Springfield, Massachusetts (May 11th, 2019):

In the first **Murphys Boxing** event of a multi fight deal with **UFC Fight Pass**, fans watched NABA Super Featherweight Champion, **Abraham Nova** (15-0, 11 KOs) stop Argentina’sMario Ezequiel Sayal Lozano (18-3-1, 9 KOs) in the second round of scheduled 10 round fight last night in Springfield, Massachusetts live from **MGM Springfield**.

Nova, who is currently ranked #10 in the WBA’s super featherweight world rankings, put on a near perfect performance in front of a packed crowd of ‘Super’ supporters. After a tentative first round from both fighters, Nova found his range midway through the second and exploded on Lozano. Firing off a series of fast and powerful combinations to both the body and head, Nova dropped the only twice beaten, Lozano forcing the referee to call a halt to the contest at 2:26 into the second round.

“I’m ready for anybody. Top 10. Top 2. The Champ. Anybody can get it. I’m the best kept secret in boxing. It’s time to make my national television debut and let the world know who Abraham ‘Super’ Nova is.”, said the outgoing and confident young prospect who sports a bleach blonde beard and has one of the most creative ring walks in all of boxing.

Nova’s promoter, Murphys Boxing founder, **Ken Casey** was thrilled with Nova’s performance and is anxious to get the 25 year old in a title eliminator with another Top 10 ranked fighter.

“He’s got the whole package. The look. The entrance. The talent. The performance. The fan base. He’s accurate and sharp but he also punches with bad intentions. You can just tell he’s on a different level. He’s a world class fighter.”

As for Nova’s immediate future, Casey confirmed he will be making his national TV debut in his next fight.

“We’re finalizing a nationally televised fight for Abraham this summer against another Top 10 fighter that we will be announcing soon. Then I’d like to see him fight for the mandatory by the end of the year. We think he can win the big one, so it’s time to get him the opportunity. We’re incredibly excited about Nova’s future. He’s ready to be a star.”

The co-main event saw Murphys Boxing’s own **William Foster III** (10-0, 7 KOs) absolutely dominate and drop Argentina’s **Ramon Esperanza** (22-16-1, 11 KOs) multiple times before the referee called a stop to the fight at 2:39 into the fourth round of a scheduled 8 round bout. Foster, the current Jr. NABF Super Featherweight Champion and younger brother of NABA Light Heavyweight Champion, **Charles Foster**, looked sensational, using a relentless body attack to overwhelm his more experienced opponent from the opening bell. The buzz on Foster continues to build in New England and he brought a vocal crowd from his hometown of nearby Hartford, Connecticut.

Recent Murphys Boxing signee, Venezuelan Olympian, **Luis Arcon Diaz** (7-0, 7 KOs) continued his knockout streak stopping Argentina’s **Jose Aubel** (8-4, 7 KOs) tom 2:36 into the fourth round of a scheduled 6 round junior welterweight bout.

Local Springfield fighter, **Derek Whitley Jr.** (5-1-1) won a unanimous decision over Philadelphia’s **Bryan Goldsby** (5-11) in a 4 round welterweight fight. Goldsby had several moments throughout the fight but the MMA veteran didn’t stay busy enough against the counter-punching southpaw who won with decisions of 39-27 thiab 40-36 twice.

2x Olympian from Ecuador, **Carlos Gongora** (16-0, 12 KOs) won a hard-fought unanimous decision over a game and rugged veteran, **Damien Ezequiel Bonelli** (23-6, 20 KOs) in a 10 round middleweight fight with scores of 99-91 thiab 98-92 twice. Gongora, who is signed with Murphys Boxing, is the current WBC South American Middleweight Champion.

Springfield’s own **Anthony Velazquez** (6-0, 6 KOs) continued his impressive KO streak against an outgunned **Bruno Diaz** (0-6) dropping him twice in less than a minute into the first round of a 4 round welterweight bout before the referee waved off the contest at 1:32 for a 1st round TKO.

The hard-hitting **Ray Jay Bermudez** (7-0, 5 KOs) who hails from nearby Albany, New York unleashed a barrage of hard hooks dropping a helpless **Patrick Leal** (0-6) three times for a first round TKO at 1:35 seconds into a scheduled 4 round welterweight bout.

Boston based amateur standout, **James Perella** (3-0, 3 KOs) made easy work of **Paulo DeSouza** (0-14) dropping him twice in the first round before the referee called a stoppage 16 seconds into the second round of a scheduled 4 round welterweight fight after DeSouza was badly hurt by a straight right. It was Perella’s third fight in his first two months as a professional.

The event also saw the presentation of Murphys Boxing’s **Warrior’s Code Award** which has been established to honor legendary New England based fighters.

The latest award was presented to light heavyweight title challenger and now successful commentator and trainer, **John Scully.** Scully who is based out of nearby Hartford, Connecticut fought several times in Springfield throughout his career.

The ‘Iceman’ was presented with a plaque in the ring by Murphys Boxing’s **Ken Casey** thiabSean Sullivan and he received a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd after sharing a few poignant words about his career.

Nova, who hails from nearby Albany, New York, recently entered the **WBA’s Top 10 Rankings** and will be making his highly anticipated 2019 debut under the Murphys Boxing banner. After an amateur career that saw ‘Super’ go 167-11 and win multiple national titles, Nova has been on the fast track as a professional having fought an unheard of 11 times in the past two years.

“I truly feel I am ready to take on anyone in the Top 10.”, explains the confident young fighter who just celebrated his 25th birthday in January.

“I hope to be in position for a mandatory shot at the WBA world title by the end of the year. I am staying focused, having a great training camp and I intend to make a statement to the rest of the division on May 10th.”

At only 25 years old, the New Haven, Connecticut resident, whose older brother is Murphys Boxing’s own undefeated **NABA Light Heavyweight Champion**, **Charles Foster**, is fast becoming one of New England’s most talked about prospects displaying the rare combination of power and speed only seen in elite level fighters.

Power punching prospect, **Carlos Gongora** (15-0, 12 KOs) will take on Argentina’s **Damien Ezequiel Bonelli** (23-6, 20 KOs) in an 8 round middleweight bout. “I hit him with a decent shot when I was walking him down and saw that I hurt him,” Joe ❏ Jr ❏ Smith. explained. “So, I looked to end it. I would have liked to have gotten some rust off, but I’m happy with my performance. My jaw feels great.”

“We’re looking to go to the top,” Smith’s promoter Joe DeGuardia stated. “Joe’s plan and goal has always been to be world champion. We wanted (Sergey) Kovalev before this fight, but it didn’t work out. We’re hoping to get him in the fall.”

“Kovalev looks great, he motivates me,” Smith noted. “I think I can take advantage of his conditioning.”

Coming off her historic fight this past May against the undefeated Queen of Boxing Cecelia Breakhus, who won a 10-round decision in the first female fight to air on HBO, three-time world champion Kali “KO Mequinonoag” Reis (14-7-1, 4 KOs) cruised past Mexican welterweight Patty “Las Elegante” Ramirez (11-6, 5 KOs), a former world title challenger, winning all eight rounds.

“She was a survivor,” Reis commented. “There was a lot we wanted to work on, body shots, jabs and more … getting more comfortable. I executed the plan my corner gave me and got the job done.

A Native American from Rhode Island, Reis wants a rematch with Breakhus, “I know I need to stay busy, active and remain fighting at welterweight to get the rematch,” Reis added. “I’m going to stay on her tail. I’ll be ready when it happens, I really want it to happen.”

In the television opener, undefeated junior welterweight “Action” Anthony Laureano (8-0 3KO's) lived up to his nickname, never taking a backwards step, as he pounded Juan Rodriguez (8-10-1 6KO's) in the center of the ring from the opening bell through the end for a dominant six-round unanimous decision. Tus 2016 New England Golden Gloves champion Laureano, who fights out of East Hartford, I, put on an entertaining show in front of his large, loud contingent of fans. Laureano effectively used every punch in his vast arsenal to break down a tough, game Rodriguez.

“I thought I did well,” Laureano said after the fight, “but I’d like to see more angles. I want to see more power, too. It’s there, he felt it; it’s coming. I have a long road. Next fight, I’d like to have an eight-rounder. We’re adding more people to the team. I hope everyone see that I’m getting better each fight. I have more tools and my discipline is there.”

Popular South Boston southpaw Joe Farina (3-0, 2 KOs) overcame a flash knockdown during the opening seconds of the fight, using a relentless attack to defeat junior welterweight Steve Moore (1-4, 1 KO), by way of a four-round split decision.

Irish junior welterweight “Lethal” Larry Fryers (formerly known as Gleeson) improved his record to 7-1 (2 KOs) with a six-round unanimous decision over Anthony Woods (1-7-1). Fighting out of Yonkers NY, Fryers floored Woods with a left hook at the end of round two. Woods was penalized a point near the end of the final round for an intentional head butt.

Rhode Island’s Native Warrior, Kali Reis, is no stranger to bright lights and pressure. Coming off an impressive performance on HBO against undisputed champion and #1 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world, Cecilia Braekhus, Reis looks to return home, back to New England and put her full warrior spirit out on display at the Mohegan Sun.

When commenting on her upcoming fight, Reis had this to say, “Fans can expect to see an even more determined, skilled, hungry, evolving WARRIOR in there! The fight on HBO with Braekhus was such a learning experience and I am grateful for making history in not only women’s boxing but my own personal journey as well.”

The last time Reis fought at Mohegan Sun was in November of last year. She is thrilled to be making this homecoming.

Another local warrior on the card to watch is Anthony Laureano. Laureano earned the nickname “Action” for his relentless, coming-forward fight style. If the East Hartford native is in the ring, fans can always expect an exciting show from start to finish. Laureano was asked what he will provide the fans at Mohegan Sun, and his response was simply, “The same thing they always see, action. Action, that’s it. This bout against Rodriguez will mark the third time in his career that Laureano is fighting at Mohegan Sun.

Local fan favorite, Irish-American Danny “Bhoy” O’Connor (29-3, 11 KOs), fighting out of nearby Framingham, MA, will make his first World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver International junior welterweight title defense against Canadian challenger Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (26-4-1, 17 KOs).

“Me nyuam. Patrick’s Day Clash 3”, starting at 10 p.m. LI / 7 p.m. PT, is presented by Murphys Boxing in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing. The popular Dropkick Murphys will play a live acoustic set prior to the main event.

The 31-year-old Doheny takes on former International Boxing Organization (IBO world champion “Machine-Gun” Mike Oliver (26-4-1, 17 KOs) in the eight-round, co-featured event. A southpaw like Doheny, Oliver is a familiar figure in Boston having been a five-time New England Golden Gloves champion.

Doheny is a native of Ireland, who has lived in Australia, but he recently resettled in Boston’s predominantly Irish section of Dorchester. He is a five-time Irish National Champion who has more than 150 amateur matches, including a victory over Belfast’s Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (26-1, 14 KOs), who is a two-division world champion as a professional fighter.

Last December, Doheny traveled to Bankok to fight Thai favorite Pipat Chaiporn (44-10-1) in a International Boxing Federation (IBF) eliminator to determine the No. 1, mandatory contender for IBF world champion Kenichi Ogawa (23-1, 17 KOs), of Japan. Doheny emerged with a win by12-round split decision (117-11, 116-112, 113-115).

Against Oliver, Doheny will be risking his undefeated record and IBF No. 1 contender rating, but Ogawa is also a veteran southpaw like Oliver, who is viewed by Murphys Boxing and Team Doheny as a good opponent to better prepare Doheny for Ojawa.

O’Connor (29-3, 11 KOs), who was a 2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate, as well as the 2008 National Golden Gloves and US Future Stars champion as an amateur, is coming off .a third-round knockout of previously unbeaten Daniel Gonzalez (14-0-1) for the vacant WBC Silver Intercontinental crown last November at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

Calgary-native Claggett (26-4-1, 17 KOs) hit the road last October and upset previously undefeated Yves Ulysse, ❏ Jr ❏. (14-0) in his backyard for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) North American super lightweight title. Neither Claggett’s IBF North American nor his NABA USA title will be at stake versus O’Connor.
