deel van ons kamp.”
ANTHONY Dirrell
“De underdog of de favoriet waar ik altijd naar toe ga ”De Hond’ maakt niet uit wat. Mensen kunnen hun mening geven over de kansen, maar het speelt helemaal geen rol in mijn mentaliteit voor dit gevecht.
“Dit is een gevecht dat heel goed de show zou kunnen stelen op deze pay-per-view. Het is een eer om in deze positie te zijn. Het is een droom om op een kaart als deze mijn titel te verdedigen.
“Ik moet zien hoe het uitpakt, maar leeftijd is slechts een getal. Je ziet Manny Pacquiao en dat soort vechters die eropuit gingen en jongere tegenstanders versloegen. Je moet vastberaden zijn en nog steeds gefocust op het spel.
“Ervaring is absoluut een grote sleutel in deze strijd. Ik denk dat hij gaten in zijn spel heeft en ik ga het zaterdagavond blootleggen.
“De cut van mijn laatste gevecht zal voor deze geen probleem zijn. Dat gevecht was meer dan zes maanden geleden, dus als het gaat genezen, het zou genezen moeten worden. Het heeft geen invloed op wat ik in de ring doe.
“Mijn trainingskamp in Las Vegas was spectaculair. Het gaat erom dat je jezelf uit je comfortzone haalt en jezelf tot het uiterste drijft om succesvol te zijn op dit eliteniveau.
“Ik denk niet dat dit gevecht ver gaat en ik weet dat ik aan het eind mijn hand opsteek. Hij werd met een prik gedropt en ik sloeg harder dan Ronald Gavril.”
DAVID Benavidez
“Ik ben erg gemotiveerd voor deze strijd. Ik heb het gevoel dat ik nog een kans heb om niet alleen een titel te behalen, maar neem dat maar aan van een kampioen. Ik heb heel hard gewerkt voor deze strijd. Dirrell is nog nooit uitgeschakeld en ik ga de uitdaging aan om de man te zijn die dat doet.
“Dit is het perfecte moment voor dit gevecht. Ik word elke dag sterker. Dirrell heeft het gevoel dat hij de fans veel te bewijzen heeft. Het zal dus een oorlog zijn zolang het duurt.
Dit wordt een geweldige kaart. Het is een gestapelde kaart van begin tot eind. Ik wil een statement maken en de show stelen.
“Dirrell is een geweldige vechter en we zijn allebei klaar voor wat we gaan doen. Er is respect tussen ons, maar ik ga voor de knock-out. Als ik dat niet doe, hij krijgt een pak slaag.
“Ik ga zeker van deze gewichtsklasse mijn thuis maken. Ik heb er helemaal geen probleem mee om op gewicht te komen. Er zijn nog veel geweldige gevechten te winnen in het super middengewicht en we blijven hier zolang we die gevechten kunnen voltooien..
“Vanaf nu, al mijn aandacht gaat uit naar Anthony Dirrell. We geven hem het respect dat hij verdient, omdat hij uiteindelijk een kampioen is. Ik zal mijn best moeten doen om hem te verslaan en we kijken er naar uit om dat te doen.
“Dirrell heeft ervaring, plus wat snelheid en kracht. Hij kan veranderen van orthodox naar linkshandig en heeft veel trucjes in zijn boek. Hij is daar geweest met een aantal goede vechters. Maar wat mij het meest motiveert, is dat hij nooit echt gewond is geraakt en dat ik de eerste wil zijn. Ik weet wanneer ik mijn handen op iemand leg, Ik kan ze pijn doen.”

“Shawn Porter gaat met twee banden de ring verlaten. Ik ga hem slaan. Ik ga hem hard slaan en ik ga dingen doen die je nog nooit iemand hebt zien doen tegen Errol Spence.
“Ik verwacht dat er tegenslag zal zijn voor Errol. Er komt een moment waarop hij beseft dat hij deze strijd aan het verliezen is. Hij moet psychologisch solide zijn. Ik weet niet of hij in de ring komt. Ik geloof dat ik daar het voordeel heb en dat ik weet hoe ik in zijn hoofd moet kruipen.
“Ik denk dat het vertrouwen van Errol net zo natuurlijk is als het mijne. Maar ik denk dat hij zijn zelfvertrouwen zo heeft gevoed dat er enige arrogantie naar voren is gekomen. Ik denk dat hij dat al vroeg in het gevecht zal laten zien. Hij zal zich moeten aanpassen. Zodra hij dat inziet, Ik verwacht dat de arrogantie uit het raam zal verdwijnen en dat hij het zal moeten uitzoeken.
“Ik heb Errol nog nooit tegenslagen in de ring zien doormaken. Ik denk niet dat iemand hem heeft kunnen uitdagen zoals ik hem kan uitdagen. Ik kijk er echt naar uit.
“Er is een combinatie van Shawn Porter die je nergens anders kunt krijgen. Het is de snelheid, vermogen, behendigheid en intelligentie. Je moet onderweg veel aanpassingen maken en klaar zijn. Ik kan me er moeilijk op voorbereiden. Spence heeft waarschijnlijk een of twee dingen die hij verwacht, maar zo zal het niet gaan.
“Ik heb eerder in de positie van Errol gezeten en ik weet hoe het is om te denken dat ik alleen maar hoefde te verschijnen en mezelf te zijn. Ik ben op een punt gekomen waarop ik besef dat ik meer moet doen.
“Ik denk niet dat er te veel valt uit te zoeken met Errol. Het spelplan is om hem de aanpassingen te laten doorvoeren. Dingen gaan niet altijd volgens plan, Maar ik denk nog steeds dat ik weet wat hij daar wil doen. Hij zal je niet veel geven om aan te wennen, maar wat hij doet, hij is oppermachtig en hij is er goed in.
“Southpaws halen altijd het beste uit mij. Ik ben weer jong. Je gaat de beste Shawn Porter zien.
“Ik denk dat Errol nog veel meer te verliezen heeft in deze strijd. Hij heeft nog nooit met verlies te maken gehad, en de meeste mensen verwachten niet dat hij zal verliezen. Hij bevindt zich in de perfecte positie om te worden beschouwd als een topweltergewicht. Maar vanuit mijn perspectief, Ik heb gewoon absoluut niet de intentie om te verliezen.”

“Ik heb alles wat ik nodig heb in mijn arsenaal. Ik ben veelzijdig. Ik kan het omschakelen als dat nodig is. Als ik in de zak moet zitten, Ik kan. Als ik moet boksen, Ik kan. Ik denk gewoon niet dat Benavidez is wie iedereen hem voorstelt.
“Ik ga voor de knock-out. Ik ga in elk gevecht voor de knock-out. Als het niet gebeurt, Ik kan nog steeds gaan 12 rondes en kom als overwinnaar uit de strijd.

“Je stopt al het werk in de sportschool, dan moet je alles in de ring laten. We hebben te hard getraind om dat niet te doen. Ik heb er alle vertrouwen. Aan het einde van de dag, de fans gaan winnen.
“Ik heb Benavidez eerder zien vechten. Mijn coaches hebben hem nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden en zullen met het spelplan komen. Hij is snel, maar we zullen er klaar voor zijn.”

“Ik voel me nu geweldig. Alles is vlot verlopen en ik kan niet wachten om daar gewoon te gaan werken. Alle moeilijke dingen zijn gedaan, nu is het gewoon handhaven en gereed blijven.

Spence has declared that anyone who wants to make that claim will have to come through him. Porter has already faced the some of the biggest names in the division, including Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, and will make Spence back up his boast.
The unbeaten Spence (25-0, 21 KO) is een jong, powerful welterweight who vaulted to the top of the welterweight scene with a punishing 11thround knockout victory over Kell Brook for the IBF championship in front of Brook’s hometown fans in Sheffield, England in 2017. Fighting out of Desoto, Texas, Spence has successfully defended the title three times. Most recently he scored a unanimous decision victory over three-division world champion Mikey Garcia in a PBC on FOX Pay-Per-View show before a hometown crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on March 16.

The 31-year-old Porter (30-2-1, 17 KO) is a two-time welterweight champion whose high-pressure style has served him well in his rise in the 147-pound division. Born in Akron, Ohio and now living in Las Vegas, Porter won the IBF welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Devon Alexander in 2013. He lost the title, which Spence now has, to Kell Brook by a majority decision in 2014. Porter moved back into the championship ranks with a unanimous decision victory over Danny Garcia for the vacant WBC title in 2018. He successfully defended the title with a split decision victory over Yordenis Ugas in March on FOX.
“There haven’t been too many fights as a professional that I’ve been this excited about,” Said Porter. “I was really excited about the Danny Garcia fight and I’m really excited about this one. Ever since Spence got a belt, I really circled this fight on my calendar. Preparation is the key. I think I have everything it takes to beat Errol Spence. I’m very confident and my team is confident in what I have to do on September 28. We’ll be ready.”
Dirrell vs. Benavidez promises to be a hotly contested battle for the WBC Super Middleweight title. Dirrell is a two-time WBC 168-pound world champion and will bring experience, while Benavidez will bring his high-octane style.
The 34-year-old Dirrell (33-1-1, 24 KO) won the WBC title for the first time with a unanimous decision over Sakio Bika in 2014. The native of Flint, Michigan lost the title the next year to Badou Jack by majority decision. He put together six straight victories after that loss to get back into position to fight for the championship again. He won the title with a technical decision victory over Avni Yildirim in February on FS1. Dirrell is the younger brother of Andre Dirrell, who won a bronze medal as a member of the U.S. Olympic boxing team in 2004.
“I’m going to work my butt off, putting in extra hours in the gym, because this is one of the toughest opponents I’ve ever fought,” Dirrell said. “He’s young and he’s tough. ARLINGTON, TX. (Maart 17, 2019) – Errol Spence Jr. retained his IBF Welterweight World Championship in his hometown in front of 47,525 fans with a unanimous decision over four-division world championMikey Garciain the main event of the first Premier Boxing Champions on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View event Saturday night from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
“The motivation fighting in front of my hometown crowd made me feel great,” zei Spence. “These people have supported me since day one and I wanted to put on a good performance for all of them.”
“I really appreciate the love and support of the fans tonight,” Said Garcia. “It’s a great night and all the credit to Errol, he’s a great champion. He’s the truth. He executed his game plan very well.”
The bout started technical, with Spence pumping a consistent jab and attempting to cut the ring off while Garcia was patiently looking for a chance to counter. Garcia had some success early throwing counter left hooks over Spence’s jab, but was never able to get in a rhythm against the busier champion.
“He came out here with a good game plan and kept the distance at his favor,” Said Garcia. “I couldn’t get my rhythm going and he did what he had to do. I tried to make adjustments and he kept executing.”

Garcia kept that energy going early in round five, putting Spence on the defensive temporarily before he regained his momentum and returned to connecting on powerful straight lefts.

From the opening bell Love sought to crowd the taller Benavidez, but the 22-year-old Benavidez quickly made him pay, landing a powerful left hook that stunned Love. Love was able to last the round, but took more powerful hooks from Benavidez before the bell.
“I expected to knock him out, but when I hit him with the first god shot, I knew he wasn’t going to last,” zei Benavidez. “I tried to pace myself, but it wasn’t necessary tonight.”
Benavidez wasted little time in the second round, delivering power shots that put Love on the run. Benavidez caught Love with a clean combo on the ropes that stunned Love and forced referee Laurence Cole to jump in and stop the bout 1:14 in de tweede ronde, as Benavidez began to throw furious combos.
“He was getting his shots off, but I don’t think I was taking too much punishment,” said Love. “I wasn’t out of the game completely but he did catch me with a couple good shots.”

“We’re two great fighters who were here to put on a show,” zei Nery. “That’s what you have to expect from fighters of our caliber. I’m happy to start on the right foot here in my U.S. debut and show everyone I’m still the best at bantamweight.”
Nery stalked Arroyo from the opening bell, throwing big power shots that forced his opponent to fight off his back foot. Met 45 seconds left in round two, Nery scored his first knockdown with a left that stunned him and follow-up combination that put Arroyo on the canvas.
Arroyo was unable to keep the hard-charging Nery from coming forward and again hit the mat late in round three, as a wide left hook hurt Arroyo before he was put down from a flurry that followed. The trouble continued for Arroyo in round four, as he was knocked down twice more in the final minute of the round.
“I never felt like I was dazed or anything, they were just hard punches,” said Arroyo. “I went down but got right back up. If it were up to me I’d have kept going. I have to give respect to my opponent for his performance. This isn’t the end of my career. I’ve seen him fight before but I was surprised by his power. It was his night tonight.”
After the fourth round, Arroyo’s corner stopped the bout, making the official stoppage 10 seconds into round five. Nery dominated the bout, out landing Arroyo 87 naar 36, terwijl de landing 44 procent van zijn macht stoten.

“A lot of times when I’m in AT&T Stadium watching the NFL games, or watching Pacquiao fights or Canelo fights, the jumbotrons are so big that you get caught up looking up even when you’re ringside. It’s great because there isn’t a bad seat in the place with the jumbotron.
“This is definitely one of those crossover fights for me. Garcia is the biggest name to date that I’m fighting on American soil. It’s just great being so young in my career, fighting in my first pay-per-view and fighting with a guy like Garcia who brings over a different fanbase.
“You can tell how I looked ten weeks ago compared to how I look now. I’m not overlooking Garcia. I’m in tip-top shape, slim and ready. The difference is that now in a pay-per-view fight you have to be more dedicated and focused to promote the fight, showing that you are a star in boxing and sports media.
“If you know me and you know my boxing style, you know I’m never in a boring fight. Even if it’s just me beating up my opponent, or them just being hurt, I’m always going to try to stop my opponent and put on a spectacular performance.
“I put that pressure to look great on myself, not just because I’m undefeated or because everybody says this about me, I do it for myself to put on a great performance and a great show. I want to do that so great guys can look at me and think about if they want to fight me or not. That’s why a lot of guys don’t want to fight me.”

“A lot of people underestimate the power when they face me. They don’t see my physical size as a threat. But you know they feel the power once we’re in the ring and definitely change their minds.

But I still feel that I’m better in every one of those ways and that’s what I’m betting on.”

“I’m extremely excited to be fighting in front of 40,000-plus people in the co-main event on March 16. It’s like a dream come true fighting at AT&T Stadium.
“I’m looking forward to going in and getting a knockout… I’ve been training extremely hard. Three months of training for this camp. It’s been good. I have like six pounds left to lose, so I haven’t struggled with the weight at all. I’ve been on a diet for at least three months now. The work has been done in and outside of the ring. Everything has been perfect leading up to this fight and I’m extremely ready.
“It was difficult (losing my title). I beat myself for that belt. In 2019, we are not taking any steps back, only forward.
“There are a lot of good fights I know that can be made. Zo, I am very excited to do my part and hopefully face-off against Anthony Dirrell, Caleb Plant or Callum Smith at the end of the year. I’m already in line to fight for the WBC title, but I’ve got to first take care of my job with J’Leon Love.
“Love is a good boxer, een contra-puncher. He’s been in the game for a while now. Maar zoals ik al zei, I’m ready for anything. I’ve studied him a lot, so I’m just ready for anything he presents.

“The main thing this time around is I’m fighting a lefty and the first three or four times being in the ring sparring it’s a little different. It’s different angles and different punches… So that’s the main thing that’s probably the hardest part is lefties and getting used to it.”

The 32-year-old bounced back from a defeat against Anthony Joshua to score two stoppage victories before losing a close decision to unbeaten Adam Kownacki in September.
Fighting out of his hometown of Dallas, Corbin (15-0, 9 KO) will look to remain unbeaten in front of a friendly crowd. The 38-year-old has stopped five of his last six opponents, including his most recent victory over Homero Fonseca in August. He will fight in his home state for the ninth time as a pro on March 16.
