NEW YORK (December 11, 2017) – Less than 24 hours after he defeated previously undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux, WBO Junior Lightweight World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl “Hi Tech” Lomachenko attended yesterday’s (Zondag, December. 9) 31st jaarlijkse Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony to accept the Ring 8 2017 Muhammad Ali International Fighter of the Year Award.
The gala event was held Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York, en David Diamante once again served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
Six world champions were in attendance, including three award winners: Lomachenko), International Hall-of-Famer Michael Spinks (Historical Award), and five-time world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (New York State Female Fighter of the Year); World champions Vito Antuofermo, Iran Barkley en Luis Collazo showed their support.
“Our awards banquet was one of the best ever,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “We are deeply honored that Vasyl Lomachenko attended the day after the biggest fight of his career. His presence created an electric atmosphere, the type that is rarely seen. The other honorees, led by Michael Spinks, made it an afternoon that will always be remembered.”

NEW YORK (December 5, 2017) – Limited tickets are still available for this Sunday afternoon’s 31st jaarlijkse Ring 8 Holiday Event en prijsuitreiking, tussen 12:30 en 5:30 p.m. EN, bij Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.
Six world champions will be attending, including three award winners: WBO Junior Lightweight World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl “Hi Tech” Lomachenko (Muhammad Ali International Fighter of the Year), Hall-of-Famer Michael Spinks (Historical Award), and five-time world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (New York State Female Fighter of the Year).
Another Hall-of Fame star, Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, is unable to attend the festivities because of a travel conflict but he did receive his Legends Award at the last Ring 8 vergadering.
World champions Vito Antuofermo, Iran Barkley en Luis Collazo are cdenfirmed special guests.
Other 2017 Ring 8 award winners include two-time Irish Olympian Michael Conlan (International Prospect of the Year Award), 2012 U.S. Olympiër “Mijnheer” Marcus Browne(New York State Fighter of the Year), van Staten Island.
“The anticipation is continuing to grow as we move closer to the Ring 8 awards banquetop zondag,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “We are honored that Vasyl Lomachenko and Michael Conlan will be attending despite having fought at Madison Square Garden the night before. Many consider Lomachenko the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and Conlan the best prospect. And it will be a special treat for fans to see Michael Spinks, who will be given recognition as being the first light heavyweight champion in history to have won the heavyweight crown.

NEW YORK (November 15, 2017)) – Hall of Famer Evander “Real Deal” Holyfield and former world welterweight champion Luis Collazo will be special guest speakers at Ring 8’s next monthly meeting,Dinsdag nacht, November 21, at O’Neill’s Restaurant (64-21 53rd Drijfveer) in Maspeth, New York,
Because a large crowd is expected, only Ring 8 members will be allowed to attend this meeting, but membership may be obtained at the door for those interested in joining Ring 8.
“Evander Holyfield is one of the few living legends in our sport,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “Zo, you can imagine how thrilled we are to have him as a guest speaker. We had planned to present Holyfield with the Ring 8 Legends Award at our holiday banquet, but a lucrative business opportunity will prohibit him from being there that afternoon. In plaats daarvan, we will present him with that award at O’Neil’s. It says a lot about Evander that he adjusted his schedule to remain in New York to attend our meeting.
“Luis Collazo is a terrific fighter in his own right, having been a former world champion. His career seems to be on an upswing once again and we are anxious to hear about his future plans.”
Holyfield has retired as a boxer with an outstanding 44-10-2 (29 KO), but this past year he has operated a New York City-based promotional company, Real Deal Boxing. A U.S. Olympiër, Holyfield is the only unified world cruiserweight champion, as well as a four-time heavyweight champion of the world.
He had a 16-7-2 record in world title fights and won 19 van 30 fights with two draws against past or present world champions, defeating a Who’s Who list of all-time greats such as Dwight Muhammad Qawi, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe en Mike Tyson (tweemaal), onder de meer notabelen.
Born in Brooklyn and now a resident of Queens, Collazo (37-7. 20 KO) veroverde de World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight world title on April 2, 2005, winning a 12-round split decision over hometown favorite and defending champion Jose Antonio Rivera in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Bobby Cassidy, Sr. & Jr. Ring 8's oktober-gastsprekers

NEW YORK (Oktober 18, 2017) – Inductee van de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame Bobby Cassidy, Sr. en zijn zoon, Bobby Cassidy, Jr., zal de Ring zijn 8 gastsprekers op de volgende maandelijkse bijeenkomst morgen nacht (Donderdag nacht, Oktober. 19, 7 p.m. EN begin), bij Plattdeutsch Park Restaurant (1132 Hempstead Turnpike) op Franklin Square, New York.
Cassidy, Sr. (59-16-3, 27 KO) professioneel gevochten tussen 1963 en 1980, het veroveren van de Iers-Amerikaanse en New York State licht zwaargewicht titels. Zijn meest opvallende overwinning, misschien, was een split-decision van 10 ronden op het Felt Forum over de uitdager van de wereldtitel Don Fullmer in 1971. Silverglade has owned the world-famous Gleason’s Gym since 1983. The iconic boxing gym dates back 80 jaar, when Gleason’s Gym was originally founded in the Bronx, before moving to Manhattan from 1974 naar 1984, then to Brooklyn in 1985, and finally into its present location in Brooklyn a year ago at 130 Water Street.
Montaldo developed and operates a special program at Gleason’s Gym – stoPD (Support training to overcome Parkinson’s Disease) designed to help people with Parkinson’s Disease.
Romano has had work experience in boxing for more than 35 years as a research consultant for HBO, as well as a producer and host of a cable television show about boxing, and he is a certified amateur boxing judge in New York. Frederick will speak about boxing books – he’s written several – and movies.

“Full credit should be given to Bruce Silverglade for turning Gleason’s into arguably the top boxing gym in the world,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “With all the great fighters who have trained there over the years, he probably will have some fascinating stories to share with us. Alex Montaldo runs a boxing program at Gleason’s for people afflicted with Parkinson’s disease. We look forward to him explaining how it works.
Frederick Romano has written a new book detailing the history of boxing on the radio, taking us back to a golden age before television came into existence. He will bring along some books for purchase at a discounted price for Ring8 members. Our three speakers should make this a very enjoyable night for the membership.”

NEW YORK (Juni 12, 2017) – New York State Boxing Hall-of-Famer, manager Stan Hoffman, en voormalig wereldkampioen Regelio “Turbo” Tuur will be Ring 8 guest speakers at its June monthly meeting op dinsdag nacht (Juni 20), vanaf 7 p.m. EN, at O’Neill’s Restaurant in Maspeth, New York.

This coming Ring 8 meeting is sponsored by Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment.

“Ring 8 is looking forward to having Stan Hoffman and Regelio Tuur as our featured speakers this month,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “Stan has managed or advised many world champions over his career, Tuur included. He will have some fascinating stories to share with us. Although Tuur was a world champion as a professional it was his one-punch knockout of Kelvin Banks in the Olympics that many remember him for. It will be nice to hear him relive that and other fights of his stellar career.”
Hoffman, 86, has managed, advised or promoted 38 world champions during nearly 50 years working in the boxing industry. A product of Brooklyn and Bronx, Hoffman still advises some boxes and attends fights, but he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Hoffman worked with 38 world champions starting in 1980 met Joe Manleyand later including his first world heavyweight champion, Michael Benntt, as well as others such as Hasim Rahman, Iran Barkley en James Toney.
Suriname-native Tuur (46-4-1, 30 KO), who fought out of Hoogvliet, Nederland, was een 1988 Olympiër. In 1991, Tuur became the New York State lightweight champion and the following year, he captured the European super featherweight titlist.
Tuur defeated 28-1-1 Eugene Speed by 12-round unanimous decision to become World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Super Featherweight Champion. He held the WBO crown for two years, (1994-1996), successfully defending it six times, before retiring for five years until he made a comeback in 2001.

NEW YORK CITY (Mei 14, 2017) – Referee/retired boxer Randy Neumann (31-7, 11 KO) Randy Neumann will be Ring 8’s guest speaker at its mnthly meeting this coming Tuesday nacht, Mei 16 (7 p.m. EN begin), at O’Neill’s Restaurant, gevestigd in 64-21 53rd Drive, Maspeth, NY 11378.

“Ring 8 is fortunate to have such a fascinating speaker this month who will share his vast experience with us,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch zei. “Randy Neumann was a heavyweight of note in the 1970’s who boxed a main event at Madison Square Garden against Jerry Quarry. Later he would become one of the best-known referees in boxing working major fights involving Mike Tyson and other champions.”
