Slåss ut från Phoenix, Benavidez picked up four victories via stoppage in 2015 and continued with four more in 2016 including blasting out previously unbeaten Francy Ntetu in June and tough contender Denis Douglin in August. Senast, Benavidez began his 2017 campaign with a second-round destruction of Sherali Mamajonov in January.
Medina is a hard-hitting veteran with 31 knockouts i hans 37 career wins. His biggest win to date was a shocking third round knockout of then unbeaten J’Leon Love in 2014 and last year he exceeded expectations by giving world champion James DeGale all he could handle in a 12-round matchup before ultimately dropping a decision. Prior to DeGale, the 28-year-old had suffered six losses in 42 slagsmål, although those defeats came against opponents with a combined record of 187-16-3, including four previously undefeated fighters.
An unbeaten fighter out of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexiko, Lara is undefeated since turning pro in 2010 and winning his first four fights by knockout. The 26-year-old made his U.S. debut i 2015 with a first round stoppage of veteran Mario Macias. His last outing saw Lara step up in competition against former multiple division world champion Fernando Montiel, who Lara knocked down four times before stopping in the first round.
Briones enters this fight coming off of a first round stoppage of Jose Emanuel Vargas last year, which followed up a durable performance against then unbeaten Miguel Flores that saw the fighter out of Aguascalientes, Mexico drop a 10-round decision. That bout served as the U.S. debut for the veteran fighter who turned pro in 2009 and was unbeaten in his first 21 pro slagsmål. As Berto wraps up training camp in Oakland with renowned coach Virgil Hunter, he shares some thoughts on camp, his matchup with Porter and more:
ANDRA BERTO
How has training camp gone? Do you feel like you’re still learning and growing with Virgil Hunter?
We’ve had a tremendous training camp out here in the Bay. I’m focused and I’m in great shape. Training with Virgil is like stepping in to a classroom. I’m always learning and growing as a fighter when I’m in the gym with him. We’ve been pushing to the limit every day and I’m just ready to go to work.
What would you say are Shawn’s strengths in the ring? What do you have to prepare for?
Shawn’s a great fighter but we are fully focused on what we need to do in the ring. My boxing IQ has grown so much and now everything we’re doing has a purpose. I’ve had tremendous sparring this camp and everyone I’ve been there with has been trying to push me to a whole other level so I will be ready for anything come fight night.
We are going to be ready for whatever Shawn brings on April 22. We’ve seen him brawl and try to press guys out but he might try do something different in this fight and we’ll be ready for it. I’m known for my speed, my power, my explosiveness and I’m in fantastic shape so this is definitely going to be a can’t miss fight.
What does it mean to you to be in camp with the other great fighter’s in Hunter’s stable including Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Andrzej Fonfara and Peter Quillin, bl.a.?
We have a tremendous atmosphere out here and we all feed off of each other. Training with all these great fighters and world champions pushes you to another level. We all support each other and it definitely adds another level of motivation during training camp for each of our fights.
What does it mean to you to be in a position to become a three-time world champion?
Becoming a three-time world champion is great motivation. The WBC belt was the first belt that I won and I want it back. I avenged my loss to Victor Ortiz last year but getting the green belt back would bring everything full circle. At this point in my career, every fight is big and a potentially career defining fight so I’m taking everything one step at a time and preparing like I need to.

Andre Berto vs. Shawn Porter Media Conference Call Highlights

Lou DiBella
We’re going to start with “Showtime” Shawn Porter, out of Las Vegas right now. Tidigare IBF världsmästaren. Everyone knows he’s trained by his dad, Ken, and he was a tremendous amateur. He has been a tremendous pro. And I know he’s ready for this important matchup on April 22nd. Shawn?
Shawn Porter
Läget, alla? Ja, we’re just at the latter part of camp now, winding down, and we’re still working out hard, and everything is coming together just the way we want it. Så, vid denna punkt, the excitement is building up and I can’t wait to get out there and see everybody, and be a part of what’s going on with this fight.
L. DiBella
Have you done anything special to prepare for Berto? Jag menar, anything different in terms of sparring partners or anything in your usual routine?
S. Bär
I personally have been going 15 rounds up at an altitude of about 8,500 feet yesterday. I think that’s pretty special. We sparred 10 rounds with three different guys, and we pushed ourselves a few more rounds in the ring, and then also sprint some on the road as well. Så, we’re working hard. We swim every chance we have and try to work every chance. We have an oxygen chamber in our training facility for our performance center.
Så, everything we’re doing is just always to try to do it bigger and better each fight.
L. DiBella
Andre can you tell us a little bit about your training camp and how you feel about the fight as fight week is less than a week away.
Andre Berto
Training camp has been tremendous. We’ve stepped everything up this camp. Tremendous sparring. I just can’t say enough about how this camp went. Jag är i bra form. I’m focused. We have been pushing ourselves to the limit each and every day. I’m more than excited coming into this fight. I’m ready to get it.
Stephen Espinoza
We are thrilled to be back at Barclays Center and thrilled to be working with DiBella once again. At SHOWTIME, our spring schedule is starting to take shape. Detta April 22nd event is the start of a very aggressive lineup of fights over an eight-week span. There’s more to come on that in the very near future.
In terms of our televised fights, we’ve got compelling matchups that provide a little bit of everything for all sorts of boxing fans.
This main event is part of a series of ongoing welterweight fights that will determinepossibly by the end of the year, maybe early next yearwho is the top dog, så att säga, in boxing’s glamour division.
We’ve had a series of phenomenal welterweight fights, including Shawn’s fight last summer on CBS.
Both Andre Berto and Shawn Porter, really gained national exposure early in their careers on SHOWTIME via ShoBoxno surprise there. Andre was on ShoBox i 2006; Shawn Porter in 2009. And they have progressed in very significant stages of their career on SHOWTIMEAndre four times on SHOWTIME, and Shawn five times on SHOWTIME and once on CBS.
These are two guys that everybody knows. They’re likeable, charismatic, and articulate. They’re guys who respect the sport and represent it well. Perhaps more importantly, they are all action fighters, and there’s no way that this fight is going to disappoint. Så, top to bottom, a lot to offer on this April 22nd kort, och vi ser verkligen fram emot det.
Q
Do you think that a victory against Shawn would represent maybe the best win of your career?
EN. Berto
Ja. I believe so. Looking down at my career, I’ve gone through a lot of physical things and now just coming back from that and just being healthy and a lot stronger, I’m a lot more focused.
Everything is just starting to show like it needs to be, and I believe that this fight right here definitely could be one of the biggest ones in my career, Säkert.
I fought a lot of great guys coming up. I’ve fought with Steve Forbes, I’ve fought David Estrada and all those guys, they were big names at their time.
The most satisfying one for me right now, was my last one against Victor Ortiz just because there was so much emotion that went into that fight. So much of a storyline that went into that fight and how much it meant to me.
Emotionally all around the board, I think probably there’s no more satisfying win right now at this point. I fought Carlos Quintana, Steve Forbes, and all these guys that were very great fighters of their time, and they were at the top of their division at their time.
Q
Do you think a win against Shawn would surpass that as the most satisfying because you’re a little older, you’ve been off a while and it’s going to put you back into position to fight another world title if you win?
EN. Berto
I’m not sure, man. Som jag sa, that last fight just had a lot connected to it. And a lot connected to it. This fight here is a big fight as well. Every fight right now at this point in my career is a big fight and a very big, defining fight. Så, I’m just taking each of them, and one step at a time, and just preparing like I need to. I need to just get through them one at a time.
Q
Shawn were you surprised that coming off of a loss that you were able to get a fight that would be a title eliminator to be in a position right back in a world title fight?
S. Bär
Du vet vad? Ärligt, that’s kind of the business side that I don’t really think about as much. I didn’t think about how many fights it would take for me to get back to a championship fight.
After that fight, my team went back to the drawing board figuring out what fight we can take to position ourselves to either get a rematch with Thurman or get another title, and that was it. That was how this fight with Andre Berto came to be.
This was the guy that I was told will be the one to position me to get back to a World Championship fight, och sedan, boom, we’re at the press conference announcing the fight, and they tell us that it’s for an eliminator.
I couldn’t have been more surprised. I don’t think there was anything in my life that I’ve ever been more pleased with or surprised other than that.
When DiBella came up and said it would be for a title eliminator for the WBC title, Jag menar, my heart justit just glowed with happiness. Så, Jag ser fram emot denna kamp. I been looking forward to this moment for a long time and I hope to just win.
We agreed to the fight with the understanding that, this will lead to something better, but again I didn’t know how long it would be. And then the man comes on the stage and says it’s for an eliminator, and I’m like, wow.
Q
If you could wave the magic wand, which guy of Thurman and Brook would you rather have a rematch against, och varför?
S. Bär
Thurman. I think he’s the better fighter. I think finally being able to beat him, I think would be something on my resume, in my legacy, that would be remembered for a very long time. Han är en mycket bra fighter; a very good defender of his belt/belts, and I’m looking forward to fighting him in a rematch.
Q
Shawn, I saw some comments you made recently discussing Berto’s fight against Mayweather and how you seemed to suggest that you were going to follow Floyd’s blueprint for his boxing Berto, and staying on the outside, and you seemed to kind of say that you were going to follow the same strategy. Is that true?
S. Bär
Bra, tittar kampen, I definitely admired, as any fight that Floyd Mayweather’s in, his boxing ability, but that was something that was very effective against Andre Berto. Så, we’ll definitely pick our spots where we want to box; where we want to use the ring. But at any rate, through the entire fight, we will control the action as well as the ring.
Q
Do you plan on showcasing more of your boxing ability in this fight against Berto?
S. Bär
Bra, it depends on the fight. Like you just said, my boxing ability may be a little underrated. I’d say, there are moments in the ring, sometimes you make it more of boxing, sometimes you make it more of the pressure and the aggression.
Så, we’ll build this fight accordingly. We’ll take a look at what’s going on. We’ll make our adjustments during the fight in the corner as well, and we’ll see. You might see more boxing; you might see more pressure. We’ll see how it plays out.
Q
You mentioned before that you felt that Keith Thurman was a better fighter than Kell Brook. Can you just explain why you feel that way?
S. Bär
I just think overall. His boxing ability, ring IQ, fart, quickness, ström, allt. My personal opinion is it could be a biased opinion, but I feel like Keith Thurman is the better boxer/fighter than Kell Brook.
Q
Annat, what do you think about Shawn saying that he might use Floyd Mayweather’s template against you in your fight? What’s your reaction to hearing that?
EN. Berto
Det är bra. Jag menar, that’s his business. He can us any game plan however he wants to. Whichever way he wants to maneuver, whatever the situation is, that’s on him.
We’re just preparing for every look. We’re just preparing for every look. What we need to prepare whether he’s boxing brawling.
We’re focused on what we need to do. We don’t really focus on the way he’s trying to beat us. We’re trying to make sure that we’re going to be all right, and we’re going to be focused.
Shawn, he’s shown in the past he can brawl. He can press the guys out. He might try to use something new in this fight. I’m not sure. I’m just focusing on what I got to do. Som jag sa, we’re in tremendous shape all around the board. Vi kan box; we can bang; we can do whatever we want to do as well. So it doesn’t matter. We’re going to see what it is. We’re getting a start on that.
Q
Shawn do you think Andre can handle your pace?
S. Bär
That’s my mindset, my team says every time we get in the ring is that our opponent won’t be able to keep up with the pace that I perform at. I do everything that I can, leading up to the fight, to be ready for a fight like that.
I never go into the ring with the thought that I’m going to throw 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 stansar en rund. It’s just kind of how the fight flows and how it goes. Så, ja, I’m always prepared to fight at the faster paceI think at a faster rate than most of the guys that I box.
I think that there is going to be an advantage for myself getting in the ring with Andre Berto, I think that I’ll be able to dictate the pace, and push his heart, and make him work harder.
The skills as well as the power should make this a very good fight. This is why this fight is very anticipated, because you know what I can do and what Andre can do.
But I think I’ve shown out there that there’s nothing that you can doubt when I’m getting into the ring, it’s down to I’m going to perform the way I’ve always performed and the fight will take care of itself.
Q
Besides Mayweather, do you think you’re the most superior opponent that he’s faced, and if so, why?
S. Bär
Ja, ja, ja. I would say I am. He’s fought some very good boxers. Some punchers and guys that were aggressive. Some counterpunchers. He’s fought them all. I think the thing that separates me from those guys is that I can do all of it. Very rarely do you have that in another fighter than can do it all in the ring.
Q
Annat, what are your thoughts on what Shawn brings to the ring, and do you agree that with him, that maybe besides Mayweather, that he’s your most difficult opponent?
EN. Berto
I can’t really say until I get in there with him. Som jag sa, I been there with a lot of guys, and I’ve been with a lot of different type of guys from my first 12 eller 13 slagsmål.
I’ve been in there with a few world champions. I have to go in there and see. Mayweather, like I said, you’re bringing up Mayweather. Mayweather is Mayweather.
He’s going to go in there and move around, låda, he’s going to play, real slippery. I believe that he is definitely one-of-a-kind and showed it throughout the years.
When it comes to Shawn, he does a lot of things wrong and he does a lot of things right. So I can’t say that Shawn’s going to be my most difficult fight, because I haven’t been in there with him yet. We’ll say that he is definitely a great fighter.
Q
Do you feel that at the time of some of your earlier wins, that you were getting credit, and do you think that you have ever really gotten credit for being a better fighter?
EN. Berto
Everybody knows the boxing game, you’re as good as our last performance. Just as they can raise you up high in the next great thing, going through defeat or going through some tough times, they’ll write you off quick.
They’ll write you off quick in this game. And that’s just how the game goes. I can’t sit there and just be upset at it. I knew what I was getting into.
With all of the buzz surrounding me, coming into the pro game, and me being a world champion myself, I can give myself accolades, but if things don’t go your way, they’ll definitely discredit you.
You have to see it for what it’s worth, man, and end-of-the-day, just know who you are. You can’t let this fight game ultimately define you.
It won’t give you the credit that you feel that you deserve at the end of the day, and that’s what, and I believe. Them retiring. I don’t know too many fighters that have retired satisfied.
They’re satisfied with this fight game, or satisfied with the notoriety of things they’ve got, from the writers, from the critics or the fans. I don’t know too many at all. You just got to go in there and do what you got to do. Like, just know who you are, and go and make yourself happy.
Q
Annat, just piggybacking on what you said earlier, do you feel that you’ve been written off, going into this fight?
EN. Berto
Bra, from my first loss moving forward, I’ve been written off. Som jag sa. going into it, it’s just where the fight game is. It’s just where the fight game is. From my first loss on, it’s been this and this, this and that. I’ve been through my hard times. I’ve been through everything in this fight game and have been in front of that TV screen.
That’s what you need to understand. I’ve got a chance to fight all over. I was with Lou DiBella and HBO. Everything that I’ve done has been in the eyes of the public. My rise, my fall, going through my defeats.
Coming back from shoulder surgery, coming back trying to continue to make a statement, make people know I’m still here. Jag älskar det, because I love that roller coaster ride. I’ve never seen my career coming into the game as being perfect. Never. Never.
I’ve always wanted to feel everything that this game had to offer. But it’s just like Muhammad Ali said a long time ago, he was able to feel everything this game had to offer. He got knocked down. He got stopped. He wasn’t tired. He was the best alive. This and that. He had to experience it all.
When I’m done, I’ll be able to read my story and see that and explains everything this game had to offer.
Q
Annat, he’s obviously he’s the younger fighter and he’s a pretty big favorite in the fight. How much motivation has that given you in this camp?
EN. Berto
It’s a tremendous motivation for me. I believe they’ve been able to see a whole different type of determination and motivation in me. And they do see it in these fights as well. So it’s not going to stop. It’s not going to stop me. They can think of that some other type of way, but everybody right now, vid denna punkt, it looks like they’re in the way right now for what I want. Det är allt. Det är allt. That’s all they’re getting out of my way.
Q
How difficult has it been for you to not be more active since the Broner fight?
S. Bär
That’s a tough one to call. I think more than anything it’s been a little tougher mentally, outside of that, we still work hard and I’m on SHOWTIME for a reason.
I’m a Showtime fighter, so I’m never worried, about any amount of time that I stay out of the ring in the actual fight because we have tons of those before the actual match. Så, I’m just excited about this fight coming in, och jag ser fram emot det.
Q
Do you think maybe for your next fight if you’re able to beat Andre, do you feel like a Thurman rematch because, especially, this is an elimination match for his title that that is a realistic opportunity for you in your next fight?
S. Bär
I’m hoping so. I know that he has two different belts. He will have two different mandatories, so I understand all that, but I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring with Keith Thurman in a rematch as soon as we can after this fight with Andre Berto.
Q
Annat, you’re going into this fight with roughly a one-year layoff since your last fight with the second fight with Ortiz. Can you tell us about that layoff and how you think it might affect your performance in this fight?
EN. Berto
The layoff is the layoff. That’s something you got to ask the promoter, the managers on that. But anybody that follows me, they know I’ve been staying busy anyways. within this year I’ve been staying working out and I’ve been staying in shape.
I’d say we’ve had a nice lengthy camp to make sure to knock off all the rust. And we’re sharp, man. We’re sharp. And all ready to go. So I don’t think it’s going to play too much of a big part in this as well.
Q
How does that affect you being off for that period of time, because as soon as the bell rings, it may get very heated very quickly.
EN. Berto
It’s not going to affect me too much at all. Everybody knows me. When it comes to me, I’ve been scrappy that way my whole career. And plus we’ve been having tremendous sparring. We been having tremendous, tremendous sparring here at the gym.
So far everybody is trying to push me to a whole other level. I’m here putting real money on my own head to make sure these guys come from the first round. Always trying to see if they can knock me out.
So all the sparring has been top notch, and it’s definitely been highly, highly competitive. We’re going to be ready to go.
Q
As the more veteran fighter, are there going to be changes in your approach?
EN. Berto
Ja, it’s crazy to say; I’m an old vet now. My boxing IQ has changed so much when it comes to everything in general.
We’re doing things for a reason. Not just out there throwing punches because we can. Not just always just being fast because we can, or being strong because we can. Everything is for a purpose and we’ve just been fine-tuning everything. And everything has been falling in place pretty amazingly.
Q
Shawn, do you think there are going to be any ring rust problems, or how are you going to deal with that?
S. Bär
LÅT BLI, no ring rust at all, man. I’m just looking forward to this fight. I know it’s been a while since you guys have seen me, but I’m always working, and my team is always on me, making sure I’m in shape, getting in shape, staying in shape. And that I’m controlling my weight, my eating, all that kind of stuff. Så, just nu, there’s no problem for Shawn Porter.

This show epitomizes what the Premier Boxing Champions series on FS1 and FOX Deportes is all about – ung, hungry boxers making the climb to the top,” sa Tom Brown, VD för TGB Promotions. “We’ve watched Mario Barrios grow up in the ring. His fight against tough veteran Nelson Lara represents another big step in his progression. Oscar Molina is shifting from 154 pounds to 147 pounds and will face one of the toughest challenges of his career when he takes on rugged Levan Ghvamichava. This is a fan-friendly card that promises plenty of excitement.
Standing more than six feet tall, the 21-year-old Barrios won his first 12-round fight last July when he defeated Devis Boschiero after winning seven times in a busy 2015 kampanj. The San-Antonio native followed up that victory with stoppage wins over Claudio Rosendo Tapia last December and Yardley Suarez in March to run his record to a perfect 18 wins in his first 18 Pro startar.
Originally from Nicaragua but now fighting out of Costa Rica, Lara was unbeaten in 17 av hans första 18 pro fights after turning pro in 2004. Lara enters this bout having won his last two contests by stoppage including his most recent triumph in March. Lara will fight in the U.S. for the third time as a pro in a career that has seen him enter the ring in six different countries.
Molina, av Norwalk, Calif., just east of Los Angeles, var en 2012 Mexican Olympian who tore through his opposition after turning professional in 2013, registering knockouts in 10 av hans 14 slagsmål. The 27-year-old fought 10-round draw with Dominque Dolton last year before losing an exciting contest against 154-pound world champion Jarrett Hurd. Now fighting at 147-pounds, Molina will look to climb the ranks in his new division.
Ghvamichava returns to the ring in Tunica after a dropping a split decision to top contender Yordenis Ugas in February. Priot to that, the 31-year-old had delivered a sensational knockout of Breidis Prescott last July. Trained by Virgil Hunter in California, Ghvamichava is originally from Poti, Georgien. He carried a five-fight winning streak from 2014 till 2015 that included wins over previously unbeaten fighters Chris Singleton and Jonathan Garcia plus veterans Cosme Rivera and Sergio Reyes.

LOS ANGELES (April 9, 2017) – Josesito Lopez (35-7, 19 Kos) earned a decisive unanimous decision (100-89, 100-89, 100-89) över Saul Corral (21-9, 12 Kos) i Ring Star Sports promoted main event of Premier Boxning Champions FS1 & FOX Sports frånThe Novo vid L.A.. Levande.
Although Corral was able to finish the fight, Lopez controlled the action throughout, dropping Corral to the canvas in the 10th round to cement the victory.
The co-main event saw Alejandro Luna (22-0, 15 Kos) nederlag Andrej Klimov (19-4, 9 Kos) genom enhälligt beslut (97-93, 98-92, 98-92) in a thrilling ten-round lightweight bout. Luna stunned Klimov on a couple of occasions, but the resilient Klimov would not be knocked out, instead going the distance in a fan-friendly battle.
The televised opener featured 2016 US. Olympian Karlos Balderas (1-0, 1 KO) getting a powerful stoppage in his professional debut over Thomas Smith (3-5-1, 2 Kos). Balderas stalked Smith with precision and forced Smith’s corner to throw in the towel following the first round.
The non-televised fights featured a slew of talented fighters making their highly anticipated professional debuts. 2016 Mexican Olympian and Bronze medalist Misael Rodriguez (1-0) secured a unanimous decision (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) över Brian True (1-7-1, 1 KO) in four-round slugfest.
2016 Lithuanian Olympian Eimantas Stanionis (1-0, 1 KO) landed punches in bunches againstRasheed Lawal (1-5-1). Stanionis applied pressure with two swarms of punches in the first round, the second barrage proving too much for Lawal and forced the referee to stop the fight in round one (2:35).
Lindolfo Delgado (1-0, 1 KO) stoppad Luis Silva (3-10, 2 Kos) in round three (:33). Delgado knocked Silva down with a vicious uppercut in the second round and Silva never fully regained himself before his corner stopped the fight in the third frame.
Money Powell IV (1-0, 1 KO) used his height and reach advantage to dominate Todd Templeton (0-1), knocking Templeton down twice and then stunning him a third time before the referee stopped the action in the first round (2:55).
Here is what the fighters had to say following their bouts:
JOSESITO LOPEZ
I kväll was a result of all the work I put in over the last few months with Robert Garcia.
I dropped him with a left hook, but he’s a gritty guy. He took some punishment. I was a little careful in there, fast. It’s been a while since I fought some good rounds like that. There were a few times that I tried to go for the kill, but he’s tough guy and stayed alive.
It felt good going the distance. My body felt good. Mer än någonting, I was alert and my instincts were quick. I had good reflexes and I was sharp. I got hit with very few punches, so I think I did OK i kväll.
I’m coming along. This is my second fight coming back om två år. It’s a little process. I feel like for my next fight I’ll be that much better. I’m just focused on continuing to get better. I want to step it up for the next fight.
We have a plan. Robert and I have only been training together for a short while, but the improvement is there and there’s more to come.
I’m the Riverside Rocky and I want to be in exciting fights that friends and family members will remember for years. I definitely have the grit and the (guts) to get in there with the best of them. I’m a lot smarter inside the ring now.
SAUL CORRAL
I felt like my distance was off i kväll. I think I need to spend more time sparring. I didn’t have a lot of sparring partners for this fight and I think that affected me.
I thought when Lopez landed punches I came back strong, but I didn’t continue with the attacks because he was able to stop me.
I just need to change some things up in training camp, and then I think I can get back to another big fight.
ALEJANDRO LUNA
Klimov is a very tough guy. We’ve seen him go the distance with Terrence Crawford. He’s fought the cream of the crop, so it’s an honor to get a win over him. He’s a top-level fighter, so this victory goes to show that we’re ready for any top-five lightweight.
Our plan i kväll was to work the body. We noticed he has a pretty high guard, so I wanted to go to the body to break him down little by little.
I know that I hurt him with a couple body shots, but he recovered fast. Later on, I hit him with an overhand right that got to him, but he’s such a tough guy.
My thing is always to please the crowd. I think this sport is as much about entertainment as it is skill and the fans want to see a show. That’s why I bring the action and do whatever I can to make it exciting for them.
The last round wasn’t my best. He was outworking me a little, so as soon as the 10-second bell rang I wanted to close the fight out strong. Olyckligtvis, I opened up and we clashed heads, which caused the cut over my left eye.
Andrej Klimov
I got staggered a little bit, but it wasn’t anything that I thought was going to turn my lights out.
Luna is a very herky jerky fighter. The cut over my left eye came near the end of the fight when we clashed heads.
“Jag är 35 år gammal. We’re going to go home and take some time to think about what’s next. I’ve been fortunate to do a lot of things in this sport. Now it’s time to talk with my family and decide my future.
KARLOS BALDERAS
We spent a lot of time sparring with great fighters to get ready for this fight. I think all the practice paid off and my speed was my biggest asset i kväll.
I think their corner stopped the fight because he was taking so many shots, but I’m not sure.
I’m happy and excited to be a pro. I have so many people here i kväll supporting me coming in from Oklahoma and Texas, so it’s an honor. I felt like a win wasn’t enough. I needed to make a statement.
I’m going to try to stay busy. I’d like to fight every two months, so I hope to be back in June fighting again.
THOMAS SMITH
I really had a bad headache. After the first two punches, I thought I could take it. I know he has a good body shot, but it didn’t really affect me. But after the fourth and fifth good one, I knew it was too much. I didn’t want to go out there in the second round just to get hurt.
MISAEL RODRIGUEZ
I honestly thought it was going to be an easier opponent. I haven’t been active since the Olympics eight months ago, but I trained very hard for this fight and got the win i kväll.
I don’t think he brought anything to the table that was that different than what I’ve seen before, but it was my first pro fight and maybe there were some first fight jitters.
I’ve never had a bloody nose before, så i kväll was definitely something different for me, but I rolled with the punches.
It means a lot to me to be a professional fighter now. I know the expectations are higher, and there are a lot of differences between the pros and amateurs, but it felt great in there.
EIMANTAS STANIONIS
I had a great camp, I have fantastic coaches and I work hard every day in the gym. I kväll, it all paid off.
I saw that I was able to land some good shots, and I could tell I was getting to him a little bit, so I started throwing more and more to try and stop him.
This has been a dream of mine forever. I grew up watching legends like Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao, and now I’m a professional fighter just like them.
I’m ready to continue proving myself. I’ll fight anyone they put in front of me.
LINDOLFO DELGADO
My team and I had a game plan and I followed it to the letter.
The punch that I dropped (Silva) with was a left uppercut. Thankfully I was able to land it and I knew I had him hurt.
Competing in Rio de Janeiro in the Olympics was an incredible experience and a good learning lesson for me, but now I’ve officially made my transition into the pros. It felt different in the ring i kväll, but I was very prepared.
I’m just going to continue training hard to build on this performance and little by little we’re going to reach our goals.
MONEY POWELL IV
I did what I wanted to do i kväll. I dominated early. (Templeton) is a tough, old dude, and I want to thank him for taking this fight and allowing me to showcase my skills.
I was just trying to start the fight out by controlling my distance and using my jab, but I could see he didn’t have much to offer, so I stopped using my jab so much. Once I realized I could land shots on him I went with my power punches because anything I threw was going to get him.
Becoming a professional fighter is a dream come true for me. I always wanted to be a fighter ever since I was a little kid. Thankfully Richard Schaefer signed me and gave me a chance to realize my dream.
This is only the beginning for me. I’m trying to be the best fighter that’s ever lived.

JOSESITO LOPEZ
First thing is that I can’t look past my opponent på söndag natt. If all goes well, I know that bigger things are coming. I want to give fans fights that they’ll remember for years to come. I’m that guy who wants to make great fights.
I know that I’m facing a tough fighter from Mexico. I always know that these guys come with a real hunger to win. I’ve prepared very well and I’m ready to put on a show Söndagnatt.
I’ve taken advantage of opportunities given to me in the past and I’m looking to take advantage of every one I get. I’m going to show off my abilities på söndag.
I’m in a good state of mind right now. I’ve been working for several months and I really feel 100 percent physically.
This is going to be a good fight. He’s going to come with the will to win. I’ll be smart and use my abilities. I’ve been working on some new things and Söndag will be a glimpse of what’s left to come.
It’s an honor for me to be the main event on a card with so many great young fighters. I remember that moment many years ago. These fighters are the future. This is just the beginning. I’m the present right now and I’m going to show that på söndag.”
ALEJANDRO LUNA
More than anything I think that the fans can expect fireworks. I’m fighting a crafty veteran guy in Klimov who has fought the best. He’s fought guys like Terrence Crawford and Jose Pedraza. Our styles are meant for each other and I think they’re going to clash. The fans are going to be the real winners.
I say yes to every challenge they put in front of me. This is a big test. I feel confident in my training and I believe I can get past Klimov. I think getting this win shows that I’m ready to fight any champion in the lightweight division.
“Jag tränar 100 percent every time. I had a smooth camp and I’m ready to go. My work ethic is my secret weapon. I’m a believer that fights are won in the gym.
I fight for the people every time I’m in the ring. They’re paying money to see a great fight and I want them to get their money’s worth.
I’ve been under the radar but I think that in 2017 I’m going to put myself in the world title picture. I give it my all in the ring.
MISAEL RODRIGUEZ
I’m excited because I have a great team behind me with Richard Schaefer, Abner Mares and Robert Garcia. I feel strong and ready for this fight.
I’m so happy to be fighting in Los Angeles, because it’s like a second Mexico. I hope the fans all come out to see me because I’m going to work hard to be the next Mexican superstar.
I’m going to keep working and getting stronger and better. I have to be consistent and have good training camps so I can reach my goals.
“Träning med Robert Garcia har varit stor. He has had a lot of champions and I hope that I will be next. Him and his whole family are good people and they’ve treated me like family. I’ve learned a lot already.
“Jag måste vara smart i ringen. I’m a Mexican fighter in my heart and I always will be. But I have to be smart and be ready for anything in the ring.
MARICELA CORNEJO
Joel Diaz has helped me so much with the mental side of the game. The way he speaks so passionately about the sport, he transfers that to me. I feel that belief and trust. He gives me the right words to keep me going and unleash anything I was holding back.
I work really hard at this sport. People didn’t see me when I was coming up, but It’s been a real journey. I’ve never backed down from anything. I’m proud to be a female fighter in the sport right now. Female athletes are getting more attention across the world than they ever have.
Boxing means a lot to me. I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles. Getting in the ring and getting hit in the face is a lot easier than what I’ve had to go through. I love boxing because it’s all about going for the win no matter what is thrown in front of you.
RICHARD SCHAEFER, Ordförande & VD för Ringstar Sports
All of these young fighters we’re letting loose på söndag are coming to fight. This won’t be ‘Dancing with the Stars’, they will come to engage and destroy. These guys all have advanced skills and I look forward to seeing them in the ring.
Misael Rodriguez is a very charismatic person. He’s an entertainer and a fighter. With Abner behind him as a manager and Robert Garcia as a trainer, this is a kid who wants to surround himself with the best. Watching his career will be very exciting.
Josesito had his biggest win, over Victor Ortiz, right across the street at Staples Center and he is ready for the next step in his career in a stacked welterweight division. I also believe that Alejandro Luna is on the cusp of being in world title contention if he can get through Klimov på söndag. Dessutom, you have one of the most charismatic female stars in Maricela Cornejo going along with an incredible group of young talent making their debutspå söndag.
With this new young class of fighters coming out of Southern California combined with world champions like Leo Santa Cruz, Mikey Garcia and Abner Mares, Los Angeles is on its way to being the fight capital of the world again.
I’ve never done an event on a Söndag and it definitely doesn’t happen very often. I want to challenge the status quo and try different things. I am equally excited about this Sunday card as I have been for any card I’ve promoted because of all the great young talent.
ABNER MARES, Rodriguez’s Manager
I’m nervous and excited to see Misael in the ring på söndag. He’s a fighter with a lot of heart and the desire to become a world champion just like I was coming out of the Olympics.
Our goal is to have Misael fight six times this year. We’re going to go step-by-step to make him a champion.
Misael is the future. He brings excitement and he’s likeable. He’s in a great weight class and the team he has behind him will get him to where he needs to go.
Seeing Misael grow from the manager’s side will be as exciting if not more than my own progression. I can’t wait to take him to a world championship.

Douglas did well as he increased his attack to the body in the middle rounds and continued to move backward to avoid the power punches being thrown by Cherry. The differing styles left the judges with a decision to make in weighing the movement and technique of Douglas versus the aggression of Cherry.
Till slut, the consistency of Cherry’s attack, who frequently targeted Douglas with combinations to the head, was more effective in the minds of the judges. The final score totals were 98-92 och 96-94 twice for Cherry.
Additional action featured Philadelphia’s Stephen Fulton (11-0, 5 Kos) earning a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Luis Rosario (8-1-1, 7 Kos) in their eight-round super bantamweight contest.
Rosario was the more aggressive fighter in the early rounds, but it was Fulton who timed his opponent first and built up an early lead with a combination of check hooks and power punches. Fulton was patient against the attack-minded Rosario and was able to counter effectively while avoiding Rosario’s power punches.
Fulton continued to have success in the middle rounds as Rosario’s attack slowed, but the Puerto Rican fighter came out with an increased level of aggression in round seven and tagged Fulton during several exciting exchanges.
Despite the increasing pressure, Fulton was able to stay composed and fend off Rosario over the final two rounds on his way to winning a unanimous decision by scores of 78-74, 79-73 och 80-72.
The opening bout of the telecast saw Bethlehem’s Frank DeAlba (22-2-2, 9 Kos) score a unanimous decision over Ryan Kielczweski (26-3, 8 Kos) i en åtta Ligt superfjäder skjutningen.
The hometown fighter got off to a slow start as Kielczweski appeared to control the early rounds using his movement and tagging the southpaw with right hands. DeAlba began to work on the inside of his opponent and found more success starting in the fourth round.
Once he had closed the distance, DeAlba began to land hooks to the head and smothered much of Kielczweski’s offense. With an increased emphasis on body-punching in the late rounds, DeAlba turned the tide of the fight in the judgesminds and earned a unanimous decision by scores of 77-75 två gånger och 80-72.
Här är vad de stridande hade att säga Tisdag natt:
Edner CHERRY
I take my hat off to Douglas. I thought I pulled out the victory. I tried to press for it but it was a back and forth fight.
I’m excited to get the win. I beat a great young fighter. I hate when people say I’m old because I work harder than these young fighters. I drive an hour and a half to the gym every day to do this.
I’m looking for big things. I want to be great and I want the biggest fights out there. I believe I’m going to get a significant fight.
OMAR DOUGLAS
I didn’t lose that fight. Period.
The fight went how I expected it would in the ring. I’ve always been a fan of his. I feel like I fight great competition and I was able to out box him with my jab. He tried to bait me in and I showed I was the better boxer.
STEPHEN FULTON
I feel good winning my first eight-round fight and televised bout. I feel great after that performance. The fight went exactly how I thought.
I knew he would try to drop combinations on me, but I worked my jab and moved so I would not be in a straight line for his left hand.
LUIS ROSARIO
Fulton is a good boxer. He did not want to fight man-to-man, but he moved well. He was shying away from exchanging with me.
I thought it was a close fight that could have gone either way. I blocked a lot of his punches with my gloves.
FRANK DEALBA
“Det var en stor kamp. He is a tough fighter and I felt I did enough to get the decision. I out boxed him. He was just looking for one big shot.
Hopefully this win gets me to another level. He has fought really good opponents, so a win over him gets me to fight bigger fights. I was in great shape. I saw he was tiring and I thought that was the difference.
RYAN KIELCZWESKI
It was a good fight for me and I stuck to my game plan. In the seventh round he hit me with a body shot and knocked the wind out of me.
It was a close fight but I thought I won 5-3. I could have lived with a draw. He got the close rounds, but every round? Come on.
