The winner of tonight’s 135-Pound World Championship fight betweenSergio Pettis aKyoji Horiguchi will defend their title next year in the Bantamweight World Grand Prix featuring a gauntlet of the eight best athletes the weight class has to offer.

In addition to both Pettis and Horiguchi, the Bantamweight World Grand Prix is set to feature former divisional championJuan Archuleta, Ne. 2 zauzela-Raufeon Stots, Ne. 3 zauzela-Patchy Mix, Ne. 4 zauzela-Magomed Magomedov, Ne. 5 zauzela-Leandro Higo, i Nema. 6 zauzela-James Gallagher, who will all vie for the right to be named the next BELLATOR Bantamweight World Champion and take home a grand prize of one-million-dollars.

First-round matchups and additional details such as dates, locations and tournament alternates will be revealed soon.

All tournament bouts will be five-round contests and will be telecast in the United States exclusively on SHOWTIME.

The run was highlighted by a remarkable stoppage of former multi-division champion Joe Warren. Hailing from Rahway, NJ. and training alongside Bellator standouts Phil Davis a Justin Lawrence at Alliance MMA in San Diego, Kalifornija, “The Wolf” also serves as one of the main sparring partners of former UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz.

 

Higo signed with Bellator in February riding an eight-fight win-streak and earned the Legacy Fighting Alliance 135-pound crown in the process. Fresh off animpressive win protiv Joe Taimanglo, the 28-year-old Pitbull Brothers product also competed on Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 u 2015. A proud carrier of the Olympic torch ahead of the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil, “Pitbull” will now set his sights on carrying the torch in Bellator’s bantamweight division.
