BROOKLYN (Mai 30, 2015) – Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) på Spikereturned to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center på fredag night with another explosive night of bouts for fight fans. I hovedturneringen, Amir “Konge” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) scored a crafty and hard fought unanimous decision over Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) og Javier Fortuna (28-0-1, 20 KOs) won a crowd-pleasing unanimous decision victory over Bryan Vasquez (34-2, 18 KOs) in the televised opener.

AMIR KHAN

 

“I thought I worked well inside. I’ve never done a lot of work in the pocket like that and I plan to do more of that in the future.

 

“I give Chris a lot of credit. He came forward a lot more than we thought he would and he had a big chin i kveld.

 

“Chris gave it his all i kveld. This is the best Algieri we’ve seen in a long time, and if he’d have fought Manny (Pacquiao) that way he might have won.

 

“Everyone knows I want Floyd (Mayweather) next after all the talk about it, but when you wait and hope for something for this long it can set you back. I don’t want to overlook any other fighters, including Chris.

 

“My first show with PBC has been great. The New York crowd was awesome and really got into it. The promotion was excellent and I’m proud to be a part of this team.”

 

CHRIS ALGIERI

 

“I thought I pressured Khan well and got my touches. He definitely didn’t like it when I got into his body.

 

“I thought I hurt him several times, but Khan’s a cagey fighter and he spins off. I guess the judges liked that i kveld. I would think the cleaner, harder shots would get a little more respect.

 

“I think PBC is fantastic. The focus is on the fighters, not the politics or the promoters. This is helping bring the sport back to boxing’s glory days of primetime events for the fans.

 

“I haven’t thought much about after this fight. Jeg er skuffet, but I’ll watch the film from this fight and we’ll go from there.”

 

JAVIER FORTUNA

 

“I’m very surprised that the fight went the distance. Vasquez is a strong fighter. After the fifth round, I was boxing to score points.

 

“I was never really hurt by Vasquez, but I hurt my own hand on his head.

 

“Vasquez didn’t really affect me throughout the fight. The swelling on my eye is from a headbutt.

 

“The biggest key to my success i kveld was my training. Before this I didn’t have the stamina that I needed. Men, after my work with Hector Bermudez leading up to this fight I was more than ready.

 

“Becoming a champion here in New York is huge for me. I’m very proud of my performance i kveld.”

 

BRYAN VASQUEZ

 

“My style is to box and then move. Fortuna fought a smart fight i kveld. He wouldn’t engage me and fight.

 

“Fortuna used his head and elbows a lot i kveld, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. I tried telling the referee, but nothing was done.

 

“I worked very hard for three months of training to get to this fight. I hope I won over some fans today because I fight to please them.

 

“Hopefully I get a rematch because this is not the end of my career, and I’d love the chance to take that belt from Fortuna.

 

“I want to thank PBC for this opportunity. It was great being a part of this show and I hope they’ll think of me again in the future.”

Fight Card Part of Brooklyn Brawl Series

BROOKLYN (Mai 28, 2015) – På torsdag natt, Juni 4, Dmitry Salita’s Star of David Promotions will bring it’s Brooklyn Brawl series to LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theater with a terrific night of boxing.
I hovedturneringen, ubeseiret tungvekt Jarrell “Big baby” Miller (12-0-1, 10 KO s) will risk his undefeated mark when he takes on Damon McCreary (15-4, 11 KO s) in a bout scheduled for 8 runder.
McCreary has been training hard in Detroit as Miller will be his 4th consecutive and 7th overall undefeated opponent.
He has previously been in with current WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as well as Jordan Shimmell, Ali Mansour and Charles Martin.
“Min trening har vært utmerket. Jeg føler stor. I know what I have going against me,” said McCreary.
In Miller, McCreary will be facing a guy who stands about 6’4″ and checks in around 260 lbs. McCreary has been preparing for that with regular sparring against huge men.
“I know he is a big guy. I been sparring with guys who stand about 6’8″ and 6’9″. I know Miller is young, hungry and a puncher. His skills are OK but he hasn’t fought at the level I have been at.”
McCreary has been a pro since 1998 and he feels that could be a big factor in his favor.
“My experience is a huge factor. I know up until the last couple years that he has been an MMA fighter. I just hope he doesn’t kick me or put me in a headlock.” quipped McCreary.
Despite being 41 år gammel, McCreary is confident that a win in New York will catapult him into some great opportunities.
“I have a few years left in me. This win will get me a bigger fight. It is great to fight in New York. I have fought in Los Angeles and Chicago but I have to treat this as just another fight.”
Because of the his past opponents, McCreary is giving himself a great shot to pull the upset.
“I am from Detroit. I am a soldier who won’t back down and I am coming to win. By the grace of god, I can pull the upset and further my career.”
I 8-round co-funksjonen, Dimash Niyazov (7-0-3, 4 KO s) av Staten Island, NY takes on Ariel Duran (8-7-1, 5 KO s) av Queens, NY i en Jr. Weltervekt bout.

AMIR KHAN

 

“Algieri is a fighter that has a lot of skills and assets. His range and height give him good advantages against opponents but I believe with my speed, movement and style it will be too much for him.

 

“Each day me and Virgil Hunter are getting stronger and we have built a really good rapport. It takes time to get that but he understands my style even more now and what works for me so we’re only going to keep growing.

 

“My aim since I was a kid and got into this sport was to be the very best. I fulfilled a dream when I got to the Olympics at 17 and brought back a silver medal. Later I became a world champion and then unified the light-welterweight division. My goal now is to fight the very best at 147 pounds and make my mark on this division too.

 

“I was away in training camp when my daughter turned one last week. It’s hard to be away from her but as a fighter those are the sacrifices you have to make. Everything I do is for her and I can’t wait to see her and spend time with her after this fight. Her birthday celebrations have been put on hold until after the fight!

 

“I’m really looking forward to returning to New York and fighting at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I have good memories of this city because it’s the place where I had my first fight on US soil against Paulie Malignaggi in 2010 and also where I got married. I’m out to make it another good time this weekend.”

TUREANO JOHNSON PROVIDING GREAT SPARRING FOR DANIEL GEALE

NEW JERSEY (Mai 26, 2015) – Gary Shaw Productions mellomvekt konkurrent, Tureano Johnson (18-1, 13 KOs), is now the chief sparring partner for Daniel Geale (31-3, 16 KOs) as he prepares him for his upcoming WBC title clash with Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs). Johnson, who captured the WBA International and WBC Silver middleweight titles in his last bout, is currently ranked WBC #2, WBA #5, IBF #8 and WBO #13. He gives his thought on sparring with Geale.

 

“Daniel Geale is a special fighter who possesses a lot of boxing skills,” said Tuerano Johnson. “He’s looking real sharp in the gym and his power is there. I can feel the snap on his punches and I think Miguel Cotto is in for a big surprise. Everyone is counting Geale out but not me. Gary Shaw brought me in to test Geale’s skills and after a few days of sparring, I believe Daniel will be crowned champion.”

 

“I brought Tureano to the gym to spar with Geale because he’s a good look to emulate Cotto and he’s one of the top fighters in the middleweight division,” Gary Shaw said. “The feedback I got from Johnson about sparring Geale is very positive. I’m confident that Daniel will use everything in his playbook to come out victorious.”

 

Tureano Johnson is currently riding a 4-fight winning streak, three of which came by stoppage. Highly ranked across the board of all sanctioning organizations, Johnson is on the cusp of landing a big fight.

An accomplished amateur who represented Cuba in the 2004 OL, Franco won a Junior World Championship in 2003. The 33-year-old, who now fights out of Miami, will take on the 26-year-old Sanchez out of Buffalo, New York.

USNBC Champion Melson to speak to Lodi students!

New York, NY (Mai 21, 2015) – Newly crowned WBC-USNBC 154 pound champion Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson will serve as a special guest speaker at Thomas Jefferson Middle School Friday, Mai 22 in Lodi, NJ.

 

A 2003 West Point graduate, Melson serves as an Army Reserve Officer, donates 100% of his purses to Teamfighttowalk.com and works a full time job. Between his aforementioned commitments along with training and making weight, Melson’s had to overcome many difficulties both personally and professionally. During his speech, Melson will discuss what it’s like to get knocked down by life when pursuing dreams, how to stay focused on goals, choices in life and the different paths life could take a person based on those choices.
