LOWELL, Masse. (Januar 21, 2017) – The preliminary round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship concluded last night with 11 exciting Central New England (größer Lowell) men’s novice matches at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Viertelfinale stattfinden wird nächsten Donnerstag Nacht (Jan. 26) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s novice and open class matches. See complete 2017 Liste der Veranstaltungen unter sowie der letzten Nacht vollständigen Ergebnisse.
“We had our second straight awesome show,” New England Golden Gloves Executive Director Bobby Russo sagte,. “There was another great crowd of enthusiastic fans who loved the non-stop action. We switch to Donnerstag night for this coming week’s quarterfinal round and continue every Donnerstag night through February until we go Mittwoch und Donnerstag (Meer. 1 & 2) for the semifinals and final (open class) of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

(Januar 14, 2017) – The 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship kicked-off last night in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium as Central New England (größer Lowell) preliminary-round action featured 14 exciting men’s and women’s novice class matches.

Letztes Jahr, Peter Welch Gym (Süd-Boston) dominated the Central New England tournament, capturing seven individual titles, followed in team scoring by the Lowell West End Gym and Grealish Boxing (Dorchester).
One of the boxers to watch this year is North Chelmsford’s Brandon Higgins, who represents the Lowell West End Gym.

So many outstanding boxers have fought in the Greater Lowell Golden Gloves over the many years such as hometown hero ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, two-time world heavyweight champion John ‘The Quietman’ Ruiz, Dicky Eklund, Beau Jaynes,Manny Freitas, Nate James, Danny O'Connor und so viele andere.
“In addition to sending a complete Team New England to The Golden Gloves Nationals, proceeds go towards so many worthy charities ranging from soup kitchens to cancer funds, the Boys and Girls Club, scholarships and many other needed community-based causes.”

LOWELL, Masse. (Februar 26, 2016) – Western New England dominated the open class finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, winning seven of 10 matches last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The eight men’s individual open class winners earned spots on Team New England for the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships, Mai 16-21, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Team New England includes two of the top ranked boxers in the country, Halbschwergewicht Elvis Figueroa and light welterweight Jaime Ortiz Rodriguez (repeat NE champion), both members of N.E. open class team champion from Western NE. Burlington, MA featherweight Amanda Pavone captured her sixth NE. Titel.
“In the last 10 Jahre,” explained New England Golden Gloves Executive Director Bobby Russo, “we hadn’t been on a good run. Attendance dropped off a little each year. Last year’s horrible weather killed us. Dieses Jahr, obwohl, the excitement was back and attendance was up 30-percent. There was a younger crowd and many novice boxers had good fan bases, which we need to build up every year. We had a lot of good fights and good boxers this year. Boxing is back in Lowell! We had a great season.
“Team New England will be very strong. We have a young team but many of these boxers have a lot of invaluable experience from Junior Olympics competition, from heavyweight on down. I think we have an impressive team that will do very well at The Nationals this year.”
Team champions were Western N.E. in the open class, Zentral N.E. in the novice class.

LOWELL, Masse. (Februar 25, 2016) – Schiedsrichter (Donnerstag, Februar. 25) open class finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, is set at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, as well as three final matches in the N.E. novice division, were held last night in Lowell. See complete results below as well as the bout sheet for heute Abend.
At stake this evening are spots on Team New England for the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships, Mai 16-21, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Winners in each open weight class will qualify.

(Februar 21, 2016) – The best amateur boxers in New England will compete this coming week in the open class semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, an diesem Mittwoch (Februar. 24) und Donnerstag (Februar. 25) abends, beziehungsweise, im historischen Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

NOVICE CLASS FINALS RESULTS FROM LOWELL
LOWELL, Masse. (Februar 19, 2016) – Fourteen 2016 New England Tournament of Champions winners were crowned last night in the novice class of 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Team Central produced the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western with five, and Team Central had two.
The unofficial fight of the night was between Salem, MA Weltergewicht Kenny Larson (Team Central) and his Dorchester, MA opponent Jarrod LoMax (Team Southern), in which Larson won a three-round decision, 3-2.
Portland, ME bantamweight Christian Morales (Team Northern) continued his performance run in the tournament, winning a three-round decision, 5-0, over hometown Lowell favorite Marquis Fowler (Team Central) Morales’ impressive showings in the tournament will lead him into an open division spot in next week’s New Englands.
In a Central N.E. (größer Lowell) heavyweight final rematch, due to a round-time issue, Methuen’s Jesus Flores (Canal Street Boxing) defeated Haverhill’s John Roche (Haverhill Downtown Boxing) by the same score as their original match in another thrilling, back-and-forth bout ending a in three-round decision (5-0). The crosstown rivalry between the two gyms and boxers led up to another compelling match with Flores qualifying for Mittwoch night’s open class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions.
The New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinals and finals will be held nächsten Mittwoch und Donnerstagabends, beziehungsweise, at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The Outstanding New England Boxer in the novice class will be presented to the winner an diesem Mittwoch night at the N.E. open semifinals.

LOWELL, Masse. (Februar 11, 2016) – Team Central had the edge in last night’s novice class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Team Central had five individual winners, followed by Team South and Team West with three victories and Team North had two. The novice class finals of the N.E. Tournament of Champions will be held Donnerstag, Februar. 18 at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The Fight of the Night was the light heavyweight match of the novice class as Team South’s Henry Ventura (N. Dartmouth, MA) overcame two knockdowns to defeat Team North’s Tyler Jacques (St. Albans, VT) who was dropped once and also had a standing eight count, auf dem Weg zu einem dominierenden einstimmigen Entscheidungssieg (5-0).
