VELADO CAPTURES GOLD, HALL RETAINS AT NEF 25

Lewiston, Maine (September 10, 2016) – New England Fights (NEF) held its most-recent event, “NEF 25: HEROES & VILLAINSSaturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. The event featured both mixed-martial-arts and professional boxing bouts.

 

On the boxing portion of the card, John Webster (9-7-1) defeated Zenon Herrera (0-3) via unanimous decision on the eve of Webster’s 48th birthday. Webster’s last boxing victory came back in 2004, also in Lewiston, prior to his taking off a decade from active competition.

 

Also in the boxing ring, Casey Kramlich (5-0-1) remained undefeated as he stopped John Ortolani (0-1) in the fourth round via technical knockout. Likewise, Brandon Montella (5-0) kept his pro record perfect with a second-round stoppage of Tollison Lewis (2-2).

 

Rachael Joyce (2-0) won a unanimous decision over Jessica Borga (2-2) in a highly-anticipated women’s amateur bout. Rafael Velado (4-0) captured the amateur lightweight title with a first-round submission of Jimmy Jackson (3-3). Caleb Hall (8-3) retained the amateur featherweight title, and in doing so handed bantamweight champion Johnny Crafts (4-1) the first loss of his career, in a very close split decision on the judgesscorecards.

 

Aaron Lacey (3-0) kept his unbeaten streak alive with a first-round submission of Cory Trial (0-1) on the professional MMA portion of the card. Mike Hansen (5-4) handed Matt Andrikut (2-1) the first loss of his career in the co-main event, thaum lub Jesse Erickson (8-5) submitted Crowsneck Boutin (2-3) in the main event of the evening.

 

NEF also announced that it would co-promote its next event with Classic Entertainment & Cov kev ua si (CES). The two largest fight promotions in New England will present a joint card titledSupremacy” rau November 4 in Lewiston at the Colisee.

HANSEN AND ANDRIKUT ON COLLISION COURSE SET FOR NEF 25

Their respective most recent wins were both against Jesse Baughman (0-2). Both are accomplished wrestlers. That collision will take place atNEF 25: HEROES & VILLAINS” rau September 10, 2016 in Lewiston. The mixed-martial-arts (MMA) contest is set at a fight weight of 205-pounds.

 

Hansen is the founder of the Berserkers MMA fight team based out of the Greater Rumford Community Center in Rumford, Maine. He was a Maine state champion wrestling out of Mountain Valley High School. Hansen dropped his last fight to Brendan Battles (1-0) tom “NEF 23in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He had a chance to avenge that loss and get back on the winning track this month atNEF 24,but suffered a setback when his opponent fell out the morning of weigh-ins.

 

This should be an exciting fight,” said Hansen. “Two good wrestlers ready to throw each other around sounds like a good time to me. This should be my last fight at 205 most likely, though. I’m heading down to 185-170 to try my luck against guys my size. Fighting these big guys sure is exciting, but it cost my body a lot. Expect nothing less than me coming ready to break him.

 

Prior to his professional MMA career, Matt Andrikut wrestled for the University of Southern Maine (USM) and also boxed as an amateur. He was a finalist in the Northern New England Golden Gloves. During his amateur MMA career, Andrikut famously defeated Pat Walsh. Walsh would later go on to compete in the UFC and World Series of Fighting at the national level. Andrikut is 2-0 in the NEF MMA cage since debuting with the promotion last year.

 

I am ready to be in the cage again,” said Andrikut from his home in Reno, Nevada. “I know Mike is a tough wrestler and possibly an even tougher striker. This is a fight that no one would want to miss. I look forward to the challenge to further enhance my career in MMA towards a much deserved title shot in NEF.

The event will feature a first for Mainemixed-martial-arts (MMA) bouts and professional boxing bouts on the same event with an MMA cage and a boxing ring set up side-by-side. Earlier today, the promotion announced the addition of a professional light-heavyweight bout to the MMA portion of the fight card. MattThe Beast From the NorthAndrikut (1-0) will return to Maine to take on JesseThe BarbarianBaughman (0-0) at a fight weight of 205-pounds.

 

Andrikut, an accomplished wrestler at the University of Southern Maine (USM) and a former finalist in the Northern New England Golden Gloves, made his NEF debut last month atNEF XIX,” winning via technical knockout (TKO) in a mere 32-seconds of round one. Andrikut is best known on the New England MMA scene for finishing Pat Walsh (6-2) in under a minute during their amateur meeting in 2011. (Walsh would go on to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship [UFC] as a professional.) Andrikut now lives in Reno, Nevada where he trains out of Conviction MMA.

The Lewiston bout will be the professional debut for Baughman, as well as his first fight with NEF in the state of Maine. Baughman leaves the amateur division having amassed a perfect 5-0 record. He has claimed regional championships while attaining the number-one ranking for New England amateur light-heavyweights. A resident of Littleton, New Hampshire, Baughman trains at Team Link North in nearby Whitefield.
