Ecco ciò che i combattenti avevano da dire Giovedi:
JAMEL HERRING
“Camp era fantastico. I started in Cincinnati and finished in D.C. with Barry Hunter, Patrice Harris and of course Mike Stafford. During my time in D.C., I sparred with Lamont Peterson, who turned southpaw for me.
I have a great deal of respect for Shafikov. Tough guy, experienced but he had his chance and it’s my time now. This is my toughest fight on paper but I feel good. It’s my time to earn my respect.
It’s a huge honor and blessing to headline on ESPN on 4th of July weekend. I want to put on a good show,
Its extra special to honor on this weekend, being that I was a marine and to headline and I want to put on a patriotic and great performance.
I believe a win will open the doors for a world title. Nella mia mente, I am taking this fight as a world title fight. That is how important this fight is and before the end of the year, I hope to get a crack at a world title.
DENIS SHAFIKOV
Everything went well in camp. We had a four-month camp. We were supposed to fight a couple of months ago but when that fight was cancelled, Denis relaxed for a minute and then this opportunity came up.
Herring has a great record and he represented the U.S. alle Olimpiadi. He is still young and I feel that my experience will be the determining factor.
I accepted this fight because a win gets us in line for big opportunities, including another shot at a world championship.
PATRYK SZYMANSKI
I’m excited about the opportunity to take on an experienced opponent. I think it will be a good test for me and a chance to show off my skills.
I’ve worked very hard so that I can leave an impression with my performance. These are the kind of fights that I have to win and win in style if I want to reach my goals in this sport.
Wilky CAMPFORT
Training camp went very well. I don’t know too much about my opponent but I did see him fight once in Tampa. Come Sabatonotte, I will see what he has.
It means a lot to fight on ESPN. The first fight that I saw that involved a fellow Haitian was Daniel Edouard on ESPN and it gave me a lot of motivation to pursue my career.
I am not only fighting for myself, but all of the people in Haiti and Florida that have been supporting me.
A win will put me right back into where I was when I had my long winning streak. A win will put me back in the mix at 154-pounds.

Barrios will be taking on the most accomplished opponent of his career as he looks to put himself in the number two position for Jose Pedraza’s 130-pound title. For this training camp, Barrios has moved part of his training camp from San Antonio to Las Vegas where he has sparred at the UNLV Gym and at the gym of former world champion Robert Guerrero.
Here is what Barrios had to say about his fight, training camp and more:
On fighting in his first 12-round main event
This is what I’ve worked my whole life for, to be fighting in main events on national television. I’m confident that I’ll be able to the full 12-rounds if need be. My goal is to get the knockout though. I really want to make a statement in this fight.
On his matchup with Devis Boschiero
All I know about Boschiero is that he’s got a lot of fights and he’s a top contender. I know he’s hungry so I’m not taking him lightly. I’ve seen some tape on him and I know he likes to come forward. Everyone can expect to see a lot of had punches being thrown by both of us. I’m expecting a war.
On the landscape of the super featherweight division
It’s a very tough division loaded with a lot of great fighters. I would say Lomachenko, Pedraza and Vargas are the top dogs for now. Salido is also up there. It’s one of the toughest divisions in boxing. I’m hoping I can become a champion in this division. A victory against Boschiero puts me right there to challenge for the title. I’m a hungry fighter and everyone will see that on Luglio 9.”
On hosting training camp in Las Vegas for the first time
Training in Las Vegas has been incredible. Running in high elevation is something new for me. I had to get used to it when I first got out here. It’s been a tough camp but I know all the hard word will pay off.
On fighting on ESPN during primetime il Sabato notte…
I’m very happy to be fighting on ESPN during primetime il Sabato notte. I have a lot of family, friends and fans back home who’ll be tuning in. I just want to go out there and shine. I feel my style is explosive for television and I hope everyone enjoys what I bring to the table. Everyone will see a determined fighter in myself, who’s going to leave everything in the ring.

BETLEMME, PA. (Giugno 29, 2016) – Former title challenger Edner Cherry (35-7-2, 19 KO) defeated contender Lydell Rodi (23-2-1, 11 KO) con decisione unanime (98-92, 97-93 X 2) in a 10-round super featherweight main event of Premier Boxing Champions MARTEDI TOE-to-toe su FS1 e Boxing Champions from Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Papà.
Ciliegia, di Wauchula, Fla. who trains out of St. Pete Boxing Club with welterweight champion Keith Thurman, got off to an early lead in the second round, landing a left that stumbled Rhodes briefly.
A former football standout and wrestler in high school, who has competed in both boxing and mixed martial arts professionally, Oklahoma City’s Rhodes made the fight physical and ugly early.
Rhodes said, “He held and a lot which made it tough to get in a rhythm.
He was slick,” answered Cherry. “So I held because I didn’t want him to get in those quick shots.
A sloppy round five saw both fighters slip to the canvas, but neither was ruled a knockdown. What became a wrestling match continued rounds six through 10, with clinching and grappling throughout.
Moments before the final bell, Cherry stunned Rhodes, cementing what would become his unanimous victory.
Cherry said, “I thought it was a great fight. I was in a tough fight stasera and I am glad to come out with the victory.
A discontented Rhodes expressed, “It was a heck of a fight. I wanted to back him up in the later rounds but he was strong. It was an ugly fight, but I believe I won. Non sono d'accordo con la decisione. Nothing more, nothing less.
Cherry concluded, “Training and sparring with Keith (Thurman) was great. He’s so strong and it helped me in this fight. We were both training for big fights at the same time and it helped me increase my strength and pick up this win stasera, without a doubt.
Televised coverage kicked off with unbeaten Omar “Super O” Douglas (17-0, 12 KO) stopping Cuban Alessio “L'uragano” Collado (19-2, 17 KO) in the seventh round of their scheduled 10-round super featherweight bout.
A fast-rising star out of Wilmington, Delaware, Douglas jumped out to an early lead, controlling the action in the first frame. Douglas continued moving Collado around the ring in round two, forcing a frustrated Collado to clinch, which resulted in both fighters awkwardly stumbling to the canvas.
The Miami native Collado came out aggressive in rounds three and four, outworking Douglas and winning him the pair of rounds on all three judges’ scorecard.
Tuttavia, Douglas settled in throughout rounds five and six. His jabs to the body proving an effective deterrent to Collado’s aggression and furious pace he displayed in the earlier rounds.
The end came in the seventh round as Douglas landed a left hook to Collado’s head that stumbled Collado, forcing him to take a knee and never get back up.
I noticed that he has his head in the middle and that is unusual for a tall guy,” said Douglas. “So I was focusing on the right hand up the middle. I was able to finish him with a hard right, sinistra, right combination.
Collado acknowledged, “He hit me with a good left hook and that broke my nose. I feel it was a close fight though, and I was in the fight up until he got me, but he is a good fighter.
Douglas agreed with Collado’s assessment of the competition adding, “E 'stata una dura lotta, but I had a great camp and that showed stasera. I think I need one or two more of these kinds of fights and I will be ready for a title shot.
The second televised bout showcased unbeaten prospect Antonio Russell (7-0, 5 KO) securing a unanimous decision (60-54, 59-55 X 2) victory over Jamaica’sRudolph Hedge (10-4-3, 4 KO) in a six-round super bantamweight showdown.

BROOKLYN (Giugno 26, 2016) – Prizefighting returned to CBS il Sabato with a Fight of the Year candidate as undefeated welterweight world champion Keith Thurman edged former world champion Shawn Porter in a close but unanimous decision scored 115-113 by all three ringside judges.

Il 12,718 fans in attendance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the viewers across the U.S. watching the first primetime boxing event on CBS since Muhammed Ali-Leon Spinks in 1978 were treated to a slugfest between two of the brightest stars in boxing’s glamour division.

Thurman (27-0, 22 KO) and Porter (26-2-1, 16 KO) combined to throw over 1200 punches in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS event, presentato da Premier Boxing Champions. The marquee showdown was a story of accuracy vs. activity, as Thurman landed 50 per cento dei suoi colpi di potenza, rispetto a 38 percent for Porter, e 44 percent of his total punches compared to just 36 percent for the challenger. While Thurman landed at a higher percentage, Porter was the busier fighter, throwing over 100 more punches across 12 round.

“One Time” and “Showtime” delivered as advertised, with the powerful sharpshooter buckling Porter multiple times, while the swarming and smothering Porter barreled forward to bully Thurman into the ropes. And while there were no knockdowns, the back-and-forth blockbuster never lacked action and culminated in a standing ovation in the second-highest attended boxing event in Barclays Center history.

I want to thank Shawn Porter for a tremendous fight. He’s a great warrior,” said Thurman. “Defense is the key to victory. He smothers his punches a lot and makes it difficult for the judges to score. I was able to rock him with clear, effective blows and I believe that was the difference today.

“I would give him a rematch. It was great fight. He was a great opponent. Everyone was saying would he be my toughest opponent to date. I wasn’t able to drop him but I did buckle him a few times.”

The former world champion Porter, a perennial underdog but consummate gentleman, didn’t complain about being on the losing end of his second close decision in a title bout.

“We worked hard, Keith is a great champion,” Porter said. “My dad says to keep your head up. I think I won the fight, but I’m satisfied because the competitor came out stasera.

We need that rematch. I know the fans want that rematch. If he gives me another chance, I’m going to work hard in the ring and leave with his title.

The opening bout of the CBS telecast featured a matchup of undefeated super welterweights as Jarrett Hurd graduated from prospect to legitimate contender in the stacked 154-pound class with a dominating 10th round TKO over Oscar Molina.

Hurd (18-0, 12 KO) got to work early, flooring Molina for the first time in his career in the opening round with a powerful counter right uppercut. The bigger and taller Hurd was the more active fighter from the outset, dismantling the previously unbeaten Mexican Olympian with a supremely effective inside game. Hurd threw nearly 750 punches over 10 round, rispetto ad appena 376 for Molina, collegamento su 220 power shots at a nearly 40 percent clip.

Hurd put a stamp on his performance in the final round, closing the show by out landing Molina 33-7 in the final round. With Molina taking a brutal beating and seemingly defenseless in the final minute of the final round, Ricky Gonzalez stepped in to halt the contest at 2:02.

This is definitely a big win for my career,” Hurd said. “He was taking a lot of shots, but he knew how to survive. It was a big uppercut that knocked him down in round one. People know from my last fight that I have a great right uppercut. He was hurt a couple of times. I don’t think it was a bad stoppage. Molina is a very tough guy who just kept coming through.

This fight here puts me up with the top contenders in the division. I felt like I could have gone three or four more rounds. I was getting stronger as the fight went on. We’re going right back to the gym so we can get in there again.

Molina (13-1-1, 10 KO) protested, but barring a stunning knockout he was just seconds away from suffering the first loss of his career via a unanimous decision.

I felt like Hurd was throwing a lot of punches in the tenth round but they weren’t really hurting me,” Molina said. “He was staying busy but he was never really hurting me.

“I went low and I had my head down and he caught me with that uppercut in the first round. He got me with a shot I wasn’t expecting but it was definitely a flash knockdown. Non stavo male.

I was supposed to use my footwork a lot more but I ended up smothering my shots. He had an awkward defense with a lot of bending down and I couldn’t get into a rhythm.

This was a big opportunity for me and I felt like I fought a good fight. I’m going to come back stronger. We’re going to work on a lot of things and get back in there.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS, presentato da Premier Boxing Champions, was promoted by DiBella Entertainment.

Earlier in the evening on SHOWTIME, undefeated heavyweight sensation Anthony Joshua successfully defended his IBF Heavyweight World Championship for the first time with a seventh round knockout of previously unbeaten American Dominic Breazeale at The O2 in London. VIDEO: http://s.sho.com/28VGgsa

Below are quotes from Joshua after Sabato di win on SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL:

Many thought that Dominic Breazeale wouldn’t be able to stand up to your power and speed, but were you grateful for the opportunity to work a little bit more of your boxing skills?

"Bene, it’s hard because you can see they’re hurt with every shotwell not every shotbut when you start catching them flush, they can feel the shots with these ten ounce gloves on. Così, it’s just a matter of time, but in the process I didn’t want to be receiving any haymakers on the way back.

“It’s been tough I had two weeks off after my last fight, and got straight back in the gym so it was tough. I get a nice little break for once and then I can come back with recharged batteries.

We know Deontay Wilder was watching the fight. Have you got a message for him, the WBC Champion?

Unbelievable inspirational person. He was patient, 30-odd fights [e] got his hands on the WBC [belt]. I’m following suit. I’m making my way into the U.S. with SHOWTIME backing me as well. Così, he watched that.

He can pick up whatever he wants to pick up from that, but it’s so different when you’re in the ring with each other. So one day we’ll get to experience what each other’s about.

Who do you want to fight next?

Well I think it’s gonna have to be the likes of [Joseph] Parker. I was really looking at Fury… I hope he gets better soon. He hurt his ankle unfortunately, which has postponed it because I was hoping to get that some time in the winter if everything went well July 9th like it didstasera, but we’re gonna have to reschedule that and in the meantime, we can look at other opponents like Parker, if he’s vacant, or anyone else that the people want.
