NEW YORK (Juillet 7, 2016) – Widely acknowledged as the preeminent Mexican-born fighter in history and one of the greatest prizefighters of all time, Julio Cesar Chavez will be honored as Sports Showtime® airs classic Chavez fights in continuation of its year-long celebration of 30 années de Showtime Championship Boxing.

 

The month will be highlighted by four of the incomparable Chavez’ most memorable fights – against Hector "Macho" Camacho, Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, the second of three fights with Frankie Randall and the rematch with Meldrick Taylor. All four fights will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT sur Showtime EXTREME (full schedule below).

 

Pendant des années, the revered ring legend was considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. In an amazing 25-year-career (1980-2005), Chavez fought 115 fois (107-6-2 avec 88 KO). At the highest level, he competed in four weight classes – 130 livres à 147 pounds – and was a six-time world champion in three divisions.

 

He holds records for the most world title successful defenses (27), most title fight victories (31), most title fights (37) and the second-most title defenses won by assommer (21, après Joe Louis avec 23). Chavez was 31-4-2 avec 21 KOs in world title fights. A multiple Fighter de l'année gagnant, Chavez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011.

“Throwback Jeudi” Tidbits

  • WBC super featherweight champion Chavez (81-0) and his WBO counterpart, Camacho, fought on Sept. 12, 1992, à Las Vegas. JCC turned back a determined bid by “Macho” to take a unanimous 12-round decision.

 

  • Chavez had an 87-fight winning streak end when he and WBC welterweight champion Whitaker fought to a highly controversial 12-round majority draw in Sept. 10, 1993, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. One judge scored it for “Sweet Pea” by 115-113; the others had it 115-115.

 

  • Chavez was dealt his initial defeat on a 12-round split decision to nemesis Randall on Jan. 29, 1994. In the rematch the following Mai 7, Chavez won a razor-thin, split eight-round technical decision after the fight was stopped because of a large cut over Chavez’ eyebrow. Chavez and Randall would fight a third time, with Chavez taking the rubber match on a clear, unanimous 10-round decision on May 22, 2004.

 

  • Chavez went 2-0 against Taylor, winning by eighth-round knockout in a rematch on Sept. 17, 1994. In their initial fight four-and-a-half years earlier, Chavez rallied to win by 12e-round stoppage.

Connecticut Boxe Hall of Fame de classe 2015 officiellement annoncé

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Septembre 15, 2015) – Organisateur Lou DiBella et gestionnaire / promoteur Shelly Finkel mener une de sept membres de la classe 2015 dans le Connecticut boxe Hall of Fame (CBHOF). Les nouveaux membres seront intronisés au 11THDîner annuel CBHOF Gala d'intronisation vendredi nuit,Novembre 13 dans la salle de bal Uncas au Mohegan Sun.
Les nouveaux intronisés de CBHOF comprend également l'ancien commissaire de la boxe Peter Timothy et, à titre posthume, boxeurs Carey Mace et George Russo, écrivain de boxe Mort Sharnik et la boxe avocat Arnie Bayer.
“Nous, au Connecticut Boxe Hall of Fame sommes très heureux d'annoncer la classe des intronisés de cette année,” nouveau président CBHOF John Laudati dit. “Nous avons un grand mélange de légendes de boxe internationalement reconnues et un groupe merveilleux et les plus méritants de la redevance de boxe du Connecticut. Personnellement, Je suis tellement heureux de vous présenter cette classe dans ma première année en tant que président de cette organisation incroyable. Je suis impatient de voir tous les fans de boxe notre Connecticut au Mohegan Sun sur Novembre 13e.”
Basée à New York City, DiBella (photo à gauche) est l'ancien chef de la boxe pour HBO, la création d'un grand succès “Boxing After Dark” série. Sa société de promotion, DiBella Entertainment, a promu innombrables événements de boxe au Mohegan Sun Arena et Foxwoods Resort Casino au cours des deux dernières décennies. DiBella possédait également l'équipe de baseball des ligues mineures Connecticut Defenders qui était basé à Norwich. Ses meilleurs combattants ont inclus Sergio Martinez,Bernard Hopkins, Paulie Malignaggi, Jermain Taylor, CBHOF intronisé “Irlandais” Micky Ward, et Autres Berto parmi les plus notables. Un diplômé de Harvard Law School, DiBella est également un producteur de film à succès.

Timothée (photo à gauche avec Sugar Ray Leonard) était boxe commissaire de la Commission nationale Mashantucket Pequot Tribal à Foxwoods partir 1995 à 2009. Il a été encadré par la fin John Burns, qui était le fondateur de la CBHOF dont il est aussi intronisé. Pendant son mandat à Foxwoods, Timothy réglementés centaines d'événements pro, y compris 90 combat pour le titre. Faits saillants de son règne inclus CBHOF intronisé John Ruiz–Evander Holyfield III pour le championnat WBA des poids lourds et monde, peut-être, le plus grand combat de l'histoire Foxwoods, le monde IBF combat pour le titre cruiserweight entre James Toney et Vassily Jirov. D'autres stars qui ont combattu à Foxwoods Timothée était en charge comprennent Roy Jones, Jr., Diego Corrales, Shane Mosely et Acelino Freitas, avec intronisés CBHOF Dana Rosenblatt, Peter Manfredo, Jr. et nous. Né à New Haven, la fin Sharnick a vécu presque toute sa vie à Norwalk, avant de retourner en Floride, où il a été élu à la Floride Boxe Hall of Fame en 2012, en grande partie pour la fondation de l'Institut intelligente Boxer.
