Irish amateur heavyweight champion Con Sheehan To make pro debut Jan. 19 in L.A.

CORK, Īrija (Janvāris 4, 2016) – Six-time Irish National heavyweight champion Ar Sheehan will make his long awaited professional debut Janvāris 19 in a four-round bout, pret pretinieku, ko nosaka, at Nokia Club in Los Angeles.
Sheehan is scheduled to be in the swing bout, so there’s a possibility that his first pro fight will air live on the Fox Sports 1 raidījums.
6′ 5 ½”, 220-pound Sheehan is athletic, in addition to being a physical specimen, who also captured a gold medal at the European Union Championships.
Possessing tremendous upside, Sheehan decided to enhance his pro boxing career a year ago, moving to Oakland to work with 2011 BWAA Trainer of the Year Virgil Hunter (pictured above with Sheehan). Dividends are already paying off for the young Irishman.
It’s been eye opening, I suppose, because Virgil is showing me the most simple of things, technically, that I’ve never seen before and it’s making a massive difference to me,” Sheehan said about being trained by Hunter. “My power has increased 10-fold with simple adjustments that I have learned from him. It was a bit of a shock because, I thought I’d cracked the technical side of boxing but he’s taken me to a whole new level.
The 26-year-old Sheehan has the advantage of directly learning from one of the most respected and successful trainers in boxing, Medību zirgs, whose top fighters include Andre Ward (pictured here with Con), Amir Kahn un Andre Berto.
Sheehan is the first Irishman that Hunter has ever trained. “Every coach has his own style and mine is old school from Texas,” Hunter explained. “Mine is slip ‘n slide and my fighters need good reflexes and good legs. Cornelius (Con) isn’t a dancer, but he moves the right way, and I like that a lot. I liked what I saw from the first time we met. He keeps himself in good shape and has a good amateur pedigree. I teach a pro style, even to amateurs, and some like Cornelius are better as pro fighters.
Cornelius is a strong kid. He’s made mistakes, but earlier in his life, and that’s a good thing. There’s always a transition period and it’ll take him a few years. He’s already proven his dedication by being here. If he keeps on track, fighting and training in the United States, he’ll get there in two-three years. The heavyweight division is changing. This is like the time (Tim)Witherspoon, (Greg) Lappuse, (Vaļsirdīgs) Bruno and a few others would win the world title and then lose it right back, līdz (Slaistīties) Tyson came along and cleaned up the division. I’m particularly happy with his progress the last six weeks; Cornelius is focused on doing it, instead of just doing it.
Sheehan is managed by Gary Hyde (Nowhere2Hyde Management), who guided the career of world super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rogondeaux, as well as two-time world middleweight title challengerHassan N'Dam N'Jikam.
Con Sheehan has stood out to me as a fighter with incredible boxing skills who, I knew, would benefit greatly with Virgil Hunter as his trainer,” Hyde added. “After two intensive training camps, we are all satisfied that Con has what it takes to be a major force in the heavyweight division.

SIZE AND POWER MEET TECHNIQUE IN NEF 21 BOXING MAIN EVENT

Lewiston, Maine (Janvāris 5, 2016) - New England cīņas (NEF), Amerikas numurs, viena reģionālā cīņa veicināšana, rīkos nākamo notikumu, “NEF 21: Nemirstīgajiem” par Sestdiena, Februāris 6, 2016 pie ANDROSCOGGIN Bank COLISEE Lewiston, Maine. The fight card is scheduled to feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts. Agrāk šodien, NEF announced the main event of the professional boxing portion of the “NEF 21” Cīņa karte. Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “Cannon” Oga (10-1) will take on the undefeated Tollison Lewis (2-0) in a super welterweight contest scheduled for six rounds.

This is a classic battle of size and strength against technique,” teica NEF līdzīpašnieks un veicinātājs Nick DiSalvo. “In one corner you have a polished boxer with a solid amateur background in the form of Brandon Berry, and he will be fighting in a heavier weight class in this bout. In the other corner you have a powerful brawler with an MMA background in the form of Tollison Lewis, and he has fought most of his career at 155 and 170-pounds. You can’t script a better contrast in styles for a bout like this. Just about anything could happen. It’s anyone’s fight. It’s going to be wild in the Colisee when this one goes off.

Berry is coming off what many consider to be the defining win of his still-young professional career over gritty Mexican veteran Roberto Valenzuela (73-70-2) last November at “NEF XX.” Despite suffering a bad cut above his eye early in the fight, Berry maintained his composure and looked sharp on his way to a unanimous decision victory in the first eight-round fight of his career. The West Forks, Maine native was a 2013 Northern New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur. The fight with Lewis is expected to be the last Berry will compete in above his usual 140-pound junior welterweight division.

It’s great to be getting back in action inside the ring so soon, especially after suffering such a nasty cut over my eye from my last fight in November,” said Berry. “Thank you NEF for putting yet another very tough opponent in front of me. Tollison is a class act in and out of the ring, and I think our styles will make a crowd pleasing bout. I remember being undefeated still and I know how important keeping the ‘0’ on the record is. Tollison is a big, strong athlete and I’m sure he will be more than prepared. Both him and I understand competition, and will most likely be friends after this event. I’m glad to be sharing this main event fight with him, and may the best man win!”

Tollison Lewis’s foray into the boxing world was unplanned. Oktobrī 2014, just 24-hours prior to the start of the firstNEF Boxing” notikums, Lewis stepped in to face boxing veteran John Webster (8-7-1) after Webster’s previous opponent fell out. NEF executives, familiar with Lewis’s striking prowess in his MMA bouts, asked Lewis to take the fight at the last minute and Lewis did not hesitate to oblige. He went on to bully Webster for four rounds, (including knocking Webster out of the ring onto the timekeeper’s table), scoring a unanimous decision victory. This past November, in yet another dominant performance in the NEF boxing ring, Lewis stopped Zenon Herrera (0-1) with a third-round TKO. A win over a boxer of Berry’s caliber, bez šaubām, would propel Lewis to the next level in the sport. Lewis is a member of Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) in Lewiston where he trains under boxing coach Scott Frost.

Brandon is a tough guy and a good boxer,” Teica Lewis. “I’m expecting a war. I’ll be bringing everything I got, and I know he will too, but I’m planning on staying undefeated. I’m not going to run my mouth. I have a lot of respect for Berry, but fans do not want to miss this. This fight will be a war and steal the night. Thank you NEF and Brandon, let’s do it man!”

A proud graduate of Notre Dame’s esteemed Mendoza College of Business, Lee took a less traveled road when he began his pro boxing career in 2010. A two-time New York Golden Gloves champion, Kownacki had a big 2015, notching four victories including knockouts of Maurenzo Smith and Randy Easton. Born in Lomza, Polija, the 26-year-old now calls Brooklyn home. He is opposed by the 24-year-old D.C.-native Kelly, who has won three fights in a row.

Lūk, ko cīnītājiem bija teikt Otrdiena:
OMAR DOUGLAS
“Es jūtos lieliski. I got some great rounds. The judges might have made it a little bit closer than it really was. But I went into his hometown and did what I do.
He was about as tough as my last fight. The only thing tougher than the last one was that I had to come here on the road and do it.
This builds me. It makes me a better fighter. I had a great opportunity tonight and I jumped on it. I feel like I’m the better fighter and tonight I proved it.
FRANK DEALBA
It was a very competitive fight. I think I landed more punches. He was more aggressive, but I was landing more.
This is boxing. I just come here to put on a show for the great fans. I thought I won the fight. I knew I beat him inside.
MIGUEL CRUZ
“Tā bija lieliska cīņa, he was a tough opponent who was very agile and mobile. I had to be patient and it was great to get those rounds. I’m coming for the 147-pound division.
I was definitely trying to break him down slowly. He was mobile, but I didn’t expect him to be so quick.
I was hurting him every time I hit him and I finally got him out of there.
VIRGIL GREEN
The hits to the back of the head were the problem. I wanted the ref to do something about it but that’s what hurt me. I never recovered from it.
I felt like I was frustrating him and out-boxing him. But I never recovered from that blow.
CHRISTOPHER BROOKER
“Tā bija laba cīņa. Viņš ir labs bokseris, but I had to keep it rough. He has some good experience that kicked in, but my will, my heart and my training kicked in too.
My loss is what got me motivated for this performance. No more setbacks, only get backs.
LEO HALL
I tried to work, We were working in there. I wasn’t surprised by anything. Tā bija laba cīņa.
I pushed myself. We got in there and fought. Nav attaisnojuma. We’re going back to work.

Melson Nominated for Most Inspirational of 2015!

Boyd and Friend.jpeg

Ņujorka, NY (Decembris 29, 2015) – Junior middleweight boxer and philanthropist Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson has been nominated for Most Inspirational by Ring Magazine.

Having dedicated most of his life during the last 13 years to help cure Chronic Spinal Cord Injuries, Melson’s selfless efforts have been chronicled by various media outlets. The visibility of the cause he fights for and organization he donates 100% of his fight purses to, Team Cīņa staigāt, has grown tremendously during the last few years.

The 2003 West Point graduate also helped organize three successful “Fighting for the Cure” galas and successfully lobbied New York’s powers that be to reinstate a bill that allocates a percentage of each moving violation towards Spinal Cord Injury research. Last summer, the 15-1-1 junior middleweight along with Dr. Wise Young, Dr. Patricia Morton and others met with Congressman Chaka Fattah at a briefing at the Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC to discuss clinical trials that could help hundreds of thousands suffering from Spinal Cord Injuries walk again. Word from Congress about the trial going forward is expected within 90 dienas.

Kopumā, Melson’s raised more than $350,000 for Team Fight to Walk.

"Last December the WBC honored me with their Ambassador Of Peace Award and this past July the NABF honored me with their Humanitarian Award,"Sacīja Melson, who captured the WBC USNBC title with a career best performance in May 2015. “A sport that I was forced to first partake in because of a mandatory gym class at West Point my Plebe (pirmkursnieks) year along with my belief how I could use the boxing ring in order to help find a way to help people walk again has turned into this.”

"My only hope is that any human being learning of this story, especially children, internalize the following: understand your power of creating a vision, understanding what your own abilities are to achieve that vision and prepare to suffer while holding on to that vision for as long as their is air in your lungs. I believe my experience throughout this journey so far has shown again how one person can be the raindrop that creates the storm of change. What is real in our minds is real. I’m honored that Ring Magazine included me and I hope the publicity helps raise funds and awareness for Spinal Cord Injuries. Thank you to the sport I love for sharing my dream.”

Galvenajā gadījumā vakarā, undefeated middleweight Rob "Bravo" Brant (18-0, 11 Kos, 0-3 in World Series of Boxing) Sv. Paul, Sākot., measures against Atlantic City’s Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 Kos) in a 10-apaļu matchup.

In co-featured bouts, nepārspēts Harmonito “Hammer” Dela Torre (17-0, 12 Kos), of Las Vegas by way of Philippines, makes his United States debut against Rafael Guzman (16-1-1, 10 Kos), of Ensenada, Mexico in an eight-round super featherweight bout and undefeated heavyweight Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller (15-0-1, 13 Kos) Brooklyn, N.Y.. faces southpaw Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 Kos, 2-1 in WSB) of Cleveland, Ohio in an eight-round scrap.

Atvēršana ShoBox raidījums, nesaudzīgu Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 Kos), Brooklyn, N.Y.. by way of Kazakhstan, atbilst Jared Robinson(16-2-1, 7 Kos), of Sumter, S.C. in an eight-round super lightweight tiff.

The event is promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions.

Boxing historian and expert ring analyst Steve Farhood has called every fight on ShoBox since it premiered in 2001. He anticipates another year of excellent, competitive matchups in 2016.

“In 2015, we had eight fighters who appeared on ShoBox un turpināja uzvarēt pasaules nosaukumus. That means the average number of shows in which you’ll see a future world champion is one out of four,"Sacīja Farhood.

“We saw some fantastic prospects last year, ieskaitot Erickson Lubin un Regis Prograis and fresh faces like Jarrett Hurd, Rob Brant—and a fighter who almost seems ready to fight for a title now—SergeyDerevyanchenko. Given Shobox’s 15-year history, I’m fully expecting that we will have more of the same in 2016.’’

Brant, Perez and Miller will be making their second consecutive appearances on ShoBox. Brant and Miller were victorious last Oktobris. 23, Perez last Augusts. 28. Robinson will also be making his second ShoBox start; the four other boxers will be making their debuts.

“Both Brant and Perez won their most recent appearances on ShoBoxand both were impressive,'' Farhood teica. “Brant took a big step up and outpointed Louis Rose in October and Perez pulled off the upset over the previously unbeaten Juan Ubaldo Cabrera augustā. So it makes all the sense in the world to match them against each other. On Jan. 22, we’re going to find out just how hot Rob Brant is.’’

Twenty-six-year-old Brant will be headlining his second consecutiveShoBox. In his first, he captured a hard-fought 10-round majority decision over Rose. Going 10 kārtas pirmo reizi, Brant triumphed in an entertaining tight fight.

Pirms pagrieziena pro novembrī 2010, Brant was a 2010 National Golden Gloves Champion at 178 mārciņas un loceklis neatrodas ASV. national boxing team pro. He currently trains in Dallas alongside top prospect Errol Spence Jr.

“I’m really excited about this fight and I’ve been training hard for several weeks now,’’ Brant said. “I’ve got a very serious opponent in front of me. He rates about a 7.7 at everything, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of weaknesses. I’ve got to go back to pure boxing for this one. I have to be better in every department. It’s my second time headlining ShoBox and I plan on improving from the first time, so viewers can chart my progress. This is my time to show my growth.’’

Perez, who hails from a fighting family, has won four straight and nine of his last 10. He scored a surprising, upset, a 10-round unanimous decision over Cabrera (23-0 iet) in his last outing. Perez, kurš paņēma cīņu par nedēļas paziņojums, outpointed the two-time Dominican Republic Olympian by the scores of 98-91 divreiz un 97-92.

“I’m so excited I’m the main event on national television,’’ Perez said. “I don’t know a lot about my opponent but I’m well prepared, both mentally and physically. I plan on giving the fans an exciting night.

“Camp is going very well. My management team has brought in top sparring with all undefeated boxers, one being Julian Williams. I’m excited that my trainer is allowing me to fight the majority, if not all of this fight, in the southpaw stance. I’m really a southpaw, but I have fought right-handed most of my career.”

Perez’ last loss came on a split eight-round decision to world title challenger Wilky Campfort janvārī 2014. Ārpus gredzenu, Perez is a pharmacy technician at an Atlantic City hospital.

Dzirnavnieks, a former New York Golden Gloves finalist who turned pro in July 2009, is a confident, power-punching heavyweight who comes to knock you out. He won his ShoBox debut, apstāšanās Akhror Muralimov with a devastating right hand to the chin at 1:03 trešajā kārtā.

“I feel like I should have been here two years ago,’’ Miller said. “I’m not coming to make friends. I’m here to annihilate and destroy the whole heavyweight division. On Jan. 22, I’m going to put Donovan Dennis to sleep. I’m not being heard right now, so I have to make myself known. After this fight and what I do to Dennis, things will really, really start to pick up. I’m ready to destroy.’’

Besides being a hard hitter, Miller has good overall skills and movement for a big man whose weight fluctuates from fight to fight. He’s won his last four by knockout, all inside three rounds.

Known for an aggressive style, Miller is now fully focused on a fistic career, but he hails from an MMA and kickboxing background. Jau pāris gadus, viņš sacentās K-1, vēsturiski pasaules premier kikbokss organizācija, un divreiz cīnījās leģendārais Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović.

“There seems to be a new energy and enthusiasm on the American heavyweight scene,'' Farhood teica. “Part of that is explained by the fall of a dominant champion in Wladimir Klitschko and part of it is explained by the emergence of Deontay Wilder, and even Travis Kauffman. So for a young heavyweight like Jarrell Miller, the time seems to be ideal to secure TV exposure and make a name for himself.’’

Dennis, 28, was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. Before turning pro in June 2010, he was a top-level amateur: 11-time Iowa State Champion, 2011 National Golden Gloves runner-up in and 2012 U. S. Olympic Games Trials contestant.
The 6-foot-4 Dennis possesses good skills, movement and punching power to go with his strong amateur background. His weakness is durability; he’s been knocked out in all of his losses.

“I’m ready to fight,’’ Dennis said. “I’ve been training really hard and I am looking forward to the fight. I just want to get this win and move on as I will have a big year in 2016.’’

Dela Torre, considered one of the top young talents in the Philippines, will be fighting outside of Asia for the first time. A big puncher and winner of seven straight by knockout, 5-foot-8, 21-year-old is coming off athird-round TKO over Ricard Betos pēdējais Novembris. 14.

“It’s every boxer’s dream to fight on big cards in United States. This is the next step in my pathway to becoming world champion,’’ Dela Torre said. “I can’t wait. This is an opportunity I will take advantage of and show everyone I’m ready to step up. I let my team concentrate on my opponents and pass me instructions. I just know I’ll be ready and able to stop any opponent.’’

Before turning professional at 17, Dela Torre was a top member on the Philippine National Amateur Boxing Team. As a pro, he has made a “name” for himself after an impressive victory over Jason Butar-Butar on the undercard of a Menijs Pakjao-headlined fight in November 2013.

Guzman, a 5-foot-8½-inch 20-year-old, will be making his U.S. debut and initial start outside of Mexico since turning pro at 16 jūlijā 2011. In Dela Torre, Guzman will be taking a significant step up in class. Viņš ieguva trešo apaļa TKO vairāk Pedro Lopez on his last start in Oktobris. 9.

“I’m feeling very strong and ready for the challenge of this fight,’’ Guzman said. “Fighting on SHOWTIME is a huge opportunity for me. I hear my opponent is a good fighter, but I am ready for anything he can throw. Everybody is going to be talking about me after this fight.”

Yeyubov, 29, who could be on the fast track to stardom, is regarded by many to be the second-hardest Kazakh hitter in boxing, ranked only behind Genādijs Golovkin. Since his days as an amateur when he won more than 150 cīņas, a vast majority by knockout, Eyubov has lived up to his reputation as a fearsome banger who looks to remove the judges from the equation.

He’s overwhelmed his first nine opponents as a pro, winning six by knockout in the first round and two by knockout in the second. The furthest he’s gone in a fight came in his second start when he scored a third-round TKO (2:57) vairāk Jhaquis Davis. In his last outing on Oktobris. 29, viņš guva 1:27, pirmā kārta TKO vairāk Antonio Chaves Fernandes Brooklyn.

Robinson, a pro since August 2009, fights out of Charlotte, N.C. A veteran of several scheduled 10-round fights, he’s undeniably the most experienced boxer Eyubov’s ever faced. A natural 140-pounder,Robinson won his initial 14 starts before losing on a fourth-round TKO to then-unbeaten Amir I par ShoBox in a bout he took on short notice on Feb. 21, 2014.

Divi sākas pirms, Robinson fought to a disputed eight-round split draw against then-unbeaten Haskell Rhodes (23-0 iet) jūnijā 21, 2015. An excellent boxer with good skills and movement, the 5-foot-9-inch Robinson, 33, is coming off a one-sided 10-round decision overChristian Dominguez pēdējais Septiņi. 26. Ārpus gredzenu, Robinson is amassage therapist.
