Orlando was an amateur and professional boxer in his native Puerto Rico, traveling around the world to compete. He won 110 នៃ 125 amateur matches and 22 នៃ 29 as a professional with 18 លើក, reaching a No. 10 rating in the junior middleweight division.

Malone is the son of CBHOF inductee Sean Malone, sr., who was inducted in 2011.
