This is the second undefeated fighter I am facing in only seven fights. I think that says a lot about me compared to rest of the featherweight division. I want to stop him like I did my last undefeated opponent as that would be a major statement.”

On making his 2021 дебют:“It is great to be back in the ring and return to action. I have been out of the ring for over a year and used my time wisely in the gym, but I also know that ring time is important at this stage in my career. I want to get a big win and return as fast as possible.”

On fighting on 3.2.1 Boxing with no fans:“I want to thank Thompson Boxing for helping me so much early in my career, guiding me, building me into the fighter I am today. I love the way they treat fighters, and it feels like a family, not a company. I wouldn’t want to be with any other promoter. This will be my first time fighting with no fans so it will be interesting to see how I react. Bottom line is I’m coming to fight.”
Andrew Strode gives his thoughts on his recent training camp, his matchup with Sanchez and more:

On his recent training camp:“We went back to the basics and put that hard work in the gym. I am very focused for this fight. Most people don’t know, but I have defeated five undefeated fighters in my six fights. I’ve have gone on the road to do it as well. I am in the sport to fight the best and this camp has been a very good one.”

On his matchup with Jose Sanchez:“Sanchez is a good fighter, I know he is smaller than me, despite fighting at higher weight classes, which I think is interesting. I have nothing bad to say about him though, he has done everything he has needed to up until this point, but I am different than anyone else he has ever fought. He will soon realize that he made a mistake taking this fight. There is nothing he can do to stop me. I’m coming out on top.”

On making his 2021 дебют:“It is nice to return as I am basically coming off a two-year layoff which has been rough since my career was going really well to start. I never lost focus in the gym and this is a really big chance for me to show the world my skillset as the bout will be shown live on the internet. All my people will be tuning in and I can’t wait to let my fist fly.”

Ruben Villa Aims to Stay Unbeaten on Friday Night

“Even though I’m young, I saw a lot of styles in the amateurs and even now as a professional I spar with a lot of top quality boxers,” said Villa, who is a former back-to-back National Golden Gloves champion. “Gonzalez might have the big fight experience working for him, but I know how to beat him in a convincing way.”

 

 

 

 

 

Villa has certainly gotten off to an impressive start since hitting the paid ranks two years ago. In his seven fights that have gone the distance, Villa has lost only one round on a single scorecard. He boasts an excellent combination of size and speed, plus a defensive acumen far ahead of most prospects his age.

 

 

 

 

 

“I feel like my development as a complete boxer has taken a big jump this year,” said Villa, who is managed by Danny Zamora. “I’m able to see things a lot faster and that opens up different angles and combinations.”

 

 

 

 

 

Villa, who resides in Salinas, Халіф. and is trained by Max Garcia, will fight for the fourth time this year after earning six wins last year. He credits the consistent activity for his fast rising development.

 

 

 

 

 

“It’s real important for young fighters like myself to stay as active as possible in the early years,” Villa said. “High level sparring is great, but it doesn’t replicate the real thing. We have all this protective gear and we wear big gloves. It just feels different. That’s why I’m extremely thankful to my promoters for keeping me as active as I’ve been.”

Heralded Prospect Ruben Villa Remains Undefeated with Unanimous Decision this Past Friday Night in Ontario, Каліфорнія

Hamazaryan wins American debut by unanimous decision this past П'ятниця night in Ontario, Каліфорнія

Your training camp was unlike any other in that you sparred against world champions Oscar Valdez and Jessie Magdaleno, as well as blue-chip prospect Michael Conlan. What was it like going against such high-level talent?

“Sparring against world champions elevates your game and boosts your confidence tremendously. I held my own the first few sessions with Oscar and Jessie and they called me back for other sessions. These guys expect solid work so I was glad that they brought me back. I’m gaining experience from some of the best so it’s awesome. It was also great sparring with Michael. With those three I was able to see different styles that will help me in my development.”

Your opponent Carlos Flores has had an uneven career. How do you get up for a fight where you are the clear favorite?

“You can’t think that every fight is going to be easy. If you’re not ready for a fight then anyone can make you look bad. This sport is unforgiving in that way. I’m going to be on my “A” game and it will show П'ятниця.”

Earlier this year you made the decision to relocate to the Los Angeles area and leave your hometown of Midland, Tex. What has been the toughest part of this move?

“I’m doing what I love to do and that always involves sacrifices. The most difficult part is being away from friends and family and being far from home. I knew moving to Los Angeles was the right choice because if you want to get better, especially in the lower weight classes, this area is the place to be. On any given day you can spar with contenders and world champions so it’s been great for me.”

How do you see Friday’s fight going down?

“I can predict a solid win for me and my team. I’m going to let my punches go and just be active. I’ll work off the jab to open things up and I’m going to show an improved defense. I’m going to look the best I’ve looked so far. That much I know.”

The 19 year-old Villa of Salinas, California compiled an outstanding record of 166-17 in the unpaid ranks that included two National Junior Golden Gloves titles and two National Golden Gloves championships at 123 фунти.
Ruben did not make the U.S. Olympic team due to his struggles to make 123 pounds in the Olympic Trials. He will campaign as a professional in the featherweight division (126 фунтів).
“Я схвильований, and I have been working very hard to get to this point. I cannot wait to turn professional,” said Villa.
“It is very cool to sign with two great promoters. We were offered the opportunity, and we took it.”
“As for the Olympic trials I was disappointed, yet happy at the same time. I was happy to make it that far, and now I am ready for the next phase of my career.”
Villa began boxing at the age of five when his family, who were big boxing fans, took young Ruben to the gym.
That spawned his amateur career, which saw him reach the number-1 national ranking at 123 pounds and saw him defeat eventual United States Olympian Shakur Stevenson.
“He is a good fighter, and I hope he wins a medal and at some point we can break the tie in our fights against each other. I see that as a big fight down the line in the pros.”
Villa defeated Stevenson in the National Golden Gloves and Olympic Trials.
The 5’6″ Villa is managed and trained by Danny Zamora. Zamora performs the same roles with world-ranked NABA, СУСІДИ, NABF and Boxicino 2014 lightweight champion Petr Petrov.
Villa describes his style as a boxer who uses angles and does not get hit much.
“My boxing influences are a bit of Vasyl Lomachenko and Canelo Alavrez.”

“My parents started me in boxing, and they have been extremely supportive in this. I also have 4 sisters (Ruben is the 2nd oldest of the 5 діти), and they are very supportive as well. “
Villa has sparred with Petrov, Bruno Escalante and Manuel Avilla, and that has given him a good gage on where he is at as he embarks on his career.
“I do well with those guys. I can hold my own, and those guys are great professionals. It gives me confidence as I start out.”
