Son of Sandman Jarel Pemberton added to “Fight Night In Framingham” card

FRAMINGHAM, Mäss. (February27, 2020) – The son of Sandman, Jarel “Sandman” Pemberton, returns to the ring for the first time in nearly two years on the “Fight Night In Framingham” card, presented by Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP), Mars 20, at Sheraton Framingham Hotel in Framingham, Massachusetts.

“Fight Night In Framingham”, the first pro boxing event ever in Framingham, is being held for the benefit ofFighting Life, an after-school youth boxing and academic empowerment program, available 100-percent free of charge, to students beginning in elementary school through high school education.

The 28-year-old super middleweight Pemberton (3-0, 1 KO), fighting out of Revere, MA, is the son of one of New England’s all-time favorite boxers, Scott Pemberton (29-5-1, 24 Kos), the former NABF and IBU World super middleweight champion. Pemberton was a blood-and-guts, highly entertaining type fighter best remembered for a pair of Fight of the Year candidates versusOmar Sheika.

Scott named his son, Jarel, after Superman’s father, but he never forced him into boxing. “Me boxing had a lot to do with him,” Jarel said, “but he never pushed me into boxing. I did go to a lot of his fights when I was young.

“Dad saw a Superman movie and named me Jarel after Superman’s father. I think it’s a great name, it kind of shaped my life because I’m a real comic-book nerd today.”

Jarel played football and basketball at Dartmouth (MA) Hög, where two of his teammates went on to play in the National Football League, Jordan Todman and close friendArthur Lynch.  Jarel joined the U.S. Marines and he did two tours in Afghanistan as a machine gunner. He didn’t start boxing until after he was honorably discharged, turning pro at 27.

“I wish I started boxing when I was a kid,” he added, “but I didn’t box until after I got out of the military. People tell me I hit hard; I do have natural power.”

Pemberton, who is on the permanent reserve list to become a Revere Firefighter, is ready to get back in the ring on a regular basis, especially after being out of the ring nearly two years.

“I’m back in boxing for the long run,” he admitted. I’d like to fight a few times in the next few months. I’m getting in top shape for this fight and that’s a lot better than getting beat up in training by (22-0, 14 KOs welterweight from Lynn, MA) Rashidi Ellis.  I’m bigger than him but he’s so fast.”

Pemberton is matched against veteran Texas fighterLarry “Slomoshun” Smith (10-43-1, 7 Kos) i en 4-runda bout.

Two unbeaten pro “graduates” of the Fighting Life Boxing Program, super featherweightsTimmy Ramos (5-0-2, 5 Kos) ochNelson “Chino” Perez (2-0, 2 Kos), are fighting in the main event and co-feature, respectively.

Ramos, fighting out of Framingham, was a two-time New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur. He is in the 6-round, main event against superCarlos Marrero, III (2-3-1), av Bridge, Connecticut.

(Augusti 19, 2018) – Seven years after his last fight, “Den Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera returned to the ring in grand fashion last night (Lördag) till rubrik “Homecoming, presented by Granite Chin Promotions in association with Rivera Promotions Entertainment, vid The Palladium i Worcester, Massachusetts.

 

 

 

The 45-year-old Rivera (42-6-1, 25 Kos), 35 pounds lighter than he was in February when he started training, packed the house in his hometown, fully entertained his supportive fans. Tre-tid, two-division world champion Rivera pressured Larry “Slomoshun: Smith (10-38-1, 7 Kos) from the opening bell and he never let up.

 

 

 

It took a few rounds for Rivera to wear off the rust, but he fed Smith a steady diet of body shots, gradually breaking down his opponent, as he won round after round on points. Twice in the sixth round it looked like Smith was done, but the tough Texan showed a lot of heart to survive.

 

 

 

Slutligen, Rivera closed the show in the seventh round, when Smith broke his hand in the fifth round and was unable to continue, kneeling in his corner, obviously in pain.

 

 

 

“I’ve always been tough,” Rivera said after the fight, “but I was a little rusty. He tested me early but, once he saw I wasn’t going anywhere and knew he was in for a fight. I started warming up in the fourth round. I was always a 12-round fighter. I didn’t know he broke his hand until after the fight. Jag känner stor. We gave a good fight to the fans who have always supported me.”

 

 

 

“I give myself a C+ tonight. I’m going to talk with my family, but I’m thinking about one more fight, to make it 50 for his pro career).”

(Augusti 15, 2018) – Tre-tid, champion två division världen “Den Gallo” Jose Rivera has a new opponent for his comeback fight this Friday night in “Homecoming”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) in association with Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), vid The Palladium i Worcester, Massachusetts.

 

 

 

The 45-year-old Rivera (41-6-1, 24 Kos), who was matched against Ruben “Modern Day Warrior” Galvan, didn’t find out until yesterday (Tisdag) that Galvan had broken a finger the night before. Texas veteran Larry “Slomoshun” Smith (10-37-1, 7 Kos) is the late replacement for Rivera in the eight-round main event.

 

 

 

“I am not a fan of late changes,” Rivera said, “but at this point it’s either that or no fight, and I’ve trained too hard not to fight.”

 

 

 

Rivera last fought in 2011, taking an eight-round decision over Paul Mpendo, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

 

 

 

The name of the event is “Homecoming” because five fighters in action are from Worcester, including three who’ve never fought there before as professionals.

 

 

 

Super middleweight Kendrick Ball, Jr. (9-1-2, 6 Kos) and junior middleweight Khiary Gray(15-4, 11 Kos), both promoted by CES Boxing, will be fighting at home in Worcester as pros for the first time in a pair of six-round bouts. Ball faces Mexican Fabian “El Lobo” Valdez (2-3) in the co-featured event, while Gray (15-4, 11 Kos) ansikten Antonio Chaves Fernandez platshållarbild (9-33, 4 Kos), of Brockton, MA, in a rematch of a fight won by Gray.

DERRY, N.H. (April 8, 2018) — The official weigh in was held today for tomorrow (Lördag) evening’s “Fight Night at the Zone,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at The Sportszone in Derry, New Hampshire.

 

 

 

 

I main event, Dorchester, MA junior middleweight Gabriel Duluc (12-3, 3 Kos) used a vicious body attack to stop veteran Texas fighter Larry “Slomoshun” Smith i den femte omgången. A right to the liver put Smith down, but he beat the referee Mike Ryan‘s count. Smith was unable to recover as he was pinned on the ropes by Duluc, who reeled off a dozen unanswered punches, forcing referee Ryan to end the fight.

 

 

 

 

New England’s hardest hitter is unquestionably UBF N.E. light heavyweight champion Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera (7-0, 6 Kos), who knocked out cruiserweight Randy “The Rattler” Campbell (3-19, 2 Kos) with the first punch in their non-title fight, a lethal right that broke Campbell’s lower right ankle.

 

 

 

 

Flashy Worcester, MA prospect Irvin Gonzalez (9-0, 8 Kos) overwhelmed his Mexican opponent, junior weltervikt Francisco “El Mono” Medel (12-13, 8 Kos), blasting him from every angle en route to a first-round technical knockout, in which Medal went to the canvas twice.

 

 

 

 

New England cruiserweight champion Chris Traietti (26-4, 21 Kos), also the co-promoter, pounded “Jammin” James Morrow (12-23-3, 5 Kos) from pillar to post until referee Leo Gerstel halted the action in their non-title fight for a third-round technical knockout.

 

 

 

 

Irish junior welterweight Paddy McGee, fighting out of Dorchester, MA, landed only two punches in his pro debut, both flooring Bardraiel Smith (0-4), for a quick first-round knockout.

 

 

 

 

Stoughton, MA weltervikt Travis “The Outlaw” Demko (6-1, 1 KO) outclassed Paul DeSouza (0-11), of Somerville, pitching a six-round shutout decision.

QUINCY, Mäss. (April 2, 2018) — This Saturday night’s “Fight Night at The Zone”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, has been strengthened by the late addition of hot prospect Irvin Gonzalez to a card already showcasing some of the best young, professional boxers in New England.

 

 

 

Granite Chin Promotions is on a mission to establish a fan-base in the Granite State, providing a fan friendly, full entertainment experience at The Sports Zone in Derry, New Hampshire.

 

 

 

Gonzalez (8-0, 7 Kos), fighting out of Worcester, MA, var en 2015 New England Golden Gloves mästare, who qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. The 21-year-old featherweight prospect will face Mexican Francisco “El Mono” Medal (12-12, 8 Kos) i en sex-round bout.

 

 

 

Gonzalez, who hasn’t fought since December 1 1 (sensational third-round knockout of previously undefeated 13-0 Marlon Olea in Providence), was supposed to fight St. Patrick’s Day in Boston, but he was informed the day of the weigh in that his opponent hadn’t cleared medicals.

 

 

 

I’m always in the gym working hard because I like to stay busy and be ready,” Gonzalez sa. “No layoffs for me. I’ve been sparring 3-4 times a week to polish my craft. Jag är alltid beredd. I was disappointed a few weeks ago, but I’m fighting on this card, and back on the right track.

“We are happy to have Irvin on our show,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns sa. “His last fight fell out and we are always happy to help local fighters, especially someone of Irvin’s caliber. We have five undefeated fighters on this show. They’re legitimate prospects with a lot of upside. Irvin, Richie and Omar are starting to get national attention and New Hampshire fans are getting an early look at them. The veteran fighters on this show have a lot to fight for as well. ”

QUINCY, Mäss. (Juli 6, 2017) — Many of New England’s best and most popular professional boxers will be showcased Lördag natt, Augusti 5, på “Fight Night at the Bay” kort, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at Marina Bay Sportplex in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Former N.E. weltervikt mästare Derek Silveira (12-1, 6 Kos), fighting out of Salem (MA), will headline against an opponent to be determined in the eight-round main event.
I åtta Ligt co-feature, hemstad favorit Chris Traietti (23-4, 19 Kos) och Nick Lavin (4-5, 4 Kos), of Shelton (CT), square off for the vacant New England Cruiserweight Championship. Traietti, fighting at home in Quincy, is also the co-promoter of “Fight Night at the Bay”. A former World Boxing Council (WBC) United States cruiserweight titlist, Traietti is a college graduate who did one tour of duty in Iraq while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Three-time world title challenger, weltervikt Aleksandra Lopes (17-4-2, 1 KO) will be in action versus former world super lightweight champion Lisa Garland (15-7-1, 8 Kos) in an eight-round Special Female Welterweight Attraction. The popular Lopes is a native of Poland who lives in Marshfield (MA), Garland hails from York, South Carolina.
“Granite Chin Promotions is turning it up a notch for our Augusti 5th händelse,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns sa. “We are keeping promising, well-known young fighters busy. They’re fighting in front of their hometown fans, in some good scraps that promises to be an entertaining show. By the time the night is over, I expect we will have had a few surprises. Tickets are priced reasonably for this family-friendly venue on the beautiful South Shore.”
Unbeaten Brooklyn middleweight Carlos Gongora (8-0, 7 Kos) faces battle-tested Texan Larry “Slow Motion” Smith (10-33-1, 7 Kos) i en sexrunda kamp.
