Undefeated light heavyweight New Bedford Edet Mkapanam battling back from surgeries Granite Chin’s “Hometown Royalty” this Saturday in Bridgewater, Масачусэтс (see attached with pictures)

QUINCY, Маса. (Мая 3, 2022) – Undefeated New Bedford (Масачусэтс) light heavyweight prospect Edet Mkapanam (6-0, 5 КО) is battling back from retina and shoulder surgeries that sidelined him 16 months before his successful ring return this past March.


The 27-year-old Mkapanam faces Scott “Bombz” Scott on the May 7й Hometown Royalty” card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions in association with Cappiello Boxing Promotions and Shearns Boxing Promotions, at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Масачусэтс (85 Cottage St.), marking the first professional boxing event ever held in that town.


Raised in Brockton, known as the “City of Champions, Mkapanam had an abbreviated amateur career (8-3), although he was a heavyweight winner in the 2017 Турнір Рокі Марчана, as well as runner-up a year later in the prestigious New England Golden Gloves Championships.


Mkapanam had back-to-back surgeries, starting with a torn ligament in his shoulder, followed by surgery to repair his retina in the right eye.


“I didn’t have much of an amateur career and I’ve been learning on the job (а пра),” Mkapanam explained. “I learned in the gym sparring with some of the top fighters in New England like Peter Manfredo, Малодшы. and Mark Deluca. У маёй галаве, I wanted to continue fighting and I kept working hard in the gym while recovering. Some doctors said I shouldn’t fight again, so I upped my intensity in the gym, and when I was examined again the doctors said my eye was a lot better and I was cleared to fight. Mkapanam looked relatively sharp in his March 19й comeback fight, stopping pro debut fighter Igor Pessoa in the third round of their fight in Derry, Нью-Гэмпшыр.

“Slugfest” will be the second Granite Chin event promoted three weeks having presented “Showcase” this past Saturday night in Framingham, Масачусэтс.

QUINCY, Маса. (Студзеня 26, 2022) – Last Saturday night in Detroit, Atlanta middleweight Antonio Todd, Малодшы. registered his career-defining victory, upsetting World Boxing Council (WBC) Ня. 10-rated Hugo “The Boss” Centeno, Малодшы. by way of a 10-round majority decision in the main event.

The 27-year-old Todd, fighting out of Atlanta, won on two of the three judges’ scorecards, 97-93 і 96-94, as the other had it a 95-95 прыцягнуць. More impressive was Todd defeating a fighter who is under contract to the event promoter, Dmitriy Salita.

“It was the biggest win of my career, да гэтага часу,” Todd said. “It means a lot for my career in terms of taking me to the next level. The 8-round main event will pit local favorite Nelson “Chino” Perez (5-0, 2 КО) against New Jersey veteran super lightweight Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey (15-16-4, 11 КО).

Perez is a native of Puerto Rico who lives in Marlboro (Масачусэтс), which borders Framingham. A past New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur, Perez is coming off a dominating 4-round unanimous decision victory (40-34 X 3) Снежні 4й against Raymundo Rios Cardies on a DAZN card in Manchester, Нью-Гэмпшыр. The dangerous Luckey has been a gatekeeper of lightweight up to welterweight divisions having fought top prospects such as Mike Ohan, Малодшы. Jamaine Ortiz, Tyler Tomlin, and Frank Martin. Luckey has recent back-to-back victories against previously unbeaten Eduardo Aquilar.

Hot welterweight prospect Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (7-0, 5 КО), of Holyoke (Масачусэтс), faces Alfred “Keenan” Raymond (1-0) in the 6-round co-featured event.

Denzel, the latest member of the “Fightin’ Whitley family,” is trained by his father and uncle, адпаведна, Derrick and Darrin, who were respected pro fighters in New England.

Ohan, fighting out of Holbrook (Масачусэтс), will be in his first scheduled 10-round bout against Mexican challenger Israel “Filipino Tigre” Rojas (14-24, 5 КО) in a super lightweight, non-title fight.

“Ten rounds means a lot to me,” Ohan said. “It’s something I’ve watched my entire life because all legends fought 10-rounders. This is special for me. I’m ready to go and I will outclass my opponent.”

Ohan captured the vacant New England title last November, when he won an 8-round unanimous decision over Ryan Dibartolomeo, followed by a successful title defense in his last fight in June, when challenger Tyrone Luckey retired after the five rounds.

The New England title is a stepping-stone and next year I feel like I can collect more title belts next year,” he added. “I signed with Chris (Traietti, president of Granite Chin Promotions) because I want to be in big fights.
