LOS ANGELES (Pebrero 7, 2019) – WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Gervonta Davis ug kanhi world champion Hugo Ruiz went face-to-face Thursday at the final press conference before they go toe-to-toe this Saturday night in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® from Dignity Health Sports Park, formerly StubHub Center, sa Carson, Calif. ug gipresentar sa Premier Boxing Champions.

Also facing off on Thursday were fighters who will enter the ring live on SHOWTIME in televised undercard attractions. Undefeated super lightweight Mario Barrios will be facing Mexico’s Richard Zamora, while former world champion Javier Fortuna will step in against lightweight contender Sharif Bogere as part of live SHOWTIME action kicking off at 10 sa gabii. ET / 7 hapon. PT.

Ang kalihokan gipasiugda sa Mayweather Promotions, TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing and tickets are sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Davis was joined on-stage by his promoter, legendary boxer and Mayweather Promotions President Floyd Mayweather. Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday at the Westin Los Angeles Airport before Saturday night’s event:

GERVONTA Davis

I’m so excited to come back strong in 2019. This is the year that could put me over the top and put me at the highest level.

The opponent change didn’t really affect me. In the amateurs we fought four or five times a week so we always had different opponents. I had been sparring someone taller than me in training camp anyway. I think a fighter should be ready and able to adapt to anything that is in front of him in the ring. I’m ready and I hope Ruiz is too.

“Training kampo nga dako nga. I’m ready for Saturday night. We planned on fighting Abner Mares, but he had an injury and we hope to still get him down the line if everything is okay with his health.

Hugo Ruiz is a great opponent. He’s going to come to fight on Saturday night. He’s been telling the media he’s going to knock me out, so I hope we get an action packed fight for the fans. I’m glad Ruiz is coming for the knockout. We owe it to the fans and I’m praying that he comes ready to give them a great show.

I feel like I’m the fighter that can be the next big star. I’m working towards it. I’m just a kid soaking it all in right now. Sabado sa gabii, I hope everyone is ready, because it’s going to be action.

Ruiz’s record speaks for itself. I’ve watched him and he has some pop. He’s accurate and I’m ready for it. I don’t think I’ll have any ring rust. I’ve worked with a lot of great fighters in the gym. I’m just excited to get back in the ring.

I want to give my fans all over the world a great show. Everyone tuning in is going to see a great performance. Hopefully Hugo will live up to his word, because I’m going to live up to mine.

HUGO Ruiz

I’m very happy to have this opportunity. Ako sa pagbiya sa tanan nga mga butang diha sa singsing. I have a lot of faith in my boxing skills. I trust and believe that there is going to be a new world champion on Saturday night.

I’m in rhythm and in shape. I’ve been very active leading into and since my last fight. Davis is a tremendous champion, apan wala siya paghadlok kanako. I’ll be ready for him come Saturday night.

This is a great opportunity to fight a southpaw, as I had originally been training for a lefty before my opponent changed in my last fight. I also fought a southpaw in November. I’ve been training with a lot of lefties for a while. I’m more than ready for this opportunity.

Davis is a strong champion and I know this is a big opportunity for me to fight someone of his caliber. I’m ready mentally and physically for the greatest opportunity that has been given to me.

At 130-pounds I feel more power than ever and I will demonstrate that on Saturday night. This is a big challenge for me. This is the opportunity that I’ve been waiting for throughout my 12-year career. I don’t plan on wasting it.

Mario Barrios

This is a huge opportunity and I’m very excited for it. I’m looking forward to going out there and putting on a great show for the boxing fans.

I’m ready and I’m prepared to take full advantage of this chance to make a statement on Saturday night. I want any one of the champions in this division, but I’m not looking past Zamora. I just know that the work that I put in will pay off.

I have big things on the horizon and Zamora is in my way. I’m focused and ready to make this a great night. If he wants a war, I’ll give him a war.

RICHARD ZAMORA

I’m very happy and thankful to be in this fight. This is the opportunity I’ve been looking for. I’m ready to compete and I’m not going to let this opportunity pass me by.

This is definitely a big step for me in my U.S. debut. If I can get a win over Mario Barrios, then I would be able to reach a lot of dreams that I have.

I come well prepared and I’m expecting a war. I’m going to be ready to go and battle until the end. You’ll see that I’m going to leave it all in the ring.

Javier Fortuna

I’m going to give the best that I have in the ring. I’m going against a good boxer with a good record, but it doesn’t matter what obstacles are in front of me. I’m going to come through with a big win on Saturday night.

We have a new team and a new trainer that is going to give the fans the best Javier Fortuna possible on Saturday.

A victory against Sharif Bogere is very important for me and a stepping stone to where I want to get. It’s going to be a difficult fight, but I’m ready to make this a very tough night for him.

SHARIF BOGERE

We are going to make this a great fight on Saturday. Fortuna is a good fighter and tough guy. I expect him to bring a lot of fireworks. I’m prepared for it and I have the game plan to win.

Every day is a tough test in life. This is going to be just another fight. I’m prepared and I have a great team behind me. I’m coming on Saturday night for what belongs to me.

Fortuna has a big name and is a step up for me. This win will put me up there toward the top and I’ll be prepared for whatever challenge comes after that.

Floyd Mayweather, Presidente sa Mayweather Promotions

It’s great to be here with so many young talented fighters. I could remember 23 years ago when I was in that same position. When you’re in this position you have to take advantage of it. Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime. You must go out there and give it your all.

I want to see these fighters become great and become stars. The records that I’ve set were made to be broken.

I remember when Gervonta Davis first came to my gym. He worked hard and believed in himself. Sometimes we did two-a-days. If we didn’t think the job was done right, we’d come back and correct it. We continue to strive every day to be the best we possibly can be. Gervonta works extremely hard, but he can’t take anything for granted in this fight.

I think Hugo Ruiz is more dangerous opponent than Abner Mares. Abner is a tremendous fighter, but Ruiz is very tough and he has good knockout power. This is a great matchup and the kind that people want to see. It’s all about putting on great shows and Saturday will be another blockbuster.

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO sa Mayweather Promotions

We have a great event this Saturday night with great fights from top to bottom of this card. This is going to be a great night of boxing.

Gervonta Davis has reached goals beyond just the boxing ring. I know the impact that Gervonta has on the youth all around the world. When it comes to excitement, explosiveness and knockout power, this is something new that the fans are getting a chance to witness.

At the young age of 24, fans have come to know Gervonta for his punching power. But he’s also a very skilled boxer. This is one of the things that he’ll be able to showcase moving forward in a number of big fights he’s going to have.

We know he has a tough challenge in front of him. Anytime you have a last minute replacement who’s an excellent fighter, it’s a big challenge. Ruiz is an aggressive fighter and we expect nothing but a great fight.

Gervonta Davis has the full arsenal. Sa akong opinyon, he’s the most exciting fighter and the biggest puncher in the entire sport. It takes more than knockout power and I think you’ll see an array of his skillset.

SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ, Presidente sa Sampson Boxing

It really is an honor for me to be involved in this great show. These are going to be three great fights. Hugo Ruiz had been training for a southpaw before an opponent switch led to him fighting a right hander last fight. After a few more weeks leading into this fight, Ruiz is 100 percent ready for this challenge.

“Salig kanako, this is going to be a rough fight. I believe that Davis will have his hands full with Hugo Ruiz. Ruiz comes from a family of fighters and he is a true Mexican warrior who will leave it all in the ring on Saturday.

LAS VEGAS (Pebrero 5, 2019) – Super welterweight contender Erickson Lubin will enter the ring under the guidance of coach Kevin Cunningham for the first time when he steps into the ring this Saturday against former world champion Ishe Smith ingon nga kabahin sa SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING COUNTDOWN from Dignity Health Sports Park, formerly StubHub Center, sa Carson, California and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

The digital presentation will stream on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel ug Showtime Boxing Facebook nga pahina sugod sa 8 sa gabii. ET / 5 sa hapon. PT, and will also feature a showdown between super lightweights Juan Heraldez and Eddie Ramirez, all leading up to that evening’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING event. The three-fight SHOWTIME telecast begins live at 10 sa gabii. ET / 7 hapon. PT headlined by super featherweight world champion Gervonta Davis defending his title against former world champion Hugo Ruiz.

Lubin will fight for the second time since losing his first world title challenge to Jermell Charlo in 2017, and for the first time with his new coach. The Orlando-native began training camp in West Palm Beach, but has been training in Las Vegas for the last month since the team moved west to finish the training camp for Adrien Broner’s fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Here is what Lubin had to say about Saturday’s fight and more:

On his matchup against Ishe Smith:

Ishe Smith has been in the ring with the best of them and he’s never been stopped. He knows how to fight and I’m expecting him to be at this best. I will have to dictate the pace right from the opening bell. My goal is to be the first person to take him out, but if it goes the distance, I’m okay with that as well. I’m going to win this fight and win it impressively.

On training with new coach Kevin Cunningham:

Kevin is a no-nonsense type of guy. He’s going to tell you the truth if you like it or not. If I’m doing something wrong in his eyes, he’s going to speak on it right away. He’ll do the same if I’m doing something right, so I like his style of training and I’m learning more each day we are together. This will be our first fight together and I’m excited to get back in the ring. We have a nice game plan in place that we will execute on fight night.

On training in Las Vegas for the first time in his career:

Training in Las Vegas is no joke, because we are training in higher elevation than what I’m used to in Florida. Getting away from the distractions at home has been relaxing. I’ve been getting great sparring and my timing is right on point. Las Vegas is definitely the place to be for high level sparring and training.

On fighting in Southern California for the second time in his career:

I really like fighting on the west coast. The fans are great, and the weather is beautiful. I know we’ll be fighting outdoors so I’m looking forward to that. Everyone knows this venue has hosted some really good fights. I’m looking to steal the show on Saturday night.

The three-fight SHOWTIME telecast begins live at 10 sa gabii. ET / 7 hapon. PT and is headlined by super featherweight world champion Gervonta Davis defending his title against former world champion Hugo Ruiz.

The 23-year-old from San Antonio can increase his knockout streak to seven on February 9, all since he moved up to 140-pounds. Here is what Barrios (22-0, 14 KOs) had to say about his upcoming matchup and more from training camp in Oakland, Calif.:

On his matchup with Richard Zamora:

Zamora is my toughest opponent to date in my opinion. He’s won his last five fights, so I know he’s coming into this fight with a lot of confidence. He has power in both hands and he’s very tough. But I’m going into this fight with a lot of confidence myself. This is going to be a war and one I’m looking forward to. I have no doubt in my mind that I’m going to come out on top.

On his recent training camp:

Camp started back home with my dad Martin and he really got me ready before I left for California. I’ve spent the last six weeks training in the Bay Area with Virgil Hunter. I’ve also been training with Victor Conte and Remi Korchemny at the SNAC facility. Karon, my body is in the best shape of my life. I got good sparring with Devin Haney and a few other top-level fighters. All the hard work is almost done. We have one week left and then its fight week. Virgil and I are working great together and I’m ready to go.

On fighting in the co-main event on SHOWTIME:

I’m very excited to be fighting on SHOWTIME on a big card once again, this time in the co-main event. I’m going to bring a lot of excitement to those watching on TV. My style is fan-friendly and everyone tuning in is going to see the next superstar in boxing. I’m going to take full advantage of this opportunity fighting on the big stage.

On when he’ll be fighting for a world title:

I’m currently ranked No. 1 sa WBA, so I know a world title shot is very close. Karon, my main focus is defeating Zamora. I must get past this fight and then it’s time to face all the top guys in the super lightweight division. I’m looking to be in a world title fight sometime this year.

Three-Division, Four-Time World Champion Abner Mares Sustains Injury; Forced To Withdraw From Match Against WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Gervonta DavisDavis Now Set To Take on Former World Champion Hugo Ruiz in SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Main Event Saturday, Pebrero 9

LOS ANGELES (Enero 30, 2019) -Three-division, four-time champion Abner Mares has been forced to pull out of the WBA Super Featherweight title match against two-time super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis on Saturday, Pebrero 9 after suffering an injury while training.

Davis will now defend against former world championHugo Ruizin the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, uban sa coverage sugod sa 10 sa gabii. ET / 7 hapon. PT from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Ruiz is an all-action brawler who previously picked up a world title at super bantamweight in 2015 and most recently defeated Alberto Guevara in January on the Pacquiao vs. Broner PPV event in a featherweight fight. Ruiz, nga tag-iya 18 first round knockouts, floored Guevara in the opening minute and cruised to a near-shutout decision victory.

He had originally been slotted for an interim title shot against Jhack Tepora in January before Tepora missed weight, but will now have his chance to fight for a belt against one of the most-feared punchers at 130-pounds on February 9. The 30-year-old from Sinaloa, Mexico stands at five feet, nine inches tall, nearly four inches taller than Davis, and has won three straight fights leading up to this fight.

I trained for three months to fight a southpaw when I fought in January,” said Ruiz. “When the opponent changed, it was hard to adjust in 24 mga oras. After the fight I immediately went back to the gym, because you never know what’s going to happen in boxing. Ako 100 percent ready to knockout Gervonta Davis.

Hugo Ruiz has another opportunity to fight for a world title because he’s demonstrated that he’s devoted to boxing and his career,” said Sampson Lewkowicz, Ruiz’s Promoter. “He went right back to the gym after his last fight. He’s ready for another great opportunity to be a world champion and he’s going to take advantage of that opportunity.

Mares injured his right elbow during sparring at the Robert Garcia Boxing Gym in Riverside, Calif. Mares said he had experienced soreness in his elbow following the past two fights, but nothing that had ever given him nor his team concern.

I’m not going to sugarcoat this. I’m disappointed and devastated that I’ve injured my right elbow in sparring,” Mares said. “This is something that I haven’t had happen to me during my career and the feeling is just horrible. I will be going to see my doctor about this and am prepared to follow whatever recommendations and rehab that gets me back into the ring. I’m healthy, not afraid of doing the work and I will be back. This is a temporary setback. Don’t count me out.

Boxing is a sport of brains, passion and physical punishment,” miingon Mares’ trainer Robert Garcia. “When you’re in the ring sparring with talented, top-class sparring partners, the chances of injuries are very high. That was the situation in this case. He was sparring top young fighters and he injured his elbow. He cannot fight like that, especially in a fight against Davis.

Ang mga inahan, who has engaged in numerous memorable fights throughout his storied career, was seeking to move up in weight and looking to capture his fifth world title in a fourth weight class.

The event is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing.

Andre Berto, Thomas Williams Jr.. & Jorge Lora Score Huge Knockouts on PBC on FOX & FOX From StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Photo Credit: Suzanne Teresa / Premier Boxing Champions
Carson, SAMA (Abril 30, 2016) – In front a packed house of 7,760 and a nationally televised PBC sa FOX and FOX Deportes mamiminaw, Andre Berto, (31-4, 24 KOs) turned back the clock and successfully gained his revenge over “Ang mapintas nga” Victor Ortiz, 31-6-2 (24 KOs) with a stunning fourth-round knockout in a rematch of their 2011 “Fight sa Tuig” sa Sabado night at Southern California’s legendary open-air boxing venue StubHub Center.
Ortiz found success early dropping Berto with a straight left, sending the Winter Haven, Florida-native to the canvas. Berto turned the tables in brutal fashion in the fourth, drilling Ortiz with a right uppercut which sent the southpaw from Ventura, Calif. sprawling to the mat. Upon rising, Ortiz was met with a barrage of punches which sent him down again as referee Jack Reiss waived the fight off at the 1:14 mark of the round.
Said a thrilled Berto, “I wasn’t hurt by the first knockdown. I was more mad at myself for getting caught. Once he went down it was over, I knew he was hurt and I went right after him. He couldn’t take my power.

I feel terrific, it’s a great comeback victory. I would take on Danny Garcia sure, just tell me when and I’ll be ready.

From a disappointed Ortiz, “I didn’t really lose control. I dropped my hand and he caught me. He is a hard puncher just like myself.
This was a history book type of fight. He went down. I went down. Righty vs. lefty. This is boxing.
I knew as soon as the head butt happened that it was not good because the blood started pouring. That’s not a big deal. It happens in boxing.
I never disliked Berto. It is part of the game. He acted like he didn’t like me, but I always tried to shake his hand. I don’t hate anyone.
Sa televised co-bahin, Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr.., 20-1 (14 KOs), continued his reign of terror in the light heavyweight division with a spectacular second round (2:59) knockout of Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (28-2 19 KOs).
With both contenders throwing and landing bombs from the opening bell, Williams and Rodriguez were each rocked in the first stanza. Towards the end of the second round with the action reaching a boil, Williams unloaded with a massive left hand that sent Rodriguez sprawling to the canvas resulting in an immediate stoppage.
Said an elated Williams, “I told you what was going to happen, that he was going be open for everything and he was. I countered him and hurt him with every punch. I could see his punches like it was slow motion.

I want the title, absolutely I want to fight Adonis Stevenson next, he’s the champ and I want his belt.

From a dejected Rodriguez, “I thought I could have continued. I didn’t know what the referee saw, but I could have kept going.

I didn’t fight the fight I was supposed to. I was supposed to go in there and box, and I didn’t do it. I should have taken my time.

He throws like crazy and I wasn’t fighting defensively. I should have stuck to my game plan and that’s my fault.

In the televised opening, unbeaten featherweight contender Jorge Lara, (28-0-2 20 KOs), savagely stopped former world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel, (54-6-2, 39 KOs) sa unang round. Montiel was drilled to the canvas four times before the action was halted at the 1:37 marka.
Miingon Lara, “It went totally according to plan. We trained for every round, but we knew that it wouldn’t go every round. After the first knockdown, I knew it wouldn’t go past the first round.
I want the winner of either Mares v. Cuellar or Frampton v. Santa Cruz.
I am honored to beat a great champion like Montiel.
From a shocked Montiel on the quick start by Lara, “It’s what I expected. He didn’t do anything that surprised me. He just caught me with a shot. But he gave me a couple shots behind the head that weren’t good.

When ask if he was fouled, “Hingpit nga. Especially when I was down and he hit me in the back of the head. The referee should have called that (a foul).”

In televised heavyweight action, Gerald “Ang Black Sunoy” Washington milambo ngadto sa 17-0-1 (11KO ni) with an eight round unanimous decision over former world title challenger “Puasa” Eddie Chambers, 42-5 (23KO ni). Scores mga 80-72 makaduha ug 79-73.
In a televised swing bout top light heavyweight prospect, David “Ang Red Flag” Benavidez, 14-0 (13KO ni), mihunong Philip Jackson, 16-3 (15KO ni) in the second round at the 2:07 marka.

Victor Ortiz
I’m an easy-going guy but this is boxing. He might hate me. Ako pagtahod kaniya, but I’m coming to take him down and out.
I know what I’m here for and that’s a victory. As much talking as he’s done, it was a different guy that showed up today.
This is a totally different fight than five years ago. We’re different people. I’m a different guy and so is he.
Sabado is right around the corner and I’m here. I see loss in his eyes. Ako andam. 100 porsyento.
This is a whole new chapter in my saga. I feel like this is my time once again. I’ve only fought in my prime twice. I did a lot of damage at young age. I feel I’m in my prime now. Ang langit mao ang utlanan.
I feel very at peace being back in Ventura to train. We’re going to capture another world title. We went to training camp for that purpose. My mind is set on being one of the greatest.
UBANG Berto
We had an amazing camp. The situation five years ago, there’s no reason to keep speaking on that. I’m a better man today. I put in the work for this one.
I’m looking forward to this. Everybody knows me and knows how I get down. I’ll do my talking in the ring.
Thanks to Victor for taking this fight. All the personal stuff aside, we have to get in the ring and do what we have to do. It’s been five years coming and now we’re here.
The stuff Victor said on the stage and his body language. I believe he knows he is going to be in there with a different type of animal this time.
I think he is already defeated. He sees how focused I am. If he has been hearing anything from camp, he knows I’m ready to go.
He didn’t believe anything he said on the stage. Looking at him face to face, he was trying to tell jokes. I think that he knows that he is going to be in there with a different Andre Berto.
Edwin Rodriguez
My opponent seems to be really confident and it’s my job sa Sabado to take that away. We’ve worked hard and we’re ready.
I’m happy to be here and I’m really excited about this card. I remember watching this fight in Connecticut and I’m thrilled to be involved in part two.
THOMAS WILLIAMS JR.
“Ako lang andam sa pag-adto. This fight was scheduled for Marso 12, but we always stayed in the gym. We worked smart, not just hard, but smart.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to fight on this platform. This is going to be a can’t miss fight. Get there and get there early. Don’t blink.
JORGE Lara
I’m proud to be here. We’re ready for a great fight sa Sabado sa gabii. I want everyone to see how much hard work I’ve put into this fight.
It means a lot to me to be able to collide with a great champion like Fernando Montiel.
Fernando Montiel
It means a lot to be a part of a dynamic card that his highlighted by this great rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto.
“Kini ni-adto sa mahimo nga usa ka dako nga gabii sa away. I’ve had a lot of ups-and-downs throughout my life but I’ve always worked hard. I’m just excited to get in the ring sa Sabado sa gabii.
I am a five-time world champion and I’ve been fighting for 20 years but I know sa Sabado night that I’m going to have one of the best nights of my career.
GERALD WASHINGTON
It’s an honor to be here and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to fight someone like Eddie Chambers. He has so much experience and class.
It means a lot to me to come from a little town called Vallejo and to make it all way up here to fighting at StubHub Center.
I’m looking to take advantage sa Sabado night and step forward in my career. We’ve been working hard and putting things together
I’m excited for everyone to see the new and improved Gerald Washington.
EDDIE CHAMBERS
I want to thank my team for getting behind me and bringing me out there. I’m thankful to Gerald for taking this fight. Not everyone would take this fight.
This is my chance to get back in the good graces and get back to the top level of this sport.
You should show up early so you can see this one, it’s going to be a great fight.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from the Wild Card West Boxing Club in Santa Monica:
Victor Ortiz
I put a total of 14 weeks of work into this fight. Nothing easy about that work. Come the 30th, I’m going to prove why I beat Berto the first time.
I know what I’m here to do. I’ve got my fire back. People claim that I don’t have the fire, but you’ll see on Abril 30.
People don’t know what I go through on the daily. When I’m injured for months at a time, I just have me and my team. We work hard.
I’m going to be back on top in no time. That’s my opinion. I know where I belong.
I’m focusing on Berto. That’s my target and that’s my focus.
He’s done what he’s done. You have to respect that. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. We’re going toe-to-toe.
UBANG Berto
This is the type of game where if you don’t respect it, it won’t respect you. I’m in a much better place right now. I’ve learned a lot over the years since the first fight. I’m healthy and focused.
“Ako lang andam sa pag-adto. Camp was tremendous. We’re really ready to get in there and do it.
There’s a lot that goes into this for me. It was my first loss and I had so many emotions back then, so it’s time to get that monkey off my back.
My plan is to win this in a fashion so there will be no third fight.
My focus is on getting the victory Sabado sa gabii. I want to look good doing. I’m not thinking about anything after that.
I’ve worked on a lot of different things in camp. We’re going to do whatever it takes to get the win.
You all haven’t ever seen me look like this. I’ve pretty much locked myself in a cage for eight or nine weeks. I’ve put everything aside. I’ve just been grinding.
Edwin Rodriguez
He’s got some power and some style. He can do a few things. We have to go at it.
I feel great at this weight class. I have the speed and strength to make an impact in this division.
I hadn’t fought a southpaw in a while but we’ve had great sparring with guys like Marcus Browne. I feel very prepared. I’ve never had an issue with southpaws.
I’m excited to be back on the west coast. This is an incredible card. I was at the first fight between Ortiz and Berto and It’s going be another great fight. But I’m coming to steal the show sa Sabado sa gabii.
In boxing you’re as good as your last fight. Right now I’m a warrior who took more shots than I should have. I’ve improved quite a bit but I want to improve on any fights. I’m not going down again.
THOMAS WILLIAMS JR.
“Win, lose or draw you know Thomas Williams will bring the fight to you. I’ve been dropped and gotten up. This won’t go the distance, so don’t blink.
I’ve been boxing since I was five-years-old. I have an amateur pedigree and been pro since 2010. I had to take some time off in 2014 but now I’m back and stronger than ever.
The biggest challenge is just getting to the ring. I don’t want to get caught up in the talk of what he does. It’s just going to be me in there. If I go in and do the things that I’m supposed to do, I should come out on top.
You have to keep your punches short against a pressure fighter. A short punch will beat a wild punch any day. I just have to keep my composure and stay relaxed.
I haven’t watched any of his fights. I leave that up to my trainers to create the game plan and we go from there. I have seen him fight before. We were on the same card, so I did have the chance to watch him live.
JORGE Lara
Montiel has been around a long time. He’s been a world champion and he comes to fight.
I’ve studied him and watched him fight before. I feel I know him very well. I have a plan for how I’m going to get to him.
I am very well prepared. I’m not worried about his experience. I’ve trained hard to be ready and I know what I have to do on fight night.
The winners in this fight will be the fans. We are going to put on a great show and give the fans something to remember.
If I can beat him, I can move up the rankings and get closer to a world title shot. That is my goal and this is a big step on my path.
I’m really pumped up about fighting in front of the fans in Southern California. I know they will appreciate my style and it will be a great atmosphere sa Sabado.”
Fernando Montiel
Lara is a young talented guy and I’m going to have to be at my best. He’s a dangerous guy and I will have to be ready.
I had to change everything to fight the lefthander after preparing to fight Abner Mares. We had a great camp and we will be ready.
I’m excited to be on a card like this. I think the main event is going to be a really fun fight for the fans. I see both guys going down during the fight but I’m going with Victor to win.

Andre Berto Training Camp Notes & Litrato

This fight has always been on my mind….
I’m going to give everyone the fight they deserve.

Oakland, Calif. (Abril 25, 2016) – Former two-time world champion Ang ubang mga “Ang Mananap nga Mapintas” Berto has wrapped up training camp and is set to travel to Southern California for his highly anticipated rematch against “Ang mapintas nga” Victor Ortiz nga ang mga headlines Premier Boxing Champions sa Fox ug Fox Sports kini Sabado, Abril 30 sa StubHub Center sa Carson, Calif.

Here is what Berto had to say from training camp:
On his improvements since his first fight against Ortiz:
I’ve improved tremendously. Mentally and all the way around the board. There was so much that went into that fight and that camp the first time. I shouldn’t have fought that fight, but being who I am, I wanted to get in there. I was just a young fighter who didn’t take the fight seriously. I overlooked my opponent. Now I’m a much more mature fighter. I’ve pushed myself for this camp.
This fight has always been on my mind. Even when I tried to move on, other people continued to remind me about it. Everyone said I needed to get him back. That’s the fight everyone has wanted to see and that everyone deserves. I’m going to give everyone the fight they deserve.
I believe that coming back from my shoulder surgery that I’ve been more motivated and improving as a fighter. Everyone has seen the improvements. We’re definitely ready for anything he wants to bring. If he’s aggressive we’re ready and everyone knows I can stand there and punch
On this training camp with Virgil Hunter:
“Ang tanan nga butang mao ang dako nga. It’s been a long, tough camp. I’m excited and ready to close it all in. We’ve done all the work. We’re in great shape. No stone was left unturned. It’s been a great eight or nine week camp.
On sharing training camp with Amir Khan and Andre Ward and the motivation it provides:
We all feed off of each other. All of us have pretty much been in camp together leading up to and through all of our fights. Even now Andre is there to watch us spar and work. It’s great motivation for all of us to be there. We’re all pushing each other to get better every day.
On how Virgil Hunter has helped him improve as a fighter:
I call Virgil the professional because he’s a teacher. He works you mentally. Each and every day. It’s like being in school. He drills it in your head over and over. He doesn’t let you go through the motions. You have to stay on track mentally to work on all of the things that you’ve been working on. He’s more of a teacher than a trainer.
On what he learned from his fight against Floyd Mayweather:
A lot of people can’t handle the atmosphere and the buildup of that magnitude. I got the chance to really find out how to handle it all. I think I surprised a lot of people around me with how easy I was taking it. I think Floyd was surprised too, he thought I would get shaken like other guys. But I felt like I was supposed to be there. I wasn’t going to be the guy who stands there in shock.
On preparing for Ortiz:
You have to be prepared for whatever he brings to the table. You don’t know how Victor is going to fight and if he’s going to do his extra stuff. Or if he’s going to try to box. Kinsa ang nasayud? Maybe you hit him two or three times and he feels like he doesn’t want to be there. I’m prepared for the Victor of five years ago.
On Ortiz’s claim that he will knock out Berto:
That’s what he said the first time. I’ve made it evident as well that I’ll finish him and finish this chapter. I want it to be over. Still for some reason my name comes up. People continue to cross us together. I just want to finish this chapter and finish in style.
On what fans can expect Sabado sa gabii:
The fans should expect an exciting fight. They might see the start of round 13 from the first one. It’s going to be extremely exciting. I doubt it’s going the distance. This is the fight the people deserve.
