NEF SELLS-OUT AGAIN IN BANGOR AS LOCAL FIGHTERS SHINE IN THE CAGE

Bangor, Maine (Out 6, 2017) –There was no place like home Samdi night for C.J. Egyèr, Ryan Sanders and Fred Lear of Young’s MMA in Bangor.

Fighting in front of a sold-out ballroom a stone’s throw from their training headquarters, the three fighters atop the card at “NEF 30” Rumble in Bangor” all posted impressive victories at Cross Insurance Center.

Ewer defeated Mike “The Mustache” Hansen by submission at 1:46 of the first round to capture the vacant NEF pro middleweight title. Lear landed the NEF amateur bantamweight belt, while Sanders tightened his grip on New England’s pro lightweight scene in a non-title triumph.

It was the second consecutive August sellout in the Queen City, a tradition that began with “NEF Presents Dana White: LookinFor a Fight” last summer.

After his hard-fought win over the much-traveled Jay Ellis, NEF pro lightweight champion Sanders, Se pa klase. 1 nan rejyon an, kept his comments short and sweet while calling out the aforementioned Ultimate Fighting Championship (Ch) prezidan.

“You took the wrong guy last year,” Sanders said. “Come get me now.”

Sanders (15-8) didn’t have an easy road against Ellis, a veteran of more than 80 pro bouts. Ellis had Sanders under control for most of the fight but left himself vulnerable to a triangle choke at 2:34 nan premye tou an.

Ewer dispatched Hansen with a similarly swift maneuver.

“It’s a great feeling to win it in front of the home crowd,” Ewer said. “As hard as we worked (in training camp), I didn’t think anything could stop me.”

The sudden ending spoiled Hansen’s hopes of winning a title for the first time in his 13-year mixed martial arts career.

“This was by far the best training camp I ever had. We were just getting warmed up,” Hansen said. “I had a lot more to give, and I’m sure C.J. had a lot of more to give. But hey, we could do it again.”

Lear highlighted the amateur portion of the card with an authoritative second-round knockout of Walt Shea.

Only the bell saved Shea from Lear’s onslaught at the end of the opening chapter. Lear gained the advantage with a kick to the head midway through that round. After nearly locking in an arm bar that could have ended the fight, Lear bloodied the previously unbeaten Shea with a series of strikes.

The end appeared inevitable when Shea needed Lear’s help to find his corner between rounds, and another interrupted attack hastened the finish only 14 segonn pita.

An emotional Lear lauded his coach, Chris Young of Young’s MMA, before fastening the belt around the teacher’s waist.

“A lot of people around here know his name, but they don’t know the man,” Lear said. “He’s the first guy in the gym in the morning and the last one to leave at night. He’s the reason we’re all here. He’s the reason we’re successful. He’s the reason some of us aren’t in jail.”

In the first two fights of Josh Jonesamateur MMA career, Jones dispatched his opponents by one-punch knockout in a total of 24 segonn. It took Carlton Charles one fewer tick of the clock to take out Jones in the stunning conclusion to a touted tangle of former star collegiate athletes.

Charles, a product of the University of Maine football program taking his initial walk to the NEF cage, turned the tables on Jones (2-1) in a middleweight scrap. Jones again went for the early stoppage with a pair of looping shots, but Charles calmly ducked them before landing one of his own and taking the issue to the mat.

“I just love the competition,” Charles said. “You don’t get hit in the face like this on the football field.”

When the combatants regained their feet, Charles backed Jones against the cage and landed two right hands to the jaw. Jones dropped to one knee and absorbed a sharp left to the head. That persuaded the referee to step in and stop the fight, a verdict that left Jones and his First Class MMA camp visibly puzzled.

It was Charlessecond one-sided combat sports victory in a week’s time. He previously delivered a first-round TKO in the amateur boxing ring. Jones suffered his first defeat since making the transition from basketball, which he played professionally in Europe after starring at Bangor’s Husson University.

One look at Vandredi a official weigh-in suggested that the bout between Roger Ewer (251 liv) and Dustin Freeman (220) might be the typical stand-up, slug-it-out heavyweight affair. Olye de sa, it turned into a ground-and-pound showcase that was right in Ewer’s wheelhouse. C.J.’s older brother, making his debut in the NEF hexagon at 44 ane ki gen laj, hammered out the advantage throughout and earned a TKO via unanswered strikes at 2:31 of the second stanza.

Nate Boucher improved to 2-0 with a first-round stoppage of Jeremiah Barkac, who was making his cage debut. Barkac gained an early advantage in the bantamweight bout with a barrage of strikes, but Boucher cleverly gained leverage with his legs and locked in a triangle choke.

Genyen oswa pèdi, Bangor’s Angela Young announced that her battle with Jessica “The Black Widow” Borga would be the final fight of her career. Borga (6-3) erased any hopes of a Hollywood ending with a decisive TKO at 2:16 fè wonn tant lan ouvèti. Young (2-3), wife of Chris, had never gone less than the distance in any of her prior wins or losses.

In a mutual NEF and MMA debut, Zach Faulkner delighted his home crowd with a second-round victory over David Hart via rear naked choke. Fen a te vin nan 1:42.

Jesse Hutchinson also enjoyed a triumphant debut in the amateur ranks. He stopped Anthony LaPointe at 2:43 of the first round in a welterweight skirmish.

NEF also announced that the promotion’s next mixed-martial-arts event, “Nef 31: The Old Port,” will see the company make its long-awaited debut in Portland, Maine at the brand new, state-of-the-art venue Aura. The event is scheduled to take place on Vandredi, Novanm 3, 2017. Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday, Out 9 nan www.auramaine.com.

On the professional boxing side of the card, Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion, and the pride of West Forks, Maine, Brandon “Cannon an” Berry(11-1, 7 Ko) returns to the ring for a six-rounder with Detroit, Michigan’s James Lester (10-9, 4 Ko). Berry, one of the most popular boxers to ever come out of Maine, will look for his fourth consecutive victory since returning from a shoulder injury last year.

That will prove easier said than done with Lester standing in the opposite corner. Lester is a product of the world-famous Kronk Gym in Detroit where world champions like Thomas “Itman” HEARNS (61-5-1, 48 Ko), Oscar De La oya (39-6, 30 Ko), Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 Ko) and Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 Ko) have trained under the late Emmanuel Steward. Lester was ranked number-two nationally as an amateur. He presents a dangerous threat to Berry, one that could very well play the role of “beke” to “Cannon an” and his legion of fans.

After a bloody war of a professional boxing debut at “Nef 21” mwa pase a, NEF MMA regular Crowsneck Boutin (0-0-1) will once again step into the boxing ring, this time facing Brandon Montella (3-0, 2 Ko). Montella, now a resident of Massachusetts, grew up in Maine and served in the United States Marine Corps.

Headlining the professional MMA portion of the fight card will be Izayi “Viking a” Erickson (6-4) ak Devin Powell (5-1) in a lightweight contest. Both fighters are currently on a three-fight win streak.

“I try to focus on what is right in front of me,” said Erickson during a recent interview on The MMA Report Podcast. “I never looked past my opponents but I like to think what the reward is going to be when I beat this guy.

Neither athlete can afford to overlook the other, but a win for either could very well mean a call from one of the national promotions. Erickson has been there before with Bellator. Powell is an all-around talent with some slick finishes to his credit.

This is the type of MMA fight we absolutely love,” said NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. “You have two guys who match up so well. They’ve both been racking up the wins. They’ve faced some of the same opponents. They’re both solid on the mat and on their feet. I expect this to be yet another crazy, wild NEF MMA main event!”

Crazy” ak “wilddo not even begin to describe the grudge that has developed between Josh “Hook OnHarvey (0-0) ak Matt “Ken poupe” Denning (2-1). The bitter rivals will meet at a fight weight of 150-pounds at “nef 22” in an MMA bout. The bout will be Harvey’s professional debut after a stellar 5-1 amateur career that saw him capture the NEF MMA Amateur Lightweight Title, as well as the northeast regions number-one ranking. The well-publicized personal issues between Harvey and Denning will be settled in the cage on April 23rd.

The professional portion of the MMA card will also feature the pro debut of Harvey’s Young’s MMA teammate Arawon “Inplakabl” Lacey (0-0) as he takes on veteran “Enkasabl 2.0” Derek Shorey (3-5) nan yon bout plum. Lacey vacated the NEF MMA Amateur Featherweight Title in order to turn professional.

That title will not stay vacant very long as Kalèb Hall (6-3) ak Erik Nelson (2-2) face off to determine a new champion at the top of the amateur MMA card. Hall is coming off a first-round submission win at “Nef XX” otòn dènye, while Nelson recently picked up a unanimous decision victory at “Nef 21.”

The amateur MMA card will also feature a women’s fight between Angela Young(0-1) ak “Hollywood” Hannah Sparrell (1-0). Young and Sparrell made their respective debuts last year at “Nef XIX.”

WOMEN’S MMA FIGHT CONFIRMED FOR NEF 22 IN LEWISTON

Lewiston, Maine (Mas 8, 2016) - New England Goumen (Nef), Nimewo-yon sèl batay pwomosyon rejyonal Amerik la, pral kenbe evènman pwochen li yo, “Nef 22: Tout wout mennen isit la” sou Samdi, Avril 23, 2016 nan Androscoggin Bank Colisée nan nan Lewiston, Maine. The fight card will feature a mix of mixed-martial-arts (Mma) and professional boxing bouts. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur women’s featherweight contest to the MMA portion of the “nef 22” kat batay. “Hollywood” Hannah Sparrell (1-0) ap batay Angela Young (0-1) at a fight weight of 140-pounds.

Hannah Sparrell was introduced to the sport when she began taking her daughter to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes. Sparrell soon found herself training at John Raio’s First Class MMA in Brunswick, Maine. She made her in-cage debut last fall against Young’s teammate Kira Innocenti (0-1) nan “Nef XIX” nan Lewiston. Sparrell was victorious that evening, scoring a unanimous decision from the judges after an exhausting three-round fight. She looks forward to representing First Class MMA for a second time atNEF 22.

I’m excited to be entering the NEF cage again, sou April 23rd, against Angela Young,” said Sparrell. “Angela, coming from the school recently named New England’s ‘team of the year,’ has proven to be a heavy hitter, as we saw in her blood-shedding battle at ‘NEF XIX.’ Sa yo te di, First Class has been putting its name on the map, displaying our skilled training, coaches and leadership, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about going head-to-head against Young’s MMA once again. I learned a lot from the experience from my last fight and have used it as a catalyst in my focused training this winter. I will be entering the NEFXXII cage confidently and ready for a good solid fight.

Angela Young is the wife of Young’s MMA founder and head coach Chris Young. Like Sparrell, Young made her debut in the NEF cage last fall at “Nef XIX.” In a wild, “fight of the nightperformance, Young battled back and forth with Rachel Reinheimer (2-0) of Team Sityodtong. Reinheimer would win the decision on the judges’ performance, but Young would win the respect of the entire New England MMA community with her valiant effort. Sou April 23rd, Young vows to chalk up the first win on her record.

I am beyond ecstatic for the opportunity to fight for NEF again,” deklare Young. “Especially against an opponent as respectful and professional as Hannah. I’ve put the work in, I’ve improved my game and I’m aiming for another ‘fight of the night.’ Fwa sa a,, sepandan, my hand will be raised.

Lewiston, Maine (Out 31, 2015) - New England Goumen (Nef), Nimewo-yon sèl batay pwomosyon rejyonal Amerik la, pral kenbe diznevyèm melanje-masyal-boza li yo (Mma) evènman, “Nef XIX,” nan Samdi, Septanm 12, 2015 nan Androscoggin Bank Colisée nan nan Lewiston, Maine. The fight card will feature two amateur women’s bouts. Angela Young (0-0) a se mma Young nan nan Bangor pwograme yo fè premye li kont Rachèl Reinheimer (1-0) from team Sityodtong. Young’s teammate Kira Innocenti (0-0) se tou pwograme yo fè premye li kont Hannah Sparrell (0-0) soti nan premye klas mma nan Brunswick.

Angela Young se madanm lan nan Chris Young – owner and founder of Young’s MMA. She views her debut fight as a way of testing herself.

It’s important for me to test myself,” di Young, “se pa sèlman nan kalòj la viniSeptember 12th, but also through the fight that’s happened the last eight weeks leading up to the NEF event. I feel the fight is essentially a showcase and representation of the grueling training sessions and endless hours in the gym that took place prior to fight night. Living the MMA lifestyle to me meant more than diet modifications and strict training schedules. Athletically, li te plis sou andire nan obstak yo ak pouse limit mwen kòm yon konkiran nan yon fason ki pa t 'janm fè tès. Li te sou pwouve tèt mwen, antrenè m 'ak koekipye mwen pou m' te touche dwat mwen nan etap nan kalòj la.”

Ki kote nan fanm ki sot pase yo yo te rlege nan atraksyon ak kado pòsyon yo nan espò konba evènman, tankou boksè, Mma fanm pa te sèlman leve soti vivan nan sitiyasyon egal ak gason an mma, li gen, nan kèk fason, surpassed it. One has to look only to the highest level of the sport to see this trend. Women’s fights are now routinely present on the main cards of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (Ch). The promotion’s top star, epi ki pi wo li yo peye atlèt, se bantamweight chanpyon fanm li yo nan ronda Rousey (12-0). The women competing on the September 12 kat ap fèt nan forefront de yon mouvman yo elaji opòtinite pou fanm nan nivo rejyonal.

“Mma pou fanm se pa lajman diferan pase sa li se pou gason,” deklare Young. “Li evidan, Mma se yon espò majorite gason, but successful women in the MMA world are on the rise. Atravè sa a kan batay mwen te grappled, sparred ak batay kont mma ekip batay Young la ak yo te bay sipò inègzorableman. Pou ou kab vin youn nan premye konbatan yo ki fi soti nan Young a sètènman gen presyon li yo (osi byen ke yo te marye ak Mr. Young) but it’s also a spotlight I’m hoping will inspire other women who otherwise wouldn’t have pursued MMA. I would bet the women’s fights on September 12th won’t be unlike the others we’ve seen at prior NEF events. Mwen atann mwen fanm yo mete yo sou yon montre gwo paske nou gen yon bagay yo pwouve. Mwen mete san, swe ak dlo nan je nan fòmasyon ak ou pi bon kwè mwen an konsideran opozan m 'fè menm bagay la tou. Sa yo te di, fanm yo yo ale nan mache dèyè li ki plante poto yo nan kalòj la nef.”

Koekipyèr Tou de Young a, Kira Innocenti, osi byen gen opozan li nan “Nef XIX,” Rachèl Reinheimer, sanble yo dakò ak opinyon Young la sou kwasans lan rapid nan mma fanm.

“Mma Fanm se nan monte la,” Di Innocenti. “Chak disiplin anseye yon yon bagay fanm li pa konnen sou tèt li. Mwen te wè li bati konfyans nan tèt mwen ak anpil lòt moun. Fanm yo plis sou tapi yo, the better. Fans can expect my teammate, Angie, ak tèt mwen bay li nou an tout ak ale nan lagè jis tankou vanyan sòlda yo gason an mma Young yo fè. Nou te travay di ki reprezante jimnastik nou an. Nou pral goumen ak fyète, pasyon, epi ki gen kwen yo pi fò kap soti pou nou. Mwen kapab asire ou ke epizod fanm yo pral inoubliyab.”

“Mma Fanm se yon espò jis tankou nenpòt ki lòt,” deklare Reinheimer nan Everett, Massachusetts. “Li pa yon fim aksyon kote ewo a kouri soti nan Woods yo pandan twa jou nan tren ak yon mèt masyal atis ak Lè sa a defèt yon lame tout antye. Li pa yon tapaj ba. Li pa yon ale al kache kò tounen. Fanm sa yo se atlèt grav ki tren avèk dilijans pou ane lè l sèvi avèk fòmasyon an pi bon, ekipman ak resous ki disponib. Fanm ki konpetisyon nan espò konba depanse dè milye de èdtan nan san, swe ak dlo nan je achevman espò yo. Yo fè bèt pou touye. Anplis de sa, gen règ ak limit tan ak prekosyon pou sekirite. Lè yon moun se abitye avèk lide a nan mma fanm, Mwen li konpare l ak boksè oswa kloti, something else that people are more familiar with. The pool of women fighters in New England is deepening fast and the fact that there are more women’s bouts on fight cards reflects that. Opozan mwen ak mwen, yo toulède yo soti nan grav, kan travay di. Nou tou de se manman ak li pran yon anpil nan detèminasyon ak kondwi fè sa a espò pandan y ap jungle travay ak timoun. Mwen t ap travay san pran souf ak ekip mwen an depi batay dènye mwen amelyore jwèt mwen nan tout aspè. Mwen se konsa rekonesan pou fòmasyon an etonan ak koekipye nan Sityodtong ki pouse m 'sa difisil. Sou Sèptanm 12, ou kapab atann yon lagè.”

Pifò moun, tou de gason ak fanm, who join MMA gyms do not do so initially intending to become an active cage fighter. On any given day, one can walk into any MMA gym and find a diverse population of trainees. Men and women, fin vye granmoun ak jenn ti gason, kolye ble ak kolye blan, all train side by side. Most will never step foot in a cage in front of thousands of screaming fans. Most are there to get in shape or learn self-defense. Some, sepandan, yo mòde pa pinèz la konpetisyon.

“Mwen te prezante nan mond lan mma aprè yo te siyen pitit fi mwen moute pou klas jyu jitsu panse li ta benefisye nan li pou aspè nan defans pwòp tèt ou patisipe nan espò a,” raple Hanna Sparrell. “Mwen wè jan li tonbe nan renmen ak jwèt la, pran fòs ak konfyans, and was quick to decide that it was something I needed to be doing too. It didn’t take long before I fell in love with Jiu Jitsu myself, Lè sa a, finalman te vle ak yo eksplore lòt aspè yo nan mond lan mma. Pou ou kab vin nan jimnastik la te vin devni yon dezyèm kay pou m 'ak pitit fi mwen, patnè fòmasyon mwen, a second family. Every day I walk through the doors of the gym is a test, li nan yon egzamen sou Atletisme, osi byen ke yon egzamen sou kondwi mantal ak emosyonèl. Depi ke yo te prezante yo melanje mond lan Arts masyal mwen mete kò mwen an, kè, ak nanm nan fòmasyon, ak konpetisyon nan bout sa a se enpòtan nan m 'pou plizyè rezon, pa sèlman nan reprezante tèt mwen ak travay di mwen, men tou, yo reprezante tout travay la difisil, dedikasyon, ak ankourajman mwen te resevwa nan men zanmi m ', enstriktè, patnè fòmasyon, and fellow fighters along the way. I think MMA training for woman is a great outlet for many reasons, li fizikman se yon gwo antrennman, epi tou se yon fòm bon nan "terapi" nan fen yon jou petèt estrès. Mwen gen anpil fanm mwen tren ak, pa tout nan yo se planifikasyon sou batay, men benefis ki genyen nan espò a se toujou la, epi yo renmen li jis menm bagay la.”

Innocenti, tankou anpil, te vin patisipe nan espò batay kòm yon fason jwenn nan, epi rete nan, shape. Little did she know when her journey started some two years ago that it would take her into an MMA cage with thousands watching her compete.

“Mwen gen yon dezi boule konnen ki jan lwen mwen ka ale. I like exceeding expectations and pushing my limits and that’s MMA in a nutshell. Since I started training in martial arts, te lavi m 'vin fwontyè-mwens. Lavi m 'sou kabann lan vin pi bon lavi mwen an kabann ak vis vèrsa nan. Li nan dezabiye lwen tout distraksyon yo nesesè ak distile lavi m 'desann nan sa ki vrèman enpòtan, nan ak soti nan bag la. Mwen santi mwen tankou li nan te ede m 'vin pi pi pre pwòp tèt ou natif natal mwen. Li nan pi bon an nan Arts masyal ak ansyen lavi modèn.”

Nan kat fanm yo goumen sou mòn lan “Nef XIX” kat, only Reinheimer has actively competed in the past. She dominated her opponent this past spring on her way to a unanimous decision victory in her debut. All of the women fighting on September 12 nan Lewiston kontan pou opòtinite a.

“Nef se yon pwomosyon solid ak yon gwo repitasyon,” di Reinheimer. “I was a spectator at their very first fight card back in 2012. I love Maine and the crowd is awesome there. Mwen pa ka tann!”

“Mwen panse ke fanatik yo ka atann yon montre gwo tout bon,” sèksklama Sparrell. “Pi souvan pase pa batay fanm yo yo te pwouve yo dwe trè amizan, nou nan kou vle pwouve tèt nou merite nan espò evidans gason ki domine sa a. Sa a se premye a pou twa nan kat nan fanm yo sou kat sa a, Se konsa, mwen konnen gen a pwal yon anpil nan kè ak detèminasyon jete nan batay sa yo. Mwen konnen, pèsonèlman, Mwen trè eksite yo reprezante! I couldn’t be more excited to be making my MMA debut in the NEF cage; Mwen te ap gade anpil nan konbatan yo ki mwen idolatre ak gade jiska nan espò sa a soti nan pozisyon yo nan Androscoggin Bank Colisée nan, gen opòtinite a kounye a dwe soti la ak yo vrèman se yon onè vre.”

“Kòm mwa septanm 12yèm rapidman apwòch, M 'ap vin pi plis eksite ak pare jwenn nan kalòj la,” di Young. “Sa a te gen byen yon vwayaj ak mwen se rekonesan pou opòtinite pou fè amatè mma premye mwen ak nef.”

“Se mwen menm ki vwèman emosyone fè premye mma mwen ak nef mwa septanm 12yèm sou,” Di Innocenti. “Mwen te travay san pran souf yo ka resevwa opòtinite sa a epi mwen menm mwen kontan ke lè a rive.”
