World featherweight contender Toka Kahn-Clary heads to Hollywood To work with Freddie Roach

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Abril 22, 2018) – World-rated featherweight Toka “T Nice” Kahn-Clary(24-1, 17 KOs) has graduated from prospect to world contender. To fully develop, Kahn-Clary recently shifted his training camp from the smallest state in the country, Rhode Island, to the second-largest city in America, Los Angeles, where he has started working with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

 

 

 

Fighting out of Providence (Rhode Island), Kahn-Clary made the six-week move to Roach’s famed Wild Card Boxing Club to receive fine tuning from Roach, avoid any potential distractions at home, and have an opportunity for world-class sparring sessions.

 

 

 

 

The chemistry was there right away between Roach and Kahn-Clary. After his first day working with Kahn-Clary, Roach said the following: “Today was a very good day. Toka has great ring-generalship, footwork and speed. I was impressed.”

 

 

 

 

“Freddie is very precise,” Kahn-Clary reported after a few days with New England native Roach. “Sometimes I get a little lazy on the ropes. No, no, not with him. I wanted to prove right away that I listen. We were working on the pads and Freddie said, ‘You’re not as dumb as you look.’ I thought that was cool coming from him and took it as a compliment. He’s working on me being in total control in the ring. I’m not really going to learn anything too new from him, but it always helps to add a new move here and there. He saw that I’m fast and work the angles. He’s not changing my style, just sharpening my tools.

 

 

 

 

“When there is sparring, the gym is packed with fighters from 122 pounds up to heavyweight. Not just two or three, but a whole lot of guys, and the competition between everyone is great We’re working on my next opponent. Ahora mismo, I’m just preparing for my next fight, and then we can focus on my opponent when we know who that will be.”

 

 

 

 

 

Toka-Kahn’s remarkable life story started in his native Liberia, where he knew very little about his real mother as a child, or how many siblings he has in his family. When his father moved to the United States and in 1998, six-year-old Toka Kahn and his younger sister joined him there in Philadelphia.

.

 

 

 

Su padre, aunque, was later shot to death, leaving Toka and his sister alone. En 2000, they moved to Providence (Rhode Island) to live with a family that, francamente, didn’t really care what happened to them. All signs led to him falling in with the wrong crowd and getting into serious trouble. He was homeless for a while but, por suerte, he found boxing and that became his salvation.

 

 

 

 

Saved the day his friend first took him to Manfredo’s Gym in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, when boxing trainer Peter Manfredo, Sr., USA Boxing/New England president Jim Perella y la pareja que finalmente lo aprobó, Andrea Watson y Ron Clary, all became key parts of Toka’s dramatically changed life.

 

 

 

 

No matter the weather, including snow and freezing conditions, Toka always rode his bike seven miles each way to the gym from his residence, which didn’t even have electricity. He never told anybody, never complained. Un día, Andrea told the quiet, private kid in the gym that Christmas was coming, and she had a present for him – an extra bedroom. He was adopted and proudly changed his name to Toka Kahn-Clary.

“I talk to my daughter every day,” the affable Kahn-Clary concluded. “Thank God for technology. I facetime because she’s five months old and I don’t want her to forget my face. I don’t know how fighters used to go away to camp.”

 

 

 

 

 

The 25-year-old Kahn-Clary is world rated by the International Boxing Federation (#11) and World Boxing Federation (#13). In his last two fights, Kahn-Clary defeated a pair of undefeated opponents, David Berna (13-0) by way of a second-round technical knockout in Louisville (KY for the interim North American Boxing Association (También) featherweight title, adding the NABA USNBC featherweight crown to his growing display case this past December, cuándo John Vincent Moralde (19-0) was unable to continue after seven rounds of punishment in Providence.

En octubre 19, Kahn-Clary, clasificado #14 en el mundo por la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo, made an emphatic return to battle with a blistering second round knockout of then undefeated David Berna in Atlanta, Georgia in front of a packed house and a nationally televised audience in Atlanta, Georgia as Holyfield celebrated his 55th birthday in his hometown.
The victory also earned Kahn-Clary the WBA-NABA Featherweight Title.
This will be Kahn-Clary’s first fight in Providence since his professional debut in June 2012. The 25-year-old will be making his fourth start of 2017 with prior victories this year against Angel Luna and Francisco Medel.
Just 23-years-old, Moralde will be fighting for the first time in the United States. Holder of the WBC Asian Boxing Council Featherweight Title, Moralde is coming off a third-round stoppage of Philip Parcon on February 28, 2017 in General Santos City, Filipinas.
The heavy handed Moralde is on a three-bout knockout streak, two of which came in the first round.
Co-featured on the outstanding card and also making his U.S. debut is Undefeated Italian Cruiserweight Contender FABIO “Trituradora de piedra” Turcos, (12-0-0, 9 Nocáuts), de Florencia, Italy in an eight-round clash.

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Octubre 5, 2017) – Perspectiva de peso pluma Toka “T Nice” Kahn-Clary (22-1, 15 KOs) will headline his fist show Sábado noche, Octubre 19 at Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta, promoted by Hall-of-Famer Evander Holyfield‘s Real Deal Sports & Administración, in a 10-round bout against Braulio “El Chavo” Rodríguez por el vacante del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (CMB) Continental Americas featherweight title.
The once-beaten, Liberia-born Kahn-Clary, luchando fuera de la Providencia (Rhode Island). is coming off an impressive eight-round unanimous decision this past June against Ángel Luna (11-2-1) in Louisville.
“I very happy about fighting in my first main event,” the popular 25-year-old Kahn-Clary said. “I’m going to put on a show to let everybody know who I am. I’m very excited to be fighting for my first pro title. A victory will put me in the top 15 en el mundo, as well as make me more marketable and better known in boxing.”
Kahn-Clary was a decorated amateur boxer, compiling an outstanding 131-11 record and collecting numerous medals at national tournaments, highlighted by him capturing a gold medal at the 2010 U.S. National Golden Globes Championships. He was also a silver medalist at the 2009 National Golden Gloves Championships and 2011 U.S. Campeonatos Nacionales, in addition to being bronze medalist at the 2012 U.S. Nationals Championships.
Rodríguez (19-2, 17 KOs), who was the WBC super featherweight champion two years ago, is a heavy-handed, battle-tested Dominican. He will be fighting in the United States for the first time as a professional.
“He’s a tough kid who, Yo creo que, should be 20-1 because I watched his last fight and he should have gotten the decision (LSDEC8 to 12-0-1 Alberto Mercado in Puerto Rico),” Kahn-Clary noted. “He’s very awkward and fights in spurts. I need to be smart and use my experience.”
Kahn-Clary vs. Rodríguez, is somewhat of a crossroads fight with career-critical future implications for both fighters with the winner advancing to the next level, while the loser could become a permanent opponent.

“This is the big fight for Toka,” his advisor Seth DeRobbio explained. “I think it’ll be a good fight. His opponent is a big puncher with 17 nocauts en 19 victorias. Toka has an opportunity to showcase his talents in a main event for the first time. Stopping a guy like this who has never been knocked out can be huge for Toka.

“I was upset that the fight was pushed back only because my weight was on point,” Kahn-Clary admitted,” but fighters need to adjust in and out of the ring and everything is good. Some good came out of it, aunque. I found more video of my opponent to watch, and additional training and sparring helps, también.”

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Junio 28. 2017) – Last Saturday night in Louisville, Kentucky, prospecto de peso pluma Toka “T Nice” Kahn-Clary (22-1, 15 KOs) stole the show fighting in his promotional debut for Hall-of-Famer Evander Holyfield‘s Real Deal Sports & Administración, putting on a boxing clinic to earn a one-sided eight-round decision over determined Dominican Ángel “El Gato” Mes (11-3, 6 KOs).

“He must have seen me get caught early in my only loss (vs. Jbon Incassum) and he tried to do that too from the opening bell,” Kahn-Clary said. “He was in great shape and very determined. I buckled him once and dropped him, but he bounced right up and kept coming forward. He applied a lot of pressure and I couldn’t back him up. I felt good and was in great shape. I got hit with a few good shots but composed myself and just boxed I showed I could take shots and keep boxing. I put my opponent down after a flurry with an uppercut, right up the middle, doing the big damage. I wanted to impress Evander, letting him know I belong in his stable, and that I want and deserve a title-fight.”
Kahn-Clary’s adviser, Seth DeRobbio, announced that Toka will return to the ring in September, also back in Louisville, fighting for an undetermined title in a 10-round bout.
“This was a perfect fight for Toka,” él comentó. “He had to fight backpedaling, which is very difficult to do successfully. “It was a great fight for Toka. His previous two fights he knew his opponents were outclassed going into the fight and that he was supposed to knock them out. This fight was against a much better opponent. Toka took a few good shots but he was in top shape. The fans in Louisville really moved watching him fight. We’ll be back there in September fighting for a title to be determined.”

PROVIDENCE (Mayo 18, 2016)) – Prospecto invicto de peso pluma de primera categoría Toka “T-Niza” Kahn-Clary (17-0, 11 KOs) sigue mostrando una mejora en todas y cada una de las peleas. Fin de semana pasado, el nativo de Liberia de 23 años noqueó a un veterano experimentado Orlando Rizo (19-7) en la cuarta ronda en Sportsman Lodge en Studio City, California.
Kahn-Clary, luchando fuera de la Providencia, Puede que todavía esté volando por debajo del radar, pero se está acercando a convertirse en una estrella emergente.. Su pelea más reciente fue su primera pelea programada a 10 asaltos..

“Nada de lo que Toka hace realmente me sorprende porque sé desde el principio que él es especial.,” Manfredo comentó. “Toka continúa mejorando con cada pelea y tiene hambre de pasar al siguiente nivel.. No hay prisa, el no gira 24 al año que viene. Todavía está madurando. El niño al que noqueó fue Nicolas Walters’ principal compañero de entrenamiento.
“Simplemente no quiero ponerlo con los grandes nombres todavía. Está madurando pero no ha llegado hasta el final. Está mejorando todo el tiempo, juntando mejor sus combinaciones en cada pelea. También he notado que ahora es agradable y relajado en el ring.. Se está convirtiendo en un buen boxeador que siempre tuvo poder.. Top Rank is doing a great job moving him. Everybody’s happy.”
Un aficionado estadounidense decorado que tenía una 131-11 registro, destacó por una actuación medalla de oro en el 2010 Guantes de Oro Nacionales Torneo, Kahn-Clary pasó en un tiro para que el 2016 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team to turn pro three years ago.
“I’ve been boxing 10 años,” Kahn-Clary added. “Knowing what I’ve already accomplished, I also realize that I’m still improving. I’ll be back in the gym Lunes to get ready for the next call we get about my next fight. (Top Rank’s) Brad Goodman is one of the best matchmakers in boxing. He and everybody at Top Rank are doing a great job positioning me for a big opportunity. That may not happen this year but, Ojalá, it will sometime next year. I’m boxing so much better now than I ever did. I used to fight like I was in a fog but, ahora, my eyes are wide open.”
Not bad for a kid who left his mother and siblings in Liberia when he was six, only to have his father murdered a year after he arrived in the United States. He’s overcome many difficult obstacles in his young life, most of them tougher than any opponents he’ll every fight, including a stretch in which he was homeless. It’s only made him tougher and an even better overall person.
