LOWELL, Mass. (Februar 28, 2017) – The top male and female amateur boxers in New England will compete in the New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinal and finals, i morgen natt (Wed., Sjø. 1) og Torsdag kveld (Sjø. 2), to highlight the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Much is stake for these boxers as the 2016 N.E. champions will qualify to represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (MAI) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Juli).
The competing boxers will represent four teams at the New England Tournament of Champions: Central New England, Western New England, Northern New England and Southern New England.

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship

 

LOWELL, Mass. (Februar 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (MA) Nathan Balakin, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” sa Bobby Russo, New England Golden Gloves Executive Director. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Paulino versus Balakin was a very good fight. Nå, we move on to next week’s open division semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

LOWELL, Mass. (Februar 17, 2017) – Many of the best novice boxers in New England competed last night in the semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
To the delight of an always enthusiastic crowd, hometown-favorite Team Central had the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western (4), Team Southern (3) and Team Northern (1).
“Nate Balakin dominated his bout and neste torsdag night’s finals match with the other light welterweight winner last night. Alejandro Paolino, is one everybody is looking forward to seeing,”

LOWELL, Mass. (Februar 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Central New England (Greater Lowell) divisjon, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The open and novice championship finals will be held neste torsdag natt (Februar. 9) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s matches. See the remaining 2017 tidsplan for hendelser under samt siste natts fullstendige resultater.
Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris i den andre runden, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina on points, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, middleweights Adrien og Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), henholdsvis, James Marino, av Medford, og Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. The Gedneys will not fight each other next in next Thursday’schampionship final of the novice super middleweight division. They will decide which brother will advance and last night’s opponent of the twin that isn’t advancing, Marino or Ferreras, will advance.
Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, og Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship Central N.E. quarterfinals results from Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (Januar 27, 2017) – The red-hot action continued in last night’s quarterfinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship of the Central New England (Greater Lowell) division as men’s and women’s open and novice matches were held in front of another great and exceedingly loud crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Judges were very busy as all 10 exciting bouts, including a Junior Olympic match and two non-tournament bouts, went the complete distance. Individual standouts included a pair of open division boxers, weltervekt Michael fontanez, Nashua (N.H.), and Methuen (MA) mellomvekt Yarmarco Guzman. A representative of Nashua, PAL, Fontanez is a slick, hard hitting southpaw who shutout, 5-0, a very tough Kenny Larson, of Salem (MA). Guzman, boxing out of Canal Street Gym, looked like a veteran boxer on his way to a 5-0 shutout win over Lowell’s Julien Baptiste.
The open and novice semifinals will be held neste torsdag natt (Februar. 2) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s matches. See the remaining 2017 tidsplan for hendelser under samt siste natts fullstendige resultater.
